This week the queens were tasked with making over plus-sized women and Ru threw me a curve. No one who was obviously the prettiest or thinnest or youngest or had the most sympathetic personal story. So I had to decide which of those factures was most important.
There was Amber, who was both the youngest and the prettiest but also the biggest. Was that a mitigating factor? I figured it was and didn’t pick her. Although I did question that decision when I saw her on the runway…and her awesome brother in the audience. She’s working with Sharon Needles and has a bum ankle.
Then there was Mary who gained a significant amount of weight in the last year due to a recently diagnosed underactive thyroid. Despite her sympathetic story she is also 47 and much older than the other two so I didn’t pick her, either. She’s working with Raja
Finally there’s Sinead. She’s a “nanny” who wants to feel sexy. About halfway through I decoded that to mean she’s an actor who wants a job. But she’s the thinnest and hammiest so I went with that and picked her as my pony for this episode. She’s working with Pandora Boxx.
The women are put through their paces and meet with Ru and it’s on to draguation with visiting professor Holly Robinson Peete who…I’ve heard of! I’m as surprised as you are. We also learn, sorry to say this Pandy fans, that Santino was not wrong in criticizing her runway ensembles. It was pretty easy to play “Guess who didn’t win.” Then we meet the women’s friends and family and learn that Mary has a very enthusiastic husband, Sinead’s friends are most likely from her acting class and Amber has absolutely no excuse for letting herself get frumpy. But which facture reigned supreme?

This time, I projected my inner Valle, and nailed the ringer in the first meet and greet. On the runway, well, I wasn’t so sure anymore.
Sharon did such an amazing make up job, stunning!!!! Go Sharon!!!
I think I figured out why I just can’t care about this show (and I watched over a full season, so I gave it a fair shot). There is a distinct lack of the queens. They’re there, they quip sometimes, but it’s mostly a focus on some sad, sad ladies with no attitude who end up looking more like men in dresses than the queens! Drag as done by drag queens just doesn’t work for women. I understand that all too well, hence why I have a picture of me with my first bf where he did my makeup, so I ended up looking like the boy. XD
