Good morning, Gasmii. Well, finally after seven painful episodes we get some action. And doesn’t it figure that it’s the season finale.
The kids head to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a Hollywood Dance competition. I guess they really are hard up for places to shoot. Lucas and Kimmy are doing a duet, Sammy and Hannah get solos and Jessi, having reverted back to the bottom of The List, gets nothing. The group number is about celebrities. And speaking of celebrities, here comes Stars Wunderkind Mia and her mom Malibu Barbie, I mean Leo. The kids are excited to see Mia. The moms – not so much.
Mama Mia, i.e. Leo, doesn’t seem too obnoxious at first, but the moms are super worried that VictAng are going to give all their attention to Mia. Especially when VictAng give Mia a solo, which raises the possibility that either Kimmy or Hannah will lose her solo. That’s totally obnox, if you ask me. Presumably they knew Mia was coming, so why not accommodate that? Even Ani is upset, to the point where she has to leave and have a private cry in the lobby.
Mia ends up in the duet with Kimmy and Lucas (making it a trio) and she is featured in the group number – none of which endears her to the moms – although they are surprisingly quiet about it. Bob explains Sologate to Hannah, and Hannah volunteers to give her solo up if necessary, because somehow, despite being around those harridans, she is a sweet kid.
At the end of the day, all three kids get to do their solos. Hannah comes in sixth and Mia is first in the junior division. Sammy comes in second, but it’s good because it’s her first time dancing in the teen category. The trio gets first place, while the group comes in third. Leo is unhappy because Mia has never come in less than first place.
Oh, and the producers try to make us feel bad for Bitchette and her personal problems, but it’s too little too late. She and Leo exchange words after the competition and Leo gets all up in Bitchette’s grill, causing Bitchette to grab Leo’s arm. The way VictAng react you would think Bitchette had come after her with a knife. We end the season with Bitchette being kicked out and Lucas sobbing. But is she kicked out for good or will she be back? Cliffhanger!
So what did you guys think? I think that if Mia joins permanently, it might bring some much-needed fire to this boring group. But I’m really just happy that we get our Pittsburgh girls back in a week.
I’ll have the full ‘cap up in a few days. Until then, rest up, watch the Dance Moms marathon or catch up on old recaps here (Pittsburgh) and here (Miami).
Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
xoxo,

I was really disturbed by how the final scenes went down. The only reason that Bitchette grabbed Leo is that Leo had her hand right in her face, and all Bitchette did was grab her arm to get it out of her face. Leo, Victor, and Angel (and Ani & Abby, actually) were acting like Bitchette slapped Leo.
Victor and Angel were completely in the wrong in their behavior this week – I agree with ALL the moms on that! Favoritism is one thing (I mean, really, there’s ALWAYS a favorite kid), but practically crowning Mia & Leo queens of the studio and allowing them to bump another child, praising ONLY one child while dissing ALL the other kids is another. That is NOT okay. Even Jabby never went quite that far.
I think either Mia will stay, or the show will get the axe. Ratings are terrible, she may be their only hope.
To be honest I don’t see this show getting renewed for a second season, the ratings are terrible. But if it does, I think Mia will stay for a little while and her mother will get angry and pull her out or something ridiculous like Jill and Cathy did. The newbies have different contracts than the veterans.
They way Victor and Angel praised and treated Mia was 10X worse than Abby with Maddie.
I only caught the very, very end of this episode, and I was so disturbed by it I had to post under the last recap. I saw 5, maybe 10 minutes at the end. This show is just terrible. I don’t really like these people, but was so upset seeing Lucas and Jessie crying, how can they do that to kids? And that’s all they are, just kids. Victor’s arrogance is on my last nerve because, really, he ain’t all that, and this show has gone to his head. VictAng started out nice, but they are showing their true colors. I don’t care if it’s the producers or not, there are young, impressionable kids involved and you don’t treat them like that. Angel’s defense of Leo was way over the top, I agree, he acted like Bitchette had taken a knife out and threated death. I sincerely hope this show is not renewed. The season finale cliffhanger left my stomach churning. Even vodka won’t help me get over this episode!
This episode pissed me off! As VictAng have twitted, we don’t know Leo or her story. WHATEVER! While Leo was paying Mia’s solo and Abby + Debi/Bob came in, she would not let it go.
They both said they weren’t blaming Mia or her. But, Mayra had just waltzed into the mom holding pen and said one of the other solos would be bumped. So, they just wanted to get the details on whose solo from Angel. For one thing, that mom could expect her solo entrance fee to be returned. But, more importantly, it might change the girl’s schedule, she would need to told the disappointing news, and so forth. Leo kept on and on just like a passive aggressive version of Bitchette on her worst day.
Another thing is this: is Leo a grown up or not? So, no one is talking just now. So, they seem upset. None of them have pulled out their shanks and gone after an eyeball. So, watch your kid dance and chill. Maybe they just want to see how the numbers are shaping up with another person? I think they respected Mia’s talent. But, VictAng could have handled her entrance into the group more professionally. Even if this is just reality show typicalness… throw them a lifeline. Their kids all burst out crying if they are told they have to leave Stars. If someone has to deal with a heartbroken kid, they need time to prepare (order a pony?).
Meanwhile, Mia outright says everyone is nice and supported her. So, SHE is not upset. Chill, Leo. It is human nature for people to feel disappointed. As long as no one is taking it out on Mia, it’s no one’s business other than the emotion having person’s.
Then, why did they take Hannah and beat her with the ugly stick before sending her out to do her solo? Her costume was HIDEOUS. Her hair was in an ugly style. Her choreography was the ugliest and most ungainly yet. That was mean, Victor! She had one slomo move that I can only imagine was meant to evoke a unweildly individual slipping on ice.
