Hey Gasmii,
Ugh. If it weren’t for Kimmy and Ani I would have blown my brains out last night. Okay, I may be exaggerating. But they are the only bright spots in this black hole of bitterness and bitchery.
This week’s List is almost identical to last week’s. Lucas is on top, followed by Kimmy and Sammy. The only difference is that Jessi has worked her way up to fourth place for good behavior and Hapless Hannah is back on the bottom despite finishing in the top five at last week’s competition. Naturally Susan and Bob are unhappy.
This week they are going back to Cali for another Starbound competition. Instead of 100 competitors like last week, there will be 500, so they’d better bring it, blah blah blah.
Lucas, Kimmy and Sammy get solos, but Hannah and Jessi do not. Guess who is super thrilled about that? For the group dance, VictAng have decided on a number that will exploit address each kid’s particular insecurity so he or she can “dance through it” and become happy and well-adjusted adults like their moms. (I may have made up that last part.)
There are two brief moments of levity. Once when Sammy tries to teach the moms some dance moves and once when the kids sit in the lounge and imitate their mothers, in front of the mothers.
The mean girl moms, sans Ani, torment Abby because her kid has had three solos in three weeks and is cocky. I would feel bad for Abby, but a) she pulls the jealous card again and b) she is already dead to me because of last week’s bitchitude.
Okay hold up – they are saying that this is Sammy’s third solo, but they never mentioned that she had one in week one, did they? Am I missing something? Maybe I misheard them? Whatever, I’ll get to the bottom of it for the full recap.
The next day Brigette decides to apologize to Abby and tell her that it was Bob who manipulated them all into doing her dirty work (of being mean to Abby?) because Bob has had it in for Abby and Sammy since day one. Then Brigette further stirs the pot by tell Abby that Bob tried to talk Victor into giving Sammy crappy choreography so she would lose. Because VictAng are in business to lose, after all. That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Especially since Sammy WON last week.
Awards-wise, Kimmy comes in second, despite not being perfect and neither Lucas nor Sammy places. The group only comes in fifth and VictAng are MAADDDD, since you can’t go to “Nationals” by coming in fifth.
Soooooo, what did y’all think? Are you warming up to the show at all? It’s getting a little more entertaining, but everyone remains supremely unlikeable (except Kimmy and Ani). I’ll have the full recap up in a coupla days, provided I don’t get so depressed from watching that I decide to off myself.
Thanks for reading and commenting – I love all your insights – and have a great day!
xoxo,

I actually found this episode somewhat refreshing … especially compared to the past few episodes. I really enjoy the interactions that the dancers and instructors have with each other. I really like how friendly and comforting Angel and Victor are with their students. I would like this show much better without the moms … besides Ani she is alright. Still can’t get past the ugly hair cut Debi has. When she talks all I can focus on is how awful it looks. I am so horrible I know! Thanks SnoopK8 for the minicap and I look forward to the recap.
I liked this episode besides Bob with asking Victor to sabotage Sammy even though he didn’t. that was a bit much. Why would anybody do that to a kid no matter how much you don’t like them. I loved when the kids pretended to be there moms and Kimmy was like “Do you want some gum?” (or something like that). I cracked up especially when Jessi yelled “Why aren’t you practicing?” and then there moms came in and Susan said almost the same thing as her daughter about the practicing.
I paused the show for a moment of shocked silence when Ani said, “I thought Kimmi would be lower on the List.” A Dance Moms first!
I thought Angel and Victor handled Abby’s asking them about the sabotage thing pretty shabbily. I have a theory about that. I think Sammy was foisted on the studio by the producers and Victor may have bitched a little about it before she came to the studio. And at that time Debi may have said something about giving her bad choreography to get rid of her. That would explain why he looked kind of guilty when Abby confronted them about it. And also explain why all the other moms knew about it. Unless Victor went around telling everyone which would mean he is even less professional than he appears to be.
Bridget may be the biggest bitch I’ve ever seen on tv. She really gets to me. Keeping my fingers crossed that the rest of you don’t love her!
I just love Kimmi and Ani … she is the sweetest thing , and her little lisp is just so cuuuuuttttteeeeee!!! , I really don’t think I could watch the show without her , Sammy and Lucas are too full of themselves…. Jessi is growing on me with her better behaviour , and I like hannah .. but their moms are just screwing it all up for them , look forward to the full recap
I’ll probably keep watching since it’s not like it conflicts with anything else I watch, but I still have a very hard caring about any of these people. How is it even possible for this many bitchy people to be so boring?!
Well, there is NO WAY I’m gonna “love her.” I don’t like to say “hate,” but I CAN’T STAND HER!! Actually, I can’t stand any of them, except for Kimmy’s mom.
