What could possibly go wrong?

Good morning, Gasmii!

Well, after a relaxing clip show and long holiday weekend, we are back to our gritty, glaring portrayal of life on the streets at Abby Lee Studio.

This week the girls head to Nexstar in Akron, Ohio, which is dangerously close to Crazy Cathy and her Candy Apple’s. Naturally, the Apple’s will be making an appearance and Jabby is determined not to get beaten by them by one point again, because the scars from Jersey still haven’t healed. The group dance is called “Land Unforgiven” and is about encroaching on someone’s territory. Subtle, right? So anyway, all the girls will be in the number and Jabby is even bringing in some older girls as ringers because a) that’s what Cathy is notorious for and b) Jabby wants to beat Cathy at all costs.

Chloe is doing a solo called “Angry Bird” and Paige will finally get to do the “Tongue Twister” solo that has been the subject of so much Sturm und Drang. But of course, there is a catch. Jabby will not be rehearsing with Paige at all since by NOW she should know the damn dance. That sounds like a winning formula, doesn’t it? Especially when Kelly decides that her dance experience from 20 years ago qualifies her to change Paige’s choreography. Naturally, “drama” ensues!

In Ohio, Cathy hires two choreographers to design a number exploiting every Asian stereotype in existence. Kendall will do a solo competing against Paige and Shrill is unhappy because she hasn’t been feeling that crazy apple love from Cathy lately. She spends a good deal of the episode living up to her nickname, complete with fake tears. Gee, it’s almost like they are setting her up to come “back” to Jabby. I WONDER WHAT WILL HAPPEN???

I will have all the gripping details up in a couple of days. Until then, feel free to discuss HOW RIDICULOUS this show has become. They’re not even trying to make it plausible anymore. What will they do next? Add a dream sequence? Tell us that Jabby Lee Miller is really the figment of an autistic child’s imagination? I can’t wait.

Anyway, as always, thanks for reading and have a great day!

xoxo,
SnoopK8

Yeah they are not fooling anybody. Kendall was wearing the same costume Paige wears in a solo I found on youtube. Kendall still dances with Abby Lee.

I don’t blame Kelly honestly. I have seen Paige’s choreography on several solos and Abby doesn’t give her a lot of dancing. She sticks more to acro moves and kicks and butt shaking like Kelly said. I know Paige can do the turns and leaps so why not put more of that in there? Or give her something besides acro jazz? I think acro jazz is her strong point, but it is good to try different things too to challenge yourself.

I thought Chloe’s costume was fierce but I don’t know about the “Angry Bird” theme. What?!

I thought the Asian dance was a hot mess and reminds me of our nemesis we often went up against. They always did these crazy so much going on numbers and our more simple numbers with just dancing usually beat them. I thought Abby’s group number was very pretty, but I don’t get the theme she was going for and don’t think she pulled that off.

Sometimes it is okay to not have a theme. Just a lovely dance to lovely music with a lovely costume is okay.

It is clear Cathy is OVER the show and is only doing it for contract reasons. She refused to fight on camera like they wanted. She did not even want to bother choreographing the number. She was trying to be classy and while she is not classy she at least did not lose her cool. She won’t be on the show once her contract is up.

Oh yeah and I was LOLing at the guest choreographer when Jill was ranting and crying to him. Like this guy just met you and I doubt he freaking cares! He was trying to be nice about it but was fighting back a laugh the whole time!

Here are the results from the competition, Nexstar in Akron, Ohio. Candy Apple’s and ALDC both had a ton more dances than were shown. I think Mackenzie, had a solo, because someone from ALDC placed in the petite division. Also, Justice’s dance “Shipwrecked” dance placed fifth in front of Chloe and Paige but they didn’t show it. Chloe also won the junior costume award for her dance.

    SPOILER ALERT

I think these are next week’s results, because in the preview Leslie and Payton are back and here Payton has a solo, and the dates are one week after the Ohio competition. Maddie, Chloe, Payton, and Brooke have solos. I found the group dance and the solos, plus a trio by Nia, Paige, and Mackenzie.

My vote for Snoop’s what’s-really-real pool: this show is actually a completely scripted creation of Twitter, which plans soon to add advertising and wants to ensure that we junior detectives are first properly addicted to the dance moms’ Twitter feeds. Muahaha.

Oh, and speaking of Twitter, has anyone asked ALDC’s REAL choreographer, Gia (Gianna Martello, sometimes seen on the show), how she feels about Kelly et al slamming her, Gia’s, choreo? Because on Twitter, Gia often admits that she choreographs all the girls’ routines (that the dance moms then slam as “ABBY’s stale choreography’). But hey, choreography by a nice, smart, non-drama-whore that all the girls love and Lifetime can’t make act witchy, doesn’t make for good tv….

    Gia’s Twitter is https://mobile.twitter.com/#!/giaabella .

The theme to me seemed to be about settlers.

