Minicap: Dance Moms

Driving Miss Crazy

Good morning, Gasmii!

And welcome to your season finale, at long last. Can you believe that when this season started, I was a fresh-faced 18-year-old debutante and now I am a washed-up cougar trolling the bars under Port Authority? I blame this show.

So basically, they are still in LA where they go to Energy Dance Invitational NATIONALS or something like that. The group dance is called “The Last Text” and it’s reminiscent of those “dead teen” songs from the 60s and 70s (Run, Joey, Run anyone?) Mack, Maddie and Brooke get solos but the fourth solo is up for grabs. Chloe, Kendall and Nia will have to compete for it and the moms will judge who wins. That goes about as expected, but it doesn’t matter, because Jabby has her mind made up anyway.

In other news, the Crazy Apple’s are back for a final appearance, Paige goes on a photo shoot and Kelly really needs to up her anxiety meds.

I have to say, last night’s episode was reminiscent of season one and made me remember why I actually started watching this show in the first place. The drama was restrained, there was lots of dancing, the group number had an insane theme and can you say “return of the Bee Dance”?!

All in all, a very satisfying finale. Unfortunately, there are still two reunion episodes that will probably erode my good will, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it.

Full ‘cap up in a couple, until then, here’s last week’s in case you missed it.

Thanks for reading, and have a fantastic day!

 xoxo,

Wow, I have the first post! I basically have two things to say: 1, Melissa continued looking pregnant through this episode. 2, I didn’t like what Kendall said during her interview after Chloe won the solo. I didn’t like how she was like, “I can beat Justice and we already know Chloe can’t.” Or something to that effect. One thing I love about this show is how supportive the girls are of each other, no matter how the moms act. I can’t remember a girl saying something negative about another one, ever (other than the Payton incident).

Also, go Chloe! So nice to see her win. Maddie’s dance looked the same of course, but Chloe’s gave me goosebumps. I am glad Maddie was a gracious “loser” though… 1/5 of a point, wow!

Pretty sure I saw Brooke with a hickey on the episode on her neck.

I thought Chloe did very well. Best this season. She finally showed some true emotion in her face. She looked flawless.

I thought CACD number Sucked. I found the ALDC number very moving too even though I feel Abby goes for the obvious with those kind of numbers. Better hope my DH never is a judge, he hates obvious things that try to get feeling out of you like that. Abby really did kick butt though at that comp with a clean sweep in all categories. So glad all the girls won titles.

I think Justice will be a ALDC dancer before too long. He probably would be better off. I heard Chloe, Maddie and Justice are good friends. I do think Justice is very talented and has a promising career in dance. Did you notice Erika and Taylor (think that is their names?) were also in top ten for solos but not beating our girls. Lower down.

Kendall broke my heart. I hated seeing her so upset like that. It was real. She is always so quiet and doesn’t show a lot of emotion so to see her like that, just killed me. Poor little sweetie.

Oh yeah and Paige looked great! She really is gorgeous! She could have a career in modeling and I can see now why the moms thought she should have won the Drop Dead Diva role. She looks like the model/main character and could pull that off.

Yeah, this was the weekend they had the Christi-choked-Cathy fight, and they didn’t air it? Whut? When they inflate drama over every other little thing, and they entirely skip an event where police were called? Now we will have to parse every frame of the reunion shows (who’s sitting next to whom? Who won’t meet another’s eyes?) to guess if that fight was real or not.

If they didn’t show the Cathy/Christi fight then maybe it was really not a very big deal? Just a guess, it did seem kinda fishy how all of the moms/girls immediately ran to Twitter after such a “traumatic” event.

I don’t think that was a hickey on Brooke’s neck, it looks like it was bleeding. Maybe she scraped herself doing a chin stand?

I was so happy for all of the girls, Chloe especially made me tear up a bit.

I hope Kelly does leave. Not because I don’t like her or her kids, but because Abby is SO RUDE to them. Saying Paige needs to be examined because she’s stupid? And right in front of her? That’s awful.

All of the girls are beautiful, but Paige is drop-dead classic gorgeous. I can’t remember the last time I was so jealous of an eleven-year-old.

@moonbeam I also heard Kendall say that Chloe didn’t deserve the solo. I can understand she’d be upset not getting the solo, but it was definitely disappointing to hear her speak about Chloe like that. It sounded like something that would come out of her mom’s mouth. Perhaps some of their bad behavior is starting to rub off.

I loved that Cathy had to eat crow. She was soo sure that none of her mom’s were contacting Abby – pan to the guilty look on Justice’s mom, lol! I don’t know why they call Vivi a human prop (sarcasm) .

Abby’s girls totally dominated the competition. I had the “Don’t F*ck With Abby Lee” song stuck in my head the whole time!

I totally cried when Chloe won. So happy for her!

For a show like this that encourages fights and drama, not showing the Christi/Cathy fight is odd. I’m guessing the producers thought it would do more harm to the show than good. I could see them not showing it because it made the ALDC look bad (since they’re the ones we’re supposed to root for). And since Christi is always voted top mom they might have wanted to protect her for fear of turning viewers off. I don’t know, maybe it’s for the best didn’t show it.

