MiniCap: Drag Race

Greetings again, Gasmii! Welcome to week six of RuPaul’s Drag Race.  And it was a pretty lively episode. Emotions! Drama! Drama queening!  Mean girl cliques! Good singing! Bad singing! Really, truly awful singing! Crying daddies!  Crying queens!  Even more crying queens! La Toya! THE POINTER SISTERS!!!! And Lucian Piane and is amazing facial expressions!

First up, the mini challenge. Ru’s pretty much shooting  blanks by now, trying to come up with relevant mini-challenges, so he finally says “Screw it,” and tells the queens to paint on some slap in the dark.  While Ru gives us an eyeful of the Pit Crew through night vision, the queens furiously paint and the results are not nearly as terrifying as you’d think.  Make of that what you will.

Main challenge is to record a mid-80s super group humanitarian single called “Can I Get an Amen.”  Queens are broken out into three teams with each team responsible for either the first verse, second verse or the bridge.  Now that we’re into the heart of the season, the mini challenge winner gets the invaluable prize of fucking over whomever she wants and this queen takes full advantage of it.  And it pays off…in ABUNDANCE!

A couple of queens are surprisingly good singers, most are not, a couple way overestimate just how awesome their awesomeness is, one can’t not pout and act like a whiny little baby with a load in her diaper, and Lucian does not disappoint by producing roughly 183 WTF faces in five minutes. He really is adorable.

Runway asks the queens to highlight their favorite body part which most of them don’t seem to grasp does not mean “your entire body.”  Good for you, you love everything about yourself, now cover up your ass.  Some things don’t need to be seen.  Panel is particularly spirited and fun and even the lip synch managed to not only entertain me but gave me a little more respect for one of the queens that I didn’t have much respect for before.

And then there was…Untucked. If you haven’t watched it, grab yourself a box of tissue because you’re gonna need it.

Full recap should be up on Friday. Until then, you can catch up on the last recap here. Or you can watch the video:

And consider buying it from iTunes. It’s only $.99 and proceeds go to the LA Gay and Lesbian Center, which is a really great organization.

Jinxx and Ivy killed this challenge. Good for them! Ivy does have the best creative outfits and style this season. I want a dress made out of pictures of me dammit!

Alyssa just is the bitch you love to hate….or hate to love which ever one. Her faces, her terrible singing, her joke about her Dad and then her emotion. I hope she sticks around.

I think Coco was kept around purely for more drama just because while Jade’s outfit was horrible Coco had a bad outfit too and acted way more the fool in the challenge and had LSFYL before, So really I would have sent her home over Jade personally.

I may not have been a fan of the eliminated contestant, but she did earn props for her lipsync (and her surprisingly graceful acceptance of being in the bottom during Untucked). That’s how you go out.

Sadly, my love for Detox and Roxxxy is slipping. At least Alaska is aware enough to note the obnoxiousness of their clique.

I totally get what Ru was saying about Alaska and her lack of “real” emotion. She is confident and funny and glam, but there does seem to be something Ru sees under the exterior she isn’t letting out.

Jinx Rocked again…Ivy is still hanging in there .
It would be a shame to keep coco around just for drama.

    untucked was brutal…tears!

I seem to recall during last season that Sharon was extremely concerned about what Alaska would do at home alone since she had auditioned so many times without success and Sharon made the show on her first try. I remember Sharon being very relieved when Alaska Skyped in and was healthy and seemed fine. I wondered at the time if Alaska might have some issues with depression or something related – her comedy could be a cover for something like that. IMHO, I don’t think Ru should push it. Alaska clearly wants to be in the Drag Race and I do think she gives her all to every challenge.

It was sweet how Alaska said something along the lines of “They expect me to show heart like Sharon but no one has as big a heart as Sharon Needles.”

Agree with you, @Paco, the Roxxxy love is waning – replaced by Jinkx!

With every episode, I am liking Coco less and less.
I never really liked her as a queen, but I thought her personality was entertaining at least.
    How wrong was I?
It’s a sad thing when the oldest bitch in the room is also the least mature.
And then I’m liking Alyssa more and more.
    Drag Jesus help me.

I still love Roxxxy, even though she and Detox together are getting on my nerves.

And it looks like Lineysha wasn’t making up stories when she said that Detox was a piece of silicone with eyes and legs.
Bitch is a walking flotation device. I wonder where she even gets the money to do all that shit.

Jinkx has definitely grown on me, but her makeup breaks my heart.
Why does she contour so hard?
The darkness makes it look like she rubs charcoal on her cheek bones and on the sides of her nose, and she never blends it in correctly. I know glamourfish isn’t her thing, but just for once, I’d like to see her be pretty.

