Snakes! Not on a plane!
Ah, pageant moms…what would we do without them? This week on Toddlers & Tiaras we head to Arkansas for the “Me and My Pet Pageant and Clusterf#ck Extravaganza” and it does not disappoint.
First up is Karley, 6, and her mother Crystal. Karley and her mom have a great relationship, they are normal except for one thing – Karley’s love of their pet snake Slither! Actually, that’s pretty cool too. Karley has a lot of confidence, enjoys too many Pixie Stix and lets her snake have the run of Barbie’s Dream House. That never would have happened to my Barbie, but it makes for some interesting furniture rearranging. Watch out Ken! Karley kicks ass onstage and despite my concern about her short hair (no fall?), she does very well.
Second is Kali, 5, and her mother Chante. Kali is the second kid in as many weeks to do karate and she’s already a yellow belt! She has a lot of confidence and silver teeth – are those braces or some kind of grill for little kids? I got kind of confused during the show, but I did watch it before the sun was up. Chante says they have never won a big title so they’re sure they’ll get one this time. Not sure on that logic. They bring their dog Buster who is the grumpiest old man you’ll ever see. His growling was deep for such a little dog and I’m shocked a pageant girl didn’t get attacked. Poor dog just wants to sleep!
And finally are our reasons for living (or at least watching this show), twins Giavanna and Alycesaundra (not the first kid named Alycesaundra on this show if you can believe it!). Hooooly shit, where to start with these two? Mom says she has one good kid (Aly) and one brat (Giavanna), so you know how this is sort of going to go down. Mom has spent half a million dollars on pageants for these two four-year-olds, and you know that is money well spent. From an $8000 dress to a tour bus with the girls’ pictures all over it to a bodyguard that I am pretty sure is on the FBI’s most wanted list, they really know how to invest their hard-earned cash. Read that last sentence again to let the absolute insanity completely sink in. And now that makes the fact that they bring a turkey and – gasp! – the wrong lamb to the pageant kind of boring. Needless to say, Giavanna f#cks up royally and Alycesaundra is sick, so it turns out to be a most excellent day for Gasmii viewers/readers. For the girls’ parents, not so much, but remember – their teen years will be a bloody nightmare for anyone who knows them. Heh.
The biggest loser in this pageant? The housekeeping staff. Something leaves droppings all over the hotel room – floor, bed and God know’s where else – making bed bugs seem like a distant memory. The upside is that no one brought a pet SQUID, although I think we all know where we could get one.

WOW! I thought those were braces too until at the very end I realized that they were tiny silver stars, one for each little tooth. I’m thinking flipper?
Granted, Giavanna was a handful, but how much is nature and how much is Mommy Dearest putting her down? I’d whine too if my favored sister got the cute little lamb and I got set up for failure with a turkey. And then they brought the wrong damn lamb!!!! Priceless!

I assumed the silver was caps. Like they give little kids with cavities (why fill baby teeth?). I had a mouth full of silver as a kid and was always super embarrassed about it do I was happy to see her confidence. Also I felt bad for little Giovanna, her mother obviously favors the other one. Why would you force a turkey on her? Basically the grossest, ugliest, animal they had.
Alycesaundra – Sweet jesus, it’s the “letters as currency” rule of white trash baby naming: The more letters you squeeze into your kid’s name, the more she’s worth….”
When a mom calls one twin by name, and the other one “the other one,” you know you’re on T&T!
So…half a mil on pageants and they live…there??? You know you could buy a sweet house for that, right?

Karley was nice, but she reminded me of a kid a few episodes back (Elvis routine) who just seemed way too “on” in a way that creeps me out even more than the brats! Also, I missed the preview, I think. Is this the last episode of the season?
I’m imagining Giavanna and Ashlyn Sterling in 20 years teaming up as female serial killers…all the victims will inexplicably be mothers of twins…..
A new day… A new recap. I though Kali had braces as well. I think what happened was that Kali spent the first few years going to sleep with a bottle of milk in her mouth and killed her front teeth. The silver caps are there until her permanent teeth come in. It happens a lot. The ped doctors warn against sleeping with the bottle because the sugar in the milk rot the teeth. Kali had the personality and looks to rock those caps. I am sure that Mickie Wood is kicking herself for not thinking of it first. If she had Eden really could have been Sparkle Baby.
Dear lord, if that’s the case they should use that kid in PSAs for baby bottle rot. If that doesn’t convince you, nothing will. She should be using her pageant money to get the kid better cosmetic dentistry then. She rocked the grill, but if she still has that when she starts school….yikes!
She will have them until those baby teeth fall out.
Poor Giavanna, I see a forced life on the farm with her bodyguard/ future husband Carl. Btw I could watch him all day… From a distance.

I think that TLC should follow Carl for a day. I thought mom Kelly said that each girl had her own bodyguard. Did I hear that wrong? Or does Carl have a split personality and each twin gets one of them. Of course that would mean that Carl had to HAVE a personalty to begin with. I think that TLC should have a new docu-series consisting of the chick from Katies Kuties training Carl on his social skills.
The mother of the twins, Kelly, must love attention……..she was also on the A&E show “Monsters-in-Law”. (and yes, I hate myself for recognizing her!)
Her mother was kinda annoying and Kelly played the “helpless” daughter. After last night’s “Toddlers” episode I can see her true colors and what a nasty person she really is inside. Her husband offered $100k to the mother if she would just go away. The whole family seemed a mess. That bus what a complete pedophile magnet, the “body guard” was creepy and who the hell spends $8k on a dress for a 4 year old?

Closet, I also heard that there was one bodyguard for each twin. Oh last night’s epi was just so amazing.
Kali’s mom was waaaaaaay too proud of that silver for it to be anything but a grill. And from the looks of her pageant outfit, I don’t thing I’m too far from the frame of mind that spawned that idea.
The judges wish that Kali had incorporated the dog more into the routine. How the hell do you do that with martial arts?

I was really disappointed with the twins h&m and performance on stage. Mom is a coach who does h&m and the girls were total duds who did not look put together. I suspect a lot of vendors do this show to help drum up business for themselves, but this episode was more of a what not to do.

Which twin was in the red dress and was up on stage and you could tell she didn’t give a an eff to be there? She was cute just standing there. Her face showed it all! Loved her red dress. She was cute in her pilgrum outfit too. But really, a turkey?!? I would have rather taken one of the chickens up there!
Buster, what a mean old bastard dog! Those dogs do get grumpy with age. One of my gf’s had a Shitzu when we were little, Chuck was a mean bastard when he got older. That is basically what he would do if you tried to pick him up or pet him. He would growl then try to bite your hand off!

I know the twins are super famous and all because mom said so. During last nights love fest for all things squid either PG or PM mentioned that they know (or know of) Kelly and the girls so maybe one of them can shed some light on how they normally do on stage. Personally I think that with all things considering they acted like typical 4 year olds when they are overwhelmed. One was sick, one had the wrong lamb, their tour bus broke down which I am sure was a huge cluster you know what. They probably did not get much sleep and the crowd and all of the animals were just too much. I have said previously that this is way too much to put on a 4 year old and that sometimes they are going to act their age instead of like a trained seal. I don’t know what sort of “contract” they signed but if one of my children were sick and miserable I would tell T & T that my child is not going on stage. Period. Kelly said her daughter was either really sick or very sick yet instead of keeping her in bed she put her on stage. If she was not that sick then why say it, to prove what a trooper she is? All it did was make her look like a cold hearted bitch.
I do know that family. Kelly is actually really nice, though one of those blunt-almost-to-the-point-of-being-rude types of people who say what they’re thinking, and don’t always think it through first. Her girls (both of them) are very spoiled (not in a bad way– there is discipline in that family) and she really does not favor one over the other. Alycesaundra (these kids have been in the background A LOT on T&T, so when you’ve seen that particular alphabet smorgasborg, it’s probably been her. Mom was previously seen as the coach/h-m lady for Anniston in an early episode. Giavanna normally does fairly well on stage, but she is a shy, reserved kid, and probably could really take or leave the pageant thing. I don’t think I”ve ever seen a prettier child, though. Alycesaundra is a bubbly, goofy kid who just oozes personality– I think she really was sick, but she’s also the kind of kid that if you had told her “sorry, you’re sick, you’re not going on”, she’d have had a fit. I don’t think they actually showed the outside of their home at all– The building I recall seeing is not their house, which is huge.
I LOVED Kali’s mom’s attitude about the silver teeth– way to not make her feel self-conscious about it. Loved Karley’s family, too, though I wish she’d have stopped strangling that poor snake.
I think that possibly buster was crated during filming to keep the film crew safe– they mention that he doesn’t like strangers.
I’m speechless, all I can think of to say about train wreck of a episode is WTFH is up this mom’s?

