Newsgasm: Dreamgirls invade Laguna Beach

MTV’s Laguna Beach has taken its hits for, among other things, its lack of ethnic diversity (except for Cami, who includes several ethnicities in one package), but this week’s episode will get an infusion of inner city soul– and Broadway belting– as Beyoncé, American Idol‘s Jennifer Hudson and the Dreamgirls cast invade the steamy teen skinfest to stake their first claims to this year’s Oscars.

During the first commercial break.MTV will premiere the whopping two minute and forty five second trailer for the DreamWorks-Paramount movie musical (and Best Picture contender) amid tomorrow night’s episode. We might have picked a network like Bravo to showcase this glitzy showbiz extravaganza, but MTV’s in the same corporate family, they know marketing, and Laguna Beach is bound to attract more viewers.

After the Lagunadebut, the Dreamgirlstrailer moves to MTV onlineexclusively until midday Thursday. Dreamgirls traces the rise of a singing trio based on the Supremes– and not too far from Destiny’s Child. Former TV stars Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy are said to turn in blockbuster performances. Now, back to the beach…
