Minicap: Dance Moms

By SnoopK8 | | 12:23 pm | 32 Comments

Good morning, Gasmii.

Remember the new and improved Jabby Lee Dance company? Yeah, that’s over.

Shelly does indeed return to New Orleans, supposedly because Gloria and Marcia were talking shit about her and Ally. Jabby finds out and sends “Glo” and Marcia packing, leaving Sophia as the only dancer. But how can Jabby expect to win anything with only one dancer, even when that dancer is the great Sophia Lucia? Oh, what a dilemma!

LUCKILY, our moms are still lurking in the parking lot and decide that maybe, just maybe, they will suck it up and re-up their “contracts” with the Jabster – because their kids love to dance so much, of course. But wait – what about standing in solidarity with Kelly? It’s a good thing these moms were not at Lexington and Concord or we’d be saying “lorry” instead of truck right now.

Whatever, it’s a moo point (™Joey Tribbiani) because Kelly decides that she wants to come back too. Well, she doesn’t want to come back, her girls do. Yay, I can’t wait to listen to her complain endlessly about Jabby abusing her kids. I knew something was missing in my life for the last two weeks.

So now that everyone is back, it’s time to turn to the most important matter at hand: hazing Jackie. It doesn’t help that Jabby won’t shut up about how amazing Sophia is and how she can do 54 turns and is the best dancer who ever set foot on a stage since Terpsichore.

They go to an IN10SITY comp in Ohio (no Crazy Apple sightings – sad horns) and Sophia and Chloe face off in solos. The group dance involves a wayward prop, but turns out okay. Not so much Christi who breaks down after screaming at Jabby in the green room. Or, you know, Tuesday.

I will have full deets up in a coupla days. Until then, you can read last week’s here.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

xoxo,
SnoopK8

these moms remind me of the “mean rich girls’ that I went to middle school with in the 80s.

you guys should really look up aldc_official on tumblr (it’s legit and you know because of the pics posted), because the person running it teaches at aldc and she’s said repeatedly that Chriti is only like that on the show….

@rebecca– I KNOW!! I still have horrible memories of middle school in the 80′s and the “rich mean girls” were all making fun of me. Worse was that we moved from a lower-middle class neighborhood into an middle-upper class neighborhood- mid 8th grade year- and had to go to this school with the MEANEST kids ever! All the girls had the Guess jeans, the keds shoes and whatever else it was when I had the knock-off brands, and they let me know it everyday! These women are acting like that, and I don’t get it. I have been a fan of Christi, but lately I can’t take it. What is her problem?? I think she’s letting the fame go to her head too much.

when the moms were in the parking lot with Kelly, they were wearing the same outfits from the “restroom scene” on last week’s episode. It was clearly the same day. I remembered Holly’s one-shoulder blouse and Shrill’s plaid jacket and jeans. I really liked that jacket…

The realest moment of this entire series happened last night- when Christi buried her head and cried, what are we doing to our kids? Now, if she’d only answer herself honestly and do whats right by her kid, she’d get off TV and quit famewhoring. Poor Chloe. No kid should have to put up with the kind of treatment Jabby shells out, fake or not.

I honestly think Christi was playing her given role last night with sophia’s mother. I don’t think she wanted to do any of those things.

I decided that I’m done watching this show because Abby took things too far for me. My heart broke for Chloe and I feel like Christi’s tears were the only genuine things coming from her that whole episode. I can’t believe what these adults are doing for a tv show. Too much. I really can’t believe all of that happened last night. I felt so awkward watching it, like I can’t believe I’m helping to keep this abuse televised.

I know that Christi wasn’t serious. I was cracking up during that how should we haze Sophia’s mom. Oh Christi. I like her when she’s being funny. I don’t however like her when she constantly whines. We get it, you’re pissed that Abby won’t stop showering Sophia with attention while Chloe is left in the dark. Though it is justifiable to say it once, we don’t need you to say it every 10 minutes. We get it! Now shut up about it and say something sarcastic and funny again.

Kelly can’t speak without her eyes welling up with tears. Christi has gone from snarky to just plain obnoxious. It was nice having Sophia dance and Maddie realizing she isn’t the best dancer out there. Can’t believe how tall Chloe and Paige have gotten!

