The British have given American the blueprint for just about every reality series, as well as a few successful sitcoms, so it’s only fair that now they’re getting get their own version of Laguna Beach.

MTV and the producers of the long-running UK teen soap Hollyoaks have teamed up to make an eight-part series based on the reality series that exposes the “The Real O.C.”

They’ll focus on a group of 16- to 18-year-olds in the town of Alderley Edge in Cheshire– just south of rough-and-tumble Manchester. Not quite as glamourous and flesh-friendly as the Southern California coast, but the area is home to a lot of millionaire pop stars and athletes– including David Beckham and Skinny Spice. And Hollyoaks is known for putting its female stars in bikinis as often as possible. For the pilot, the teens will organize and attend a Valentine’s Day ball, which should lead to the drinking and snogging and shagging that’re required.

They haven’t come up with a name for the show yet. How about: Adderley Edge: The Real Area Just South of Manchester?

I live in the UK and watch Hollyoaks and I’m not sure I’d call it a teen soap. Plus, I have yet to see anyone in a bathing suit in 4 months. The show is pretty awesome, though.
But that said, I will definitely be watching this new show.

Yeah, didn’t Hollyoaks have a male rape scene a few years back?

The name of this will be living on the edge and it should be a good show, I only know this because my son is one of the stars. Obviously theres not as much sun as california but it is being filmed in summer and should certainly be a good show.
