MiniCap: Drag U

After last week’s emotional episode, this week scales way back to make over Lovely, Marilyn and Sarah, three “cupcake queens” aka professional bakers who spend more time in their chef’s coats, and Freddy Kruger drag, than in women’s clothes. It’s a relatively mellow episode featuring more universal kinds of issues (workaholic, going through a divorce, insecurities) as opposed to tragic ones. Meanwhile, the trend of being helpful, friendly and nice continues.

This week’s professors are Mariah working with Lovely, Latrice working with Marilyn and Alexis working with Sarah. Other than a couple of tame reads, the biggest drama from the queens came from WTF was going on with Mariah’s lashes on that first day because, for real, WTF was going on with them? It looked like she ran out of false eyelashes and applied two live caterpillars.

The women are so amenable and low key that the editors were tasked with creating a dramatic storyline around how Marilyn might be physically incapable of screaming. That’s right a storyline about how undramatic one of the contestant’s is. Luckily, Willam was on hand to teach us how to apply self-tanner. (Miss you!)

Draguation comes, and it’s down to Lovely and Sarah. Bless Marilyn, but it’s not really a spoiler to say she was out of her depth from jump. Still, she was game and had fun. And while the editing implied one thing, the performance, both in the lip synch and the runway, seemed to favor one woman so I was a little surprised when the other won.

Thanks to the midweek 4th of July holiday, full recap should be up by Friday. Until then, you can catch up on the last recap here.
