Didja miss me?
Good morning, Gasmii.
I don’t know if you saw, but Christi tweeted yesterday that last night’s Dance Moms was one of her worst weeks ever, so I had high hopes for the episode. Instead it was just sort of meh. But I guess that’s a good thing after last week’s carnage.
We begin with Jabby yelling that the team’s fourth place finish in Virginia was unacceptable. As a result NO ONE is on top of the pyramid – not even the ghost of Sophia.
This week, they are going to an Onstage America competition in Voorhees, NJ. Nia, Kendall and Chloe will be doing solos and the group number will involve hats. Lots of hats. And if those hats fall on the floor, HEADS WILL ROLL.
In mom news, Melissa’s still has regrets, Christi’s Cranky and Shrill is sneaky. There is some drama over a coshtume, but it sorts itself out with only minor casualties. Broadway Baby makes a (final?) cameo and he looks…ruff.
Crazy Cathy is back with a new bushel of Apple’s – all boys, as promised. Of course Cathy’s presence at the comp makes Jabby NUTS so she’s meaner to the girls than usual (as if that were possible) and to Chloe in particular. Christi flips out and leaves, but really, compared to some of the other things we’ve seen, it was nothing.
Solo results are disappointing, but can the group number pull it off and beat the New and Improved Apple’s? Check back in a couple of days to find out!
If you missed last week’s debacle, you can find it here.
Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful Wednesday!
xoxo,
SnoopK8

Wow. Just. Wow. Cathy is off her rocker (or getting paid to appear so!)
See I did not see it last week. I thought last week was not that bad. But this week I saw it. I saw the look of despair and tiredness and exhaustion on the mother’s and girl’s faces this week. I get it now. Christi just looked like she was about to jump off a bridge. If they renew again I am not going to understand it. There were stuck in contracts, but no one forced them to keep signing them once they expired!
She is normally never rude and she was yelling at other dancers and parents to “Get away from me!” She is on her way to a breakdown. She really kinda lost it last week with the screaming at Abby. There was a bonus scene with Holly talking to the girls and it was more about the contracts and that being why they stood in the parking lot. So I thought it was weird they posted that since they are trying to portray it as something else. Watch that scene and see if you can make sense out of it.
The boys were all very talented but as a group they were not together at all and so yeah, they should not have won. I want my son to be as good as the little one that slide across the stage on his head. He was pimp! Kendall looked very good in solo so good for her. Nia’s was kinda blah and Chloe’s too.
The way Abby slammed that door and just screeched at Chloe for the hat drop. For fuck’s sake! I would have been out of there too. At least wait to see if you won before freaking out on her. Good God! I don’t think Chloe is back next week because I never saw them in the preview.
I don’t think Sophia is coming back ever again either.
I would have happily walked Broadway Baby. I love that kinda dog. I used to have a little poodle. I think hers is a Bischon? They are similar. I hope BB is happy in doggy heaven.
Oh next week they are doing the number with the white snow hats. My friend’s little girl has that same hat. Got it at Justice. I was all like “hey you got the Dance Moms hat!”
yeah next week will be fun at least because Cathy is there. I always liked the moms and Abby and Cathy being snarky at each other and stuff. It was not truly mean spirited and funny. But Abby just seems so much nastier lately and the taking it out on the girls and bashing their self esteem has got to stop. It is one thing to be on them about the dancing. But, personal life bashing. Taking her anger out on them. That has got to stop. She did not used to be that bad. I feel like it is worse. She at least did not seem to mean it when she would say things like “If you lose your hat, heads will roll.” Now I think she might actually mean it.
Can someone please explain something to me? So “Cathy” (i.e., the producers) finds a bunch of talented male dancers from around the country, flies them in for the week, hires a GUEST choreographer to choreograph their routine…in what way do these dancers “represent” Candy Apple’s? Even if they won, it wouldn’t be “Cathy’s studio” winning. She had absolutely nothing to do with their training or choreography. Pretty much all she did was provide them with studio space.
