WE ARE ALMOST CAUGHT UP WITH THE SEASON WOOOOOO!!!
It’s finally here – the episode where we see the emotional strain that comes from being in a plural family. It’s not all pool parties and hanging out with Theo, people. It’s hard work. It’s so hard that this episode gets it’s own title screen:

Guess what – being a sister wife is not all it’s cracked up to be – when he’s not in your home (bed), you can’t help but think about what kind of “fun” he’s having without you. Maybe I live in the gutter, but for me “fun” means “doing it”, which is exactly what I would be torturing myself with.
The reality is that living in four houses has made it real that they are not just a family, they are FOUR WOMEN WITH ONE HUSBAND. They miss him, they miss each others’ kids, but I haven’t heard anyone go on about how much they miss having their sister wives around. Interesting…
Christine is tired of feeling like she’s not special anymore. Meri doesn’t want to work for a family business; she wants to have a job working with at risk youth. Robin wants them to be the family she signed on for, not this fractured mess of angsty teens and jealous women. Kody never felt like he was abandoning his family when they all lived in the giant poly-motel.
Oh, we also learn the gender of Robin’s baby. I know that you were all tossing and turning over it. The family is 50/50 on whether they want a boy or a girl. It’s a boy!!! After this episode, I’ve decided that if I had to pick a house to live in, I would live at Christine’s house because it seems to be the most lively and fun.
I’m looking forward to your thoughts about this episode, and I’ll have the full recap for you later this week!
If you like it, spread it!:

The Four Lives of Kody Brown. In one life, he’s a test pilot! In another, he’s an underwater adventure seeker! In a third, he’s schtupping Halle Berry while they wage a sexy, two-person war against the Islamic Jihad For the Stomping Out of Godless Polygamy.
But, sadly, in each life, he still has the same douchey hair.
You chose to go on TV and publicize your polygamousness, you brought the law on yourself, you chose to flee the state rather than face prosecution for breaking a stupid law (seriously, Utah? Cohabitating is illegal? Would you go after Jack Tripper, Janet Wood and Chrissy Snow/Cindy Snow/Terri Whateverhernamewas?).
You’re right – I totally should feel sorry for you, your kids certainly shouldn’t resent you and your wives should shut up and go make you a turkey pot pie. What was I thinking?
And by the way – it isn’t that I’m against polygamy. Do what you want, you aren’t hurting me any. However, I am against you DoucheDad. Because you are a douche.
Please don’t use the term “sexy” and Kody Brown in the same sentence. I’m sure it’s like time traveling and meeting yourself in the past. Could possibly destroy the very fabric of time and space itself if someone actually considered that guy….well…the “s” word. I don’t think his wives can even say that with a straight face! He reminds me of a cross between a Canadian hockey player and Billy Ray Cyrus.
I don’t feel sorry for him but I don’t think it’s fair they had to move when anybody that ever hooked up in Utah could get busted for their same crime.
Don’t get me wrong – I think the law is completely stupid. Anyone should get to marry or live with whoever they want and if they want to marry or live with 3, 4, 18 consenting adults, go nuts. I do think they should have stayed and fought that law because it is so stupid and isn’t being applied consistently instead of fleeing the state in the dead of night (or what ended up being the dead of night with all the tire troubles).
I also have a feeling that the police and county prosecutor knew all about them before they went on TV…but they were quiet, they kept to themselves and “The Law” lived and let live. Once they brought the spotlight on themselves, “The Law” had to do something to appease the Utahnians that would be all up in arms about it. Sure there was an investigation, but then there would probably be nothing to come of it. If there was something, they would still be at risk of being arrested in Nevada so I don’t think it was necessary to “go on the lam”.
Chicken Lips,
Perhaps Kody wanted to flit from bed to bed and house to house? Maybe living with all of them under the same roof was too much for the poor fellow; so he thought that this would be a perfect solution, he could run home to his wife if shit got too deep with his wife? lol
On the other hand, and I wonder about this, he may have fallen a tiny bit too much in love with this new wifeypoo. When I saw them on the Anderson show the wives weren’t as expressive about her as they were about each other. Then again, I don’t know much about matters of the heart when it entails giving it away so easily, so they may have been normal for people that don’t mind sharing their heart, or body fluids second hand…
I don’t understand the “investigation” or the families need to act like it’s a big deal. Polygamy is against the law, however DoucheDad ISN’T legally married all these woman. He is legally married to wifey #1, but only had Commitment Ceremonies with the others. Therefore, no true polygamy and no laws broken. Case closed.
I think it’s natural that Meri, Christine and Janelle appear closer or more expressive about each other as they have been sister wives for a long time – 17 years? 16 years? Robin is still really new to the family, and I imagine it takes a long time for everyone to get used to the change. That being said, it really does seem like Kody is more “into” Robin. It has got to be really uncomfortable to watch them go through their honeymoon phase while the others are struggling to deal with having to move and provide emotional support for 16 children who are also trying to adapt to all of the change and upheaval.