Yeah, I’m thinking there was something more to it, but still not sure what.. Your theory may be right, or something along those lines. It doesn’t make sense that Debi just went to them and asked them to sabotage her- just doesn’t add up..
I really miss dance moms (Pittsburgh)! I do like Angel and Victor better than Abby, but not really liking these kids (except Kimmy and Hannah), and really can’t stand these moms. They’re just horrid!! (Except Kimmy’s mom.. LOL)
I kind of imagined the other mom just told her about the request for sabotage to plant a seed of doubt in her mind/mess up her positive relationship with Victor and Angel. Possibly even to further alienate her from the rest of the group when she brought it public and/or became paranoid about them.
Could be I’m just cynical, but that’s how I interpreted the situation.
Yay, Kimmie!
I don’t know why Sammy’s mom even listened to some of that. Has she not noticed how some of these women are?
That being said, Sammy did say a couple of things that sounded a little cocky. She seems to be a nice girl and really is a good dancer so I’ll give her the courtesy of considering that maybe she did not mean for it to sound that way.
Sammy’s first episode solo was barely mentioned and I don’t know if they even talked about it after she was told she’d get one. I remember people commenting that they wondered how she did.
Bob needs to accept that, as hard as Hannah works, Sammy is a better dancer. Maybe two years ago Hannah wouldn’t have been able to even dance in a group with her, who knows. But, both girls seemed to have moved past all of that. So, Bob living in the past needs to stop. Hannah really wants to get along with her team and that includes Sammy.
Kimmy could not be cuter. Love her.
I don’t dislike Abby like you do. I mean her daughter is incredibly good so she kinda is on the mark about them being jealous of her and that her daughter is the best. It is hard to stay totally humble when you are the best, you know what I mean? I don’t think she has blatantly been awful to anyone yet. It sounds like she wants to get along with people and they just were all over her for nothing besides Sammy being good.
Like any choreographer would sabotage a dancer. Their name still goes on it and they want to win. Wait what am I talking about….Abby lee totally would sabotage Chloe for Maddie, but Victor and Angel are not like that. They don’t play favorites and I like that about them. I love Victor and want him to be my dance teacher!!!
I liked the group number. It was powerful. Wish they would have shown more of it. Will have to see if I can find it on youtube.
I liked that Angel zeroed in on Abby’s lack of trust of him and Victor. But I don’t know why both of them didn’t just cut the conversation off instead of indulging Abby’s potential paranoia the way Victor did by being so coy about whether Debi had asked him to do it or not.
I mean you can’t get mad at her lack of trust when it seems there WAS some truth to it!!!
I don’t think she was accusing them of sabotaging Sammy but more just asking if that actually happened where Bob asked them to sabotage her. More about setting the record straight.
I think Brigette is a shit stirrer.
I just can’t get into this show. I don’t like ANYBODY. Kimmie is cute and all that, and Ani, her mom, is quiet, but these people just don’t have the pizzazz of the Pittsburgh people. I find them all blah. I think the moms are just trying to be dramatic for TV. Victor and Angel are OK, and they certainly have a waaaayyy better grip on how to teach the kids than Abby Lee. The producers or whoever have tried (I think) to have a matching set to the Pittsburghers, such as Brigette and Lucas = Christi and Chloe, Abby and Sammy = Melissa and Maddie, Debi and Hannah = Holly and Nia, etc. Like AshleyS, I’ll keep watching because I have nothing better to do, but I’m really looking forward to this show going off the air and the original Dance Moms returning.
April…
I think you’re right. Abby and Sammi were sabotaged before they even walked through the door. When they were having that disagreement and they all walked out and left Abby sitting there the first thing said to the others when they left was “See…didn’t I tell you?” As far as the choreography thing, I absolutely believe there is some truth to it. Victor couldn’t think of a way explain it. His hesitation and the look on his face said it all.
Us Dance moms discussed this at the studio yesterday and all agreed that as sweet as Hannah is, she is not technically where the others are. She is just….sloppy (I hate saying that but it’s true) she isn’t that graceful. You either are or you’re not. And the truth is as blunt as it is…if this was not on TV and she didn’t fit some “type” they needed to cast for drama, Hannah would never be in that group. She is a sweet girl, but her mother is not doing her any favors by comparing her to someone she will never be. Like I tell my daughter, worry about you and forget everyone else. Too bad Bob can’t do that too.
And from one Kimmi to another… You are too cute!!!
yes. I think she is the Nia of the group. The one that is good, but not at the same level of the other kids. So they stick out like a sore thumb. The thing is we did have some of those on our competition teams too. They didn’t like to cut people and some were just not as good. They still did the choreography and we still won, but yeah they were just not as good.