I was again disheartened at how the staged drama is so hard on the kids. Jill’s CoshtumeGate seemed completely staged to me. If everyone knows that Abby won’t let you get a coshtume without consulting her, then I don’t believe for a second Jill would have done that without prodding from the producers. But Kendell’s tears were heartbreaking and I just don’t believe all these girls happen to be talented actresses. How on earth can these parents continue to manipulate their children’s emotions for fifteen minutes of fame?
Finally, why do they doll the moms up like prostitutes for the talking heads segments? Seriously, people, lay off the blush and hairspray.
abby REALLY needs to stop wearing so much shiny eyeshadow. whenever she pulls that look i get kinda scared. it looks like a little girl was playing beauty salon on her face.
wtf was with those boudoir costumes? i really don’t think i’d want my daughter wearing a costume that looks like what i may have possibly worn the night she was conceived.
i’m sick of all these kids from abby’s ultimate dance competition showing up on this show.
anyone else keep hearing “oh, you nothing”? that would have been even funnier.
captcha: “fair play” yeah, right!
yeah they would not actually represent Cathy. At all. At least when Abby does it she still does the choreo or at least one of her regular employees do the choreo.
Sophia does come back next week. Chloe is “suspended”. (Don’t know how long for..)
The comp results for this episode are very misleading. Actually NONE of the solos were in the top ten. I will try to find the results and post them here, but they didn’t win. The thing they showed “win” was something extra that they had to pay for or something… It was like “miss onstage” or something, which is an extra thing, and if they didn’t even make the top 10, then I would think making 3rd place at as miss so-and-so doesn’t really mean anything. Obviously most of the solos didn’t pay the extra money to be a part of that, so, big deal..
I also heard it was for like the title so she only got 3rd on the title win.
Here’s the results from this week’s comp:
http://www.onstageamerica.com/results/?event_id=83
Would someone with dance background explain the whole “title” thing to me? I don’t get it. Isn’t a title kind of pageant-y? I thought it was a dance competition, not a beauty pageant. I have seen on results that sometimes there is a “photogenic” or “vocal” category, and I assumed that related to the whole title thing, but it really confused me, because I thought I was looking at dance competition results, not T&T results! In my mind they do not go hand in hand, so I was just wondering.
This week was just as horrible as ever. Abby is still a disgusting pig of a human being. The moms still need to pull their kids from the studio before they suffer from mental breakdowns. It’s a sad thing to see. I personally really only watch to see the girls dance, as I took dance for years (ballet, non-competitive studio) but they don’t seem to even have any of the joy that they used to, and it is painful to watch.
Ok, this is copied and pasted from the website of the competition regarding the miss onstage award:
Advanced dancers are nominated by the Judges during competition to re-compete for the Title of Mr. and Miss On Stage America. Up to ten nominations in each age category will be made.
Selection criteria will be based on showmanship and overall presentation, as well as technique. Only dancers who score a Hi-Platinum and above are eligible to win title. However, earning a Hi-Platinum does not guarantee a nomination for Titles.
Dancers will perform first minute and half of the routine nominated. The music will be faded off by the emcee at approximately One and Half Minute mark.
Winners will receive a trophy and an On Stage America Title Jacket. Winning the Highest Score does not guarantee a Title Win.
A specific time frame will be allotted for the Title nominations and they will perform in random order picked by the judges.
Different studios do Titles differently. From what I understand some can score you on more than just dancing like you have to submit a headshot type photo for photogenic or sometimes they require you to enter more than one solo. Sometimes you have to do an interview or like give a little speech introduction type thing. Sometimes modeling. Sometimes you also have to pay extra to be entered into the Title competition.
So even if you have the top scoring solo if you did not pay to enter the Title contest, you don’t win it. Our studio never really did them as we did not really do solos much anyway. I would have loved to have done it as I had some pageant experience. Our studio was so big on “NO ONE IS BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE IN OUR GROUP!” They would have probably shit a brick if I did it as independent or something.
I don’t have a problem with them. That is how Chloe and Brooke and Mackenzie became Title Holders by doing these competitions. They sometimes give out crowns and sashes and trophies more like a pageant. They use the title holders to kinda represent the competition. Boys and Girls do it. So it is a big honor.
I have not done competitions in a while though so if I am wrong, someone please correct me.
