Minicap: DWTS All-Stars

By PopePhilly | | 12:10 am | 14 Comments

Greetings, Gasmii! I’m going to be completely honest. I didn’t get a chance to watch the Monday night episode of “DWTS.” I was driving home from PA. I only get to see my family every few months, and I wanted to be sappy and squeeze out every least second of this visit. I will definitely watch it in time to have a full recap up for you all on Thursday. For now, I’m just going to write what most likely happened and what I think should have happened.

Oh, yes, it’s ladies’ night…

Well, as usual on the first night of the “DWTS” finale, each couple recreates their favorite dance of the season. I’m willing to bet that Kelly and Val improved upon a dance, Melissa and Tony were perfect, and Derek and Shawn performed a dance meant to be a big “fuck you” to Len. Am I right? Please someone let me know! Also, it was freestyle night. These are always fun dances. However, this season, the couples are allowed to bring in other dancers. I’m looking forward to see that one.

Now, here’s what I think should have happened. First, Shawn and Derek just shouldn’t have been there. Instead, the producers should have swapped them out for Gilles and Peta or Apolo and Karina. My 83-year-old grandmother even hates Shawn and Derek. The first thing she said to me over Thanksgiving dinner was, “That ass hole Derek better not win!” My nana is kind of awesome.

Second, Kelly and Val should have just run away and eloped so they could come back and consummate their relationship on the dance floor. I bet “little Lenny” would give that a 10. With those two couples out of the way, Melissa and Tony will be the only couple to actually dance and be handed the mirror ball trophy without any voter say. The ‘gasm seems to want them to win. I think that’s good enough.

Thanks for dealing with this rather silly minicap, Gasmii. I just got home after a three and a half hour drive with my cat riding shotgun and crying the entire time. This minicap is the result of that. I’ll be back soon with the full recap. In the mean time, check out last week’s recap if you haven’t already!

Yah, I’d have to agree. You know what happened without even watching! I just have this to say, I didn’t like the addition of other dancers and “extras” in the freestyle.

Admitting on TV that you are breaking the rules and giving a HUGE F-YOU to the judges who had already called you out on this earlier in the season should be a disqualification or at best a score of 5. Shawn is a FORMER (god do they overplay the FAILED comeback story) Olympian who was trained to perform within the rules for judges scores. Did Derek really brainwah her into a complet 180 or was she onboard all along?

They judges should have been hellapissed but instead lightly took them to task and even raised theu score 1/2 point. While they claimed to do it for the audience and entertainment value I was not impressed by their WTF you know were gonna win attitude. Plus the Fab 5 – OMG why don’t you just pass out free cell phones.

Team Melony FOR THE WIN! By the way voting on Facebook is a joke as it has been down all AM!?!?!?

I voted 5 times for Kelly and VAL for obvious reasons. When he did that dance in the water. Wow. I’ve had a new screen saver since last week. Guess what the picture is?

Am I the only one on the planet that hated Kelly and Val’s performance of “I’ve had the time of my life”?
I also thought they should have been marked down by Len & Bruno for the obvious issue of the missed hold…it was pretty glaring.

The samba was cute from Team Melony, but I thought that the random hoop dancers hanging from the ceiling kinda was weird during their freestyle.

I love Shaun & Derek’s quasi-quickstep, but agree that perhaps they shouldn’t have blown off the judges that way. And while I liked their freestyle, I thought that all of the freestyles were kinda meh.

I would like Shaun to win, but only if she can do it without Derek, so in absence of that, I want Tony and Melissa to win. I am also major po’d because I was trying to vote ALL MORNING and could never get it to work. It kept telling me there was a server error.

@considerthis, I said the SAME THING! That the judges, especially Len, should have given Shawn and Derek straight across 5s for that giant FU dance! I didn’t like Derek before, now he’s really showed what an asshole douchebag he is.

@SaraKate, yes, Kelly and Val had that obviously missed handhold, but they recovered beautifully and she didn’t let it rattle her. I wouldn’t have lowered their score for that very reason.

Hubby and I are rooting for Tony or Val. Team NotDerek!

@Gma: I tried. I did have a friend watching the show for me, so she kept me filled in.

@chooch: I’ve heard mixed reviews on the additional dancers in the freestyle. I’m looking forward to watching it.

@considerthis: It would have been really cool had Derek and Shawn performed the tango that she did with Mark while Derek was hurt. I would have liked to see that.

@Mister_Dangerous: That dance was all types of sexy – even if Carrie Ann didn’t think it was flamenco enough.

@SaraKate: Maybe, if there is a split vote, it could be like what would happen in an election – Shawn and Tony win (without Melissa and Derek).

I was disappointed in Kelly and Val’s freestyle dance. It started off great and then the troupe dancers rushed the stage and they seemed to get lost in the crowd. It lost it’s magic and it ended predictably which made me go “That’s it?”

I thought it was funny how Len claimed Shawn did something unpredictable when…she was on stage with five other gymnasts performing gymnastics. So unpredictable for an Olympic gold medal winning gymnast. I know I was surprised.

I want Kelly and Val to win just because she really has had the toughest row to hoe of any of the celebrities. That first season was Waiting for Guffman in it’s professionalism and the stars were doing very rudimentary choreography, plus she only did half the number of dances as the rest. By the time Melissa and Shawn were on it was this big, glitzy dog & pony show.

Wcsdancer – see, I didn’t think she recovered so beautifully. I thought she looked rattled for a good chunk of time afterwards.

    I like PopePhilly’s suggestion…Tony & Shaun win!

@chooch: I have the “that’s it” feeling for most of the freestyle dances each year. They get built up so much and then aren’t anything we haven’t seen before.

@vallegirl: Shawn is a gymnast?!?! I had no idea! It would be kind of cool for Kelly and Val to win. It would be a way for Kelly to show all the people who said she couldn’t dance that she really can. I always love a good comeback story.

@SaraKate: I hope I get to hear Tom announce the top two by saying, “Melissa and Derek, you’re eliminated. Tony and Shawn, get to it!”

I actually watched last night and I didn’t really like Melissa’s first dance. She seemed like it was her first time dancing. All along I was thinking, this is the finals, WTF! But I can say that I did like their second dance…

Shawn should have put her foot down and said, No! We need to do this dance the right way! Derek is such a douche. He is one of the reasons I don’t watch…Way to throw that trophy away asshole! It is time for you to find something else to do…

As for Kelly and Val, I know she has lots of fans because of General Hospital. She seems to be the only one that has improved. She knows that. She knows that she has come the furthest.

I thought the freestyle dance was on the very last night, like tonight. What are they doing tonight? I can’t remember! All I know that it is 2 freaking hours long!!

@thisbuggs4u they are doing an instant dance: either a jive, samba, or cha cha depending on what they pick tonight. Wouldn’t it be funny if Melissa got the samba!

As far as the freestyles this year, none of them were memorable. It was all very predictable from all of them. Kelly and Val really should have just done it, at least then they will have done something we haven’t seen on DWTS.
