MiniCap: Person of Interest

Feeling so many feelings right now.

Getting the bad news out of the way first, but Nolan and gang may want to learn the differences between TV and film because sometimes it can feel like I’m watching a two-hour movie that’s been cut down to a 44-minute episode. A ton of great scenes with little segue. Also, no Fusco. And no, mentioning him doesn’t count. Couldn’t he at least walk through a scene like he’s Waldo?

But the good outweighed the structural issues because Finch is dealing with his own big bad in the form of a lady hacker who set up a honey pot (heh) for him and he fell right into it. Forced him out of cozy lair and into the streets where he had to buy a disposable cell and work on a laptop in a *gaspshockhorror* public library. But she has really pretty hair and a bitching manicure so I’m sure she’s a worthy adversary.

And Reese gets to over-identify with another number, only this time not because of some deeply-seated wounds they share but because the number, Scott Powell has a seemingly simple, loving, working-class life that Reese misses never having. After nearly getting Powell killed, because the Machine may be infallible but Reese and Finch aren’t, Reese goes all guardian/avenging angel making sure he’s safe and getting prettily glassy-eyed in the process. Because by now we all know what Nolan thinks his bread and butter is. Not that I’m arguing.

Throw in Finch learning that stakeouts are not the place for a man of refined tastes such as himself, Reese learning that Finch is way nerdier than he ever suspected, Zoe proving that if there’s a man within fifty feet of her, she will spark off him like there’s no tomorrow, marginalizing Carter to the point that Reese actually hung up on her when she asked him a question and OMG!!!! that last scene, and despite its Swiss cheese like plotting, it was an exciting and emotionally satisfying episode.

Full recap in a few days. Until then, you can catch up on the last recap here.

Loved the first scene where Finch interrupted Reese doing his badassery and Reese tried to carry on a conversation while hanging off a 400-pound behemoth’s back. Even if Reese weren’t cooler than an ice floe, I’d watch for scenes like that.

Lots to love about Root Cause, but do wish they had spread it over 2 eps. The use of Zoe was a nice touch and awesome delivery on “If you are going to do bad, do it right”.
Fusco was missed, but despite the truck-sized plotholes it was a very intense episode.