@April, thanks! That is interesting. Personally (and this is JMO, absolutely not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings), I think the representatives of the competition should be the winners of the actual dance routines, and not someone who won a bought title that doesn’t always include the full competition, and adds extra elements that are not dance. If I am understanding correctly, you can win a title but it doesn’t mean you won the competition. That seems ridiculous, but…to each their own! I just think the whole title thing is really silly. I guess technically all the dancers on the show have become title holders through this way! As I recall, not only Brooke, Chloe and Mackenzie have won them, but also Maddie and I think even Paige? I personally would be more proud of a legitimate win than a title that is sometimes based off of more than dance when it’s a dance competition (if that is the way it works). I find that so strange, it’s almost like taking away from the winner if the winner does not participate in the title competition. Can a title be won off of the dance alone?
The world of dance is very unique.
der I meant to say different competitions do titles differently.
I agree with April and ANTM Fan. This show is different now. Abby is crazy and taking everything out on the girls. I have two daughters and I would NEVER let someone treat them that way. These girls are being harmed by this ridiculous show, and it’s not entertaining any more. I don’t even blame Abby; it’s up to parents to protect their children, and these parents are doing a piss poor job. And like someone pointed out, their dancing isn’t even good anymore; it’s like their spirits have finally been crushed.
Well again, I could be wrong…But think about it. There could be a little girl that is the most awesome dancer, but does not photograph well so would not look good on an advertisement or promotional material or on a website. Maybe she is not that pretty. Maybe she is not well spoken so would not do good if they need her to do some public speaking. I know that is harsh, but if you become a professional dancer that stuff will somewhat matter.
I don’t know if that is maybe what is thought about when picking a title winner. But, that is just my hypothesis about it. If one girl got out danced by two girls, but it still really good and is super pretty and well spoken and takes great photographs, she might be the one they want for the title. Just look how pretty Chloe and the other girls are. Again, I could be wrong, but I see a lot of competitions play up their title winners and let them do farewell dances and travel around sometimes to other competitions and they get in magazines and ads and conventions whatever. So more than just their dance can matter. Personality, looks might matter some too.
I thought the whole Jill costume thing was totally fake too, which makes me wonder: who is in on it? Do Abby and Jill know what will happen and just play their parts, and leave Kendall in the dark? So her tears would be real when she thinks she isn’t going to do her solo? How cruel.
Okay here is a good example of what I was talking about http://www.starbound.net/PublicPages/AmbassadorProgram.aspx
Starbound apparently has title winners become ambassadors that go to other regional comps and wear their crown and sash and hand out awards and give a speech and assist with the comp. This is something that would require more than just good dancing. Public speaking, talking to strangers, meeting people, being super friendly, etc. So a super shy dancer even if they were the best dancer, would still not do a great job at something like this that would require an outgoing person.
I don’t think Christi was yelling at other parents or children when she was saying “Get away from me!”. I think she was yelling at the camera crew to stay away from her. That’s why the last few shots of her almost have a stalker-like appearance, especially when she’s calling a cab and the camera is peering out from behind some kind of t-shirt stall. Chloe even covered her face with her hat in the cab. And if I remember correctly, in one of the early promos from this season (You know, the “On this season of Dance Moms” shorts), Christi actually turns around and pushes someone on the production crew because the camera was jostled terribly in that shot. I remember it because I couldn’t believe she had done it. But they did not show that part on the episode.
That’s why she didn’t engage Abby in the dressing room. I think she was literally telling the show, “I did not sign up for my daughter to be humiliated like this. Being on the show is not worth it. I’m really done. Stay away from me, stay away from my daughter. That’s it.”
It just looked like she finally reached the level where she knew the show was REALLY hurting her daughter and that is not why they signed up to do this. In my eyes, this really was Christi’s way of saying, “I’m the Mom and you are not doing this to my daughter again.” Of course, she brings her back sometime this season, but in that moment, it was no longer about being on TV or the cameras or any of it. Despite what I think of Christi any other time on this show, I have to applaud her for this moment in truly protecting her kid.
The difference between Abby this season and the 2 other seasons is that Abby is no longer just instructing the girls by yelling at them… I think we could all look back on the first season and find it tame compared to now. Costume complaints? Hah! Maddie gets a solo? Big deal!
