Well, here we are at week two of Dance Moms Miami and I’m not sure I like it any better than last week.
This week’s “List” features Lucas on top, followed by Kimmy, Sammy, Hannah and Jessi. Jessi is last for ripping the trophy away from Hannah at last week’s competition, and Susan naturally has a fit about it. She pulls Jessi out of rehearsal and yells at her before making her go back and apologize.
This week they head to Starbound in Long Beach, CA. The group dance is another jazz funk number that features Lucas with the girls as his backup dancers. Sammy gets a solo so she can prove herself and Hannah gets one and Debi/Bob won’t shut up about it. Jessi is still in the dog house so she does not get a solo.
Victor and Angel argue over the choreography for Sammy’s solo and put her in the middle by making her choose which one she wants to do. She picks Victor’s, much to Angel’s chagrin, and he refuses to put his name on it. Both of the guys are pretty crabby this week and yell a lot.
Bob thinks that poor Hannah has a chance of beating Sammy, but she just isn’t that good. However, Abby (Sammy’s mom) is so obnoxious that I am rooting for Hannah. Although, to be fair, Bob is also pretty freaking obnoxious too. Have I mentioned that I don’t really like anyone on this show?
Victor and Angel make the kids do some kind of “image” exercise where they tell each other what they think of each other. (Okay, I was at work watching this and someone had the nerve to make me do something job-related, so I missed part of this.)
At the competition, Susan tries to get the guys to allow Jessi to register last-minute and do an improv solo and they are like “denied.” Susan screeches how it’s not fair because Jessi is the best in the group, which of course pisses off the other moms. I feel like ordering lunch would piss off these moms.
Hannah gets fourth place for her solo; Lucas comes in second and Sammy wins overall. The group comes in first. Mayra tries to stir some shit by saying that everyone did great, “even Hannah,” which sets Bob off. She won’t let it go, leading to Brigette’s comment that she would be embarrassed if her kid came in fourth… which of course leads to more fighting.
I don’t know if these people are trying to be unlikeable, but they are doing a pretty good job of it. I never thought I would miss Jabby so much.
So what did you guys think? Is it too soon to write the show off, or could it suddenly turn around? I’ll have the full nightmare up in a couple days, but until then, if you really want to torture yourself, you can read last week’s recap here.
Thanks for reading have a great day.
xoxo,
SnoopK8

I have to say I lived in South Florida for 23 years and this is no act…this is EXACTLY what people in Miami are like. So rude. Miami always wins the #1 rudest city in America award. The people down there wouldn’t spit on you if you were on fire. That whole area is very materialistic. It’s about what you drive, where you live, what private school your kids go to. It is exhausting. Glad I left there.
Anyway…Debi/Bob is slightly delusional. Hannah does try really hard, I will give her that, but technically she isn’t strong. Her arms are not that graceful and her leap was kinda sad. The truth is you are doing your child no favors by getting her hopes up that she will beat Sammy. If moving to this studio improved Hannah, don’t you think it will do the same for Sammy?
The whole Jessi/Susan thing has me annoyed. Wow, your daughter is a bitch…wonder where she gets it from???
Jessi, after a rocky start, did redeem herself.
Bob needs to cool off a bit. This was a good week for Hannah, but these people who don’t know her aren’t going to care. The kids were nice about it.
In the exercise, Jessi and Hannah talked. So, that was beneficial. Susan needs to join Bob in cooling off a bit. In fact, they all need to chill. Lucas’s mom may need a few minutes in a walk in refrigerator.
I expected fur to fly over all of the girls being backup dancers. Maybe they slipped that in when the moms were looking the other way?
Oh, and Susan… PLEASE go to the dance store and buy Jessi some clothes that flatter her. These hideous things she is currently wearing draw attention to their own too small neoness. Buy something that fits her in a shade that flatters a human being’s skin tone and the clothes won’t wear her any more. She is in excellent shape, but getting too small stuff isn’t cute. The neon just calls that much more attention to the problematic clothing.
At the end of the ep I thought Lucas’s mom showed signs of being as psycho as Susan. I liked this ep much better. They only used the crazy camera cut-aways on Sammy’s dance — I wonder why they do that? I like Angel better than Victor so far. I don’t know if Jessi really was being nicer or just pretending — I thought her smiley self was kind of scary, but I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. Mamita is shaping up to be the Crazy Cathy of the show. Do not like her commentary at all.
Oo — I meant to say — what about Sammy’s mother’s BAKED cleavage? I reached out for sunscreen in my mind every time she interviewed.
I think Jessi was nice because she had to be. When Susan pulled her outside and told her she had to also apologize to Hannah, Jessi got an attitude and said “I already did and I’m not…”her mom cut her off before she finished the sentence which I’m sure was “not going to do it again”. Susan made her. I am sure after Susan realized that Angel was not going to take her shit she made Jessi shape up to. It’s kind of fake it if you have to. Be nice to their face and we will talk shit about them at home.
“I feel like ordering lunch would piss off these moms.”
So. True.
YAY! So happy the minicap is up! I need to say something though, and will try to put it in the nicest way possible, but Debi’s hair is all sorts of fucked up. When she is talking all I can focus on is her hair.
Oh, I do believe it is possible Jessi is just doing what she has to. But, what she said to Hannah in the little circle exercise was nice and Hannah liked it.
At this point, as long as Jessi behaves (fake or real), Bob can’t say much more about the great trophy snatch of 2012. Jessi was called out and reprimanded for her action. And her mother was as well.