Oh, and I totally agree with the “sometimes they act their age instead of a trained seal” thing.. We were at a pageant recently, and one of the kids competing was a young toddler/baby. This is one of the kids who generally really loves the stage (obviously she is too young to “get it”, but from her perspective, there are shiny things everywhere, and people are looking at her and telling her how pretty she is– what’s not to like? lol), but on this particular day, the front of the stage was lined with balloons, which she found irresistable. by the end of “beauty”, she had torn most of them off the stage, and threw a HUGE tantrum when told to stop. It happens. I get the feeling that Aly and Gia were just really overwhelmed. Were it me, I’d have given Gia first pick of which pet to use, since Aly would probably be happy with anything, but they may already have had the outfits made, and Gia is smaller than Aly.
I loved Karly and Kali I thought they were funny, cute and sweet. I’m not afraid of snakes so watching her boolove all over Slither was adorable to me. I had a serious giggle when she said they lost his crown:). The two K’s did their jobs and I thought they did quite well. I’d bet Buster would be so mean if they didn’t keep him locked up in a carrier. I hate people who lock their animals away instead of taking the time to train them. Yes, those silver caps are the result of bottle mouth she may have been allowed to go to bed with a bottle(PARENTS STOP THIS PRACTICE). I am happy her mother raised her to be proud of her caps instead of her being ashamed. Kali oozes with self confidence(way to go parents). Did she really refer to her daughter as…the other one and ‘her’. I felt so bad for Aladinosaur she was soooo sick they should have had dad stay in the room with her so she could rest

@PG I have to say that I do not understand the “spoiled” mentality. You wrote that you have observed that they are spoiled but not in a bad way. I disagree. They may not understand $8,000 for the cost of a dress now but they will soon in the future. The family is free to spend their money and how much of it anyway the want. But and it is a big but… even if they can afford to and choose to give the girls everything that they want for the rest of their lives the rest of the world can’t and won’t. The girls are going to have a difficult time with that as they get older. If you are given your own bus at the age of 4 years old when most 4 year old a getting Barbie’s Dream Bus what do you give a 13 year old? I do not agree with the just because you can you should with children.
@dallasboo – you’re not alone, I recognized them too! As soon as I saw the husband/father I realized where I knew them from. I was just coming on to post – you beat me to it. I totally agree about the wife e two totally different personalities. When she said they’re ferternal (sic) twins BUT they have two totally different personalities, I rolled my eyes.

And this. My kids did not have ‘fits” because I did not allow it. Kids have fits when they know that if they cry or scream for long enough they will get what they want. My three tried it once or twice then realized that it is never going to happen because I was NEVER going to give in and that ended that behavior as fast as it started.
Also, who is the parent the mom or the 4 year old. As parents we are the ones in charge and sometimes we have to make the tough call resulting in our child not doing something because they are sick for example.
PG I am not picking on you. Really, I am not. You are just relaying information. I am just so tired of these parents who don’t parent.
My theory is if you have it, it’s yours, do what you want with it. My only gripe, really, is expecting a child to do better on stage because you paid for the over-priced dress. The girls are 4. They didn’t ask for the bazillion-dollar dress, Mom chose to buy it. Personally, even if we could afford it (we can’t), I wouldn’t be puchasing an $8,000 dress, or even a $1,000 dress. We spent about $600 on my granddaughter’s dress (I stoned most of it myself, which cut down on the cost a lot). She does really well in it, and normally supremes, even at big southern nationals. I make most of her other outfits myself. Anyway, my point was that there really isn’t a favored child in that family, and Kelly (while a little high-strung, and very blunt) really is a good mom. her kids normally do well on stage, though aly loves it more than gia, because Gia is shy, while Aly is just kind of “all over the place”. The “bodyguard” guy cracked me up. Probably the best moment of the show.

I think that the producers know that after the Sterling twins fallout that twin favortism is ratings gold. I really did not get that feeling. I think that it was the way it was portrayed. And the “other one” comment, again golden. They want us to talk about it and we are. I think that it was the end of the long day and at that point Kelly did not know her own name. I have three and during Christmas with them plus other family we had a fun household that by dinner time I was calling the adults, you adult, please pass the potatoes and the kids either girl or boy.
I agree to a point that if you have do what you want with it. I love those shows that display someones million dollar walk in closet. Listening to someone discuss their $200,000 sock organizer from Italy cracks me up. But when it comes to children it is different. I grew up in a very affluent area. My friends (like myself who worked my butt off at the mall for my $1,300 1973 baby) who had to buy their own cars when they got their license treated those cars with so much respect. 9 out of 10 of my friends who were given Porches and Z28′s and Vettes crashed their car within the first 6 months. They just didn’t care as much because they new that their parents would pay to fix their car or replace it. I just see Kelly with that puzzled look on her face in about 10 years wondering what she did wrong when nothing or none can make the girls happy.

- i wanted to say thanks for the behind the scene information. i know that tlc plays fast and loose with the editing sometimes, so it’s always good to get a more personal perspective. doesn’t stop the snark at all! but i still enjoy hearing both sides.

I’m not buying the ‘Kelly really is a good Mom’ talk. She CLEARLY favors one child over another and if she thinks the kids aren’t aware of it, she’s wrong. Everyone and his brother (or husband) was to blame for her children’s lackluster performances though she did place some blame on Gia, who obviously wanted to be anywhere but there.
Spending outrageous amounts of money on a child doesn’t make you a good parent. Not being able to remember or say one of your children’s names (no matter how long your day has been, really) does not make you a good parent. Saying (or broadly hinting) that one child has a personality and the other does not doesn’t make you a good parent. To me, she’s a worse parent than the ones who yell at their kids or dress them in hooker costumes and the other weirdness we’ve seen on these shows. When a parent makes it acutely obvious that one child os more important then another (and more inportant than Dad, too), she is setting up one or both children for serious mental health issues in the future.
You can see deep sincere love for a child from the way a parent speaks to their child, holds their child, speaks about them, on and on. I saw none of that from Kelly, even toward the obviously favored one. And I would NEVER let my spouse speak to me the way she did her husband nor would I speak to my husband the way she did hers. This woman clearly has her own set of issues and all that money would be much better spent on some family therapy.
Most of these nutjob parents don’t get under my skin so I rarely comment but this woman needs some help and so does her poor family.

I just have to say that though I felt bad for Gia during beauty because she was not happy, she looked adorable with what my family calls her boo-boo face. Seriously too cute. And I want that buggy that Aly had during outfit of choice/animal wear/talent! I want that.
The other Alycesaundra that Dear Crabby was referring to was on last season. Very pretty girl with a Jersey mom. It was their first glitz pageant. I would like to see her again, she was a sweetie.
TimGunn– you are certainly welcome to your opinion, and I might have the same opinion if I was forming it based solely on 44 minutes of TLC editing gold. I have the advantage of knowing the family, and can form a more educated assessment with that info.
I think we are all aware of the ‘artful’ editing they do on this and well, every reality show. But they cannot put words in people’s mouths. They can’t put an expression of disdain on someone’s face that isn’t there. Glad you know them personally and feel they got a bad edit. But then, I’ve never called my husband an idiot in front of our son, much less the general public so I’m just not convinced it’s all editing. Maybe we’ll see them again and I’ll feel differently. But for now, I feel sorry for anyone who has to spend much time around this woman and her delusions of grandeur. A private tour bus and bodyguards? Really?
I wish parents would walk away when their kids start to melt down. I can understand how hard it is when you’ve driven 6 hours, paid for a hotel and entry fees but we are raising a generation of brats. This is not something that just happens at pageants though, I’ve seen it at sporting events, dance competitions and school events. It’s generational and epidemic.
Every kid has an off day, but if you cave once the little buggers will know you are weak and will use it to their advantage.