So, o.k. that’s Stars’ style. But, wait. Here’s Mia. Where’s ugly foot? Where sumo pose? Where’s all this ungainly stuff that hardly anyone can make look nice? Oh, wait. Mia is one of the people who can make it look o.k. So, how is it she’s the only one who gets something different? I am not begrudging Mia. But, it seems if she can get more girly choreography, maybe they could toss a little of that Hannah’s way.
Then, the duet and the trio! Well, watching the plot (for lack of a better word), it’s no wonder Ani was crying and fretting about Kimmie.
As for Susan, one time she had a reasonable concern. Oh, Jessi. So sad to see you cry.
And Lucas… omg… this competition turned into a journey from hell.
And finally, Leo… no one likes a sore winner. What does she want? Everyone else to stop dancing? But, I don’t think MIA wants that.
After the first 10 mins I should have shut this off… VicAng are so into Leo and Mia that it’s awful. Victor about Leo, “She is fierce, and a blond bombsheell…” blah, blah, blah… She looked fake, tanned, and like she was trying to be young and wasn’t pulling it off… It’s hard to judge Mia, she said the right things, but they all just sounded fake. IMO. At least Maddie comes off a sincere.
I can’t blame Bitchette for being pissed, I’m not sure I would have handled the situation any better. The moms told Leo it wasn’t her fault countless times, yet she kept running her mouth and then continued to get in someones face…
I also don’t blame Susan for calling VicAng out. When all the other girls are being treated badly, someone needs to step up….
I agree GunKata…they give the unattractive poses to Hannah…all that squatting etc…it’s hard to make that look feminine and sweet.
Lucas crying broke my heart. I love that kid. I love all the kids….their mothers not so much.
I can’t wait to see what new drama comes up with Abby Lee…I do remember a scene with one of the mom’s screaming at her about being fat….that’s a bit below the belt….but that’s what is expected on these shows.
I think victor is letting the cameras go to his head. I used to like both him an angel but now not so much. I actually miss Abby she doesn’t annoy me as much as victor. I felt bad for Bridgette this time. An angel had no right getting all over her like that Leo was in her face 1st. I just didn’t like this episode at all.
I have Brigette’s number (not literally), but Leo doesn’t. Brigette doesn’t forget. Trust.
I hope the people complaining about Maddie see this. Abby Lee has been teaching Maddie most of her life. She is the kind of student that works so hard and gets excellent results. And always has. A rare combination. Also, I think AL really does especially love Maddie. But, I can’t imagine her snatching someone else’s solo for absolutely no reason and giving it to Maddie. Which is what VictAng did. Why didn’t they wait until Mia got there before they handed out assignments? Oh, less drama?
I don’t know… it all bothered me. As for Mia, she seems nice enough. Her mother needs to stop snitting about being embarrassed to get less than first. Well, for one thing: Leo isn’t dancing. Mia is. And when she is getting new(ish) routines every week, she may not always get first. So, maybe try not to make her feel guilty in advance.
I don’t like some of the saucy stuff they have Mia doing. Some of the facial expressions are strange. I think she’s just an innocent girl who is good at mimicry, but she needs to be given classier things to mimic. (I am not trying to say she is copying anyone, just mimicking things she sees here and there.)
Mia remains the only one who looks o.k. in the Stars’ buns. However, hers wasn’t quite unicorn style and she has light hair.
gun kata –
No, Mia gets the stripper choreography, like Sammy got when she first got there….
I agree SaraKate, Bitchette was only reacting to Leo’s hand in her face. I would have reacted the same way.
I think that was it, Lucas crying and saying “Mommy.” The “mommy” just tugged at my heart, such a little kid. I can’t stand to see kids hurt, no matter what, they are all just babies! I disliked the show before, but this was to me just awful. For the first time really, I couldn’t stand VictAng at all. Now I’m thinking they are worse than Jabby, and she’s terrible. By the way, Sunshine, it was Kelly screaming at Jabby at how fat she is and I also thought that was pretty mean.
Sunshine, I know! I think Hannah honestly likes Victor’s style. But, he has less fug versions of his style. I know she can’t do everything some of the “elite dancers” do, but I know she can do more than sumo, ugly foot, and ungainly simulated loss of balance (a new move).
Sara Kate, good point! It seems so outside their style, too. Maybe someone else who works there choreographs certain routines? I have seen Mia doing Starsy stuff and she still doesn’t have to spend so much time in unflattering poses. Which is fine! The fewer young girls traumatized by ugly foot sumo, the better. But still, stripper dance + young girl = not cute.
Leo is a class A Bitch. All you have to do is look at her internet promotion of Mia, like she is the end all to beat all dancers. The kid is 10 years old and dancing like a ohforgetitIcan’tputintowords woman, way too raunchy for me.
I really wish Bridgette would have popped her, that would have made it worthwhile to watch. Angle grabbing her was nuts, that would be assault for everyone else. I am so glad that this trainwreck is over, and if they do get renewed, I will be skipping on over to watch something else, anything else!
The rest of the cast sort of grew on me, even though not nearly as much as the original program. I enjoyed Ani and the dancers, but the rest, not so much!
Too yucky
Last week Leo twitted that she didn’t “press charges” because she “loves Lucas.” Maybe Brigette did something worse than we were shown. But since Leo wasn’t getting stitched up in the corner when Susan started shouting, I think Brigette pulled her punch.
They all should have walked out when Susan got thrown out. Unless there was a very major type of thing that we weren’t shown, VictAng weren’t being professional. Victor appeared to be tantruming.
The whole thing felt very set up to me. I know that it IS set up, bit this episode was worse than others. The whole stuff at the end was crazy. Bitchette was just getting Malibu barbie’s hand out of her face. I don’t usually defend her, but she didn’t do anything I wouldn’t have done. I also found it hard to believe that Mia has never been in a group number that placed less than first. She’s a great dancer based on what I’ve seen on YouTube, but one dancer cannot carry a whole team. Did anyone else laught just a little when victor yelled “get out of my studio!”? Um, victor, you weren’t IN a studio.
