The eyes of the future
So much information, yet we’re always left with more questions. Is that what keeps us coming back? In the Greatest Hits episode we saunter through Charlie’s past and relive his 5 favorite moments. Thank God there is a Sharpie on the island so that we can see him writing down his top 5, which we learn is for Claire to receive after he sacrifices himself, in order to become the ultimate hero and save his beloved and the rest.
Catch you on the flip…

This time you have to die
In Desmond’s most recent vision, he sees Claire and Aaron in a helicopter on a rescue mission, which seems like the best of news to Charlie, however, that’s not all Dessie saw. He also saw Charlie swimming to the depths of the ocean to “flip a switch” under the yellow light in “The Looking Glass” at which point he will drown. The rescue can’t happen unless Charlie dies. Because of his “Greatest Hits” we learn that Charlie overcame his fear of swimming at an early age and can actually hold his breath under water for 4 minutes, which is how he convinces Jack and friends that he is up to the job.

His big moment
Speaking of Jack, up to this point we are not quite sure what he is up to with this Juliet situation. In this episode we have one of those powerful Jack moments when he reveals that he is aware of the double agent situation in Juliet and introduces Rousseau as she appears from the jungle. They have a plan and the others are coming, told to us by Carl (Alex’s boyfriend) who canoe’d himself over to tell them that the bad guys are coming early to abduct Kate and Sun. Jack is back. And I don’t mean Jack Bauer.

She’s a liar
And so we have the radio tower that we have to get to, which is controlled (you guessed it!!) underwater which is understood to be flooded according to Juliet. If they un-jam the tower, they can use the cool phone thingy that Naomi has to contact her boat (hmmm suspicious). The Others are jamming the transmission in order to prevent anyone from contacting the outside world or contacting the island, and from allowing Rousseau’s 16-year-old SOS signal/ banter from getting out. Here’s Charlie again!!

You all everybody
At this point we are sure that he is ready to sacrifice himself because we have heard and experienced his Top 5. 1. Hearing “You All Everybody” on the radio (BTW Are there more lyrics to this song?) 2. Learning to swim with Dad- overcoming fear. Hmmmmm. Full Circle. 3. On Christmas junkie, hot brother/ bandmate Liam gives him an heirloom ring with the initials “DS” – Dexter Stratton anyone? 4. We have seen this one before by from another perspective (of course), Charlie saves a woman from being mugged, in the rain, in an alley and she calls him a “hero”. I don’t think all viewers realize that this woman is from Sayid’s past! 5. Charlie meet’s Claire. That is The Greatest Hit.

I would die for you
So before going to drown for Claire to fulfill his destiny he places the ring in Aaron’s Crib and off he goes with Desmond to follow the wire to The Looking Glass. While our “planners” come up with enough TNT to blow up the Others when they come to the marked tents to abduct the girls. In the canoe Charlie prepares to give Desmond the Top 5 letter when Desmond decides he wants to go instead of Charlie. Desmond looks like Jesus in this scene. Anyway, we think, for a second that Charlie is going to let him go when he reaches for the oar and knocks “Jesus” out!! Another moment of power. He dives down to find the yellow light and turn of the fateful switch. We know he has 4 minutes and he can’t be out of breath yet, when we see a portal with a yellow glow. I don’t think I was breathing either when he swims through the portal to find that… It’s not flooded!!

Clocking Jesus
He comes up for air into a underwater vessel that “seems” like the end, until 2 hot chicks with guns capture him and we see Charlies “Holy Shit!” face that we will miss if he dies. We end at this. Almost. They couldn’t leave us without some closure on the Top 5, so they sneak in a moment when Claire picks up the baby and walks away, we see the “DS” ring, bright as day, left all alone in the crib. Thoughts that go on all night: Who are they? Are they others? Is Charlie really going to drown?? Where is Locke? (Of course he has powers and can heal himself. We wait for the Real Hero to return) And on a side note: Where have Bernard and Rose been this whole time? My bet is that they brought them back to kill one of them, because we know Bernard can’t be a good shot. And we kinda care about the guy.

So everyone’s happy,
Lost Gurl
More to come for this week’s episode…

Um…Greybishop?
This episode really endeared me to Charlie.
I think the DS thing will come up later. There’s no way they’d pay so much attention to the ring and its meaning if Mr. Straton wasn’t important somehow.
“You All Everybody” ?
Although I actually like that better or perhaps a southern US version “Dang Y’All… Everybody!”
I believe it was actually “You ARE everybody”
But cheers good entry anyway
Um, alright. Strangley short and straight to the point recap.
And to #3, it is “You All Everybody”. I’ve seen it close captioned that way a few times. Though I was confused by the accents at first, too.