My dad had a favorite child, and it wasn’t me. It didn’t bother me too much because I had a favorite parent, and it wasn’t him.
That is why I love this site because it is interesting to me that though we all watch the same show we see things differently. I grew up in a big Catholic family. Itilian on one side and Irish on the other. Sunday dinners sometimes consisted of 12 kids under the age of 15. Everyone was called the wrong name. We still laugh about it today. If someone did not have that experience then I can understand why the name thing would be an issue. I personally did not see it that way because of my life experience.
Pageant grandma this is what I am referring too. You are a hypocrite. It’s ok for this mom to be a horrible mom and her daughter stand on stage and stare and show developmental problems and the mom to be crazy but it’s ok because it’s all editing. What bothers me the most is not that that woman spent $8,000 on a dress but that she spent $8,000 on a dress and it wasn’t being worn for beauty. What’s the point of spending that kind of cash if your kid isn’t being judged in it.
For the love of God shut up already and stop ragging on PG. Where did you get that her grandaughter never wins? If you read her posts (which involves reading so that may be the issue) she has stated that her grandaughter has received Princess through Supreme. She has also said that like any other child it depends on the day. You are the hypocrite, not PG. You wrote yesterday that you would never say anything negative about a child right before you bashed Sami Jo and now you are bashing the twins. And I would not consider a $600 dress for a hobby “cheap”. There is nothing wrong with making or adding to the dress if you know what you are doing and do a good job. Mom Beth was on here recently and she makes all of her daughter’s outfit and with the exception of one that I did not care for she does a beautiful job. And the reason PG did not say that autism or something similar caused the girls to not perform well on stage was because they did not act developmentally inappropriate like some other children we have seen.
Lay off of pageant-grandma, who I love. Pageant grandma is a voice of reason in the T&T world, a view that that hasn’t been edited to try and elicit a certain reaction. I have no doubt that Kelly is a very manipulative woman. I can see that by looking at who she married and how she put down the man who is obviously generously bankrolling this whole thing. He seemed like a nice man, but he has let her put his #*t’s in a vice. But let’s be honest, that doesn’t make her a bad person, just one who knows how to get her way. Gia is a stunningly beautiful child, to be sure. Both girls do a fair amount of pro modeling, as well, and are awesome at it. When one of the biggest gripes about pageantry in general is “how much these crazy mothers spend”, I am grateful that I have the advantage of being able to keep my granddaughter outfitted in competitive attire, and not have to mortgage my house (or pimp out my dog, as the case may be) to pay for it. I didn’t love Karley’s dress. I’m not sure what it was about it that I didn’t like– the sleeves and neckline, I think. I would have loved to see Kali in a brighter color, but she rocked the yellow, too (and not many kids can, to be honest).

The twins are cute, I think “stunningly beautiful” is a bit much. Sure, if it’s your money, spend it. But unless you’re Buffett rich, (which you probably are not if your brand new tour bus breaks down) the wise thing to do would be to buy a nice $1200 dress and sock away for college, retirement, illness, injury, etc. It seems like the difference between different classes of people with lots of money is the ability to not let it burn a hole in your pocket. Stop asking pageant grandma questions because she is clueless. Clothes are judged and judges can tell if you have on a mommy made dress or if a good dress maker made it or if it’s from china. They score the fit of clothes, the look of clothes, basically the better the clothe the better the score. If you have a child do great on stage and have a cheap china dress on score low in attire and a child do ok on stage and score perfect in attire the kid with better clothes will win. Just like good pictures and not cheap glitz pictures make a huge difference in winning when it’s part of your total score.

So where were we? I am not a fan of snakes but I loved Karley outfit and routine. Too cute! I don’t like the ripping off of the skirt though. Coach Katie had Daisey Mae do the same and I believe it is wrong on so many levels. Otherwise I like the rountines that she comes up with.
There is definitely a level of spending that won’t help if the kid isn’t into it, and I have seen kids in lower glitz dresses pull huge titles if everything else is spot on. I bought my granddaughter’s dress from a well-known designer, as “low glitz”. I can get better prices on stones than she does, and I don’t charge myself for the hours spent individually gluing them all on. It allowed her to have a mega-glitz dress for the price of a low-glitz. That, in turn, is money I can spend on creating her outfits of choice (which have never got less than perfect attire scores). I am a seamstress and designer. It’s what I do for a living. We do her hair and makeup ourselves, as well, because her mom is a pro makeup artist.
Jennifer, during your episode, I remember thinking that Camarie was totally robbed. SamiJo didn’t do anything on stage but stand there!
Don’t let the autistic comments irk you. My youngest didn’t talk until she was 3 years old; she screamed instead. And she liked to run away from me in public places. I’m sure my neighbors would have loved to have given me armchair diagnoses. She’s nearly 14 now and ready to go to high school in the fall. She is a completely different person than she was ten years ago. Your sweet little Camarie will grow out of her stage too.
If pageants were all about who spent the most money, I wouldn’t bother putting her on stage. I’d just stand there myself and open my wallet. Lol. Absolutely, money plays a role– you have to have a good glitz dress to “go glitz”. But a good dress that doesn’t fit well (too big, like the kiddo from last week’s episode, too short in the bodice, like shian, or side seams that aren’t, well, on the side) isn’t going to score as well as a less glitzy dress that fits.
I am happy that T & T, RHONJ and Eden’s World have been good this week. I have been on my back since Sunday and not in a good way. My older son who has significant disabilities had a seizure Saturday right after dinner. I was helping him up the stairs, got to the top and fell backwards. Thank God he was not holding on to me. spent the night in the ER with a nasty concussion. So PG I have been googling pageant stuff but just keep pulling up pageants. I get the basics between high glitz and natural as per make up, tan, etc… But what about the clothes? What do they wear in natural? Are the prizes, money, crowns better in glitz?

I read about one family that rents the dresses which to me makes sense if you want a new dress for every pageant.

Team Pageant Grandma!
When an outfit has been outgrown, or we won’t be using it for any other purpose, we sell it. Not that it deserves an answer, but not all designers sew dresses (most of the “big name” designers don’t do any of the sewing themselves at all). A well made dress shell takes a long time to make, and I prefer not to do it. My designing strength, and where I find the most fulfillment, is in doing casualwears, swimwears, and outfits of choice.
Jennifer – let me try to give you some sincere advice. No one is going to take you seriously if you continue to name-call and insult everyone. A lot of people on here disagree, but they do it respectfully and without calling each other appalling names. I know you felt insulted, but if you just respectfully stated your opinion, with or without poor spelling and grammar, everyone here would be accepting and nice to you. And please try to remember, this is a SNARK site. Their whole purpose is to poke fun and be, well, SNARKY. People who come on here and comment enjoy and appreciate SNARK. If it offends you, the best thing to do is not to come on here and read the recaps and comments. Again, this advice is being given free of charge with absolutely no hidden agenda.
Carl was interesting. I just remembered the bus. Did you see the inside of that bus? That is traveling in style. I do not like the pictures of the girls on the bus. T & T have featured a few other families that have pictures of their children on their vans or buses. There are some crazy people out there and I would not want to advertise my children and wear they live. Years ago my in laws found a site that sells stamps with pics of your kids on them. I told them I appreciated that they were thinking of the kids but I did not want their pics and address for the world to see.

We have a ball python, and I loved that routine (except the stripping part! Coach Katie, STOP doing that!!). The kungfu panda routine was cute, but did miss the mark some on integrating the pet (though since they were working with, as mom put it, a cranky old man, that mighthave been the best they could do.)
When I read what you wrote about decorating the dress I thought about the Gypsy shows. A recent one showed a dressmaker and her crew bringing (I am trying to type bling with an ing but my iPad autocorrect won’t allow it) and I thought about the patience involved. I wish that they snarked that show here, that would be a fun one to discuss.

My granddaughter’s dress came “low glitz” (which that designer describes as 5 gross (about 700). It has well over triple that, now, each one individually attached. That is time-consuming enough without fighting with making miles of ruffles.
I know the autistic convo was on yesterday’s thread but I wrote out a comment on my kindle Fire and the page crashed, so I said eff it. But I wanted to recommend one of my fav documentaries called Autism, the Musical. The way the parents, especially the mom, rally around their children is heart warming. And the way the program is dedicated to building skills and confidence of autistic children by casting them in a musical is nothing short of inspirational.
Hey Closet Fan, I’m terrified of snakes even on TV, not sure where it comes from but I am. It probably watch this episode with my feet under me and checking under the couch…I know it’s weird but I’m really terrified of them and from what I read about it going through the doll house all I can say is OMG! It had about 700 stones on it when it arrived. It’s got about triple that now. Sounds like a lot, but most of the stones are quite small, with a few big “chunky” stones. I don’t like to have my granddaughter out there looking like a human disco ball. Including the stones I purchased to add on (which range from $6-$30 per gross (144 stones per gross), I spent about $600 on the dress. The designer would have charged over $1000 if I had had those stones added by her.

