Newsgasm: New Top Chef host hates reality TV, loves Salman Rushdie

The second season of Bravo’s Top Chef kicks off Wednesday with another trophy wife as host. And how can they go wrong when she poses for pictures like the one above? Well, Padma Lakshmi may be a sexy model and actress who once wrote a cookbook, but she’s a serious type who’s known for flaunting a hideous scar on her arm, says she hates the reality genre– and just happens to be married to Salman Rushdie.

Sounds like the next TV superstar.

“I hate reality TV, I have to tell you,” the latest reality TV discovery tells the LA Times. “I think a lot of it brings out the worst common denominator of the human spirit.”Sexy Padma, of course, promises “a very high-caliber, high-brow food show. I didn’t want it to turn into some kind of schlocky reality piece of fluff that I would feel embarrassed about.”

We get it. Less Hell’s Kitchen, more Satanic Recipes.

Padma’s doing all she can to separate herself from last season’s host, mouth-breathing Katie Lee Joel, who probably had a hard time keeping hubby Billy Joel away from the cooking sherry. Katie Lee’s 32 years younger than Billy. Rushdie’s only got 23 years on Padma.

Padma should remember this is Project Runway with meat cleavers. And for the contestants’ sake, she ought to keep Rushdie away from the set– and make sure the recipes are non-fatwa-ing.

    I am going to enjoy snarking on this bitch. I hope that centipede scar on her arm will be hidden during the food tasting segments b/c it already makes my stomach turn.

    And, just so you know Miss Priss, there WILL BE schlocky reality fluff…it’s BRAVO!

    I’m a little disappointed about the new host. At first it seemed that Katie Lee might have given the Chenbot a run for her money, but she actually got likeable near the end. I’m sad to see her go.

    Dear Lord, and I thought it couldn’t get anymore BORING. Everytime Padma opens her mouth, I fall asleep. She speaks too slowly, and slurs some of her words. Snore. Besides that, I’d think to be a judge on a competitive cooking show, one would have to actually eat. She looks like she’s skipped more than a few meals, or maybe she’s just puked them all up. If she doesn’t like reality TV, I’m sure many people would like to show her the door. She sucks as a host. I’ll take Katie over this wench any day.

    This woman cannot express emotion. I also noticed her face never moves when she talks..neither do her lips. She reminds me of Cindy Crawford hosting “House of Style” in the 90′s. Egh.

    Padmi Laksmi sucks so bad as the new host of Top Chef that they should rename the show Top Tramp. She is positively awful.

    Katie Lee had class and was so enjoyable and humble. Padma is the exact opposite of Katie. All ego and no class. I don’t watch the show anymore although I enjoyed the first season. It’s not worth it with Padma Laksmi as host.

    I guess I’m alone in this but I think Padmi is a wonderful addition to the show! She really exubes class and knows her food! She really makes the show what it is because you are always facinated by her. You don’t have to juggle or swallow knives to host a food show or do you?

    Just another pretty face with no personality No training or background as a chef Goes to show you how superficial Top Chef is as a show Bravo plays it nonstop since they don’t have anything else They used to be a good channel with thought provoking programming These reality shows are mindless crap
