Newsgasm: 3-month sex ban on CW DC series?

The CW network is looking to build up its dramatic credentials by sending its next top model to Washington, and they’re doing it by giving Rod Lurie, the poor man’s Aaron Sorkin, a second chance at TV after his disastrous former-model-as-President show, Commander in Chief at ABC .

The CW has blown the dust off Lurie’s 2004 ABC pilot Capital City, which unfortunately isn’t a live-action version of The Simpsons episode, but a drama about “a young woman’s journey through the (yawn) Congressional landscape”– a young woman who, last time around, had an ironclad rule of waiting three-months before having sex with a guy!The original two-hour pilot starred blonde Crossing Jordan beauty Leslie Bibb (herself discovered on an Oprah Winfrey Show modeling search) as a wide-eyed, liberal ingenue with that three-month sex ban. In light of the Commander-in-Chief debacle, Lurie might want to make that a three-week waiting period, so viewers at least have a chance to see some skin before the series gets the axe.

And since the pilot is being revamped and reshot, Lurie may as well give the project some buzz by updating it to include the Mark Foley sex scandal and making the lead character a male Congressional page (what’s Frankie Muniz up to?) who waits three votes before giving in to a Representative.

Commander in Chief, of course, had one of the quickest rise-and-falls in television history. Former magazine writer Lurie was given the genius auteur treatment, even getting a Sorkinesque “created by” credit in the title. But as he insisted on writing every episode, the show fell far behind schedule, and he was fired as show runner on his own show after he insisted on shooting a violent sex scene featuring a Presidential daughter. Steven Bochco took over and took the show to the grave.

By the way, Capital City was brought to the CW by its head of drama development, Thom Sherman. He developed the show and failed pilot when he was drama boss at ABC. Real original, Thom.