I don’t know enough about the laws in Utah, but from what they were saying in Season 2, it sounds like the state has broken up other polygamist families and I can’t imagine that they were legally married to all of their wives either. I’m curious as to what drew them to Nevada – why not Wyoming, or Colorado, or Montana? It seems that those states would have been an easier adjustment for the kids.
I understand that too, Lady Baldy..I don’t know, it just seemed like the air was sucked out when Anderson brought her up and they Skyped her. The change in posture and body language was noticeable.
Looking forward to your next installment. You are certainly a great addition to TVGasm
Robin
OK here’s proof I think about these shows way too much but I actually looked some of this shit up when it all started and @kittkatt is right.
When they 1st said they were going to Nevada, some official or something from there went on TMZ and said all this stuff.
But they worded it in a tricky way. And you can google around and find people who are so mad about it (which is why I totally believe they investigated the shit out of them) but:
It turns out unless they get legally married to more than 1 person, or try to, or say they are it doesn’t even COUNT as polygamy. And they have to say legally married, just saying they’re married according to their religion doesn’t count.
And the people that are mad say the problem with Nevada is that they have laws about property etc but they don’t count it as a crime to have sex with somebody you’re not married to. Utah does though. So that was the big difference for Captain Creamsicle.
@LadyBaldy As far as I can when they arrested people if it wasn’t about the underage girls and beating people up etc it was when they did say they were legally married, usually lying about it filling out forms for insurance and taxes and stuff. But Captain C and his non legal wives didn’t ever do any of that.
okay guys, I’m thinking that since law doesn’t recognize their marriages, then three of the wives are considered single moms and qualify for goverenment assistance. Do you seriously not think they take advantage of that if there is any way possible they could get assistance? All because Kody does not want to hear the word “no”. If Merri tells him “not tonight”, he simply goes to the next house and so on.
@Lisa That’s 1 of the ways they busted some of Juniper Creekys. But Captain C and them say they didn’t ever get welfare.
When the show 1st started that got talked about a lot and there’s no way we can find out for sure if they ever got any but if they’d lied about anything to get it you know Utah would’ve been all over it like red on a monkey’s ass.
The people that are the maddest at them said from the very beginning that was 1 of the biggest problems.
They were thinking they could get them locked up for welfare fraud easy but it turns out they didn’t do any.
What I can’t figure out though is where they get all the $!
LOL I read on some blog that it had to be that it came from his sales job he had and he must be super good because he got 4 women to buy the idea that God wanted them all to share him and be his babymamas!
@kitkatt – In Utah, that’s still bigamy, even if they’re not legally married.
If you go back and watch some of the episodes when Robin first came on, Meri had said that she found Robin, and thought Robin would be a good fit for the family.
Christene said that she WANTED to be the third wife. Well third isn’t looking so good to you know, does it?! If anything, I could see Christene being the one to leave first. Meri I don’t think she would being for the fact that they are legally married. I don’t remember what the Mormon faith thinks of divorce…
I also remember from last season, one of the kids needed her appendix out. They didn’t have insurance for that specific kid, so they had to pay out of pocket, and they were still paying the hospital bills off. Ok here is a question. If Christene was the only one that did not work, couldn’t she have asked for assistance? I know they say that they didn’t.
Looking forward to your full Recap LadyBaldy!!
“Oh, we also learn the gender of Robin’s baby. I know that you were all tossing and turning over it. The family is 50/50 on whether they want a boy or a girl. It’s a boy!!!”
Maybe it’s a regional thing but this made me crazy whenever the wives talked about finding out the sex of the baby they used the phrase “Find out or not if it’s a boy or a girl” which makes no sense because hopefully it’s one or the other!
I don’t understand all the angst about living in 4 separate houses. If they have enough money for 4 houses, how do they not have enough money for one big one? Surely they build mansions in Nevada. It’s not like they’re trying to hide the fact that they’re a polygomous family by keeping all the wives and kids in 4 separate homes.
I feel sorry for the kids, but I don’t have a lot of pity for the adults. They made these choices, so why whine about the consequences?
The Utah laws are completely ridiculous, and they affect everyone, not just polygamists. It’s illegal to co-habit there, which means living together as a committed COUPLE if you are not married. Utah considers Kody a bigamist because he has committed relationships with multiple women – they count “spiritual unions” there.
If it were legal to make your own choices as a consenting adult, doesn’t it seem like it would be a lot easier to make laws that would prevent welfare fraud? Just sayin’…
There’s not a box to make comments on the whole recap. At least not for me and since there are 0 comments and it’s such a popular show I’m guessing it’s not just me.
If somebody with powers sees this please fix it?