Oops, didn’t mean to post twice. It usually doesn’t let me do that.
Incredibly disappointing recap. Thats all I have to say.
For a recap that is over a week late…this was a let down. Seriously. Where is Greybishop? I need my side notes!
kronus,
I guess I appreciate the effort to just get something up and set the table for the finale, but doesn’t someone owe us an explanation as to what happened to Greybishop? Is he gonzo temporarily? permanently? Recappers develop a following here and it isn’t right if someone leaves to act as if they never existed.

I don’t want to be rude, but that was a very weak recap. I was looking forward to the last two episodes recaps and that was pretty bad. I know complaining about a recap that is free and takes someone elses time to write is stupid, but still…

sorry for the doubles. don’t know what happened.
Say it ain’t so!!!!!! Where are u greybishop……needed to read your comments……having the shakes….convulsions….well maybe not that bad. I hope all is well in your world and that you will post again when you can. Catch you in another life brotha!
seriously, not a good recap. i’d have rather not had one at all than have this one. first off- not thrilled with the fact that you put charlie’s top 5 moments in reverse order. number 1 was meeting claire. that’s what made it so sweet.
greybishop- where are you?!
Kronus, thanks for pinch-hitting for Greybishop. Your efforts are appreciated.
Folks, sometimes real life gets in the way of our best intentions and personal pleasures. Writing Lost recaps IS a personal pleasure for Greybishop too. He hasn’t abandoned us. GB is working on the finale as we speak. It’s a big one! Have patience. Thanks, guys.
Personally, I was happy to see Rose and Bernard back on the beach. Also, I feel really bad about taking this long to finally appreciate Charlie….

yeah, what she said.
this is an email from gb
“Hey folks, sorry to have been AWOL.
I’d give you the long winded version, but I doubt you’d want to hear it.
Let’s just call it a “glitch” and move on, shall we?
First, thanks to Kronus for filling the gap while I sorted out my situation.
Second, with any luck and minimal interruptions, the season finale recap
will get posted sometime later today. It’s gonna be long, ‘cuz there’s lots
to deal with.
Finally, thanks for the kind words and for noticing that I was gone. Makes
a guy feel good, ya know?
Once again, thanks to Kronus for picking up the slack…
Greybishop.”
LIG: Thanks for the update. I was seriously wondering if GB had given up because some people were rude after his last (somewhat short) LOST recap. I enjoy all his insights. As I was watching the finale, I was wondering what he would have to say about certain parts. And, I too was glad to see Rose/Bernard. I was really wondering what happened to him. Also, nice to see Walt, although WAY too old for the short amount of time they’ve been on the island. I guess the mysteries of the island can help explain that one.
Kronus-thanks for helping out…don’t let these posters get you down. GreyBishop is somewhat of a LOST expert, and I think that we were just expecting one of his recaps.

Oh, and about the DriveShaft song…
On one of the season’s special features disc (i think season 1), it was said that “You all everybody” was taken from a quote that some lady was saying. They found it funny, so they wrote a song for the show about it.
I just happened to watch the pilot episode again today, and Charlie mentions that he does the backing vocals for that song, and implies for that song only. He’s not a singer but is proud of his little singing part of their hit song.
No problem GB, I do not watch TV. I just program my brains out on web servers that were put together by someone else.
I thought that I could elicit the help of a true fan. So many of my friends watch this show and they are fanatical about it. I thought her heart was in the right place for voluntering to write the recap, after telling her of the emails started pouring in.
As some of you know, Madeyoulaugh is out of pocket himself until after the holidays and, once more, as some of you know, I am helping him with some programming on the backend of the server. When I was seeing the emails pouring in for your recap, I asked a fanatical nut of the show, my friend, to write up a quick recap. She did so in under one hour. I grabbed the screenshots and bam! The stuff truly did hit the fan — kind of like my programming.
I don’t know if any of you have seen the mess ups that I’ve caused in trying to automate some processes, but that’s what you guys should have been complaining about.
Sorry if it upset anyone, we were just trying to help out. We won’t do it again. Just joking
We were actually planning to do another one today for this week’s episode, but then we read that GB is back in the hizzy. Is the way you younguns’ say it these days.
I’m old, leave me alone
I need a walking cane and Swedish nurse. No!
We were glad to help out GB and if you need us to ruin a good thing, then just let us know.
Have a good and safe weekend everyone.
Nah, dude, you didn’t “ruin a good thing.” that happened before you got here.
What’s funny is your moniker, “atbunimmurray” is something I’m not sure you’re supposed to admit. I think you’re supposed to hide the fact that this site is owned by them! Whoopsie!
at any rate, at least that made me laugh.
With all due respect to those just trying to help out, is it appropriate to post a recap so obtuse that it states (twice!) Charlie can hold his breath for 4 minutes? Never mind that it was an obvious lie at the time, it’s explicitly pointed out as they’re prepping the boat!
We (okay, I guess should really only speak for myself) read these recaps to catch subtleties that we may have missed and to trade theories, not for elementary school level book report summaries.
On to the summary of the finale, where I expect you to totally redeem yourselves.