But now… Abby is now intent on HUMILIATING these girls and their moms. “I want to see what 4th place looks like.” It’s now cruel and vindictive with an actual desire to HURT. I have never had much sympathy for Melissa, but watching Abby decimate her about her divorce and her personal life in FRONT of her children was horrifying. Watching her manipulate Maddie with crocodile tears while a camera crew makes sure to get a shot of Maddie’s trembling hands to emphasize to the audience how upset she was… I am done.
I cannot watch this show any longer. I will not promote or support what has become blatant child abuse. They are real children.
Did the moms conveniently forgot about the competition where they got 10th place? All this episode and the last part of last weeks episode they were all like I can’t remember when we ever got 4th place in the group number, making it sound like they never did that bad at placings. I was yelling at my screen about it. My roommate looked at me like I was crazy. I guess they got selective memories or just tried to block that competition from there memory since they were also beaten by Cathy, which was kind of mentioned by the whole 1/10th of a point thing. I was just super confused by this.
Someone on another board brought up how Christ looks pregnant and even though she denied it when asked, that does not mean she is not. Like maybe she is pregnant again and that is why she has way less tolerance for the bull crap. Why she looks so tired. Why she wants out. They might even use it as a storyline so she can’t say anything about it yet. Just a thought.
is there not another dance studio that the girls could go to??
@Rebecca, not one that will get their sorry faces on television.
Cathys nuts… I remember seeing a clip on a preview a few episodes back where i think christi hits someone ?? maybe thats coming, but it looked like christi wasnt there on next weeks preview, these moms are so dumb pulling their kids out for a week then taking them back. & i cant believe cathy had the nerve to hit abby with her purse like that. what a shame
@ KatieKitty24 on youtube there are a lot of spoilers for dance moms. One from a young girl who states she was at the competition when Christi supposedly stormed out. According to her account of what happened, it was all staged Christi’s goes walking down the hall carrying on and then hops into a cab that drives around the corner and then someone yells cut. She says that everyone was booing and yelling because it was obviously faked for the show. As mentioned before the dances are judged once, the refilmed for the show. I read somewhere else the girls “practice” their faces when they “forget” their dances and sometimes have to “forget” a couple of times to get the right reaction shot for the camera.
i was looking at the results from the competition online & it shows the group number, but it doesnt list kendall getting 3rd anywhere, none of the girls names are in the results for junior solo.. kinda weird ?? is lifetime messing with us
Completely agree with KatieKitty24. It is child abuse. ALM knows how to get to each of those kids, and does it not because she cares, but because she wants to be threatening and mean. She wants them afraid of her, because she has low self-esteem and it makes her feel good to pick on kids and to push their moms to the edge so she can take it out on the kids and blame their mothers, thus trying to turn the children against their mothers. It’s sick. That woman has serious mental issues, and I say it constantly, I have no clue how on earth she is still allowed to work with impressionable young girls.
Poor Chloe looks like she’s about to completely break down. I think ALM treats her the worst by far, which is a shame as she has a lot of talent. I know a lot of people don’t care for Chloe, but she breaks my heart, because she is never good enough for the teacher she obviously wants to please so badly. Sure, she gets solos, but they often have titles/themes that are mean-spirited or humiliating, and they are often not choreographed strongly. I know people don’t like Christi either, but I would rather have my mom standing up to someone abusing me than having her just let someone say horrible things. She deserves to be treated with just as much respect as any of the other girls, and if ALM has a problem with her mom, she should talk to her like an adult instead of screaming at and belittling an 11 year old in front of her teammates, other studios, and everywhere else (she uses every interview she ever does to slam Chloe and put her in a bad light). She’s a KID, and seems like one of the sweetest ones on the show. She’s not the terror of the group, Abby, your nasty pig face is!
It’s also disgusting how she treats Maddie, favoring her and then ripping her down to punish her mother for rebelling. What makes me feel bad for Maddie is that unlike Chloe, Melissa isn’t backing her up, but is buckling to ALM’s demands. Stand up for your daughter, she needs you! Maddie also seems on the verge of a breakdown, she can’t do less than perfect without totally melting down about ALM hating her. She’s obviously terrified of her too, and why wouldn’t she be? She sees this woman ripping her friends to shreds on the daily, of course she wants to stay in favor.