Nia also had a solo last night even though it wasn’t shown. It’s up on youtube, it’s called Cathedral and it was really pretty and mature, she only got 8th place though so obviously that wasn’t worth showing. You do actually see her in her costume for a brief second, but it’s Nia and she’s not really interesting unless she’s doing Laquifa or prepping for the Lion King.

It seemed like Abby just got even more angry when Chloe got a special award. I think that she wanted Chloe to do poorly to prove a point, and that little bit of validation pushed her over the edge. I can’t really hate her for feeling that way though because of how difficult and hostile Christi had been… I would want my pound of flesh if I was Abby…

bella and kaylee were trying so hard to make it look real, but i could tell they were acting, im pretty sure the whole new team thing was scripted in. I saw a casting call, for moms and daughters wishing to appear on the pittsburgh dance moms a while back on jeff collins twitter i think

@Cheergirl…you are absolutely right. Even if the stuff is “only for the show”, Chloe is a real girl and Abby’s words are real and being televised to many (millions?) people. This will follow her for the rest of her life: being second fiddle, not being the favorite, etc. I have no respect for any of these mothers anymore – they are doing this to their daughters for money and fame. Where will these girls be in 20 years? Will they be better off for having done this show? I doubt it.

And Christi talking about “hazing” someone was disgusting. What kind of a role model is she even if it’s “just for the show”? I was appalled that my daughter watched that part – I can’t imagine how Chloe feels seeing that her mother was talking about doing those things to someone. Sophia’s mother was nice, which Christi clearly couldn’t deal with. Accusing her of writing something online? Really? It didn’t occur to Christi’s dim little brain that maybe someone else wrote it pretending to be this woman?

This episode was just over the top for me. I’m not letting my daughter watch these mothers anymore – I’ll fast forward to the dancing only.

I got that Christi was just joking about the hazing thing, I make dark jokes too. I don’t mean them. People that know me well like Kelly knows Christi gets it.

I think in reality the moms are all very nice. As long as the fame has not gone to their heads over time.

I felt so bad for Chloe. Either she is a very good actor or she was sad. I was glad she got that special award. Methinks the judge was a Dance Moms fan….

So I have a point to make about Sophia. I think Christi is right that Sophia is not as great with the emotion at times as Chloe. Now during the red carpet number Sophia looked great. She looked like she was having fun and was smiling big. She was not doing that so much on her solo. Also she loses her expression completely when she turns. Which it is hard to keep your expression when turning. I get that but she needs to work on it. That was one of the things that was criticized on Madison on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition that whenever she did a hard leap or turn combo she just put her concentration face on and it kinda pulls you out of the number because it no longer looks effortless as it should. That is what you are going for as a dancer. To make it look effortless to the viewer. It makes you look amazing!

I think so far Sophia’s mom seems nice. I was thinking the same thing about how do we know that was not just someone impersonating Sophia’s mom online? Unless it was a verified thing that was weird to bring up. Notice they name dropped Mia too? Watch Mia show up later in the season.

I liked the red carpet number minus the prop mistake. I was LOLing at Mack doing the sassy pursed lips face as she rolled out the trouble making carpet. That kid has spunk.

I do think Chloe’s turns were a mess. They were wobbly. I do notice that when kids go through that awkward puberty age at first the dancing can suffer a bit. I went through it too. My junior girls went through it I coached. Your body has rapid growth spurts and hormones and you get clumsy. So maybe she is experiencing a little of that? She will grow out of it if she keeps working. They are almost 12 now right so puberty is upon them right?

Just so you guys know, that Mia was the one from Dance Moms Miami and Angel confirmed that Sophia’s mom did do that on his twitter. Mia was the one brought in for the last episode that the moms were all like, she’s taking the attention off of my kid, I hate her or something of the like. Since she was on Dance Moms Miami I doubt that she will show up on this one xD

Also I am calling bull on Brooke being pulled out. She probably had something else to do that weekend. Because normally the kids still go on the trip even if they don’t dance like Mack always does. Brooke was not there at all. So I think she had a dance or something again and they just decided to make it like they pulled her instead of being honest about it.