And Ivy is interesting, because she ‘s clearly talented and pretty, but I just can’t root for her or really muster up any opinion about her one way or another.
    Maybe it’s because she’s stupid?

Whenever I see Detox and Roxxxy doting on each other, I kinda feel bad for Alaska… She’s usually there, she’s in the clique but clearly not in the inner sanctum. That whole matter went from cute to annoying to just plain strange in no time at all! Fortunately Alaska doesn’t seem to mind too much. I do agree that she seems to have a certain sadness to her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had clinical depression or even dysthymia. Somehow I don’t see her getting to the end but I do like her and kinda want to give her a hug and tell her everything will be alright!

A lot of my early favorites are now seriously getting on my nerves! Especially Detox. The only thing I ever remember about Ivy is the way Ru announces her! Sigh, I’m disappointed in this season.

    Team Jinkx!

I noticed this episode that Alaska was barely giving her bit to the “Ro-Laska-Tox” thing…I think she’s gotten wise to the fact that the whole thing is bullshyte.

And I’ve always been a little (a lot) disturbed by Detox’s giant pec implants. I can handle the plastic face, but those titays are just…well…not right.

Alaska does seem sad sometimes and I do wonder if might have depression or something. I love when she calls Sharon “Noodles”. I would so love to attend their gay wedding. You can tell how much they love each other.

I don’t get why Coco puts in all the wild contacts. I think I have seen his God given eyes once or twice and they actually look very pretty so why the crazy contacts constantly? I understand it for a costumed look or to change it up, etc but not all the freaking time!

I also was proud of Jade and how she went out with a lot of class. Good for her!

Oh this episode ( and untucked) was a game changer! Detox may have disappointed me permanently, but I still like Roxxy. I wish one of them would help Alaska with her makeup and hair, though! Her face during runway still looked like it was put on in the dark! And her hair looked like a raggedy Amy Winehouse wig from (yes) Party City! I love Alaska but she has to step up her game. Although after watching the bonus footage of Snatch Game, i think she should have won instead of Jynkx. Her voice wasn’t as good as Jynkx’s Edie, but she was much funnier. Ivy is surprising me but if you think about it, she has been in the high group more than any of the queens. I agree that there is still something missing from her, though. On Untucked, Alyssa’s dad’s speech could not have been more moving and eloquent if it was scripted! I hope he meant everything he said.
Thank you, vallegirl. I live for your Drag Race recaps!

I agree with everyone else that Jinkx’s stock is constantly rising. She’s so adorable.

Detox needs to cut the shit and go back to being my Raven. If she’s there to get up on Roxxy, do it after the show. And am I correct in saying this is the first time there’s been any hint at a “romance” on this show?

    RuPaul’s Prayer

Our Mother, which art on Logo
    SIckening is Thy name.
    Thy runway come,
Thy will be done, on stage
as it is in the werk-room.

Give us this day, our daily shade
    and give us advice
as we paint for the gods

and lead us all to be most fierce
and deliver us from bad tucks

For thine is the queen-dom and the couture and the wigs forever

    I have a love/hate relationship with RoLaskaTox.

Two-thirds of the trio, I have no issue whatsoever and actually like.

So let me rephrase … I am just going to put it out there … I really dislike Roxxxy. Not for her look, not for her paint, not for her body … but for the horrid mean-girl attitude she has going on. I am getting STRONG Delta Work vibes from her. In fact, I’d go so far to say that if Delta lost as much weight as Roxxxy, they may be difficult to tell apart.

I have mixed feelings about DeTox. When she is on her own, she seems like MamaTox. She is the first one to pass out hugs, tissues … she even clutched Coco’s shriveled paw when she was called safe. She has a sharp wit and is fierce on the runway but it seems that Roxxxy brings out the cattiness. Detox, in her confessionals is never as vicious as Roxxxy.

Alaska … never mean, always sweet and funny. I cringed when Ru started comparing her to Sharon. *sniff* My poor Alaska. Chin up honey. I know you’re going to slay next week.

i might be in the minority, but i love alyssa. i love her crazy faces, her shade throwing, and her willingness to still go along with things even when she doesn’t get her way (basically the opposite of coco, who i really liked at first, but have since grown to kind of dispise). i think alyssa was willing to play the whole gay pageant angle for drama and fun-she just doesn’t seem to hold as big a grudge as coco. i also like her crazy metaphors in her talking heads.
