Newsgasm: Unnecessary Remakes Edition

  • The producers of the forthcoming movie remake of Dallas are apparently looking to cast John Travolta as J.R. and Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen, among others. People seem to be up in arms over the choice of Mr. Travolta, but whatever, I’m just waiting for the 227 movie. [BBC]
  • Brokeback Mountain author Annie Proulx is so pissed that the film didn’t win Best Picture that she’s written a scathing sour-grapes editorial in The Guardian. On the bitterness scale I’d say this ranks somewhere between post-Watergate Richard Nixon and Saddam “I AM THE HEAD OF STATE” Hussein. [E! online]
  • And Jessica Simpson has declined an invitation to a Republican fundraiser and private audience with President Bush out of fear of politicizing her favorite charity, Operation Smile (which, say what you will about Ms. Simpson, is a great charity, so sell all your possessions and send them the proceeds NOW). Republican leaders are miffed; I’m just trying to imagine what kinds of topics an “intellectual conversation” between Ms. Simpson and Mr. Bush might cover. [CNN]

You’d think that Hollywood would learn it’s lesson in remaking TV series into movies…

Starsky and Hutch for example. And let’s not forget about Ms. Simpson in her dreaded, punch myself in the mouth, role as Daisy Duke

#1 – Not only did you list these remakes, but you have them in alphabetical order. Is this in your personal stash of useless files? Are you seriously THAT worked up over this? Ohhhhhhhhh, I see. You were kidding. Great job!

m-ruv, what do you think the cast will look like for 227?

    Queen Latifah, Wanda Sykes?

#1 – I guess “Dallas” is really beloved across the pond. Here, not so much.
Maybe YOU should write an original screenplay! Bet that will cheer you up!

As for the sour grapes Brokeback thingy – man that lady is miffed!
“And rumour has it that Lions Gate inundated the academy voters with DVD copies of Trash – excuse me – Crash a few weeks before the ballot deadline.”

    Holy provincial hellfire!

I guess people who spell honor “honour” and rumor “rumour” don’t like it when Hollywood makes the movies they want to make and vote for movies they want to win awards.

    The nerve of Hollywood!

#8 – Ms. Proulx is American, so I think The Guardian just changed her spellings since it’s a British paper. Most British news sites do that, the colonialist bastards.

i dread the idea of JLo in any movie, and a crappy remake? ugh, she’s from ‘the block’, can’t wait to hear her mangle a southern accent. And John T., he leaves me cold, can’t really enjoy him in movies anymore, after reading the Scientology article he, along with the rest of those whackos give me the creeps

That Proulx woman needs to be shot. What a self-important c**t. Seriously, that’s just the way the Oscars roll, since forever. Who the eff takes it as an objective measure of quality. And what about the possibility that some people just weren’t that impressed with BBM *shock*. Dumb bitter bitch.

Um, #8 I have no idea what you’re on about there. She’s just a pompous cow, no need to pit nations against each other.

Yes, well I may have been exaggerating just a wee bit.

Point is I attribute her being a self-righteous ass to her being a self-righteous ass, not to being British, Canadian, American, or whatever else.

J-whore as Sue Ellen? Ick. When will that disgusting vile whore that is J-Lo go away, forever? She is a plague of filth on this country.

I agree with Katie. The only movie with JLo in it that I’ve seen is Jersey Girl, and only b/c I’m a Kevin Smith fan and knew that she died early on in the film.
