Minicap: Hell’s Kitchen

By PopePhilly | | 8:08 pm | 20 Comments

Are you kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me? That’s really all I can say after the last two episodes of “Hell’s Kitchen.”

You’re dead to me, Ramsay!

Monday night, we saw Robyn live through another elimination nomination. Now, I agree that Kimmie’s time was running out. However, I am pissed off at the WAY Gordon kicked her off. “The person leaving Hell’s Kitchen is…Robyn, back in line!” What a cocktease!

This episodes, the chefs have to compete in a tag team relay as a mini challenge. They have to cook three dishes from the regular menu: lamb, cod, and risotto. In a “Hell’s Kitchen” first, neither team receives even a single point. There are no winners and both teams take part in the punishment. Is anyone really surprised that this group has a hard time communicating?

This dinner service is special. The chefs will be competing for the coveted black jackets. There are quite a few disasters throughout this service. Diners even walk begin walking out without being served.

I’ve got quite a rant planned for you all after the last two eliminations. For now, I need a drink after just watching that.

Check back soon for the full recap!

In reality competition shows there’s usually a contestant who’s stupid, a contestant who’s delusional, and a contestant who’s crazy. I have never seen a contestant who’s all three of those things, until Robyn.

@Pope — I don’t even get upset by this show any more. Since the first season, it’s basically been “Ramsay picks a pony after the first few episodes and eliminates the rest of the people randomly”. Out of all reality shows, this one has always seemed the least “real” to me. I watch it to see Ramsay yell at some bitches, and that’s pretty much it.

Besides, it isn’t like any of these people get to be head chef of anything. They’re all vying for a $250,000 prep chef position.

    Really, Gordon, really?
Yes, I will agree that Robyn deserves a jacket – a STRAIGHT JACKET!!!

It doesn’t really matter that the Blue Team couldn’t decide who to put on the chopping block. Nominations are a JOKE.

isn’t it a bit late in the competition to be keeping people just for drama? with only 6 people left i’d like to see some actual cooking at some point.

@timgunssister: silly me :) heh, i guess i get confused because people are always complaining about the quality of the food.

lol @ all of these comments!
Honestly at this point, I expect nothing more from HK. Ive been watching it for a while, and what used to be a semi-respectible cooking show has turned into a continuous parade of batshit crazy “chefs”. I guess Im OK with that.

Christina is the only person I see winning this thing, and she deserves to. But, I bet the contract with “Chef Ramsay Steak” probably reads something like this:
    _________

“Winner of Hell’s Kitchen will become head chef of the new Gordan Ramsay Steak in the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas NV *”

    * Title of “Head Chef” applies only between the hours of 2am to 7am Tuesday and Wednesday, every other week during months containing 1 syllable. Gordan Ramsay also reserves the right to terminate “Head Chef” at any time, which could include 5 minutes after title of ‘Head Chef” is bestowed upon the winning contestant.

“what used to be a semi-respectible cooking show”

Since when? The first season was _slightly_ about the food. But since then, not so much.

Granted, the contestants have gotten worse and worse since that season, but still, this show has rarely been about the food, and certainly has never crowned a “head chef” of anything.

Interesting that, outside of two winners, nobody has been made head chef, and nobody has stayed with Ramsay for more than their contracted year: http://foodiegossip.blogspot.com/2011/09/hells-kitchen-winners-where-are-they.html

@Jimbob…..hence my carefully chosen words: USED to be a SEMI-respectible cooking show.
I agree, the first season was OK but now it’s just a freak show. A hillarious one at that.

I’m surprised the producers, FOX and Ramsay still pretend they are going to become a head chef somewhere….based on that link you sent, it’s obviously BS! I think the same thing goes for “America’s Top Model”, rarely do those girls get what’s promised to them.

I don’t have a link, but I saw an interview with Ramsay where he was asked about the winners becoming head chefs at his restaurants. Ramsay said that the interviewer was stupid if he thought that Ramsay was stupid enough to jeopardize millions of dollars in investment by putting any Hell’s Kitchen winner in charge. Why they keep up the future head chef charade is more puzzling to me than why Robyn is still in the game.

Ah, annie — didn’t realize from your comment that you were talking about that far back. Every season, it devolves into more and more of a joke, with Ramsay becoming more and more of a cartoon version of himself.

I prefer him on Masterchef and on the British Kitchen Nightmares, where, in both cases, the histrionics are kept to a minimum.

I’m sure there’s fine print in the contestant’s contracts about an equal value exchange type of thing, and as long as they get the $250,000, that is probably all that really matters to them in the end. If they were really that good of cooks they would be on Top Chef, not Hell’s Kitchen.

@ michka — Do you know when it’s airing? Fall show assignments haven’t come out yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody takes it on.

@ JimBob……no prob!! And I agree…..HK is becoming more and more of a joke. I enjoy Master Chef so much more, I think those home cooks are way more talented than these clowns.

Hell Motel!!! YES someone’s gotta recap that

I have trouble paying attention to the show since I always end up trying to copy the lipgymnastics that robyn does in her ridiculous talking heads. Virtually impossible.