Each time I watch I feel more and more wrong about adding a rating. Maybe I’ll stick to reading recaps
@Jazzy I think it’s just what happens with tv shows. Even scripted 1s. Any character people like. Or like to hate gets exaggerated and blown up on purpose. Into a cartoon version.
It’s like if you went to somebody’s house and said you liked the whipped cream they put on your pie. And the next time you went over there they put your pie in a big punch bowl full of whipped cream.
I’m conflicted about Sophia being on there. Even aside from me thinking she needs to be in a regular dance school all the time.
For the moms that are Delusiona it could be a reality check. And a reminder of how come they got picked to be on the show in the 1st place. They wanted the moms to be over the top and drama. But with relatable kids viewers could identify with.
But for the kids that are just having fun taking once a week. And getting a positive experience from going to the Starbooty and making progress etc. I don’t know if having Sophia in their class would make it more positive. Specially with Jabby hollering unfair comparisons all the time.
Holy cow. I felt sicker and sicker as I watched this episode. I really wonder if Abby has a personality disorder. She blames the poor girls for her own shortcomings as an instructor.
The hats? WTF? That’s just begging for a disaster. I can’t help but feel that Abby was setting them up to fail there. That she wanted someone to drop a hat.
I’m not a dance teacher but I am a boss-type person. Sometimes a bossy-type person even,. Whenever I notice my employees are making mistakes repeatedly, I look at myself and my policies/procedures first. Is there something I could have explained better/made more clear?
I was ready to say that this would be my last episode ever…and then the previews for next week came on. I’m sorry but I can’t resist a water & purse-slinging grudge match. Damn them for sucking me back in!
I just want to say that the whole thing at the end of the boys’ routine where they gangster-walked to the front of the stage, showing off and even showing their tummies, was just stupid and gross. They are little boys, not miniature man-whores.
LOL Cris- Didn’t you know they called the dance number “Magic Mike”?
@Smoochy, I totally agree with everything you said, especially about Chloe. She’s really my favorite. As I read your last sentence (about adding to the ratings) I started thinking about the eventual end of the series. I had this horrible image of ALM berating the girls, saying it’s their fault. I wish the producers could force Abby out and have Gianna(sp?) work with the girls.
Abby goes on other show to talk about how much she dislikes Chloe, a child. She is now using the excuse that Chloe misses classes due to meet & greets when Maddie does the same thing. In fact kendal was at more classes than any of them.
We know Kendal did not get 3rd. But they said she did. No problem showing Chloe & Nia not placing. Abby knew she gave Chloe a routine for a six year old. Abby has gone on shows for 3 seasons talking about disliking Chloe, way before meet & greets. I think she dislikes that everybody does not share her favorite. From the beginning she promised Melissa Maddie would be a star. She has lied about past scores to win fans. Outside professionals choose Chloe over Maddie & Abby hates it.
The studio was in foreclosure. Melissa’s then married boyfriend paid her way out of it. Yet no matter how hard she tries, Maddie is not a star like she promised.
Maddie will get her solo. Just not against people Abby knows is better. She is still favoring Maddie by doing that. Her solo will be full of winning elements that Abby has said she saves for Maddie, with great choreography, pastel costumes & beautiful music. Then she will win & Abby will be happy again.
Christy yells too much but at least she chooses her child first. Melissa worries more about Maddie ruining her makeup then comforting her own child.
Chloe is by far my favorite. And I love that she does not need the favortism. Even though not shown, she has won a lot of first place. In an interview Abby said she does not know why they are not shown
@Turtle something tells me Gianna wouldn’t be much better than the woman who’s been mentoring her. I bet she has some of the same issues. I’d like to see them under a completely different studio. Send them to Stars! I loved Angel and Victor!
Poor Chloe…she seems so sweet, I don’t see how ALM can constantly interview (and say to her face and to the other girls) that she’s this holy terror who is mean, arrogant, difficult to work with, etc. I know that the show is scripted and everything, but I just don’t buy it.
I don’t like Victor and Angel’s choreo though. I hate it. Abby Lee’s stuff can get old but it is still beautiful choreo. Vic and Ang’s is just so jerky and just kinda blah. I was not a huge fan of it or the costumes or the bun on the top of the head.
