MiniCap: Alcatraz

The dark & mysterious side of Hoyt Fortenberry.

True Blood alert! That’s right – for once I referenced a show that isn’t Lost. I DO watch other things!

How’s it hanging, Gasmii? Y’all sticking with me here? Very interested to hear your thoughts on our latest episode of Alcatraz…

Episode 5 – “Guy Hastings” – took a time out from the show’s typical ‘inmate-of-the-week’ format to give us some much needed back story. The biggest difference in this episode was, of course, that Guy Hastings was NOT a prisoner on Alcatraz – he’s our first reappeared prison guard. Just like the convicts, however, Guy seems to be programmed to do some nasty deeds in 2012, even though he was a solid good guy back in the dizzy.

Guy’s assignment seems to be tracking down one Tommy Madsen, better known as Detective Rebecca Madsen’s grandfather, a reappeared Alcatraz inmate who just happens to be responsible for the recent death of Rebecca’s partner. And if you haven’t been watching the show, I’m sure I completely lost you there.

During the course of his investigation, Hastings finds Rebecca’s Uncle Ray (Robert Forster), who also used to be a guard on Alcatraz, though he left before everyone mysteriously disappeared. Ray grew up with Tommy Madsen, although he always took pains to hide that fact from his fellow Alcatraz guards…but Guy Hastings was on to him, and therefore attempts to use Ray to find Tommy in present day San Francisco.

Whew – I feel like I’m talking in circles here. I hope everyone can follow along, cuz this shit can get CONFUSING, yo.

We find out some VERY interesting information about Ray and Tommy’s relationship throughout the course of the episode, which I will delve into more thoroughly in the full recap…also, with the return of our first guard, we’re finally given a bit more detail on what actually happened that night in 1963, the night when all of the Alcatraz prisoners and guards vanished into thin air. Not enough detail to be able to figure out the mystery, of course, but some intriguing stuff nonetheless.

Please come back in a couple of days for the full recap! In the meantime, let me know in the comment section if there are any questions you’d like me to take a stab at, or if you’ve noticed any interesting tidbits that might shed some light on the secrets of Alcatraz! And if you’d like to catch up with my recap of last week’s episode (Cal Sweeney), you can read it here. Mwah!

Mrs. Snarklesbee chose her moniker because she thought it made her sound A) British, B) adorably elderly, and C) married - only one of which is actually true. Revel in the mystery.

As she grew up in an area where there wasn't much to do outside of watching TV or shooting BB guns at trees, she developed a love for the entertainment industry at an early age and vowed to one day be a part of it, or at least sit on the sidelines making fun of it. But she's still pretty stellar with that BB gun, so there's always a PLAN B - PROFESSIONAL BB GUN SHOOTER PERSON.

Mrs. Snarklesbee loves her dog, long walks on the beach, and making crazy person faces at a-hole drivers in Los Angeles in an attempt to 'scare them into decency.' Because that works, right? RIGHT?!? Things she hates include bagging her own groceries, Hollywood remaking ANYTHING, and a-hole drivers in Los Angeles.

Me! Me! Me! I have a question! Where do they keep the returned prison guard? He isn’t a prisoner so should not be held in the “new” Alcatraz, right? Is there a hotel in those woods for the “good guys”?

Looking forward to the full recap.

I was totally wondering that myself…I’m assuming they can’t just let him go, and he doesn’t deserve to be kept in quasi-Alcatraz…maybe they have a quasi-barracks, too? LOL. GREAT QUESTION!!!

Is it me, or does Parminder Nagra (Lucy) look a little too much like a cleaned up/educated version of Snooki? It’s distracting me.