For one thing, the competition schedule had Mia’s solo on it. I’m assuming the schedule is done before the competition, and my guess is the whole “we might pull a solo” thing was just for dramatic effect.
I finally realized why I like DM so much more than DMM. I thought it was the fact that all of Abby’s kids seem pretty much oblivious (somehow) to the mama drama, or the way they seem to be a true team, not a group of kids with cray-cray mothers that got slapped together for a TV show. NO – it’s that, on DM, it’s the parents and their daughters “against” Abby. DMM has the kids arguing with their parents. Abby craps on the mothers in front of their kids sometimes, but the kids never join in! I don’t see any of the Pitt kids threatening to slap their mother for walking out.
Pageant Grandma, I thought the same thing! Then I postulated that persons Victor carries his studio with him like a church.
For the way VictAng acted, it was so OTT and different from what we’ve seen, that I wondered if they had a deal with producers to bring the drama for the finale.
However. I do not think Bitchette was acting with Leo threw that hand in her face. I also thought poor crazy Susan was seriously trying to address why things were completely out of hand. But emotions were running high… they seriously need a penalty box. Victor! Five minutes for divaing!
Bridgette and Leo are in the middle of a huge Twitter war right now, it’s pretty gory. Myra was even tweeting crap to Bridgette.
(I wasted my break reading that one!)
Obvious favoritism from VictAng towards Mia and her mother. Now Mia is amazing and I love her, but her mother is not all that like they were saying she was. Abby is prettier. I don’t think Bridgette was actually violent per se. She just moved her hand out of her face. She is just as guilty for putting her hand in someone else’s face if you ask me.
The whole bumping one solo thing was stupid. Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part type of thing. You failed to register enough solos, your bad, not mine and I would not allow my kid to be bumped for it.
God bless Hannah. What a sweet little girl. I thought it was so sweet that she offered up her solo for Mia just like that. She is kinder and wiser and braver than any of the adults on that show.
Oh and the gay fabulousness of Victor and Angel just thrills me! Victor’s bowtie!!! Angel’s cowboy hat!!! LOL!
Hannah and her selfless offer of kindness to give up her solo for another dancer was so endearing and reminded me why I bother with this show despite the bad taste it tends to leave in my mouth. I got the feeling that the “replacement” idea came into play because of Ani’s worry about replacement..like “Oh you think your kid is about to be replaced? Ha brilliant idea lets scare the moms with that!” Leo definitely took “reality show 101″ with every other mom saying “It’s not about you” 50 times she just wasn’t having that. It was damn well going to be about her no matter what they said.
Angel flinging himself between them was ludicrous…can someone make a clip of that? I’d love if it played on repeat 800 times. Moving someones hand from your face isn’t classy but…using talk to the hand poses is right up there with tea with the queen I’m sure. Also …why have your studio be on a reality show if class is on your list of priorities?
Jessi’s mom rocked it. Her points were dead on. They all should have followed one right after the other. But Ani is to sweet to manage such a brazen act and Deb feels fortunate that her daughter is getting recognition in dance…and Abby was over hugging Leo… I feel badly for Abby honestly..she got her kid onto this team and everyone was snotty to her…so she probably feels she and Leo are kindred spirits but it sure looks like its only a matter of time before she steamrolls her too.
One more thing I am no Bridgette fan but I hardly think that she was jealous of Leo like Leo said. Mia is a girl and Lucas is a boy..I don’t think that Mia is going to be taking parts away from him.
My heart also broke a bit when Lucas cried out “MOMMY!” just so sad. Then saying “Stars was his family.”
I know how that can be. When you spend all day almost every day with those other dancers and teachers you grow to be almost like a family. Even though I was not BFFs with the other dancers, I still was close to them. I was very close to my teacher. She was like a mother to me. So being abruptly kicked out would have killed me. When I did quit, it was hard. I still have dreams sometimes about being back at the studio and all the people there. It stays with you.
I might be going out on a limb here, but I think Bridgette might just not have the money to come back to Stars since she’s getting a divorce and she doesn’t have a sugar daddy like Melissa. Divorce costs a lot of money. I think she might have been thinking about it before, but then that whole scene happened and since Lucas doesn’t know about the divorce yet she might have just used that experience as an excuse because who wants to say they don’t have money on National TV? I could just be grabbing at scraps but I got this feeling. I didn’t think it was so horrible of her for doing that. She was just being overly emotional. Its not the end of the world saying you can’t dance here anymore. She wasn’t being mean about it, she just had a lot to deal with at that moment in time with the divorce and VIcAng clearly favoring Leo even though it was her being out of line. Plus looking at the Dance mom history of I quits, i doubt they actuallly will (Jessie too) I can’t believe I’m sticking up for Bitchette since shes been well a bitch the whole season but still.
As for the whole replacement thing, I think the only ones who seriously had to worry about it was Kimmy (since they’re close to the same age) and Hannah (since they keep putting her at the bottom of the list). I laughed after the list when Susan was like I think my daughter has been on the bottom the most this season. What about Hannah? Poor Hannah has been at the bottom practically every week. I was so happy when she was second. It’s kind of like Nia who was always on the bottom of the pyramid with DM and I was so happy when she did better then bottom row.
I KNEW I wasn’t going to like Leo at all. And boy was I right. When people were here after the last recap saying that Mia’s mom has a FB page for her fans and twitter and a whole youtube channel dedicated to Mia’s fans and wasn’t that wonderful. I thought, no that is pimping out your daughter. She is 10 and she may be an amazing dancer but if you want her to be famous drive 4 hours north as see the people at Disney. She is the worst kind of stage mother. You are looking at the future Dina Logan. Someone save that poor child from her. And VicAng only foster that spoiled, the world revolves around my baby and ME attitude. Hope they can pay the bills for the studio with one student, cuz that’s all they will have left. They should ask Abby how playing favorites works for her…not well as I understand.
