Soapdish, HBO

In case you haven’t been watching HBO the past few days, seminal early ’90s comedy Soapdish has been playing at a higher rate than normal. I’m never one to turn down the movie that made Kathy Najimy a star; so I watched it again, and lo and behold, it turns out that even Soapdish in 1991 anticipated the pop culture phenom that is– well, I’ll let you see for yourself.

I am glad I am not the only one who watches this movie whenever I flip by it – usually on HBO Comedy.

I love Cathy Moriarty a/k/a Montana Moorehead and I always crack up when she tells Robert Downey Jr that things need to happen quickly for her since she is 26 years old?!?! Bitch, please. She has stretch marks older than that.

She is so great in that part and let’s not forget Teri Hatcher playing neurosurgeon Monica DeMonaco. A truly underappreciated, if total piece of fluff, movie.

rod randall (kevin kline): you’ve got beautiful eyes

dr monica demonico (teri hatcher): ooh, thanks but they’re nothing compared to my tits.

ah this movie is a classic.

Celeste Talbert (Sally Field)- “I’m not a genius. I’m just a working actress.”

In “Soapdish” Robert Downey Jr sleeps with Cathy Moriarty who is secretly a man. In “Chances Are” he sleeps with Cybill Shepherd as the reincarnated Ryan O’Neal. Then in “Heart & Soul” he is followed by and occasionally possessed by a group of ghosts. Honestly I would love to see a college thesis on the theme of gender and body in RDJs acting work circa 1988-1992.

Don’t forget poppystjames, Robert Downey Jr. was also a cocksucking coke whore in Less Than Zero. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. My best friend is a cocksucking coke whore.

It was so good, I thought I had a case of brake fluid.. bran flavor… BRAIN FEVER. Seriously, I thought my brain might laterally explore, er, literally explode.

(Sorry, I watched the climactic scene again just now)

I’d like to thank my high school chapter of the Robert Downey Jr. Appreciation Society for making this day possible. I would further like to thank my liberal arts education where I probably could have written said thesis, but I would have had to expand the years to include 1994′s idenity mix-up “Only You.” Viva TVgasm where people accept my nonsense!