Dear God. I have not seen it but from your description that sounds like the scariest episode of this show yet. They make the other twin rich pageant girls Scarlett and Isabella look normal from your description.
What is up with twins and over the top pageants?! I possibly might have done natural pageants if I had a daughter but when I found out I was having twins, I was like nevermind. Twins are hard enough just getting through your day to day damn life. Adding pageants to it!? Oh hell to the no! I was just trying to keep them alive at that point.
Closet– it’s labor and the sheer cost of the hardware. Stones are expensive. If you figure even $15 per gross (144 stones), a high-glitz dress for a baby is going to have 10 gross. The bigger the kid, the bigger the dress, the more stones you have to have on it. A high-glitz dress for, say, a 10 year old will have some 30 gross of stones (over 4,000 stones) on it, and each one of those is set, by hand. It takes FOREVER. The “cupcake’ skirts have yards and yards and yards of fabric in them, which has to be serged on both edges, then ruffled, then attached to the liner fabric. Many dresses are custom dyed. It sounds like crazy prices, but really, it’s not when you factor in the labor.
You can get “bottle rot” without actual bottles. I know a little boy who nursed off and on all night long when they did the bed sharing thing and apparently it rotted his teeth. He was using the breastfeeding as like a security thing. He had to have them capped. He was 2. Just a little fact I would throw out since people were mentioning bottle rot.
I am told it happens more with bottle babies, because they tend to fall asleep with it still in their mouths, and it then drips on their teeth all night. It’s worse for the kids who are given juice in said bottle.
J-Lo …… Camarie is a beautiful little girl and I know that you love her dearly. From the outside looking in she has a void in her eye that appears like she is having a problem getting a read on her environment. Maybe nothing other then age but get her tested to make sure that she is at the stage she should be. Could be as simple as glasses or nothing at all. She is a darling and did well on stage but it might be time to take a break. It is not worth you getting so upset with the posts and I sure that you have higher desires for Camarie then T & T. I was blown away by the mom who was willing and happy to spend a half a mill on her four year olds. Yes, it’s their money and they can do what they want with it but if that amount is true, I don’t see their cash lasting very long. That’s just a case of more money than brains.
I was taught that after a bottle any bottle you are suppose to wipe their mouths out afterwards with a clean cloth. I dunno bottle/breast rot for any reason besides weak teeth is due to parental laziness. PG I’ve seen people give their babies kool-aid in their bottles…just sad. PG I thought it was bad paying 200 for my daughters dance costumes, you guys have me beat by a long shot.
Yep, giving your child/baby any kind of bottle or sippy cup to take to bed with them is bad unless all that is in there is water. My kids only drink milk and water till they were about 3. Then I allowed them the occasional lemonade or kool aid or juice. I don’t get these parents giving kids coke. OMG like I need my kids more hyper than they already are!

i loved seeing the ball python! We have one at my work. He is a sweetheart (but he can also be a snot). My facebook profile photo is Reggie slithering up in my hair. Balls are great snakes, pretty even tempered and they don’t get that big. I, too, made a bit of a face the way she was waving that snake around but he clearly was used to be handled that way and took it very well. Reggie (work snake) is used to having 5 hands on him at once so he just sort of chills in my hands until the kids are done petting him. Snakes are quiet so you know that that pet didn’t keep anyone up all night because it made noise (like Wrongy the Lamb).

Our python’s name is bealzebub. She came to us when her owner “found god” (I maintain he was under the couch the whole time) and decided her pet snake was an instument of Satan. Yes, really. too bad she’s not a pageant mom, right? Lol. She’s fairly “bomb proof”, except when she needs fed, and she’ll eat frozen/thawed, which many won’t. If you’re going to get a pet snake for kid’s (though it sounds like slither predates karley by a decade or so), it’s the species to get.
Was it beth whose daughter gabby was called “homely”? In my opinion, that’s far worse than suggesting that there may be some developmental delays afoot, and if I recall, she essentially said “I disagree”, and left it at that, unless I missed something.
My oldest daughter has one named Loki, nicknamed Snakestis, and it’ll eat the frozen/thawed as well. I can’t watch because it makes me too sad.
Reggie eats thawed rats. We used to feed the snakes (we had 2 red tailed boas but they both have since passed) but keeping the rats maintained so they were healthy for the snakes to eat got to be too much so we switched to frozen. Reggie can be a diva and won’t eat if we’re in the room. He is also a snot and sometimes just does not eat whatever we toss in there so we refreeze it. Reggie is 6 and we got him young so he’s always been exposed to kids. I tell the parents they are the ideal breed to start with since they are pretty easy going. He has gotten caught in our belt loops which is fun to get him out of. He has only bitten one person and that was me cause I accidentally freaked him out while doing a demo with him. I didn’t even notice it had happened until I saw his jaw was open and he was moving back. I couldn’t even tell you what finger he got. I’ve gotten worse cuts from my cats. I used to hate snakes but the Florida King Snake we had 8-10 years ago (I have been at my job too long lol) was a sweetie and changed my mind.
My roommate in college knew I was OK with snakes. She had a baby corn snake (seriously this thing was like 3 months old, teeny little. she snuck him into the dorm in a small change purse.). One day she was holding him and left the room for some reason, dropping Charlie (I think?) into my hand as she left. I barely noticed. we laughed about that for a while.

I will agree with you that normally the mom is an ok person. She does favor Aly from what I’ve seen, but I think in reality land its less of a “favoring” and more of a “gets along with the child most like her the best”.

Yes Beth understood that this is a snark site. She also understood that by putting her daughter in pageants she was allowing her to be judged. If the dress was not $8000 then how much was it? If it was not $8000 then my question to Kelly is why lie about it? There are people like me who have no idea about the business (where is Sami Jo and her knowledge of the way it works when you need help?) And then there are the people in the know who do this every weekend that would know the truth. So which is it.
I don’t know what she paid for her daughters’ dresses– I honestly have not asked, and don’t care. I also don’t know what my friends mortgage payments are. I am sure it wasn’t that much, but in the pageant world, people like to exaggerate– it’s kind of like people who swear their pitbull weighs 100 lbs, or their rottie weighs 200. It’s a weird sort of status symbol thing I don’t pretend to understand. The last time my granddaughter won grand supreme (she has not, to date, won ultimate), she did so in a dress that cost me about $300. I bought the shell for $100, and dyed, decorated, and stoned it myself.
I will say that Kelly is fairly well known in the pageant world as “the crazy rich lady”, and it would not surprise me at all to find out that a designer charged her more for a dress that she would for someone else. There is one designer who regularly charges $250 for a casual wear (there is np excuse for this– no stones, no miles of time-consuming ruffles), but charged a friend of mine $450 for one, because her kid is a big-name kid and my friend is well off.
I’m calling bullshit on the half a million dollar amount that woman claimed she spent. First of all, if you look at the shot of all the dresses they are obviously not for the twins – they are far too big. I figured there was maybe an older daughter/stepdaughter who did pageants. A reader on another forum said that she knows the lady and they rent out dresses for pageants. She also said that the $8,000 dress was really a $3,200 dress which Kelly (?) then bought online for $1200. That sounds more like it. The dress was hideous, too. The bus is apparently an RV that the girls use mostly as a playhouse, and they just added the pictures to the outside when they found out they were going to be on the show. Also, I don’t know what pageants those girls do but they can’t be nationals because several other mothers on other sites who do the pageant circuit claim that they have never seen or heard of the twins. Everything about that couple screams “fake” and I’m not buying any of it.