All I know is that if Leo had her hand in my face, she would have a lip enhancement without the need of a plastic surgeon.
I love Mia she’s a great dancer and seems like a nice kid but I think vitcor and angel went all Abby on us . they treat Mia and her mom like Abby treats maddie and Melissa . like royalty compared to the others (although victor and angel are a little no alot nicer to the other kids , while showing favoritism) i felt ba for the other kids although they seem to be ok with Mia . I also think this all may be a plot made up by the producers to make the show more interested. Miami has Mia the favorite and Pitt has maddie the favorite
@Samantha, stars offers scholarships to male dancers (via victors twitter) and with his skill/potential/closeness to Victor, there is no way he wouldn’t be offered one, if he is not on one already.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=EfpOziV7i04
Mia can tap too! You go girl! My favorite type of dance!
Dance is still expensive even with a scholarship for free lessons. I taught dance at my studio so I got free lessons as part of how they pay you, but it still cost a lot of money. I still had to buy costumes, pay competition fees, pay gas to get there every day, dance wear, dance shoes, travel expenses. It still was a couple thousand a year even with the free lessons. Dance shoes alone are so expensive. If the teacher decided she wanted us wearing a different style of shoe we had to go buy new ones. None of it was cheap.
I couldn’t believe the reactions of the other moms and the “choreographers” (I personally wouldn’t call what they teach dancing) at the end of the episode. What I saw was one grown woman walk ACROSS a room while talking trash, then look horrified that the person she was talking trash to stood up to defend herself. Brigette didn’t get in her face, wanna-be Barbie stuck her hand in her face and Brigette rightly (IMO) knocked it out of the way. If you want to start something don’t act all offended when someone calls you on it.
BUT no one really likes Brigette… if the same situation played out with Barbie getting in Abby’s face, I bet you all of the mom’s would have walked out right behind Abby.
And for the love of God, put Hannah in something more flattering. She’s a total sweetheart, but spandex digging into her for every costume isn’t doing her any favors. She could be in something more flowy and sweet.
Leo has to take it down a notch or 20. Yes, she provoked Brigette. For one thing, she knew Brigette was going through something. If I can tell from TV that you do not even want to be up in Brigette’s face how can Leo not tell being in the room with her? She can. She knew someone would rush to her defense.
I have never been to any of these pages Leo runs. Mia is only ten. She seems like a good dancer and a hardworking girl. The other kids like her, so that means she really is nice to them. But, what happened with Mia (which is not her fault which is why everyone kept silent) is worse than what in going on with Abby Lee and Maddie. A.L. has known Maddie nearly her whole life. From what we can tell, A.L. and her dance studio may be the only reliable constant in Maddie’s life. So, she gives her hugs and things. But, I have seen A.L. immediately address Chloe upon entering the d.r. she gave her three compliments and no negative. Maddie was also standing there, she did well so A.L. complimented her, too. But, it was clear Chloe did better because she got the first and best compliments.
Randi, I so want to snatch up a dance dress, drive to Miami and give it to Victor for Hannah. She could be so cute if he’d let her.
Also, I believe the duet turned trio made Ani cry. I know in the episode they weren’t doing it yet, but I would almost bet money we saw that out of order. What else could she think? First they are dancing together. Then Lucas and Kimmie dance, then he reaches out and makes Mia his partner while Kimmie dances around by herself until she gives up and leaves the stage. Then, not even noticing (as part of the dance, obviously they noticed since they practiced) Lucas and Mia go off the other way. To Ani (and me) that could very well be Kimmie having to act out her own replacement. AND SHE KNEW IT. She knew she was losing her dance partner.
Leo knew good and well why Ani was crying. Ani didn’t want to speak against Mia who was only following what her teachers requested. Leo pestering her was rubbing her nose in it. Ani was just imagining how upset Kimmie would be if she didn’t lose only Lucas as her duet partner, but everything else as well.
Also, I think the ONLY reason Jessi didn’t get a solo was because, even though she is in the teen category, she is capable of getting a higher score than Mia. Although Susan is nutso, Hannah built a condo at the bottom of the list because she’s there so often.
Well, well… some good news maybe?
MIAMI SSPOILER (maybe)
I found Lucas’s dad’s twitter (pretty easy, he tweeted Brigette). He has put up a bunch of photos of Lucas and he called Brigette his wife. So, maybe the divorce is off? I certainly hope so. Little girls are telling him they want to marry Lucas. Haha
Another thing that bothers me about their performances is how they just walk off the stage at the end. We never just walked off. We walked on and off together in rhythm still in character with flair. We would 5678…..and then walk off in sync and still had our game face on. I don’t think this “Okay I done dancing…bye bye….shuffle shuffle….” off the stage. Does that bug anyone else?
April, yes. Everything I was ever involved with there was an entry and exit plan. I think some Stars kids convey that and some don’t (or the choreography requests stop, drop character, shamble away). The one dance with Mia that was Stars style that Cathy21 posted (Trapped? I can’t remember) Mia comes on, nods sternly, dances, finishes, nods sternly, and walks sternly away. She convey this was an official exit even if she wasn’t doing anything special, but maybe some can’t or get nervous, or were told to just walk away this time.
The ALDC girls spoiled us with their cute little skip. I saw one today in a gym and Chloe had a lot of distance to get “off stage” so she did the a sort of skip/run, but still the way she’s been taught.
P.S., Chloe is so cute. The skip/run was adorable.
Hannah’s more flattering costume

gun kata- even that outfit isn’t great, although, it is better!