Chloe looked so much better this week than in any other dance this season. Much cleaner and actually showing emotion. Maybe Abby making her work for the solo (like she did Maddie the week before) made her want it more or something, because she’s definitely hasn’t looked as good this season. I do hope they cut the “underdog” storyline though, it’s getting old. Chloe is really talented and sweet and doesn’t need any contrived storyline to make us feel bad for her.

I don’t really blame Kendall for being upset. She was led to believe that she had a chance for that solo but she never really did. It was always going to be Chloe who got the solo. I’m glad her mom was trying to comfort her while letting her know that she was being a bad sport instead of making excuses. It’s so rare to see good parenting on this show.

I can’t get the results of this competition from the Energy website. Are they not posting them or was this another set-up competition?

@skittles – yeah, that’s right! I mean it’s one thing to say, “I think I deserved it” but it’s another to say “she didn’t deserve it.”

And I can’t believe how Abby made Melissa determine who got the solo. Loved that she said Nia at first! :D

But I also loved how Holly said (in an overlay during Chloe’s dance, I think) that she thought Chloe really deserved the solo. She’s so much classier than Jill.

Also, I hated Cathy’s group dance. It looked so creepy. All of her stuff looks very “trying too hard” to me, and I don’t like the huuuuge age range between her dancers. Her older girls look like adult women onstage and it seems so out of place to have Justice and Vivi up there with them.

I think this episode was more showing of how the moms actually are with one another in real life. They all are supposed to be besties in real life. They were very respectful of each other and being very classy about the solo thing. It was nice to see. Jill has calmed down a lot from her first time on the show to where I like her now.

Kendall is only 8 or 9. You can’t get mad at her word choice or judge her that harshly. She was just really upset and she never cries so it was a big deal to her. And when you think about it Kendall did have a point. Based on the previous week’s results at comp and Kendall’s place on the pyramid she deserved it over Chloe this week. So I understand where she is coming from. Her mother handled it nicely and I am sure she got over it quick and became Chloe’s supporter. It was very nice how Chloe said she wanted to win it for Nia and Kendall.

I just noticed that the program info on this episode says “Cathy and Christi have a confrontation,” which we never saw in the episode. They did the same thing in anther episode where the info said Brooke would compete against Peyton but the Brooke solo was completely edited out of the episode. Not sure if that means they planned on using it but pulled it later (maybe after showing it to a test audience?) or if they just screwed up again.

@April, Justice did already leave CADC. =) His mom confirmed it on her twitter that they left in August, but she won’t say where he is going now. https://twitter.com/Tanyamccort His mom is great- I love her! But I really hope Justice doesn’t go to ALDC even for plot points. First off, that’s nuts because even if it is just for the show, it’s over two hours away and also… Tanya has 5 kids, all boys! I think it’d be taking “reality” just a little too far.

I am a little confused about the “Paige forgetting her solo” thing. I didn’t notice it on the show, and the full dance (I posted it on the last recap) looked fine to me. She ended on time with the music and everything. Did anyone notice her forget a part?

I laughed when Kendall said “Well I knew who was going to get it” after she didn’t get the solo. Didn’t we all, Kendall, didn’t we all.

I didn’t like at all how Kendall said that about Chloe. I know she’s 9 years old, and yeah, I will cut her some slack, but I did find that rude. I don’t know how she came out 5th last week and Chloe 6th, but I think most everyone would agree that Chloe is at a much higher technical level than Kendall and just because 1 time she (Kendall) happened to place a bit higher than Chloe doesn’t mean she “deserves” to have the solo at Nationals. Chloe is the better dancer. Chloe has been with the team the whole season (not to mention since she was 2 years old she’s been with Abby). Kendall left and just became an “official” member of the competition team last week, so why should Kendall all of a sudden deserve the solo? The whole 3 of them competing for the solo was ridiculous. Abby is not stupid (she can be cruel, but she’s not stupid) and she knows that Chloe is most definitely going to dance better than Kendall or Nia. By the way, Kendall ALWAYS cries!! Not sure who said she didn’t, but just about every episode she’s crying, so she is a very emotional girl. I love the girls, and they have all (aside from this Kendall comment) been incredibly supportive and loving towards eachother, so to hear Kendall speak like that kinda pissed me off. I know she’s 9, but the other girls don’t act like that and if anything they have more of a reason by the way that Maddie is totally put on a pedastal and the way Abby treats Paige, Chloe and Brooke. Nia too, but she seems to treat Nia better than the other three.

Okay, sorry for the rant, but that bugged me. I think it’s her mom’s influence rubbing off on her, so I don’t blame her, but kind of feel like I would prefer the original girls on the team. They all are like sisters and love eachother and it totally comes across that way, and Kendall doesn’t at this point.

