Make it or Break it Recap: It Takes Two

I may have rocked this look in celebration…

Last week the girls arrived at the training center in Colorado to compete for a place on the Olympics team. Their new coach is harder than Sasha and not impressed with the Rock girls. A former junior champ no gym gypsie named Jordan is given a spot on the team after proving that persistence and stalking work. She also has a past with Kaylie that didn’t end so well. Lauren experiences dizzy spells but plays them off in order to keep her spot on the team and Payson finds out her boyfriend kissed a boy and liked it so they break up. Anyway this week is all about Kelly Parker because she’s my second favorite character after Lauren of course.

The girls are woken up at 4am for training where they learn they will be paired up with another gymnast and they have to create a routine for each other showcasing the other’s strengths. The girls will also move into a room together while creating the routine. Wendy and Jordan, Lauren and Payson and Kelly and Kaylie get paired up. YES, Kelly Parker is BACK!! You guys I was so excited to see her because she is totes one of my favorite characters on the show. Yea, she was being puppet mastered by her stage mom but who cares because her sneakiness and backstabbing was first class. She’s so awesome she managed to place second on the board last week and she wasn’t even there. This new Kelly is a little too nice for my liking though, she tells Kaylie they are merging superpowers because they are the best of the best since Kaylie is a National Champion and Kelly is a World Champion. She mentions that it could be worse because Kaylie could have been paired with Jordan.

Superpowers unite!

Kelly asks Kaylie what the deal with Jordan is and Kaylie explains that they used to attend a summer camp together where they were good friends. Kaylie’s side of the story is that Jordan sucked up to the coach until he stopped paying attention to the other girls and eventually iced Kaylie out. Kelly says that because of Jordan’s past she believes that she is the narc who got the girls in trouble for trying to steal back Otis. I think Kaylie is a proven crybaby and there is definitely more to the story than what she is spilling. WAMBULANCE! The coach isn’t paying attention to me! /Gymnast problems.

Someone tell me what her name is please.

Coach Mac and his wife are discussing his heart burn from eating fast food (must have been Jack in the Box) and why he decided to split the girls up. He explains that he believes Kaylie is the glue for the Rock girls and he wants to take them apart so he can build them together stronger. I think Payson has been the rational glue, Kaylie is a follower and Lauren is a free bird who gets guilt tripped or threatened to stay in line. The girls are practicing their routines when Lauren’s hands start to get numb and then she goes into a dizzy spell in front of Payson who asks if she is okay. Lauren plays if off just saying that she needs to eat something.

Diabetes? Hypoglycemia? Faking for Attention?

Austin and Kaylie are walking around campus talking about the commentary class that Austin has signed them up for so that they can get endorsements as a golden couple. Kaylie is stressed out because she has been partnered with KP…I think Kaylie can’t pronounce Kelly because she refers to her as KP the entire episode and it got really grating. Austin warns Kaylie not to trust Kelly because of her past as a slippery snake on the low down. Kaylie tries to defend her saying that it was her mother but Austin reminds her of when Kelly tried to get Kaylie kicked out at Worlds and that people do not change, they just change their tactics. Kaylie reminds him that he used to be a skirt chaser and Austin says that he only chases her skirt now. She retorts that she is wearing jeans and walks off to speak with Kelly. She wants to make sure they are okay because she is weary due to their past and Kelly apologizes and says that the Rock girls showed her that gymnastics is a sisterhood and that she’s happy to be her partner. Kaylie goes to take a shower and Kelly goes through her bag. HAHA YES! I was worried that Kelly really has changed now that Mommie Dearest is not around.

Payson is in a funk.

The girls are practicing their routines but Payson is being a Debbie Downer ever since Max broke up with her. Lauren tells her to suck it up because it is game time and if they mess up they could be kicked off the team. Kelly’s routine for Kaylie appears almost too simple and because of her earlier talk with Austin, Kaylie is weary of Kelly’s intentions. Jordan is having a hard time training with Wendy whom she refers to as Baby G which Wendy thinks means Gangsta. Jordan corrects her and says it means gymnast and disregards the routine Wendy has created for her. Instead she opts to do her own tricks to cement her spot on the team because there is no “we” in “team” for Jordan, only an I. Jordan confronts Kelly and tells her that as much as she wants to be besties with Kaylie it will never happen. Jordan mentions that Kaylie will back stab Kelly the first chance she gets. ABC Family hash tag time!!  The last time I checked #JordanvsKaylie, it was trending more towards Kaylie.

