Were you worried you wouldn’t ever know what it was like for Chaz Bono to become a dude? Well, don’t.

The show starts out with a warning that there would be some inappropriate nudity and strong language. As far as the nudity goes, if watching a forty year old fat guy walking around with his shirt off while petting his hairless cats (and I don’t mean pussies either), then that’s the most skin you get to see through the whole documentary. Strong language? On Oprah’s Network? Not on your life. It was all bleeped out. Let me say this, Chaz Bono is a dude. Not once did I ever think he wasn’t anything but a man.
This documentary is suppose to bring us along on Chaz’s transition from female to male with the help of his girlfriend Jen. I was worried that they were going to take the cameras right into the operating room and let us witness first hand the graphic removal of Chastity Bono’s 6 lb boobs. I don’t do graphic! These are the boobs that Chaz hated. The promos even warned me about the “graphic” surgery. NOT! They didn’t show anything. He went home the same day with a binder around his chest and two drain tubes that were kinda gross, especially when Jen had to empty them… ewww! When it was all over and he was healed enough to have the binder removed, he was just a fat guy with man boobs and a big gut. He kinda looks like my oldest kid.
If anyone was expecting him to get a penis operation, that ain’t happening. During the documentary, he went to a transgender convention and there was a seminar on the latest technology in Dong Building. Chaz decided that it wasn’t good enough to risk the surgery. Besides, he was told that with the testoterone shots (that he will have to take for the rest of his life), his clit will grow 2-4 inches and one guy’s even grew 6 INCHES! That’s as good as a penis. Just ask Chyna.
If you were expecting to see a big mother/son moment (I was) with Chaz and Cher, it never comes. Chaz spends time with his grandma and his aunt (Cher’s mom and sister), he also is with his dad’s family and brother & sister, even Jen’s family. Cher is seen in interviews with the documentary producers answering questions and on David Letterman. Only at the very end, when the credits are rolling, she comes out of the backstage door at the premiere of “Burlesque” to greet Chaz and Jen and have a picture taken with them for the documentary. WTF?
The BEST part of the whole show was the knock on the door and guess who stopped by to play video games? None other tha RuPaul! Watching them giggling while they dress their warriors on their game was hilarious! I’m just wondering how much of it was a set-up or if they are truly friends, seeing how the producers are the same ones who do RuPaul’s show.
Becoming Chaz is on the OWN channel all week! Check local listings.
If you like it, spread it!:

I bet Oprah and Gail are paying real close attention to Chaz’s story. Because someday, one of them is going have to be the man…
@NWMTV: Bwahhahaah!
My initial thought would be why would you pay to get a penis but not get lipo while you at it? You are depressed that you dont have a peen but the extra 100 lbs hanging around doesnt bother you. The damn penis is microscopic already and mainly for cosmetic purposes but how will he be able to even see the damn thing!
okay so I take my statement back since I obviously didnt read the the minicap. He just got the boobs before! But my point still remains: Why would you only remove the boobs and not all the stomach fat. That makes no sense
Can’t believe I missed, but I’ll try and catch a rerun before the full post. Heard a friend discuss . . . sounded interesting. As for Cher . . .I imagine being “Cher” can take away from personal family times. Many families resent their famous siblings . . . who knows . . . maybe she was on set filming Burlesque . . .
@ idiots: If you cannot keep your nasty comments to yourself, do not post on here. There is no need for that kind of hate on this site.
Isn’t it typical that a fat man/transexual can land a pretty skinny girl? Granted the money may have a little something to do with it, but still…..never a fat ass woman with a hot man. So unfair!
ohralphie – it is a rule as old as the Honeymooners!
Lauryn…word! What happened to after school activities for some of these kids?
Eek! I’m on the bus and it’s taking all I have not to drop my sleeping baby and curl up in fetal position at the idea of a 4″-6″ clit. OMG, that would be torture! It would rub against your clothing all day and by the time you whip it out to use it, it would be numb. HaHa! But I sure as hell would burn all my cordoroys! Ouch.
Chaz or Chastity, it doesn’t matter. He’s still disgusting to look at.
Who’s idiots? I’ve never seen him/her post before.
I have to ask myself, did I watch to learn more about transgenders? No. To learn why girls wanted to be boys? No. To see Chaz Bono because he’s Cher’s daughter/son? Yes. Did I find it freakish or offensive? Not at all. Did I think it was wrong? Not at all.
@itchy, I think I saw a post by him a week ago. He was insulting posters for watching/liking certain shows. Hopefully, this is the last we’ll see of him.
I can’t even imagine what it must be like to feel your body has betrayed you! Yes he needs to lose weight, but what a brave person to tell their story!
I have to admit, I also thought “well, why not have lipo while you’re at it?”. I am guessing that there wasn’t a lot of “Cher” in the film because it was about Chaz and his journey, not his mother (who happens to be Cher, in this case).
I’m a lesbian, and my partner and I watched this together. We have both been married to men previously, but we said sort of the same thing that Rosie O’Donnell said in the interview after the show. Rosie said something to the effect of; she is a LESBIAN and would have a problem with her parner turning into a man. So would we. But I guess Jen is ok with it. Our thought was that there is a difference between a voluptous woman and a fat man.
The weight might not have been such a glaring issue had Jen’s first question after the surgery not been “how much weight did he lose”. I found that to be an odd question.
I also found it odd that Chaz mentioned that his friends (the lesbian couple, whoever they are) paid for his surgery. Huh? Your Mom is freakin’ CHER and your Dad was Sonny Bono. Did he not want to take their money, did they not offer it, or what?
All that to say – I think he looks better as a man (overweight or not) than he ever did as a woman and I’m very happy for him. I can’t imagine being so miserable in your own skin. And I’m not even going to think about a 6″ clit…yikes.
I’m certainly no scientist, but I do not understand this “transition” concept. You either have two X chromosomes or an X and Y chromosome, save for a genetic mutation. Unless someone can change at a chromosomal level, you can’t actually change gender. Being a transexual, to me, then becomes like having an expensive Halloween costume you can’t get rid of. It may make for an interesting documentary, but it is hoping to become something you’ll never actually be.
Oh, and @ohralphie, I think the money and the fame have a LOT to do with it. I didn’t find Jen particularly likable…then again I certainly don’t claim to know her.
Derek Hazelton…you are correct about the chromosomes. That’s why regardless of the surgery when Chaz dies, the death certificate will read “female” because they are based on chromosomes and DNA.
I just assumed Jen was bisexual. I haven’t seen the documentary yet. I loved Chaz on Celebrity Fit Club and I’m disappointed to see he hasn’t lost any of his weight since then & if I may be so bold to say it looks like he’s gained even more since them =(
LOVE ME SOME RUPAUL!!
