MiniCap: Drag Race

Hello! Hello! Hello! This week sees a nautical theme hit RuPaul’s Drag Race as the queens are given a bunch of beach, boat and cruising puns in SheMail and, unsurprisingly, Jiggly hasn’t a clue what it means. But it doesn’t matter. Ru’s here in an outfit that would make Simon Doonan squeeze out a joyful tear or two to get the queens up to speed.

First, the mini challenge. And since the queens have been working so hard, Ru’s decided to treat them to Spring Break in Dragtona Beach, aka field trip to the studio parking lot. There the queens will compete in a wet t-shirt contest and the queen with the most enthusiastic reception WINS! Each queen is provided a set of massive latex jugs and, of course, a t-shirt promoting Glamazon by RuPaul to tart up as the queens see fit. Only one queen is woefully inadequate but while I won’t spoil the results in the minicap when the challenge is to ho it up, there really is only one go-to queen and, duh, she wins.

With the frivolity out of the way, the main challenge is about respecting one’s elders and understanding the past. Ru gives the queens a mini herstory lesson about Stonewall and the mighty queen, Marsha P. Johnson who helped launch a movement. Main challenge is about hope and Pride and the queens are tasked with creating mini Pride floats based on the eight colors of the original gay pride flag. Colors will be assigned by bandana because Ru likes to be…let’s say cheeky…and the mini challenge winner chooses this moment to be all professional and above petty grievances and hands them out in the most equitable way possible. Still doesn’t stop Jiggly from bitching about her color, though. (Is it a spoiler to say Jiggly didn’t win the mini challenge?)

This week’s a runway challenge so there’s a whole lot of workroom footage, including Chad, Sharon and Willam showing that they’re all more than just pretty faces by knowing their history while Jiggly hasn’t a clue about it, but to her credit is open to listening and learning and humble enough to realize she needs to know more about her own culture.

Ru’s workroom visits pretty much telegraph who’s going to win and who’s going to LSFYL while TVG’s very own favorite queen, Willam, gives a master class on how to combine a big, healthy ego with enough charisma to take a float that’s an homage to the power and glory that is Willam and make the whole thing really cute and charming.

Guest judges are Kelly Osborne and Pauly Perrette, who Willam’s only worked with once, as he informs us after being asked. And then, in a moment where I find a cosmic bond with Willam, he flips off Sharon in the exact same way I’ve been flipping off friends, family and co-workers FOR YEARS!

Full recap in a few days. Until then, you can catch up on the last recap here.

I adore Willam more every week. She’s gone to that place in my heart where she can do no wrong (like Raven)!

Kind of want PeePee to stay around because it is so hilarious to watch her dog everyone’s talent and then get sooooo angry when they outshine her. She looked great on runway this week, though.

One more elimination and they will all be dear to me in their own ways. But Willam FTW.

I need to bleach my eyes after watching “Un-T’d”… that 2-toed JigglySloth sitting there all slack-jawed and spread-eagle, wearing piggie slippers. You can’t UNSEE that kind of nightmare.

And as much as PhiPhi irritates my every nerve, bitch did a bang-up job on the runway. Due props.

@randomnicole You’re my Bad Cartoon Avatar twin!

I’m Team Latrice though. So we’re not identical.

I love Chad and Sharon too. But they’re kind of like when The World’s Next Great Artist put Leon Lim and The Sucklord in.

Hah @kthxbai our little hair spout thing is HOT.

I love Latrice too. I’m totally cool with her winning, or Chad or Sharon. Willam just has my adoration.

Of course I liked the Sucklord too, so what do I know.
