No, Borat‘s not up for Best Picture. Then again, neither is the supposed shoo-in, Dreamgirls. And no, Sacha Baron Cohen is not up for Best Actor. But Ryan Gosling is for Half Nelson.

But Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, the laff-riot whose highlights were an incredible performance and supposedly improvised scenes held together by a rickety structure of a silly “script” that got our hero from point A to point B, gets an Academy Award® nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Go figure.