I know that the majority of people on here are not Kelly fans. I have always liked her because I thought she would be a hoot to hang out with. Christi cracks me up too. I’m wondering if Kelly isn’t cracking up under the weight of all the crap that is so clearly scripted on this show? She seems like a very good mom, wanting the best for her girls. I think that maybe all the yelling and screaming from Abby, even if most is scripted, is just too much for Kelly to go along with? My kid has been a competitive gymnast and cheerleader since the age of 2 1/2 and has a very good, very tough gymnastics coach. He yells when warranted and pushes his athletes to the point of exhaustion and gets every ounce of talent and ability that he can out of them. I have on one occasion questioned him and asked him to back off because as a mom I know when too much is too much. I wonder if Kelly knows that scripted or not, what Abby says to her kids makes an impact on them? Like little Chloe last night, she looked so sad and beaten down over the way Abby was with her. And Christi’s crying. Even if it was acting on Abby’s part, it made an impact. I think the whole breakdown on Kelly’s part last season was her struggling between being a good mom and what the show was doing to her kids? I don’t know, just a thought… I think if all of the moms would take a step back and ask themselves if what they are allowing the show to do to their kids is worth it or not, we would see a lot more breakdowns like Kelly’s and Christi’s.

Also, I think that Sophia is a good little dancer. I say “think” because mostly her solos are nothing but turns with a little dancing thrown in. Sure, she’s a great turner (is that a word? Lol) but I’d like to see her do a dance that wasn’t just turning over and over again.

Dani, we must have gone to the same school! I was made fun of every day, and picked on. One particular “mean girl” would take my homework and rip it up! All the way thru high school she made my life miserable! She recently sent me a friend request on FaceBook, it was my pleasure to deny her request.

I was picked on by mean girls too. For not having fancy enough clothes or not being cool enough. The worst was the enlisted the boys to pick on me too. So they would bark at me or call me ugly or pretend to ask me out and then be like “psych!” Ughs…..

Yea, Brooke wasn’t kicked out of the group number. Kelly said on twitter that Kelly herself volunteered to have Brooke taken out of the group (probably so she can act like a real teenage girl and hang out with her friends). Fun fact, Melissa also volunteered Mackenzie to be taken out of it since she was the youngest. Obviously Abby chose Brooke to take out based on the volunteers.

Sophia does dance very well. You need to look up her youtube numbers. There is real dancing and not just turning. She can do it all. Tap, lyrical, turns, leaps, extensions, flexibility, combinations, etc.

Okay question…..so they said the girls can’t be paid because then they would be considered professional dancers and could not longer compete. Okay but how come then Autumn Miller and Sophia do professional paid things and are still able to compete? Is it like a salary issue or making over a certain amount issue or something? I think I read that Autumn Miller did some commercials and some performances that she may have been paid for and I think I also read Sophia did some commercials too.

So how does that work exactly? I am just curious.

I don’t know what Autumn does to make money, but i think as long as your not getting paid for dancing it doesn’t matter. You’re only considered a professional dancer if you’re paid for dance things so since that isn’t happening they are fine.

According to her bio she is in a Just Dance game, she was on Dancing with the Stars, she also was in the Whip My Hair Willow Smith video. So she does a lot of stuff where she dances and if they pay her….and she still dances in competitions I wonder how that works?

I was a child actress and did an Ore Ida tater tots commercial in which I was tap dancing and I got paid, but I still did amateur dance competitions and didn’t go into the \teacher category\ until I was in my 20′s…..so not sure if that is correct. I thought it was only Olympic sports that you couldn’t accept money if you were going to compete?

Sophia’s mom lost my support a week ago when Sophia was using her fake Minnie Mouse voice just so people would say aww she’s so cute, and her mom said \awww isn’t she cute?\ to the other mothers. Gross. That voice only has the chance to be cute on MAYBE a two year old. however, I wanted to steal her solo costume this week…..SPARKLES!!!!!

Lastly, Joey Tribbiani rocks. \It’s moo!\ hahaha, love the reference to my favorite show of all time.

We always cheated on the teacher category thing. At our studio we started having our best dancers join the teaching staff at around 14. They would help out like running the music, stretching out the dancers, filling in when the head teacher was not there, helping with choreo. So I started at 14. Then I continued to do that while competing for years. Some of the girls that competed even ran their own classes. So technically we were teachers but we just did not enter as teachers. We even had the studio owner’s daughter dancing with us far into their 20s. We kept having to add younger dancers to bring the age down to get our average under 18.

I don’t know about the whole professional/payment thing but I do know that on Glee when New Directions received mattresses after appearing in a commercial, they were told they couldn’t compete in a choir event.
That’s right…all my knowledge comes from fictional TV worlds. Hahahaha.