I agree victor and angels choreography is different to say at the least , but I think Chloe would actually look good doing some of their choreography , I think mia Diaz looks well doing it and even little kimmy , their choreography is not flattering for All dancers but some look good doing it , I can’t believe her creepy doll dance didnt place , anyone know why Kendall is not listed as 3rd in the results from the comp ???!? Was that a lie or what bc on the site it does not say Kendall was even in the top 10 ?? I’m confused
Kendall placed 3rd for the “Miss” title, not the dance. I think Chloe does dark dances well and I think that the doll dance was supposed to be creepy, I have’t seen all of it, but if felt like it should be creepy. I think that it’s obvious that Chloe has digressed. I like Chloe, she seems sweet, all the girls seem sweet, but as far as dancing, she’s falling out of her turns and has other technical errors. I don’t think that Maddie gets better choreo, it’s just different. Chloe has many of the same elements in her dances. I think that they have played the whole Chloe vs. Maddie thing up so little girls will watch more and pick a side and feel connected to the show. I like Maddie, I think that she works hard and that shouldn’t be dismissed, not that the other girls don’t, but I don’t feel that someone being rewarded for working hard should be looked down on. I really think that most of this is fabricated to get a reaction.
@Delores, Abby doesn’t say she hates Chloe. She always says how much she hates Christi and how she’s holding Chloe back by being a bitch and blah blah blah. She never says she hates any of the kids, just the moms. Abby did say in an interview either right after season 1 or early season 2 (one she was in with Cathy as a matter of fact though she wasn’t in this part) that she tried to expel Christi for being so rude and insulting but lifetime wouldn’t let her. But yeah, Abby never says she hates any of the kids, just the moms.
She doesn’t say she hates Chloe but she calls Chloe “cocky” constantly. I never see Chloe as cocky. The mothers are pretty cocky but not the kids. If any of the kids were cocky it was Maddie talking about how she always wins blah blah blah.
I feel like lifetime is trying to incorporate the kids from abbys ultimate dance challenge into dance moms . I just saw Payton posted a picture of her and Asia In abbys dance studio , I can soo see them bringing asia on for drama with her mamma kristi aha it must be the name or something , and Abby would probably so love to put Asia up against Mackenzie or even better a duet !
She might not say she hates Chloe, but she sure acts like it. Sorry, but how one feels about a child’s parent is in NO way a reflection of how they should treat the child. I think all of the girls have digressed, they just don’t seem into it.
I know I never said Maddie didn’t work hard. Of course she does. They all do. However, I don’t think just one of the girls should be rewarded for their hard work while all of the rest get shat on. That is how it seems to go there, and it’s wrong. I honestly just don’t see Maddie as leaps and bounds ahead of Chloe. I think they both have things that they do well, and things that they could work on. I think Chloe is more natural, but also more timid, and Maddie has to push harder, but projects and puts it all out there because she isn’t afraid. I like both girls, they both seem very sweet. I feel more sorry for Chloe, though, because you can clearly see the extreme damage that has been done by an abusive teacher. Her eyes are completely dead, and she shrinks away whenever ALM talks to her. As I mentioned once before, I was a victim of abusive coaching for years, and it left me in a very unwell state that I had to deal with as I got older. It’s sad for me to see that same kind of abuse happening on national television and being allowed to continue even though everyone sees it.
Apparently I’m the only one, but I didn’t mind Victor and Angel’s choreography! I thought it was unique, but I could certainly see why it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.I think all of ALM’s routines have looked the same until more recently. Maybe I am also biased because I like V+A’s personalities so much more too. I would so much rather see kids training under coaches who are tough but loving than under coaches who are sucking the souls out of their athletes. V+A always had encouraging words for their girls, even when they were frustrated.
I liked Vic and Ang’s personalities fine. I just did not like their choreo that much. Their group dances were better but the solos just really did not do much for me. Especially the slow ones.
I hated Victor and Angel’s choreography, but LOVED them as teachers and the encouraging way they dealt with the kids. Abby is cruel. I don’t understand how she even has a business with the way she treats children.
