Grimm Catch-ups: Episodes 14 – 19

Hey Gasmii! I am SUPER excited to be covering Grimm because it is hands down my favorite television show. The last few episodes weren’t recapped on here so I’ll do a quick catch up so we are all on the same page. There are only 2 episodes left to this season but don’t worry you guys, we got renewed for a second season with 22 episodes!

Episode 14 - Plumed Serpent

“Said the dragon, ‘Many knights have left their lives here, I shall soon have an end for you, too,’ and he breathed fire out of seven jaws.”

The episode starts with two guys attempting to steal copper from an abandoned building…except they aren’t the only ones there trying to get some copper. Turns out a Daemonfeuer beat them to the location and has already stolen all the copper. The Daemonfeuer torches the two men and escapes but is seen by a man driving by. Nick and Hank meet the witness later and learn that the suspect is a homeless man with a daughter, Ariel,  that Nick tracks down to a local bar where she performs as a fire dancer. He spots Monroe who explains that Daemonfeuer are basically dragons who also like to loot and steal. Ariel flirts with Nick as he questions her and later pounces on him and kisses him when he follows her home for more information. Ariel later lures Nick to her home but she isn’t there when he arrives with Hank. As he heads into bed that night he is surprised to find not Juliette but Ariel in his bed. Ariel kidnaps Juliette in an attempt to bring Nick to help her father who is dying in an old train tunnel. With Monroe’s help, Nick is able to defeat the dragon and rescue Juliette before Ariel sets the tunnel on fire resulting in killing herself. Juliette isn’t sure she wants to continue with their relationship but doesn’t break up with him.

Episode 15 – Island of Dreams

“Soon he was so in love with the witch’s daughter that he could think of nothing else. He lived by the light of her eyes and gladly did whatever she asked.”

Adalind is back! Captain Renard tells Adalind that she needs to speed up her plans in order to make Hank fall in love with her but she doesn’t understand why they aren’t going after Nick directly. Captain reminds her that the way to a man is through his best friend and gives her a vial. A couple of Skalengecks are getting high and end up robbing the Fuchsbau shop owner and murdering him in the process. Nick and Hank arrive to investigate and believe that the owner might have been dealing illegally under the table so they start searching for answers. Nick tracks down the next of kin and interviews her to find out what she might know only to discover that she is also a Fuchsbau. She reluctantly agrees to help Nick search through her brother’s stash to find a motive for his murder. Adalind gives Hank some special cookies and tells him not to give them away which we find out is because they are part of a spell which makes Hank go completely creeper style over Adalind following her and constantly calling her. The robbers return to the shop while Rosalie is going through her brother’s things. She manages to escape and insists that Monroe stay with her for protection. Wu ends up eating one of the cookies which causes an ill effect on him but luckily he was at the shop with Rosalie and Monroe who reverse his effects and take him home to recover with Nick…except the effect of the potion leaves him eating weird shit. The gang realizes that the robbers were after J, a drug that Rosalie was once addicted to, so she shows Nick where to buy some which leads him to the robbers. Monroe ends up closer to Rosalie who decides to stay in town longer than she expected under the guise of getting her brother’s shop in order but really it was because you can’t resist Monroe’s charms.

Love love love this show. Love the backstory they are finally starting to develop. My only complaint is that Nick reveals himself way too often. He’s not only a Grimm and needs to protect himself and Juliette, but he’s also a cop and NO cop goes around revealing such personal stuff. Especially the episode with the Reapers – it’s like he’s in an AA meeting: “Hi, I’m Det. Nick and I’m a Grimm”. I know I’m nitpicking, and it’s a minor irritation. I’m worried for them – he needs to move from his very well known residence.

Also, when Juliette cooked dinner for Monroe, did she really cook “vegan salmon” cuz that sounded gross.

Otherwise, looking forward to season 2!

I’ve been wondering the same thing about Juliette, Nick is obviously hiding ‘something’ from her. She’s either stupid or maybe knows his secret? I don’t know, but keeping a secret that big is just him being a douche. If he can’t trust her enough to tell her what he is, he shouldn’t be marrying her.

I don’t think the Wesen reveal themselves to Nick as much as him being a Grimm forces them to reveal themselves to him. It’s something only he and the Wesen are aware of at the time which is why they usually both get so squirrelly after it happens. What I don’t understand is how Renard can camouflage what he is from Nick and also how long has he known what Nick is. Because even before Aunt Marie came to town and told him about their family legacy Nick saw Adalind for a Hexenbiest.

As for Juliette and Hank, I see their not knowing or picking up on Nick as being more willful ignorance than naivete. They’ve both commented on how he’s been acting differently, and Juliette turned down his proposal because of it, but as long as they don’t know the truth it doesn’t exist to them.

I think this would be a much better show, and less cluttered, if they got rid of the Hank and Juliette characters, revealed to Nick that Reynard is a wessen and made Eddie more of a partner to Nick. They can keep Rosalee because her character contributes energy to the show and advances the plot.

I have thought from the beginning of the season that Juliette will die before we get to Season Two. When the hot witch stayed alive and dewitched, my suspicion was strenghened. Having Nick tied down to a sweet but kind of plain girlfriend was a great way to establish his character as a good guy, but shows like this thrive on romantic spice and there just isn’t any in that relationship.

Not, by the way that I actually think Blondey Witch is hot. She totally annoys me. But I’m sure I’m in the minority on this.

Thanks so much for recapping this clever show. The Wikipedia page on the Creatures of Grimm adds a lot of fun because I think the backstory created for all the creatures is so great. The jägerbär disenbowels victims; they tend to be mortage lenders, lawyers, and politicians., etc. The schakale are jackal-like thieves; Hitler was one. We know that Captain Renard is royalty, as he was addressed as “your highness”. And I adore Monroe in all his quirkiness and his relationship with Nick.

Maryedith, you’re not alone. Blondey drives me nuts, too. I hope she’s gone, but considering she was even in the pilot, I doubt she’ll ever truly leave us. Maybe she can pull a Mystique and help Nick bring Renard down. That “you’re just a pretty girl” totally brought me back to Magneto’s looking at a now human Mystique and sighing “and she was so beautiful” before leaving.

@Vallegirl, I think the Wessen show themselves to other Wessen and Grimms when they are feeling extreme emotions. That’s why Nick can’t see if a dead body is a person or a Wessen. I also think the captain is so super icy and in control that is why he never reveals himself to Nick or to any of the other Wessen. Does that make any sense?