Lauren and Payson aren’t working out since Payson is down in the dumps so Lauren tells Kaylie her plan is to hook Payson up with a replacement boy to get her mind off of Max and back onto gymnastics. Kaylie says it is a bad idea because Payson and Boys do not mix well and makes Lauren promise to forget about it. Lauren agrees to Kaylie’s face but has her fingers crossed behind her back because Lauren is smart. She starts talking to potentials but one has a girlfriend and the other she keeps for herself. Finally, she meets back with Brad and Rigo and convinces Brad to take Payson out for coffee later that day. Brad was the guy who approached Payson at the party and Rigo was the guy Lauren blew off while trying to find out more about Otis from the wrestlers.

Ohhh THAT girl!

Austin is practicing catchphrases for the class he and Kaylie are taking that night while Kaylie mentally practices her routine. She isn’t taking the class as serious as Austin wants her to and is still worried about Kelly. The girls meanwhile are practicing some more when Lauren compliments Payson on the routine she created for her. Payson has regained some focus after sucking it up and they bond a bit. Lauren can’t believe Payson knows so much about her style and strengths (really, she’s only been training with you for years). Coach comes to check on the girl’s progress but Jordan is too focused on perfecting her routine to stop and listen to him which ends up with the girls getting another hour tacked on for conditioning as punishment. Lauren books it out on a bathroom break to find Rigo to tell him that the date with Payson has changed because of the extra hour and to alert Brad.

So I went into your bag and got your measurements, hope that’s oksies!

In the changing room, Kelly presents Kaylie with a custom leo that matches hers. Kelly confesses that she snuck into Kaylie’s bag to get her measurements since Kaylie’s leos are all custom made. Dang, I was hoping she was snooping for her diary again or planting performance enhancers in her lotion. Kaylie is less than thrilled (wait, why is she all upset? they look exactly like ones they wore last season) Jordan walks in after Kaylie leaves and tells Kelly that she will never be a part of the Rock girl’s friendship which Kelly counters that Jordan needs to back off and then calls her a gypsie gymnast. Love.Kelly.Parker. Is there any reason why Jordan is so cold and distant from everyone? Even Emily wasn’t this bad when she first started out.

Payson is in line to get some coffee when a biker comes down the stairs doing all sorts of tricks. For some reason even though the girl next to her can’t see his face, she gets all hot and bothered and bumps into Payson who drops her wallet. As she bends down to retrieve it, the biker stops in front of her and asks her for coffee. So at first I didn’t recognize who this dude was but turns out it’s Rigo you guys! He looks so much hotter without his dirty grandma made crochet hat on. Payson is taken back that a guy is actually speaking to her but she sits and has coffee while waiting for Lauren who obvs cancels on her because it’s a fake date. Rigo does some more tricks for Payson who is beaming from ear to ear before he takes her home on the back of his bike. I’m pretty sure once Payson finds out this was a set up she will flip out on Lauren and I can’t wait for that epicness. #PaysonandRigo…hey wait ABC Family, does this mean we won’t see a love triangle with Max? I do like how natural she appears with Rigo but at the same time I was just starting to like her and Max!

Payson re-enacts her back injury for Rigo.

Lauren meets with the nutritionist (I am POSITIVE they haven’t given her a name yet so I am going to refer to her as Mac’s Wife because I’m tired of calling her the nutritionist) and lies about her persistent symptoms. Mac’s Wife believes her and cancels a body scan that she had planned for Lauren. Kaylie tries on the leo that Kelly gave her but she doesn’t like it even though I am pretty sure pink was always Kaylie’s color. Kaylie explains her concerns about the set up of Payson and Rigo and confesses she does not want to take the class with Austin later that night. The girls agree that she needs to work on what she wants and that if she doesn’t want to do the class, she should tell Austin. Kaylie tells the girls about the matching leo that Kelly gave her and how she hates it because it has ¾ sleeves which show off her hairy forearms. Meanwhile, Wendy walks by and attempts to sit with Jordan who immediately gets up to leave. Jordan notices that Wendy seems sad so she tries to make small talk by stealing Wendy’s banana. Ok Jordan’s been on campus for about a week and she still has homeless people tendencies? Girl you can get food whenever you want, stop snaking other people’s leftovers.

Yeah, you can have that banana you already grabbed off my tray.

Austin and Kaylie are in class waiting for it to start and Austin is clearly nervous. Kaylie finally asks Austin why this class is so important and he confesses that he lost his Kobalt endorsement because they were no longer interested in him now that he is in a relationship. He’s short on cash and is counting on the two of them scoring a deal as a golden couple. Kaylie tries to say that he shouldn’t give up everything because of her but he interjects that he would give up everything for Kaylie and this is when I realize that she is really not into this relationship anymore. I think Kaylie felt compelled to be with Austin since he’s the one that really pushed her into rehab after finding out that she had an eating disorder and was instrumental in her recovery. Anyway, they are called up first as the teacher really believes they can get deals as a golden couple. Austin screws up several takes while filming their commercial reel and ends up leaving the class early. It was actually pretty awkward and cringe worth to watch. The teacher tries to tell Kaylie that she believes she can get her some deals of her own and wants Kaylie’s permission to call ESPN to put in some favors for her. Kaylie doesn’t answer and runs after Austin instead to find out what happened.