I loved how the announcer asked Kimmi how long she had been working on her solo and she was like “Three days”. He was blown away and surprised! Because that is NOT the norm!!! Usually they work all summer doing choreography and learning it and then a month or two just cleaning the number up, then they compete. So yeah three days is going to surprise someone!
If you think your dance was sabotaged then you should leave the studio. But asking about whether another mom ASKED the director to sabotage your child is just gossip, and Angel and Victor should have shut that down.
What bothers me about Hannah is that what she lacks is muscular control. She has to thrust her whole body around to get her arms and legs in the right places and the whole thing is just ungraceful. Anyone can get muscles if they work out enough, it’s not a matter of what you look like or even how heavy you are. So is she not working as hard as the other girls?
Are you saying you think Victor really did give Sammi bad choreography?
No I don’t think for one second Victor would ever do that. It’s his reputation on the line. But I do believe that Bob said something to them. Maybe not about sabotaging the choreography but maybe saying that Sammi wouldn’t be able to handle Victor’s advanced choreography and they should take it easy on her. Probably to seem “helpful”. Either that or that she happened to mention that since Sammi just got there she shouldn’t get a piece choreographed by them. Didn’t Bob argue with Ang/Vic in the first episode that when Sammi was above Hannah on the list that she shouldn’t be since she hadn’t paid her dues at Stars? That’s my thought, Bob tried to argue that fact. Ab/Sam just walked in the door….no solo for her. And if she gets one, not as good as everyone elses. I bet its that first solo we never hear about.
What I think Victor was doing was trying to find the words to defuse the situation. He was kind of blindsided by the question and wasn’t quick enough to say anything to shut it down. And Angel (who thinks quick on his feet) didn’t help him at all.
I really feel for Hannah. That girl is going to have to try 10x harder to get what comes to all the rest of the kids naturally. And even then she may never get there. Bob is making her passion for dance a competition and in the long run Hannah is the only one who suffers. And that breaks my heart.
I know! My daughter and I are soooo sick of her solo music right now lol. Thank goodness only one more competition in two weeks.
From what I got I think it was one of those things where someone says something in jest like “You should totally give her crap choreography since she is the new kid” or something like that to Victor and Angel but she honestly probably meant it too. Like testing the waters. And from what I got the other mothers were present while this was being said and might have even laughed at it or played along either joking or joking/serious.
haha my music would play in my head in my sleep and pretty much in my waking hours too.
See I might make a great “dance mom” because it may be just gossip but if someone said that about me and my kid, I damn well want to know and I would damn well want to talk to everyone involved about it till it gets straightened out or at least till everyone knows my opinion on it. You don’t say or do that kind of crap about me and my kid without some kind of repercussions. Oh nos I would make a good “dance mom”.
I am thinking the same thing. That they are trying to reproduce the magic of the original dance moms. Nia/Hannah is a good example of that though I think that Nia is the better dancer. I am sure that the producers are now realizing that they should have went in a completely different direction with the Miami group because it is just not working. I never doubted a season 2 or 3 with the original show. Maybe like some of you said, nothing else is on at that time to compete so maybe there will be a season 2. Like the rest of you I will keep watching, just filling time until Dance Moms comes back in June. I can’t wait to see if they address the drama that went down in the final. Back to Miami… I think Kimmi Paul said it best about Victor being blindsided by the question from Abby. I think we can all agree that Bob said something… Everyone seemed to know to much about it for something not to been said. I read a nice interview yesterday with Lucas’ father. He said that Lucas has been with Stars before the show and that he had taken a year or two off to play soccer and then came back to dance. I really wish they would put a shirt on him when he dances.
I don’t think even the original Dance Moms has been able to reproduce the magic of its first season, though. I think Miami is at least less fake than the second season of DM’s. I don’t feel I have to go to Youtube to see if a dance competition actually took place. And there’s no one as producer-planted as Jill or CrazyApples.
I know what you mean, April! I would be right there with you! I’m just saying that Victor and Angel had every right in that situation just to shut down the conversation at “We didn’t sabotage anything.” I am perfectly aware, however, that such professionalism should not be expected of reality show citizens.
Maybe I’ll like this more when the kids get better at reading their lines.
Lucas’s mom needs to get him into a regular class.
I think they’re worrying too much about him doing flexibility tricks for StarBooty instead of building his strength.
And he’s at that age where he’s liable to bust out growing any minute.
Does anybody else watch The Secret Lives of Dancers?
It’s a NZ show that’s more realistic about people that are talented and end up getting a job with a company.
It’s not like the regular trashy reality shows (that are my favorites!) But it’s good in a different way.