MIAMI SSPOILER (maybe)
I read more of Brigette’s tweets. She has told Lucas and her brothers about the divorce. Hopefully, she and her husband will work things out, but…
A bunch of the kids had a slumber party with VictAng. I dunno if the moms were there, too part of the time or if they were just using phones/computers to be present. But, people are saying Brigette said Lucas will stay at Stars.
For people not following the twitter war, Leo said Brigette pushed her. Brigette says she only took Leo’s hand out of face. That was their bone of contention. Then Mayra chimed in to say that sometimes Brigette pays Jessi to babysit so she can go somewhere at night such as to dinner with Victor. Brigette told Mayra to pipe down and she pretty well did.
My fiance said Brigette may have decided to stand up to Leo because she has a boy. And he’s really good. So, she may have felt she had less chance to be kicked out of the studio.
@April Lifetime pays for the travel, hotel, and entrance fees. Maybe even the costumes too, she didn’t specify. Abby Lee said in some interviews that the kids and moms cannot get paid to be on the show because they would be considered professional dancers and professionals cannot compete at these competitions. The compensation from the show comes from all the additional stuff. That is why the lifetime cameras are banned from Thunderstruck competitions; since they were registered under “Collins Avenue” instead of ALDC and they considered it fraud. ALDC/Stars are allowed back as long as Lifetime is not involved.
So if Lucas gets a scholarship to Stars, travel entrance fees and hotels all compensated (I don’t know if costumes are compensated or not, she didn’t say, but if they are that’s another huge cost down), all they would have to pay for is shoes since he usually just wears t shirts and shorts to practice.
I couldn’t help myself, I had to watch this episode. I hated it as much as I thought I would. I’m not gonna rehash all the shitiness that went down, but I have some random thoughts. Why does Victor think black painted fingernails look good on him? And does anyone else think that his eyes look high half the time in the studio? Honestly, I don’t give a rat’s ass if he’s gay or not, but why does he have to be so friggin’ flamboyant and diva-ish? Anyone notice Mayra all spruced up now that she’s on the camera? Leo is the biggest shit stirrer. Bitchette can’t hold a candle to her. Lucas’s costumes can’t cost very much. It’s the same every week, just little shorts. As for those damn buns, Hannah and Kimmy seem to be the ones that put it at the top of their heads rather than the crown. Do you think they have stylists or is it the moms that do that? Because it seems that only poor Hannah’s is the one that’s always messy. Hannah should move to Pittsburgh and go do ALDC….Abby would at least give her better costumes and choreography. VictAng suck at that! I’m so glad this show is done. I hope it’s not renewed.
Based on what jabby and crazy Cathy have said, Miami is what Pittsburgh was supposed to be– mama drama with the dance and instructors as sort of filler.
I guess it would make sense for Lifetime to cover travel expenses and hotel rooms etc. Because otherwise most dance studios DO NOT travel every weekend to a competition. No one has that much money. We did whatever competitions come to our city and one or two that might be in a nearby city. Then we travel to our big Nationals competition that was Contest of Champions in Orlando, Florida at Disneyworld. That one was the one that cost a ton of money and we all saved up for all year.
We had to pay for airfare, buses, hotel on Disney property, Disney park hopper pass, competition fees, food. It was around $1000.
Then for two years we also did Winners Talent Showcase Nationals because one year it was in a nearby city (Nashville) and the next year we traveled to Panama City to their Nationals. I lived in Chattanooga. Typically we got Rising Star and Showstoppers, and Winners in town and that was it. We also did things like the Citrus Bowl halftime show and performing at Six Flags. The thing is even though we were performers, we still had to pay our own tickets to get in and our own everything. Dance is expensive.
I actually didn’t watch this once I realized that it was at the same time as Glee and didn’t really read the recaps until this one. I got curious and watched it streaming. All I have to say is thank god the real show is coming back next week! At least that one is fun to watch. Miami just makes me want to smack everyone on it.
I think Barbie Leo is a shitstirrer – when the moms went out to talk to whoever (the Head Mom in Charge? Waiting for VictAng? I don’t remember) and BL came out and started about how they shouldn’t the fact that one of the solos were going to go away out on her. Moms said they weren’t. BL says it’s not her fault. Moms say they know. BL says it isn’t fair that they are blaming her. Moms say they’re not. Watch out, Moms – BL is going to contact her attorney and send ya’ll some letters. She took lessons from the original martyr Melissa.
Here is my note to BL: Dear BL, You should dress and act your age. Acting cute and perky isn’t that attractive on Betty White and it certainly isn’t attractive on you. Wait, what? You aren’t as old as Betty White? Hunh. OK, then. My new advice is to dress your age and stay the hell out of the sun unless you douse yourself in SPF2000 because you look like a saddlebag. Love, ME
Chicken, I would follow that up with something witty, but I just can’t. Nail. Head. You hit it.

This is a Nightline interview with Abby Lee, PGH moms and dancers.
@April– I LOVE tap as well. Have you ever watched Sophia Lucia? She’s about 9 years old I think (maybe 8..?). I love this one tap number she does. Take a look:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwhUC-1zPGw
I think this girl is an amazing dancer! Not only does she tap, but she’s also a great jazz and lyrical dancer (and probably more). Anyway, just wanted to share. (I think Mia is great, but honestly think this girl is much better). Autumn Miller is another one that is very talented. Just my opinion of course..
This is one of Autumn Miller’s dances. She’s 9 here. There’s a bunch of youtube, but just saw this one. She’s another amazing young dancer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUx3_omydfk&feature=related
Ok, I won’t post anymore videos, but with all this talk about Mia and her youtube videos I just wanted to show there are many other very talented girls her age out there..
Mia is a good little dancer, but honestly don’t think she’s in the same league as either Sophia Lucia or Autumn Miller. Maybe not even Chloe or Maddie.. What do you guys think?