I wasn’t a fan of Kelly’s before but now I really can’t stand her. How could she tell Paige that she didn’t care if she got yelled at? I understand why she would want more challenging choreography for Paige, but she knew she was throwing Paige to the wolves by changing it. I wish we got to see the original choreography for the dance so we could compare, and see if it was as bad as Kelly says.

This episode was just too contrived and fake. Are we really supposed to believe that Abby wouldn’t go over a dance and just throw the kid out there? Oh, but luckily Kelly used to take dance and can teach her new choreography (which didn’t really look like an improvement to me) and even run it in Abby’s studio while being filmed without anyone finding out somehow. Jill’s fake tears and the obvious foreshadowing of Kendall returning to the ALDC were terrible too. The guy supposed to comfort her looked like he was about to laugh the whole time.

I thought Cathy was off during the episode, and I think you guys might be right that she is over it. Hopefully if she stops her over-the-top annoying acting for the cameras they will let her go. I hate all the time wasted on the Candy Apples. That just takes even more time away from seeing actual dancing. Things are always faker when the Candy Apples are involved so maybe them leaving would mean less scripting.

Did Christi seriously complain about Chloe doing to many bird solos? I know complaining is her thing, but really?

One thing I was glad to see was Maddie get a week off. Chloe got one earlier too, so hopefully those two won’t be pushed to the brink again this season. I don’t know if I could handle seeing another kid break down.

    @Alice….is that a real comment?

Yeah, this show is pushing it now. I have no idea why they messed with the formula so much, because the 1st season bat shit crazy realness is what we’re looking for & I’m personally getting bored with the over the top b.s. There is no way in hell Kelly could’ve changed that routine without Abby knowing it & all hell not breaking loose. That forced argument was just that…forced. If Kelly would’ve pulled that shit at a real studio that would’ve been the last time she danced with that studio & Abby never would’ve went for that shit in real life.

And the Cathy thing, I didn’t get the feeling that she was over it. I got the feeling that she put a lot into that number and was ashamed with the results. All the other shit was fake, but she had a lot invested in this comp in her hometown & the choro she bought should’ve been enough to beat Abby and when it wasn’t she wasn’t happy. The only thing I believe about the whole Kendall thing is that Cathy really is over Jill’s ass & since she knows Kendall can’t really beat Abby’s girls she’s over her.

I have several questions, is it possible that the dance that Paige did has been worked on multiple times before so that’s why Abby wasn’t going to run it 2 or 4 days before the comp? Maybe it’s something that they’ve been working on… I’m really annoyed with Christi and Kelly, Kelly complains when her daughters “are not given a chance” but then when they are she says that they are being set up to fail? Which is it Kelly, do you want them to dance solos or not? Christi complaining about the bird thing was stupid, just like Chloe said, people says that she does dark well, so she thinks that’s why she gets dark numbers…. I do think that Abby tries to play to the strenghts of the dancers, which at times my hurt them (i.e. paige, nia, brooke and mac seem to only get acro routines).

I also thought that Cathy looked ashamed that her group number didn’t win. I think that she wasn’t fighting back because what do you say when you lose more than you win against someone? That or she saw herself on tv and realized that she was acting batshit crazy… but I doubt that, that would be logical.

The Kelly and dance changing thing. Agh why do they force me to side with Abby. I actually got her on why she wasn’t running it with her. She had been given rehearsal time for it. Over weeks of time she could have run it in her own time many many many many times. If you don’t know your performance practice. I want to side with the moms, really. Anything you learn and want to do really well you have to work at. If you learn how to do math problems at school you go home and practice til you can do the formula every single time. I feel like running their dances should be homework and I’m always shocked the mothers think that every bit of dance should be contained to class time. When they are this serious about dancing, when its your life then get with the program..if they were a casual dance class then I would think it could be a in studio only type of thing, but its not. The moms need to walk the walk on this one.

I get that these are little girls and so not rehearsing could seem harsh, however I think given the rehearse build up build up..no performance..on repeat. She needed to let Paige practice on her own and realize she wanted it enough to pull it off. Kelly changing it just looked like she was torturing her daughter by putting her in the middle “I know she’ll get in trouble but I don’t care at this point.” was icky to me. When Abby came in after the dance and had words with Paige and then Kelly hugged her and comforted her…ahh all I could think was YOU did that to that little girl. It was very “Go play in the flames….aww come here let mommy kiss your burn better” Even if she could do a bit more advanced stuff she needed to prove herself with flawlessly showing how she had mastered the easy stuff. Also “My kid doesn’t know her dance.” has been her complaint…how is changing the dance going to help her remember her dance? If her kid learned all that new stuff..then I guess you need a new complaint other than not having enough time to learn the dance. All that proved was if she goes over it on her own over and over she will learn the moves.

Second thing—Kathy won by just a smidge last time. She knew Abby was going to bring it as much as possible this time. new choreographers were brought in. All I could think was, well if they lose now she can skirt the blame. “Well it wasn’t MY choreography that lost to them.” I felt bad for the guest choreographers..like they were brought in to sacrifice to let Cathy save face.

My take on a bunch of highly edited out of order scenes.