The girls have been in the background of several, but not the “real” national systems (those don’t generally allow t&t to film). The family is big into the reality tv circuit (dr Phil, monster-in-law, etc), but the girls do a fair bit of pro modeling, at which they excel. Not as much ad Kylie (that kid is on every sewing pattern, I swear!) but a fair amount. I didn’t sat she wasn’t crazy (she’d admit it, I am sure) just that she is a nice lady who clearly (in person) loves her girls. Gia tends to get more modeling gigs, which is a shame because aly definitely has more of the personality for it.
I will take issue with you, Oh Snap, at the suggestion that owning a pitbull shows a “lack of class”. The breed, as a whole, when responsibly bred (read: NOT what J-Lo is doing), and owned, are remarkable dogs. They are smart, sweet (did you know in the 50′s they were known as the “nanny dog” because of their amazing temperament around children?) and loyal. I don’t currently own one (I have 4 dogs, my city’s limit, and there is no more permanent room at the inn) but I am fostering one, and have fostered several, and they have all been amazing dogs. I have suffered, in my lifetime, 4 serious bites: 1 lab, 1 old english sheepdog (to the tune of147 stitches to reattach my left ear and reassemble my scalp), 1 cocker spaniel, and 1 chihuahua. Don’t hold J-Lo’s less-than-classy-image against the breed.
@Oh snap – Yes! That redhead was Taralyn Eschberger, whose parents decided not to do any more episodes. She was my fave, but I adore ginger babies!
Also, I’m so with you @Oh snap on the pit bulls. I know lots of people adore them, and I have known some nice ones, but they send up a red flag for me as well as far as their owners, as a whole, though I’m sure there are exceptions.
Taralyn is a doll. Mom might want to consider switching to decaf, but for a kid who started pageants at (I think) 4 (a late bloomer, by pageant standards), she’s really racked up the titles, and seems to really love them. It’s a shame they won’t be doing more episodes. We need more “essentially normal” representatives. I know a lot of people, though, who have turned down being followed because of (a) the editing and (b) the …….interesting…… families you are likely to be lumped in with.
Ash, really the “exceptions” you speak of are the rule. The problem is that the “stereotypical” pitbull owners get far worse press. The dogs themselves, 99% of the time (and trust me, that is a far higher percentage than I would give to ANY small breed, and many medium/large breeds, and I’ve been working in rescue for YEARS) are awesome. I’m thrilled to see people like Rachel Ray giving the breed a better reputation.

In my town, the pitbulls all seem to come from one particular part of town, and it’s down by the tracks, so perhaps it’s not the breed, but a certain type of demographic does seem to favor them. I have not met either Alexes or Camarie in person, so I won’t comment on them. My son IS autistic (borderline between high functioning/asperger’s syndrome), and trust me when I say that Giavanna does NOT qualify. AT ALL. She’s a very normal, though shy and reserved, VERY typical 4-year-old, who really couldn’t care less if she does pageants or not. She usually “shows” better than she did the day they were filmed, but she’s not nearly as into is as Aly is, because Aly has a much more outgoing personality.

Pitbulls are the best dog. My bestfriend and loyal pretty pretty widdle boy XL gave me 9 of the best years of my life. He was a Staffordshire Terrier breed of pitbull and he was all kinds of greatness. He loved laughter and ran at the hint of a giggle and he would grin and twirl:) He would dance…yes dance to DMX(yup that time period) he’d hop up on his hind legs to the right beat…dude was marvelous to watch.
My niece(now daughter) was born, I left in her in the living room in her car seat to run and garb some laundry. When I came upstairs I heard her crying, because she had dropped her her pacifer(’05). When I got to the living room XL had the pacifier in his mouth…putting it in hers!!!!! XL learned the hard way that the oven was hot in the ‘Great fizzed whiskers and eyebrow incident of ’01′. So whenever it was ON and only it was on he would block her every move toward the kitchen. He would stand there and let her line his ‘foodies’(dry food) on his back and patiently wait for her to take them back off one by one. He started doing things to make you laugh and the more laughter he received the sillier he got:). My daughter declared him her best friend when she was 2 and he went to bed with her every night at bedtime and stayed with her until she fell asleep until he went to that place all doggie bestfriends go once they have done their job here,

Haven’t read the minicap or thread yet, so am certain I’ll be back, but wanted to make some initial observations – LOVED Karley and Crystal AND Slither. It was clear that both mother and daughter were having fun. It was also clear that Karley genuinely loved that snake – the only child that was featured that did actually love her pet.

Does anyone know if that sweet girl, she was the one that was doing the glitiz for the first time and she was a twin but her sister was a frozen embryo for a few years. The mother was older. I remember thinking she was so sweet and hoped she would go far in the pagents as she seemed to enjoy them.

You know when I first started watching this show I was so against pagnents totally, but after reading the posts from parents, grandparents and others I came to realize that it’s not really all that bad. Sure there are the Mickie Woods out there, the nut cases (too damn many to list) but there are so many that do this for fun and while I will always make fun of the nuts I have to give a clap and a nod to those that are normal and letting those little girls be well little girls and in the case of my all time favorite guy “Brock” just being Brock. When I saw him I thought the poor kid is going to be teased for the rest of his life, but you know what with the parents he has, he’s going to be okay. If any of you Mom’s or Grandma’s know this family please tell them they are a shining star example for others to aspire to be like.

I know brock’s family quite well. He is an awesome little man, who is going to be JUST FINE. He competes at pageants a couple times a year, but his dance schedule means that it doesn’t happen all that often. he’s now 9, a tiny little bean, quite the accomplished dancer, and aspires to be a fashion designer, and, with his awesome parents behind him, I have no doubt he will make it.
I also rooted for Camarie when I saw the episode but no matter how trashy Tricia was, and how strange she was, her child was very well behaved and seemed loved. I didn’t see the same mean streak that Jennifer and her child exhibited. I think I’d like to go have a beer with Tricia, she seems like she would be fun.
I love the recaps here, because Crabby and the comments say what I think. If you can’t keep things in perspective, you need a new hobby. Beth and Ally are examples of moms who can take things in stride. If you can’t take criticism, don’t put yourself out there on TV and then act like an ass.

What they didn’t tell you on T&T is that Brock comes from a somewhat conservative family (religiously speaking). Mom and dad were both big athletes growing up, and assumed he would be as well. When he said he wanted to dance, though, they went with it. He and his sister are both accomplished dancers, which is impressive because he’s all of 9, and she’s maybe 4. Their parents are completely awesome– the prime example of supporting your children’s interests, regardless of whether or not they mesh with your own.
I’m not certain whether or not that is actually Camarie’s mom. A lot of the syntax is similar to how she posts on FB, but the extreme peppering of foul language makes me question it. I’m not deep personal friends with her IRL, but I’ve been at more than one pageant with her and she has always been reasonably pleasant (My DD is not in her age group). She was insisting that she is the real Camarie mamma, so I figured I’d call the bluff, seeing as I was at the pageant they were at this past weekend. Camarie did well, but did not pull the Ultimate last weekend. Not to mention, the pageant was a capped pageant (limited entry) so there weren’t a ton of girls there.
Anyone can go and watch a pageant– IF you’re willing to pay the $10-20 it costs to get in the door. The fact is that we really are a “family” though, and we all keep an eye on eachother’s kids, and while anyone CAN go watch, the chance of them actually laying a finger on a child are slim/none. Kids are at a higher risk at a little league game (where there isn’t a door charge, and being in a far more open area, the opportunities are more plentiful).
VerUca if you know then please tell us who you are? I bet you want because your prob one of those two face bitches who is on my fb being friends then talking trash because Camarie beat your kid. I’d you want to get technical she won 0-4 grand supreme and Photogenic at last weekends Pageant southern sweethearts but Camarie has won ultimate at southern sweethearts before too.
If it isn’t actually her, someone needs to let her know. Perhaps post on her/Camarie’s page and ask if she knows about this site? Because if it isn’t her– she needs to know. But I really think it is, which makes me sad.

Brock and his sister competed a couple weeks ago, at a state pageant. I think he got robbed, to be honest, but he had some tough competition (there were 3 boys– Brock, a boy who will some day be an Abercrombie model, and Isabella’s (glasses, awesome girl) brother, who has personality for MILES. We missed crowning, so I don’t know who won what in the boys but I am told he got “prince’.

2. I haven’t talked trash about your daughter. In fact, I mentioned the fact that in person you have always been pleasant towards me. 3. I can assure you that your child has never beaten mine at a pageant. My pageant girl is almost a teen and she only does Nationals. Different age group, supreme group, and unless I’m mistaken I have not yet seen you at a National. I was at the pageant last weekend supporting a friend. I have seen you at several pageants that I’ve been in attendance at supporting my friends.

You’re still relatively new to pageantry so let me spell it out for you– if you keep developing the reputation of being a Class A Thundercunt, you will find yourself getting banned from pageants. Lots of directors won’t tolerate the drama. It becomes more critical if you ever want to move beyond the prelims with less than 30 contestants.