Maddie is qn amazing lyrical/contemporary dancer. Put her out there in jazz, or even ballet, and she looks lost. Chloe is, at her core, a ballerina. Tap is such a different genre (your feet can either do that, or not). I always cringe when amazing tappers show up on sytycd, because they rock, but they will probably fight with other styles.
@Pageant-grandma– Yes, I agree, Maddie is an amazing lyrical dancer. It bothers me that Abby doesn’t change things up a bit for her.. If she’s really trying to help her in the dance world, she should expose her to some other styles, even if she doesn’t win. It’s like she (Abby) wants to “win” so badly that she’s not giving Maddie the experience of competing in something different than that same lyrical dance we always see (few variations, but basically the same dance). She’s a great little dancer, and I’m sure could pick up quick with Jazz, maybe even tap, but she just has her compete in the lyrical category. Chloe… Just love her! Yes, I really wish her mom would just take her out of there and put her in a proper ballet school to get the training she needs. Like you, I believe she is a natural ballerina, but don’t think she’s going to get that ballet training staying with Abby. I think both girls are great dancers and I love to watch them both (as well as the other girls, but I do think Chloe and Maddie are more advanced at this point at least).
I think this broke the staged scene record. All the drama about going to take somebody else’s solo. When you knew they weren’t going to do any such thing.
And just when I’d been thinking some of them were getting better at saying their lines.
Which is the problem. Instead of thinking about if the kids are improving at doing their StarBooty dances, what’s on my mind is if they’re getting any better at being a character on a reality show.
My guess is the scenes with the kids crying were from their last shooting day when they broke down the set. It didn’t have anything to do with the story line. Just crying like people do at the end of any play or show or anything.
What a coincidence that 2 of them pick the show finale to leave that studio. After they’ve all spent every episode complaining.
I didn’t feel like we got to see enough of Mia actually dancing for me to say anything much more than it looks like she’s going to grow up to look like Reese Witherspoon.
It’d surprise me if they got a 2nd season. It’s just too thrown together.
Maddie would never make it as a ballerina– she’s built like a spark plug– compact. Ballerinas are built like Chloe. long, narrow, leggy. Maddie probably has a future on broadway (assuming she can sing), but she will not get there without being asked to do more than turn, turn, ponche, turn, tour jete, turn, ponche, develope, turn, look at your foot.
@gun kata Yes they must’ve paid somebody to design the most unflattering costume for Hannah they could get.
And then made her do uglyfoot again on top of that.
If Lifetime’s buying the costumes VicTang ought to ask them to please throw everybody in a pair of clean toe thongs for the StarBooty.
Little pink feet with a big black spot on them isn’t a cute look.
Kthxbai, I figure they have another year or two of putting Hannah in ugly costumes and having sumo be her go to pose before she starts begging for something else.
I don’t like those kids running all over without shoes. I guess they don’t mind dirty feet, but yeeech. So, yes, wipe down all the feet and put on clean foot paws or whatever before they perform.
I think it is possibe that Abby Lee can get Maddie (and some others) to where she/they need to be to pursue a career. Next break, Christi needs to enroll Chloe in ballet somewhere else. Because it could be she is a ballerina through and through. She certainly looks like one. I don’t think Abby can get her where she needs to be or at least not alone if Chloe becomes a ballet only student. This is not a criticism of Abby for once, but ballet is special. It could be, however, that Christi has offered to do this and it’s not what Chloe wants.
I also wonder about Kimmie. Is she a ballerina? She’s disciplined and precise. Perhaps Ani could enroll her someplace that specialized in ballet just to discover if that is where her heart is. But, I think she likes dancing with Lucas, so she may want to continue doing their duets. I have a feeling Mia will be kept busy enough that she won’t be dancing with Lucas every time.
I wish whomever (probably Leo) taught Mia some of the facial expressions she does did her a disservice. She looks prettier when she is just being herself than when she’s doing a face. Those faces make her look older or something.
The kids in both studios should be given two weeks to perfect their dances. I love to watch Maddie, but she does need more variety. For the extra week, she wouldn’t dance one of the other girls would do the solo she’s been working on for two weeks. Also, the group dances need more focus. It is a fact that most dancers will be on stage with other dancers if they do this for a living.
MIAMI SPOILER
I don’t know if the kids were excessively sad about the finale because they took a month’s hiatus, then started filming again.
Oops!
I meant I THINK whomever taught Mia to do faces did her a disservice. I only wish the best for her, the only girl who looks cute in all that Stars crap.
Maddie and Lucas (and their phones, lol)

Dani: That girl can tap! Thanks for posting that!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGiPLpVz4Qc&feature=related
Another Sophia Lucia tap dance and she was only 7! I thought I was a good tapper and I was only that good at like 17.
I really like Hannah. I really DISLIKE that sumo pose. I dont know dance, is that a common pose? It is not attractive at all and makes her appear to be larger than what she is. Why is it in almost every dance she does?
Closet fan: I mean we might do like one count in that pose in a transition type sequence or combination but we never got down in it and stayed there forever like she does. I don’t get it.
Mia is cute, but her glass doll eyes scare the hell out of me. She reminds me of a horror show robot child, definitely being programmed for evil by her hyper-defensive plastic mama…yikes!
My first thought when I saw Leo was, “Aww. Isn’t that cute? She’s pretending to be Charo.”
Grammy! That’s EXACTLY what I thought! Charro all the way! Victang made this huge deal over Mia being some big celebrity, but honestly, she’s not. Joan q. Public watching this show doesn’t know her from a hole in the wall. I only know her because I looked her up one YouTube after the “parking lot is on fire” episode. To the vast majority of the 47 people still watching this trainwreck, she’s nobody special. She is a great dancer, but so are all the kids already on this show. And charro-mom is a fruitloop. I can’t wait to get our pittsburgh girls back next week.