Awkward.

The girls are practicing again when Kelly falls while attempting Kaylie’s routine for her. She tells Kaylie that she will have it by the time they do the routines for the coach because she’s been practicing and is close to almost landing it. Jordan walks up and says that if Kelly had been practicing all day she should be able to land it already. Kelly walks off with Kaylie right behind her telling her that she had better get it right because their rankings are dependent on the routines. Kaylie is angry and Kelly tries to pacify the situation by telling her she always comes through in hard times. Kaylie brushes past her and walks off.

WebMD is always right.

Lauren is sitting in her room looking up her symptoms on generic Web MD because the internet will always tell you what is wrong with you better than a doctor can. Several choices pop up but before she can explore any further Payson walks in from taking a shower. Payson is going on another date with Rigo but Lauren decides that she can’t let her friend walk out the door looking like a mess so she offers to dress her up. Kaylie catches up to Austin and tries to cheer him up by telling him he is the sexiest gold medalist around. Okay, so maybe last year he was but this year he looks and acts like he has a drug problem. He’s got terrible teeth, he’s almost always sluggish when he’s around Kaylie and he can barely hold a conversation. Are we going to get an Austin gets busted for drugs storyline? Anyway, he thanks her for not making fun of him but something is definitely bothering him so I’m calling drugs or he’s very broke.

Drugs, I’m calling it now. (side note Cillian Murphy tendencies, no?)

Back to Lauren and Payson, they are really getting along and Lauren has done a great job of making Payson presentable. Lauren asks about Brad and Payson is confused as she is seeing Rigo which leaves Lauren dumbfounded. They start to argue as Payson realizes it was all a set up and then they start throwing hair products and make up on each other. Payson storms out and confronts Rigo telling him that she doesn’t know what Lauren offered to him but he can give it back. Rigo confesses that he really likes Payson and tried to ask Lauren about her at the party but Lauren thought he was interested in her. He says that the opportunity came up and Brad didn’t deserve such a great girl so he took his chance to meet the fireist babe he could. Payson starts smiling pathetically and Rigo grabs a rag and uses his water bottle water to clean her face off since she didn’t realize how terrible she looked with makeup and hair products smeared all over her. Payson finds Lauren in her room and asks her to be a rational non-invasive human being for once in her life and then offers a thank you because she really likes Rigo. They sit on the bed and give each other details about the date. Kaylie and Kelly are in their room getting ready when Kelly observes that Kaylie is not wearing the leo she got her. She is visibly upset but Kaylie could care less.

Coach Mac warns the girls that two of them will be cut at the end of the routine. Kaylie gives Kelly side eye and Kelly responds to not worry because she has it. Payson and Lauren are excited about their routines and they pull them off very well. Jordan tells Wendy she will do her routine and thanks her for crafting it for her. They also do really well leaving Kaylie and Kelly left to go. Kelly falls on the difficult twist she had been practicing which throws off her entire routine. Kaylie tells her when she finishes that it’s up to her to save their asses so she breaks off the routine and throws in some tricks of her own which the coach realizes.

Maybe she lost her contact…

Wendy, Jordan, Lauren, Payson, Kaylie and Kelly all make it although Kaylie and Kelly go down to the bottom of the rankings. Kaylie asks the coach why her rank went down even though she did great stunts. Coach Mac explains that they need to trust one another or take a hike. Kaylie should have trusted Kelly’s routine without adding her own elements to it and Kelly should have asked for help when she was struggling. They walk off and get into an argument where Kelly explains that she is trying to put the past behind them and knows that she can’t compete with the other Rock girls and Kaylie’s friendship. She says that she was excited to be paired with Kaylie but got bummed out when she realized that Kaylie didn’t feel the same way. Kaylie confesses that she had the past stuck in her head and that from now on they should tell each other everything because that is what friends do. Kelly says it’s the two of them all the way and Kaylie smiles. Boooo I liked Sneaky Kelly better!

The REAL Golden Couple

So Gasmii what did you think about this episode? I’m really believing that Lauren has diabetes and that is what will keep her out of the Olympics and I think Payson might get too distracted with Rigo. I don’t care for Jordan or Wendy if you couldn’t tell. I know they had to fill Emily’s role since Chelsea Hobbs said bye bye but Jordan is too hard edged and damaged while Wendy is too optimistic and annoying. Also, Austin, what is his deal? Are you guys noticing how different he is compared to last year?