Long time reader, first time commenter.
Question. At what point does someone from the site step in and come up with a way to end the ridiculous tirades? Don’t get me wrong…I’ve spent more time laughing at inappropriate and shocking comments and rants over the last couple of days than I have spent in a very long time! I have enjoyed almost every minute of it, and have had to close my office door more than once to contain my giggles. I just wonder if there is a limit to what is considered acceptable and reasonable?
Eventually, Camarie is going to be old enough to read. Eventually, someone is going to bring this sort of diatribe to her attention. Eventually, she’s going to realize that her mother (or someone pretending to be her mother) cared so little for her that she was willing to make a complete fool of herself in a highly offensive manner towards people who really should have no impact on her life.
What kind of parent lets it get this bad, and when does someone else need to step in and say that enough is enough?

Kinda. Some National systems require that you do the prelims or states to qualify. We do prelims or states to keep my granddaughter in practice for the 5-6 big nationals we do each year. you will not see a TRUE national on T&T. They won’t allow it. We do some systems (Maxine’s, we did Glitzy Divas) that film, but most of the real national system will not allow filming.

The only “real” National that I recall seeing on TnT was Hearts and Crowns, and that is a lesser National than most. One of the BIGGEST reasons that you don’t see many Nationals on TnT is that Mr. Tim (the emcee of most good Nationals) will NOT appear at a pageant that they film. I refuse to consider UR a “real” National– its been the joke of pageantry for years. We don’t do many prelims anymore, except for the ones where it steps up (Prelim to State to National). My daughter is older and there are rarely any girls in her age group at the smaller prelims. When she has nobody to compete against, she gets bored and falls flat. So they don’t do us a lot of good. We will do Cover Miss prelims because we often do their State and Nationals, but other than that we limit our time to our Nationals.
I wouldn’t say “minor league” and “major league”…. just a different level of competition, both in sheer numbers and in the skill levels of the competitors.

Can we make it to 300? On a MINIcap, no less! Anyway, loved Karley, and her python (though I wish someone had taught her to handle it properly!). Loved Kali and her silver teeth (I got the feeling that this was more of a semi-glitz pageant, since few seemed to have hairpieces, and the makeup was very toned down, and I’m not sure I saw a single flipper). Gia is gorgeous, if uninterested in pageants, and Aly is cute in that “I want to pat her on the head” kind of way. Loved the lamb, would have given Gia first choice of critter, since Aly would probably be happy with anything. Thought Kelly should have been kinder to hubby (hello! You’re on CAMERA!), thought the bus was mildly creepy. And you? lol
Harriet– in the interest of fairness, I’ve met Camarie numerous times in person and I do not feel that she is on the spectrum. Some people (children included) just do not do well with cameras.

Regarding the pageants.
Hey PG, I also noticed that no one was wearing a flipper. But then again, at the start of each show, the PD/MC will state if this is Full Glitz or not. We don’t see that many Semi Glitz. One of the girls looked like she was getting her face spray tanned with the airbrush…why don’t mom’s just do this the day of. To me that looks more natural then, well then the spray tan. The girls don’t look so “dirty” by the end of the episode. Ok here is a question, if the pageant is Semi, you can go Full right?

I’m 100% glad I have never met Camarie in Real life!!! That is some bad interaction with the camera! Veruca, after meeting them did you develop slight or partial paralysis, Hallucinations, a fear of water?
to give credit where due, we are “new” to pageants. By that I mean that while I have been designing pageant attire (and selling to some of the biggest-name kids out there) for years, I have 2 boys, by birth, who have ZERO interest in it, and it wasn’t until my daughter-in-law decided she wanted to put my granddaughter in pageants that we got involved on a participation level. She (granddaughter) did her first about a year ago. Since then, we’ve done some local, mostly not. Several big nationals (not a chance I’ll say which ones, since squid-kid’s mom seems so unbalanced) . We’ve done 2 that have been filmed (one a week ago, 1 last year). GD has never got less than perfect attire and ‘facial” scores. presentation scores always depend on the day. She supremes more often than not, but she does have one “princess” (participation award) to her “credit”, and guess what? We were cool with that. She had an off day, and the other kids were better. We all lived to tell the tale.
The “spray tanning” you saw being airbrushed was actually probably just foundation. We do that for our granddaughter when spray-tanning is expected, but mostly because she is too wiggly yet to hold still. The spray-tan machines are LOUD and it’s cold, and if the kiddo is under about 3, it’s hard to explain to them what’s going on. Rather than holding her down and torturing her, we just do the “tan in a can”. The issue is that it wipes off on EVERYTHING, including her socks, and we have to be VERY VERY careful.

@PG-I thought Kali was a gorgeous little girl. The tin flipper, not so much. Do you ever see that little girl who wanted to be brown like Beyonce? I think her name was Allison or Allyson or Al-e-sin. She was my all time favorite. She was the cutest little thing ever with her ‘ happy heart and good attitude’. Her mom was one of the few normal mothers, so I figured she wouldn’t be on again. They don’t usually have the normal ones back for a second time.

It took me QUITE some time to get through all these comments so that I could say HI! Heck, I haven’t even watched the show yet (damn DVR didn’t record it) so I have to wait for next week.
I don’t even know where I was first mentioned in the comments, lol, but yes, I really don’t care what people truly thought of Gabby on here. It does hurt at first to see someone call your kid “homely” but you have to sit back and think that is someone’s opinion who only saw 15 minutes of our life. I am here mom and of course I think she is beautiful. And, obviously so did the judges at our last pageant where she won Overall Most Beautiful in the 5-9 year olds
I am so glad that we just have two little pageants to get through in the next two weeks and then we are DONE for the majority of the summer, yay!!! We were going to be going to Porcelain Dolls (Shout out to Veruca whom I have no idea who she is) but decided at the last moment that we would just enjoy Memorial Day weekend with our boys instead of spending all the money and save up for vacay!!! I just could care less about pageants. I remember reading about parents living vicariously through their daughters….and I was even a target of this. Again, just had to really laugh about it because I look forward to spending 3 hours at the ball field watching my son play baseball than sitting in a ballroom with all the snarky pageant moms that talk about you behind your back as soon as you walk out the door. At least at the ball field I can scream at the umpires and not get my kid blackballed, lol!
As far as the dresses and making of clothes….I worked this week on a dress for a friend’s daughter and I can tell you that I didn’t charge here anywhere near what she would pay for a designer (more so because she helped me) but I can completely understand why they charge 1000+ for a dress. Zoe, my younger daughter, has a dress with 40 gross of stones (5760 stones!!) each individually laid on the bodice and Gabby’s new dress which might I add is beautiful is roughly in the same ballpark and it took so much time to get the detail work just right. Wish you could all see it
$8000 for a dress, I don’t see that, but hell if someone wants to pay me that to make one, I wouldn’t argue one bit.
Brock…know his mom and she is a great lady, kids love the family, hope to see them sometime over the summer.
The scariest part is now Zoe is crying she wants to be followed…um, no way chick! I sure hope I don’t cave, but then again, I don’t think we gave them enough to warrant a return visit…thank god!

Beth– I know you in person (though out of wanting to protect my granddaughter from the crazies, I won’t say anything further here). Gabby is a beautiful girl (though she does have a “mature” face– the kind of kid that you know will be a head-turner later, but her face looks older than she is right now), and miss Zoe (also gorgeous) has the most infectious personality– you can’t help but love her the second you meet her. I LOVE your dress designs.

Remember when everyone said Chelsea Clinton was “homely”? She turned out to be a gorgeous woman. Some kids just have faces that look older than they are, and it throws people off. I have neighbors who are both attractive people. To be honest, I don’t know their names, but we call them Ken and Barbie. Their son, “Skipper” (not sure what his name is, but to keep with the matel theme), is 2. He is an ODD looking child. You can tell as an adult, he’ll be “hot”– he’ll look just like his dad, but he has a VERY adult looking face now, at 2– he looks EXACTLY like his dad!