I wish they’d stop with those top-of-the-head buns! They make the kids look terrible! I think Mia, Kimmie, and Hannah are adorable, but they all look ridiculous in those buns. I don’t see the point – they would make anyone look silly. But I guess at the ugly foot sumo pose studio, silly is the norm…
The unicorn buns are terrible. Crown of the head, at the highest. I am really hoping that what we see of the routines are what the not-dance-educated editors thought was most impressive. The kids are on stage for 3 minutes, and we see about 1 minute of that, so there is some hope that the real “chor-ography” is better. But (and I know I’ve said it before), victang, PLEASE put Hannah in a more flattering costume. PLEASE teach jessi another facial expression other than “scowl like you’re mad at your crazy mom”, PLEASE give Sammy a dance that doesn’t look like it belongs on a mirrored stage with a pole, PLEASE give Lucas some clothes, and for the love of all that is good and right in this world, DESTROY that horrid lime-green monstrosity of a camel-toe costume Mia wore in that last episode. Oh, and victor– Lucas was right. “not with that hair!”.
P-grandma, we must be in the same age-range to remember all of Charo’s appearances on The Tonight Show (the real one with Johnny Carson) and The Love Boat. Everyone else is all “Who the hell is Charo?” And I can’t wait for Tuesday either.
Lynnie, the mothers from Miami need to tune in to Dance Moms to see the adorable hairstyles on the Pittsburgh girls. Some of their costumes aren’t great (topless showgirls comes to mind – oh wait – that never happened), but their hair is always cute, and never looks like a doorknob on the top of their heads.
Way off topic but I cannot resist… I’m old enough to remember those Charo appearances. Until recently, I really thought she was just the koochie-koochie gimmick girl. But not too long ago, I discovered (via Pandora) that she is a really really good guitarist! Who knew?
Sophia is incredible! Thank you for posting those, Dani. Wow. She is really a good tapper. One of Maddie’s tap routines came up under suggestions, so I watched hers as well. She was using very traditional music which normally is great for taps, but it was a little too loud, so it drowned out her tapping sometimes. But, she was good, too. The first one with Sophia with no music is amazing because that is a proud tap tradition… make your own music with your feet!
Autumn was doing kind of too mature of a dance. I wish whomever is teaching these girls these faces would stop because someone in the comments called her a name. It was the face she did because it was o.k. til that happened toward the end. Anyway, she is a good dancer. She should’ve had a little bit of pink on her shoes to match her gloves. On Project Runway, Michael put some green ribbons on a girl’s shoes and it really added a lot. Of course, she wasn’t dancing. So, I am not sure how to incoporate the pink ribbon for Autumn.
Corinthia, Charo is really sort of amazing. She can do crazy stuff, but she also has talent. She plays guitar beautifully.
Pageant Grandma, Abby Lee has said the people filming and editing the routines for TV don’t know dancing. I think they are trying to film it so we see exactly which child we’re watching and things like that. I think they are learning how to film dance better, but those poses have to be irrestible to them because they are so easy to film. But, I don’t think they are always showing the best parts of a dance. I always try to look at the dances on YT. Usually someone will post an unedited version. I wish Collins Ave. Would do that so it would be professional quality, but at least you can see the dance.
Hannah has a dance called Storm that her mother recommends. I saw that on Bob’s twitter.
@gun Kata– Yes, I think Sophia Lucia is amazing, and she’s still only 9. I agree with you about Autumn Miller. I just put that up there to give an idea what a good dancer she is, but I DO NOT like some of the moves and faces, but that’s not her fault, but the fault of her choreographer. She was one of the girls that was in the “single ladies” dance (which dance moms copied their costumes almost exactly when they did “electricity”). It was on the news awhile back about these 7 year olds dancing in these skimpy outfits and dancing too mature. I’ve seen a few others with her (Autumn), and obviously the dance school she goes to is big on these kind of numbers, but I agree with you that it’s not appropriate at all for a little girl to dance that way. I do, however, think she is extremely talented, which is why I wanted to show that video. There’s a lot of really talented kids out there- far better than “Mia” or “Maddie”, not that I have anything against them, but the way they (especially Mia) make her sound like she’s this big celebrity superstar made me want to post a few others of girls in the same age, who I think are much better. I’m sure there are more if I keep looking, but those 2 struck me as very talented young dancers, who are in a whole other league than Mia.
Ok, here is the youtube “single ladies” dance. They are only 7 years old. Amazing dancers, but WAY to sexy moves/costumes IMO! Autumn Miller is in this one too.
OMG that is the EXACT electricity costume in red! wow! I say an interview once with Autumn Miller and she said that her mom is a dancer and owns the studio that she dances at. Personally I think the single ladies dance is adorable. Here is another video with Autumn doing a trio to my boyfriends back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXCDv0IorMQ
Here is another dance that I think has Sophia and Autumn and I think it is cute, but would obviously be better to see senior dancers doing it, not little girls. It still made me smile though.
Dani, I just love watching dance. But, it just seems weird sometimes the things that creep into routines. The problem is, the kids exaggerate the facial expressions and don’t leave it on the dance floor. I think Starbooty has been its own little thing for so long that other than the dancers, coaches, judges, and some parents no one ever saw the dances anyway. So, they didn’t have to consider the wider audience whose familiarity with Starbooty was far less than the familiarity with, say, music videos. I guess they are just thinking, “look at all she can do and how many dancers she can emulate!” Where as the wider audience is more, “wth?”
The thing about Single Ladies is they did it exactly like the video (except there are more of them and they are younger). So, that is mostly what I took away from it… I haven’t watched it in a while. I saw the Electricity dance… I noticed the girls didn’t do the faces, so even though the moves were kind of “hm”, they made it demure by not doing that part.
