Details are out about the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off that will be introduced and probably launched in a very special two-hour Grey’s episode in May.

We’ve known the series is built around Kate Walsh’s Dr. Addison Forbes. But other than that and other casting announcements that include Taye Tiggs and Tim Daly, information have been kept under wraps.

Until now. It doesn’t really count as a spoiler… but some of us like surprises, so we’ll give up the series set-up… after the jump…
The LA Times gives us this synopsis:

Following her recent disastrous romantic misfortunes, Addison (Kate Walsh) travels to Santa Monica to seek advice from her old medical school pals, Naomi (Merrin Dungey) and Jackson (Taye Diggs) whom she believes have it all: a beautiful teenage daughter, a great marriage and a highly successful health cooperative.

Addison quickly learns that Jackson, also a successful TV health guru, has divorced Naomi. During the visit, Addison also meets the rest of the gang at the cooperative: a widowed alternative medicine doctor, a self-doubting therapist, and a male gynecologist who knows little about women, and realizes she is on familiar ground.

Addison concludes that the personal lives of the people around her may be a mess, but professionally they stand out. So she decides to leave Seattle Grace behind and join the Oceanside Wellness Group team.

Sounds like a TV drama. ABC hasn’t picked up the series officially, but they did parade the cast for advertisers last week, so it’s a good bet they’ll make the most of their Grey’s investment.

They also haven’t announced a title. Any ideas?

I love Addison, and was really excited when I heard she was getting a spin-off. The idea, though, sounds pretty crappy. Oceanside Wellness Group? A successful TV health guru? A widowed alternative medicine doctor???? Seriously?

Addison is such an interesting character with a great backstory. They never explored her wealthy NY socialite background (isn’t her middle name Forbes or something?) They should just have her realize that there’s nothing more for her in Seattle and follow her back to NYC. This hippie, Cali alternative medicine spin doesn’t sound like it will fit her character at all.

Also seems weird that the whole premise for her leaving is to seek love advice from her old med school pals…

Its Dr. Addison Montgomery, not Forbes.

Her last name is both Montgomery and Forbes, “Addison Forbes Montgomery Sheppard” was her name before she divorced.

I saw the grey’s episode where they aired the potential spinoff, and it SUCKED!!! i ended up fastforwarding just to the Grey’s stuff. Addison should go back to Seattle. The show was not interesting, bad bad bad.

I really, really hope the spin-off is not picked up. Mongomery’s Medicine seemed just a wee bit…The O.C.? I mean, the slow-mo surfer dude? Addie needs to go back to Seattle Grace-she is to pivitol of a character to just be pulled from Grey’s and, at the same time, I don’t think her holding her own show would work out all that great. We shall see.

If they REALLY want a spin-off, they should have Denny and bomb-squad man together in a show called, ummm…”The Afterlife”

    Yeah :)