I can see how those dresses can take you forever to make. My mom is a seemstress. She made bridesmaids dresses for my wedding and for my sister. She had the unfortunate task of having to wait for me to make my dress for my sisters wedding until I was back home. She was finishing my dress on the way to the rehersal dinner! I went to put that same dress on last year for a formal wedding and it was 4 sizes to big! so I can understand how those dresses are all time consuming! My mom also made our jewelry for sisters wedding. Granted my mom only charged us for the pattern and materials she used, but she could have made a whole lot more money!
Now will Zoey wear Gabby’s “old” beauty dresses or does she get her own? Also, how does one get followed for this show? That has always been a question of mine. I have to giggle at the fact that she does not like “Sparkle Baby”. But then agian, I could understand that…she is not 2.
Gotta keep going to beat the record for most posts. That distiction goes to an episode of The Hills that had somewhere between 500 and 800 comments (forgive my Alzheimer’s riddled brain for not remembering the exact amount).
Anyway, love that someone can have a snake and really care about it. Hate what is virtually animal abuse going on with the grumpy old man. And I am finding this show more and more depressing since it really is an indicator of society today. Maybe the Mayans were right, because things aren’t looking that great right now.
You know what is sad, I accidently left this box open yesterday and the last comment was #75.
@Snarkle Baby Zoe has her own dresses. She is more of a Strawberry Blonde and Gabby more of a dark/Ash so they each have different colors that compliment them. Right now Zoe wears a lime dress with rose and fuschia stones that are in the shape of flowers along with clear crystals. The green really pops on her. And, I make them each their own dress because I hate for Zoe to just get hand me downs all the time. I really need to sell Gabby’s dress from the show since she has her new one, but I am still sentimentally attached, lol!
And, yes, she HATES it, lol! She says “Mom, don’t act like those crazy people” hahaha! Even at 9 she gets it. We use hand signals if I see her doing something that she needs to correct, pointing to her mouth if she drops a smile, moving my hands if her hands aren’t set right, spinning a finger around if she needs to turn. She knows all her routines, and should at 9 (even Zoe gets the same things at 7) but they have their moments on stage they freeze. Hell I would if I was them, I surely don’t have the guts to do what they do. They have a school talent show next week and they both decided to do it to show their school what they actually do on stage (an Outfit of Choice Routine) instead of what they see on TV. They have never performed for a group of people they really know except for the occasional grandparent, so I see more stress with this than an actual pageant. They have to see these people the next day.
To get on the show, we had actually submitted about 4-5 pageants into competiting. Yeah, I know, we were only at “13″ when we aired, but it was over a year later and we were at quite a different place at her competiton level and even now, 6 months later she is even further along. So, they contacted me this time and I resent new pictures of the girls and they decided they wanted us. I had to pick one of the girls (Zoe actually said to let Gabby do it because she wasn’t “ready”to be followed) because they were already following a set of siblings per the producer which ended up not being completely true as they only focused on one child in that family as well. Our producer never fed us words, I was just as careful as I could to watch what I said. I really cared about how we came across, I didn’t want to give them “too much” to work with. Overall I was pretty proud of how we came off. I think yeah I could have done things differently, heck, I should have been more “snarky” and not look like a pushover or someone who was actually jealous or scared of the competition. I really didn’t care, and I even said many times on camera that I didn’t expect us to win. Not tht I didn’t believe in my child, but hell I knew their were 93 kids there and it was anyone’s game. Editing is AMAZING, ugh!

Beth thank you again for sharing your experience. I would love to see how Gabby has grown in her abilities but I understand if you do it again it would be Zoey’s turn. Personally I think Mackenzie’s mom has the on camera behavior down to a science. She doesn’t talk, just kind of sleeps through the whole thing, lol.

I found this on Camarie’s FB page. I think Veruca finally got through to her when she pointed out that some directors come on here. Because she did not comment again. I have no doubt that it was her, too many inside details. I think that after reading Veruca’s message she went oh shit and got off. “There’s no point in arguing with people who don’t understand the concept of editing on reality tv.” This what makes me know it is her. If someone is pretending to be you, you are not going to point out the editing like she did in many of her post.

Those poor animals! Completely setting aside the issues with the kids, I can’t believe that no one(pageant organizers, parents, ASPCA) stepped up and stopped this awful “Me and My Pet” idea. Even loving and gentle kids like the girl with the snake aren’t always careful and that kind of chaos full of people who might not know how to treat animals is so wrong. I’m surprised there wasn’t a scratching or biting incident recorded.
The concept sounds cute, but it’s got a high risk of being horribly traumatic for the pets. My shy little cat would’ve panicked herself to death in all that: I just hope the parents took into account their pets’ personalities before they signed on.

If Octopus’s mom is okay with her old-enough-to-know-better evil child hurling a dog down to the ground by its jowels, then there really is no hope for her. She is a terrible human being, and a genetic cesspool of irredeemable white trash. If I so much as smacked one of our pets as a TODDLER I was firmly instructed not to. But I’ve been fortunate enough to be raised in an upper middle class family whose chromosomes haven’t been polluted by cousin fucking and no aspirations beyond peddling our children as our only hope for attention and a sad quasi-fame.
I still just can’t get over a pageant with pets…or all those animals! It is hard enough to compete two girls on a normal day, not to mention add in something crazy like that. Can’t wait to catch the rerun!

Yeah, I got to her. And yes, it had to be the real her. A FB fan could have known what title Camarie won last weekend, but only her mom would know where. It was a very small pageant in an even smaller town. If it calms her the hell down it was worth it. If her daughter enjoys pageants, I’d hate for her to end up banned because of her mothers behavior. I’ve seen it before. Hell, the ever famous Jamie Stacy was banned from MANY pageants in Florida for MANY years, and is finding herself on the local shit list more and more for her behavior. She was smart on camera, but many of us know what lies beneath the surface on that one.
Beth, I’m one of the people who thought your daughter looked homely. I have to correct myself I have found a better way to express myself ,would have to agree she does have a mature face. I have seen many ‘oldman’ little boys turn into stunners so I am totally there with the same assessment for Miss Gabby.
I don’t think Gabby is homely, but I will say that I did not like that color on her. The dress was GORGEOUS, but I think the color just overpowered her.

I find it insulting to consider an Autistic person slow. There is nothing usually wrong with their intellect, is it the way they perceive the world around them. Sorry being unable to communicate verbal still does not mean there is a problem with the person’s intellect. Having problems with visual and visual over stimulation plays no part in the persons intellect. The term ‘slow’ in this day and age is usually referring to someone who is intellectually challenged. I don’t know any of you guys in TRL, but I’ll defend whoever I think is being unfairly badgered. Or someone who is unfairly/justly badgering another gasmii(longtime gasmii or not). Ok, I am actually not going to be all “I am not offended” and sugar coat anything on this one, I have been stewing over this the past hour or so.
It hurt BAD to read the initial comments on here that Gabby was “homely” and a cross between Michael Cera and the Church Lady. Seriously, could you imagine your daughter being called that? Even if you were trying to not be mean. But, I took it for what this is a snark site and let it go. But, off line I sat and pondered if I was really as “delusional” as people typed that I was and was my daughter really “homely” and ugly and was I just not seeing it. Was this a hobby she should be in? Were people just being nice to our face? Then I realized that you know what, I have a stunningly beautiful little girl inside and out. I would not have even questioned for a moment if someone said my child was developmentally delayed, or something to that effect. Because that can be scientifically proven and have a concrete answer. It wouldn’t be sitting there in the back of my mind making me question things. I cannot have my daughter scientifically proven beautiful, so it is just someone’s opinion. And so there, yes, it does hurt tremendously to have someone call out your daughter like that. I am not a superficial person at all but hell, that is my baby girl and it hurt bad.
So, while I will consider to enjoy every moment reading all of this, we all do need to remember that the moms of the girls do read this stuff, they are pretty partial to their babies, and it hurts to read the negativity. Yes, we did put ourselves out there and that is why I can still laugh about it. But, we are adults and calling kids ugly is well, ugly. Because there are for sure some ugly kids out there, I am starky, I will say that, but that is my opinion and not a scientific fact that they are developmentally delayed or so brilliant they are a little lost in the normal world we all live in.

I personally know what if feels like for someone to comment on your child’s looks negatively, but sadly, in the case of my beautiful little boy, it’s because he has CP and fluid on his brain makes his head larger than normal, so I can see where you’re coming from…sorta. My little one is one handsome devil, and anyone, not just his bias mom
, will agree with me on that one, but even if he wasn’t, I wouldn’t be so offended about the comments about his looks if he weren’t disabled. A child with a delay in any way has a hard life ahead of them regardless, and dumb asses that make comments about them makes it that much harder.
Having said that, I can’t see why you would be more offended by someone calling your child ‘homely’ than by them saying she looked ‘slow’. Most (def not all, because there are some legitimately knowledgeable people on here that gave their opinions in an honest and concerned manner in hopes that she would put her pride aside and maybe look into the possibility)….MOST of the people that were calling J-Lo’s child ‘slow’ or other horribly offensive words, weren’t doing it out of kindness or concern about her mental capabilities, they did it because her mom came on here and acted like a raging bitch, so that’s a dig, not a ‘concerned observation’, and imo, any way you look at it, a dig about the way your child looks doesn’t compare to a dig about her mental capacity. PERIOD. If you have a professional, or someone with experience or knowledge of disabilities say to you that you may want to look into getting your child tested, that’s a blessing in disguise, because again, most parents won’t pick up on certain things out of sheer denial. But when you have someone calling your child despicable names and questioning her mentality to piss you off even more, that’s a whole nother issue & not something that should be classified as less harmful than calling them ugly.