I loved that Chloe won, and loved that Melissa actually looked happy for her (unlike last year when her daughter didn’t win the music video- she looked like sour grapes totally), and the way that Maddie seemed genuinely happy for CHloe as well. Also seeing Brooke and Mac win was nice. Always nice to see Candy Apples loss because I can’t stand Cathy. I do like Justice and his mom though, but that’s about it. I don’t even like the older girls anymore because they talk a lot of crap on tweeter, and they are pretty rude..

Okay, that’s enough for now. Sorry again for the rant!!

How old are the candy apples girls? They look 17 or 18 and even with 2 younger dancers that should pull their average above the 12 year old age group.

They claim the girls are like 14 and 15 but look way older than that. Maybe because of all the make up. 14/15 going on 22. I hate how teenage girls always look like that now. When I was 14, you could tell. I still played with Barbies and hardly wore any make up. Stage make up is one thing, but they wear it every time they are on camera.

I like Justice’s mom. She is very pretty and seems nice. It is kinda insulting to Justice to make him dance with Vivi when he is so much better than her and can keep up with the 15 year olds.

Kendall made one comment. Big whoop. Unless we see a pattern I am reserving judgement on that. The other girls may have said similar things and it never been shown. We don’t know.

I think a lot of Kendall’s attitude comes from her mom. Keep in mind, she’s nine (10?), but she’s still young. Her mom talks a lot about how Kendall deserves everything else the other girls get, which she does, but maybe not two weeks after becoming a permanent member of the team.

Mackenzie looked like she was having so much fun doing that dance, and she looked great! (Also, that bee costume was MUCH cuter than that hideous thing that caused the big tiff between Abby and Cathy. (Among other things.)

I never did dance, but I did speech and debate in high school. When we went to tournaments, our coach had all of these ridiculously strict rules about not talking to anyone from any other team. I never really obeyed that rule, as I had friends on other teams, and I didn’t really give a crap. However, Cathy and the Rotten Apples made me reconsider the advantages of keeping my mouth shut. That chanting and taunting was absolutely ridiculous.

The CADC’s group number was just ridiculous. It always looks strange to see Vivi “dancing” with the older kids. (PS That stuff about the umbrellas gave me nightmares!)

However, I think Abby was a little harsh with Cathy at the end. Cathy was complimenting her dance. (Which, by the way, was amazing.)

The awards! Seeing Mackenzie crowned with all of the “blood” on her face was adorable. YAY FOR BROOKE! And I honestly started crying when Maddie got second, because I knew what that meant for Chloe. So proud of her! But her line about hoping Maddie was happy for her, because she’s always happy for Maddie broke my heart!

Wow, long winded today. Sorry. I just have a lot of feelings. (And my job is boring.)

I was not thrilled with Kendall’s comment, but I was also glad to see that she didn’t say it to Chloe’s FACE. She made a point to tell Chloe “Good job,” actually. And quite frankly, I don’t blame her. Because here’s the deal, as much as I looooove Chloe, we knew where this was going. So did Kendall, obviously. She’s only 9, and this show is asking her to say what she was thinking. Of COURSE she’s going to say that. We’ve heard other girls say, “It’s not fair that Miss Abby does X.” Do I think that this was a little bit more? Yup. But I also know that she’s being prompted by producers to “say what she really thinks.”

Okay, all that said…I am SO thrilled that Chloe, Mack, and Brooke won!!!!!!!

Does anyone else think that Cathy has multiple personalities? I swear anytime she’s got all of her make up on she’s completely bonkers, but when she doesn’t have her make up on she’s normal. Very odd. Really disappointed we didn’t see the anticipated fight. I wonder if it was cut due to pending litigation?

I got the feeling that Kendall’s comment wasn’t hers. Her speech seemed stilted, as if she was told to say it. She also echoed what Abby said a couple of weeks ago that she can intimidate Justice and Chloe can’t. Wonder who fed her that line.

ALL of the dances were amazing this week. Did anyone else think that the Abby clap they showed when Chloe finished her dance was from something else? (She seemed really restrained and it looked more like a golf clap for a non-ALDC dancer to me.)

I was really disappointed in the end when Abby was talking about the moment of silence and how wonderful it was for her and she didn’t mention how fantastic it must have been for the dancers. But then again she seems to take credit for anything these kids do…

And if it’s true that this is the last time we see the Candy Apple’s I am looking forward to next season. If it isn’t true, not so much.

They may be saving the “choking incident” for the reunion, or they may have been talking about Christy pushing Cathy out the door during the rehearsal. I don’t give much credit to the Candy Apple tweets of the incident. I would have expected to hear some witnesses putting some comments out.

Is it me or does Melissa seems really very happy for Chloe (minus the music video)? I hate that when Maddie does well Christi always seems to have something negative to say, not necessarily about Maddie, but just things like, Maddie gets better choreography, better music, more time, etc… I really think all of the girls do very well and are sooo amazing, so why can’t everyone be happy for everyone? I think the competing for the solo sucked for the girls, but once they’re on stage, just let it go…

I don’t know if Justice will go to ALDC, but obviously Abby does something right if there girls have gone to her since they were 2 and 3. Some people don’t seem to like her style, but I’m sure that not every class is ran by her, so I think she does more of the competition stuff, maybe?