Jessi now knows rude behavior to the other kids will cause her a huge headache. But, sometimes, if a person changes their behavior it eventually changes their attitude as well.
I believe you are correct about Lucas’s mom.
I wonder why they did all of that to Sammy’s dance? I think most people who watch this show would like to see her dance. As in without wacky camerawork.
All right, this isn’t a spoiler since I am randomly speculating … I wouldn’t be surprised if Jessi did her solo. Not an improv, but a planned for the competition solo with the punishment being it wouldn’t be shown on TV nor would the result be mentioned.
Given how nervous Susan was about only a few days to rehearse, I don’t really see her sending Jessi out to improv. But, if she did get that desperate, I don’t see her backing down so quickly.
This show is still new and we’re still getting to know everybody, but I’m actually already hooked. While these moms drive me crazy, and I’m not that fond of the children (except Kimmy…love her!), Victor and Angel are such a breath of fresh air compared to Jabby.
The way they treat the kids and handle the moms is soo much better. They are very strict and demanding of their dancers, but they are also encouraging and comforting when they need to be. At least they don’t berate the children and take their anger out on them when their moms go crazy.
These moms are more nuts than the Pittsburgh moms, yet they seem to respect Victor and Angel more than the other moms respected Jabby….that says a lot.
Anyone else notice who just HAPPENED to be carrying the group trophy after the results? That’s right, Jessi. With a big ole grin on her face.
@gun kata: it doesn’t look like Jessi did her solo, or if she DID do it, it didn’t place at all. I checked out Starbound’s results page for this comp and the results they showed on the show were all the results that were there (imagine that!)
I’m with you, SnoopK8; so far I’m not liking anyone either. At least we have each other
Looking forward to the full recap!
SWAK, PottyMouth
How many times an episode is Susan going tell Jessi to “look at me”? Lucas was great with all of his facial expressions during the group dance. Instead of a dance off, I would love to see a face off between Lucas and Maddie
I could have sworn Hannah was carrying the trophy and Jessi was looking all, “Look at me — I’m letting Hannah carry the trophy!”
Did you notice how many times she repeated, “I did say something, Victor.” too? I think she just repeats things a lot.
That’s true, gun kata.
@Maryedith I agree.
I just can’t get a feel for these people, both kids and moms. I think the moms are trying too hard for drama and/or to be like the Pittsburgh moms. I don’t like any of these moms really, so there isn’t anyone I’m rooting for. I used to just wait for Christi’s zingers, but when these moms talk I feel like snoozing. The kids don’t strike me either way, except Jessi, I don’t care for her too much. They just don’t have the pizzazz of Jabby and her motley crew. Even through the fights and drama, I kinda find the show boring. I’ll watch a couple more times to see if I can get hooked, but it just has no appeal to me so far.
Totally agree I live in Miami and yeah people are rude here. I actually live 2 minutes away from stars dance studio
agree about Hannah. Talent shines through weight, and this girl would still be a weak dancer if she lost 20 pounds. She has no arch in her feet, no extension, and her knees don’t straighten all the way. These things have nothing to do with weight, she just lacks natural dancing ability.
There is no one to really root for on this show, they all seem entirely fake and there is no human-ness, even flawed, that seeps through like with the Pitt moms. It’s not that much fun to watch when you can’t even pick a side because they are all equally unlikeable robots.
I do wish they would quit with the mini S&M costumes for poor Lucas, I can’t believe his mom- not to mention his dad- is okay with this!
Also, note to Lifetime. Enough with the multi-camera action during the dances, it’s distracting and annoying. The dances should be shot with a single angle, so we can actually see the whole dance the way the judges see it…seriously!
Cray-cray Jessi’s mom – Yes, your daughter is skinny compared to you, but, really, she is not and needs some support up top. Breast buds are embarassing, not sexy. Double up on the sports bra until those things grow in, it is very unflattering!
Neoness…is that like Watermeloness? The Birdcage is all I can think of now!
I agree about Hannah, but what I don’t understand is WHY did they pick her? There has got to be much more talented kids her age at that studio, or nearby studio if not there, that would probably love to be on that show.. I’m just wondering what their criteria is.. Is it just because they think that mom will go head to head with Sammy’s mom? I would think they would want to put together a competition team that would work, and win, right? Also, it really bothers me what that mom is doing to her daughter. I have a 12 year old daughter and can not imagine saying to her that she would have a chance beating someone much more talented than her.. I feel bad for Hannah because kids believe in their parents, and her mom telling her she is as talented, or her drive alone is going to get her ahead of Sammy is just not realistic and is ultimately going to hurt her daughter.. Out of the kids, I actually like Hannah- she seems like a sweet kid, but there’s no way she’s going to outshine (based on dance talent) Sammy.. Just my opinion.
I had to go back and look and we’re both sorta right. Hannah had the plaque they got on stage and Jessi had her arm around Hannah. Then we cut to them running in the parking lot or wherever and Jessi has a trophy AND the the plague in her award grubbing hands. She doesn’t hang on to it forever, and then Angel awards her the trophy to hold because she’s been such a team player.
PottyMouth, thanks for checking.
I guess I have just seen too many mysterious trophies among the ALDC girls. Haha
Many of the girls are overweight and look bad on stage. I don’t like the S&M tones in the group dances. Children should not be exposed to chains etc. Sorry to say Abby Miller’s dancers are much better and look like dancers, none are fat. I danced all my life and we had to be slim, not skinny but not fat.