They thought they were something else and the little girls in the audience are loving it, too. Little girls are kind of attracted to shiny, flashy stuff. That wears off, naturally. But, I can remember how I felt kind of when I was younger than these girls though. But, they would’ve been my heroes in their super glittery costumes.
After this episode I lost all respect for Vict/Ang. I don’t think the drama with the moms was manufactured. I think they were sincerely traumatized when they realized how far Vict/Ang were prepared to compromise the integrity of the studio for the sake of the show. And if it’s true that Bitchette has a social relationship with Victor that explains SO MUCH and fills in a lot of gaps. How she was able to shit stir so successfully with Bob and Abby for instance. And why she always looks UNtraumatized and like the cat that ate the canary when things surprise the other mothers. I now think Vict/Ang would indeed be capable of sabotaging a dance — they sabotaged the group number for the sake of finale drama! Finally, on a very important note, did anyone else notice how surprisingly saggy Leo’s bottom was in those tight white trousers she was wearing at the beginning? I felt oh so much more relaxed about the bag of potato chips I was scarfing down at that moment.
OMG, I so didn’t notice Evil Charro’s booty. I am sure in Victorese it is “fabulous” and “bombshell” and maybe even “fierce!”
I don’t know if they intentionally sabotaged the group dance or not. It should be common sense that throwing Lady Gaga, oh sorry Mia, into the dance would change the group dynamics. And I get the idea the non-TV competition group may include Mia and these kids, but in different configurations. It doesn’t matter if Mia is sweet, a good dancer, and universally beloved… they still have to adjust to a whole extra person.
If Mia had just come into the dance normally, they would have adjusted faster because they do like her. But, VictAng practically tossed fresh rose petals on the Marley to make sure her dainty foot did not step in the placed a commoner had pirouetted.
I don’t know… it still seems as if they wanted Mia to do so well everyone was begging her to stay. But, I think they would have accepted her without all the hoopla. Now, Leo… maybe not.
Okay…what is “Starbooty” Are you referring to Starpower competitions? Or does it mean like trashy dancing?
April, someone said Starbooty as a way to refer to all these competitions once in comments. So, I mean all the competitions like Starpower, Starbound, Nextstar, Energy, etc.
oh okay gun kata. thanks.
I am starting to wonder if Dance competitions are going to turn into the next beauty pageants where everyone criticizes them and they become taboo and televised and examined?
I hope not because they in general are very positive.
You know someone said that the dance world has enough drama without adding to it with made up stuff. I can agree on that. Or at least it can be interesting without having to make up stuff. There is always jealously, fighting, drama, favoritism, dancers missing practices or showing up late, people messing up in the dance, etc. That happens just naturally.
We had a crazy story one time where at the Contest of Champions which is a huge competition in Disney World, our main competition in the Pom-pon category was a studio from our area that was basically run by our studio owner’s best friend’s daughter. So she was purposefully going up against us. But not only that. She copied us. She copied our team name very closely. The year before we had been “Velocity” and she chose “Phelocity” which is stupid because what the hell does “Phelocity” even mean right?
So then the competition people got confused and put them at the head of the parade when we as the reigning champs were supposed to be at the front of the parade. Then they also mixed up scores so that that team won at the awards ceremony. We were floored because they sucked and we were awesome so how did we lose? So we waited till we got our scorecards and figured out what had happened. So the competition apologized and said they would mail us a trophy but would not take the other one back from that team either so as to not hurt their feelings.
So they were trying to say they won even though we told them what had happened. So we get back to Chattanooga and one of the father’s of our dancer is a radio DJ talk show host. He was talking about what happened on air and one of their dancers or dance moms called in all bitching about how they did win and an on air fight went on between some of our people calling in and their people. Then we got called “Sequin sluts”. It was outrageous!
So yeah……..plenty of drama. That is just one story.
If people continue to have little girls dance to burlesque songs and teach them some of these facial expressions which are way, way out of their age category while people like Leo heavily promote them… yes, they will become controversial. Some girls can do a variation that is still sweet and innocent showing they haven’t been taught to mimic someone older. Some have seen the sources material, think it’s pretty, and are good mimics. So, they look exactly like what they are copying. Choreographers need to stop that. The girls will grow up all by themselves. They don’t need to precisely do some of this stuff. They only need to precisely do their dance.
They have their whole lives to be women and maybe have to do some come hither faces because the choreographer wants the routine to be sexy. They only have a few years to do sweet routine, or if they are good… arty routines. Let them be girl dancers rather than video vixens. There are more video vixens, strippers, drag queens, and whomever else who can bring the risque and are old enough to figure out sexy on their own.
The girls are good dancers so, I doubt it will ever go into T&T territory. The problem with T&T is they are, at best, training to do more pageants which will eventually stop. Dance IS an art form. So, even if the girls stop dancing after they age out of Starbooty, they can still do something with their knowledge. Maybe they can show their kids how to dance and see if their kids need lessons. Or they could be the best dancer when the go out to the club. Or maybe they could run an adult dance class. Or write recaps. They can do whole lot more than someone who can’t even remember winning all their pageant tropies.
The Single Ladies girls aren’t doing the face thing, from what I can tell. They look more like they are singing. And they really good. There’s like two moves that could come out of that and I don’t think anyone would’ve said a word. But, I guess they tried to borrow from the video. Also, they look super excited to be dancing to Beyonce and the girlish excitement is sweet.
We mostly had drama a la Crazy Cathy versus Abby Lee meaning rival studio drama. Like dancers would get mad and go to our rival studio and vice versa. We also had a dancer’s costumes be stolen from her bag at a competition. We assume by a rival studio.
After that we all bought royal blue (studio’s colors) duffel and garment bags to keep our costumes in and had them with our names and studio names on them. Then we could keep a better watch on them and people would be less likely to try to steal them. We were also instructed to never leave our bags without someone watching them.