Elle, I only saw the second half of the episode (I know my mom would take this show too literally so I’m waiting until I have the house to myself) but I agree with everything you said. Listening to Kelly was pretty brutal–more than usual! FREE PAIGE! Didn’t necessarily agree with everything Abby had to say (yell) on the matter, assuming that she was at this point yelling at Kelly (I’m really not sure), but we’ve more or less agreed Abby is not very effective at speaking. I’m gonna save my sanity by assuming it was a phrasing problem and not that she meant to say it was Paige’s idea to change the dance. If it was and I just missed it, my bad, but what I saw it didn’t sound like it!

I definitely think that Abby is lacking in the communication department, but I often find myself getting where she is coming from. Like the episode when all the moms had to make cheap costumes (Kendalls mom brought an outfit from a dance Abby had not seen that episode) and the whole episode she was freaking out about it and it seemed unreasonable. At the end when she said “I wanted the girls to know they can win without an expensive costume.” It completely made sense.

Her delivery is awful but I think the messages have value..though they may be from producers and not Abby?

@Elle – I have to agree with you. I think at this point Abby just has a bad way of communicating, I think that she might be stuck in her 14 yo self, having to prove that she is boss. I think if she said things a little different it would come across a little easier, although, I have to say I get where she is coming from most of the time. Abby wants them to win, now they have to want to win…

Abby: “Paige, you need to beat Kendall, even though Kendall never left ALDC, since we are lying and pretending she takes dance in Ohio now. You also need to rehearse your solo (which you’ve never actually competed) all by yourself without an instructor. But you can have some of my limited studio space to rehearse all by yourself, so the producers can film how that goes. Gee, I will be SO surprised if your mom–who has been complaining about the choreo–changes Gia’s–I mean, my–choreo during your secret rehearsals. I typically run through the numbers with the kids before they go on, but, guess what? The competition is running 30 minutes ahead, so we won’t do that this time.”

Kelly is absolutely complicit in setting her kid up for the big dramatic scene where Paige is crying on camera and Abby is yelling. The scenario is fake, fake, fake, and obviously set up for the show, but Paige’s tears are real, and Abby’s yelling is real.

I feel dirty for even watching this show. I think I am done with it, as much as I love watching these talented girls rehearse and perform. It’s just so cynically exploitative, and I don’t like the way they have the kids lie for the sake of the “plot.”

Gah, I agree with you. Hey, the Kardashians or The Hills grownups can fake a “reality” show; I don’t care. But I feel dirty here. Kids aren’t savvy enough to shrug off fake drama and they are truly hurt when the grownups they love are insulting and yelling at each other: right in the kids’ presence, and even more in the interviews that are edited into the shows – that the moms admit the kids watch.

I wouldn’t mind a 50-state ban on kids participating in ANY way on “reality” shows. Even, say, legit singing competitions (trying to think of an sample where show reducers aren’t encouraging the participants to insult each other or fake drama) hurt the kids who lose, and it’s not okay to multiply that by broadcasting their tears for peers to see. Adults can opt into whether they want to air or act their dirty laundry. For kids, the emotions are real and they lack the savvy to weigh their options whether to participate.

This show is getting so stupid. Do they get that people are getting the real info online and don’t believe what they’re showing? It’s terrible to do that to the girls – their tears are real as someone said.

I read an interesting article that said we’ve had child stars before (and we all know how that turns out), but this is the first generation that will have child reality stars and it’s unknown what affect it will have on them. Why would anyone do this to their kids? I just hope they don’t end up sharing a jail cell with those Gosselin kids.

I also am not a fan of kids on reality shows. At least not on ones that can be negative. If adults want to sign up for that, let them. But kids really don’t even hardly get a choice in it and they can’t make those decisions. I do wonder and worry how all these kid reality stars will turn out. Having their potty training aired on national tv. Having their peers see them crying when they forgot their dance on stage. It just seems like fodder for bullying.

They act like solos and duets/trios given have a direct correlation with the previous week’s competition at the pyramid but we already saw in the ‘Maddie doesn’t dance’ episode that they have to register everyone a long time in advance. So my theory is: since everyone already knows in advance who is doing something that week, Abby has to figure out some fault (any fault!) + pyramid rank that wouldn’t clash with dance assignments for the viewers. Hence why we get weird critiques about chewing gum and stuff like that.

I think Chloe is having confidence issues again. I didn’t feel her character again this week and can’t remember the last time she hasn’t seemed frantic before going onstage for her solo.

Kelly seems incapable of thinking of the long term. You just know Paige is getting sent right back to probation and last place on the pyramid. What’s that Kelly? If Paige gets what you think is sucky choreo again, you’ll change it again? Hahahaha What makes you think she’s getting another solo?! First she doesn’t dance, then she goes out and does a changed, unpolished routine! Talk about self sabotage… Nia practically never get solos or special parts, but at least Abby can count on her to actually dance and do her best. All Kelly is doing is hurting Paige by making her appear unreliable and frankly too big a risk to send onstage, even though she’s really passive and won’t go against her mom. This episode was excruciating to watch for me. WTH Kelly!