As, I parent of a 7 year old girl…I can admit that while 99.9% of the time I think she is the prettiest little girl ever to brought into our world. I can also admit there have been days where ummmm had to question who’s son woke up in my daughter’s bed. But, has a 4 year old son who is told how pretty he is daily(and he loves it). This is coming from someone who has NO pictures of herself from the 7th and 8th grade(all destroyed…not throw away DESTROYED). 80′s hair…80′s clothes…me having no sense of style…and last but not least 80′s owl glasses(can someone explain to my why they had to take up your whole face).
@Beth – I get what you’re saying and I think I did say something about Gabby’s looks and I do call kids ugly ON THIS SITE. As a mom, I would not be over here if I knew the nature of the site and it was about my kid, because I would not want to see it, and would not be able to be as pleasant about it as you’ve been. I guess I feel that the absurd concept of child beauty pageants lends itself to equally absurd commentary, such as calling out children I don’t view as attractive when I would not do that in real life. If I saw Gabby on the street I would not instantly think anything negative about her looks, I would most likely notice if she had a cute smile or something, but in the context in which we see her, it seems logical to judge these kids, since they’ve been put up for judgment. When you put your kids on TV, even though they are real people, it lends itself to people treating them as “characters,” which is probably why so many pageant parents don’t do the show. I hope that makes sense, I’m just trying to justify why we, otherwise normal people, many of us parents, say things about kids on this site that we would not to their faces. This is a specific site that mocks the absurdity of modern television, and it is in that context. I do hope that the kids don’t read this stuff, and I am careful about what my kid looks at online. I’m sure you are too, and, ultimately, I don’t see this harming any kids in and of itself. I believe it hurt a lot to read that about Gabby but, keep in mind, none of us know her and, if we did, would likely have a very different opinion of her and how cute she prbably is in real life when you know her. That is the danger in making your child a television character. I can’t say I will change the way I talk about kids on this show, because I won’t, but I just wanted to give you one perspective of why it is easy to do it in this venue. Hope that makes sense. I think Gabby will grow up to be a statuesque, classic looking woman, and it sounds like she has her head on straight and a mom who is teaching her the right values. Best of luck to you both!

I know what you mean. It is rough to have a child that doesn’t necessarily fit the “cookie cutter” mold of beauty. My pageant girl is the same way. She is stunning in my eyes, but when it comes to pageants she either pulls a very high title, or nothing at all. She has a very unique look, and I’m sure if I put her on TV I’d get some comments of the same nature that you did. There have been times that I wanted to walk away from pageantry, but she always talked me out of it. She loves to be on stage and win or lose she is always happy with the experiences and friends she has made.
By rough I mean, rough in the pageant world.. not in day to day life..lol.

And, yes, I completely know what you guys are saying about saying things on here. Apart from the actual recap (and DearCrabby– PLEASE KNOCK IT OFF with the word “tard”– it’s not funny, and it makes people who have souls cringe,) I don’t think anyone used any of the offensive “I’m going to call your kid slow just to piss you off” digs until J-Lo stormed in here acting like a psycho. If you’ll recall, she ALSO called autistic kids “retarded” and implied that they, along with kids who have CP, should have been aborted, so I kinda think she gets what she gets. The first person to point out that my son might have special needs was not a professional. It was a fellow mom at playgroup. it actually took a long time to get a diagnosis, because it was 15 years ago, and Asperger’s was a fairly new diagnosis back then. They thought it was ADHD, OCD, tourette (which he also had), and a hundred other things before we finally got a diagnosis that FIT. Part of it may be my perspective. I have been the mother of a special needs child (now a young man), for a long time. He wasn’t officially diagnosed until age 7, but in hindsight I can see signs from as far back as his first few weeks of life. So, no, it doesn’t offend me at all for someone to suggest he is autistic. HE IS. If someone called him “slow” or “retarded”, I’d laugh, to be honest. It’s the furthest possible thing from the truth. He was reading before he was three. Call him socially awkward, emotionally delayed, or even just plain WEIRD, and I’m right there with you. Call him “ugly”, and “them’s fightin’ words”. Not sure I would have felt the same way 15 years ago, when most people still thought autism=rainman, or equated it with a lower intelligence, or even when the diagnosis was fresh and new, and still stung a bit.

I am still waiting to be shown where I “hated on” Alaska. I called her nice. I’m pretty sure I called her beautiful. I said her mom might want to consider switching to decaf. I explained, correctly, what the “puppy title” she won, was. (though I will add that it is at least a bit better than the photo titles in that it is based on her actual face, and not some photoshopper’s interpretation of what her face should look like.). She was proud of that title, and that’s great. That’s all that should matter. I came to terms with my son’s autism years ago. It is what it is, and we are not ashamed of it, or of him. We do not think of it as a disability– it’s a difference; one which gives him remarkable strengths in areas neurotypical people often don’t have, and, yes, some deficits in other areas. He is a remarkable person, who happens to need to work harder to interpret non-verbal cues, and is easily overwhelmed by certain stimuli which his differently-wired brain can’t filter out. On the other hand, this lack of filter means that if he’s ever seen it, he can find it (super handy when my keys are lost), and any teasing he may have endured in school went largely over his head. So, no, I do not find the suggestion of autism to be at all offensive (crabby’s recap notwithstanding) and since my original comparison was to beth’s reaction v/s j-lo’s, and to my knowledge crabby didn’t call gabby homely in her recap, it was the comments to which I was referring, and those didn’t get nasty to j-lo until she stormed in behaving the way she did. …..I have no idea what you’re talking about..but I’ll try to reply.
You are correct in saying my initial comment was because I took offense to someone saying that they’d rather their child be called developmentally delayed than ugly, but I never said anything specifically regarding autism, so that’s where you lost me. Again, the only reason autism was every brought up in my comments, is because I felt that PG’s comment, as a mother with a child who has autism, made it more bizarre to me. I thought it was worse that someone with a special needs child would say something that dumb.
I also don’t get why you would take offense to the term ‘developmentally delayed’ because that is a clinical term that is often used, but to each it’s own. My only point was, as a mother with a disabled child, I felt it offensive for someone to say they’d rather someone called their child ‘slow’ than to call them ugly. PG tried to make it out as something against or about autism, when that was never my intent.
Now, being a mother of a child with special needs may make me a little more sensitive about the subject, I’ll give you that, but I’m struggling to understand why anyone would take more offense from some dumbass calling your child ugly than if they were to call them slow. For what it is worth, this is how I interpreted PageantGrandma’s comment about being mad if her kid was called ugly, but not if he was called slow:
Pageant Grandma loves her kid. She thinks he is brilliant and knows that despite his social limitations he is just as smart, if not more so, than other kids his age. This is not a subjective appraisal, it is based on her observations of his abilities, his performance in school, etc. If someone were to call him “slow” she would not be bothered by it because she knows that he is anything but. She is confident in her assessment of his abilities because it is not subjective, it is tangible and provable.
If, on the other hand, someone calls her child “ugly” she would be offended because she has nothing other than her own opinion to back her up. Like someone upthread said, beauty is subjective and there is no way of scientifically proving that someone is attractive. So, the way I see it the “slow” label wouldn’t bother her because she has the confidence and the proof to brush it off, but the “ugly” label is not something that is as easily counteracted. Think of it this way: If someone called me dumb, slow, and idiot, etc., it wouldn’t bother me at all because I am very educated, have a great career, went to university on full scholarship, etc. It wouldn’t bother me because I know it’s the furthest thing from the truth. However, my weight (size 10) can, by some standards, be seen as heavy, but not by all. It is subjective, though – the size 16 person thinks I look good, but the size 2 person thinks I’m huge. So, if someone called me “fat” I would be very offended because it’s an aspect of my appearance that I constantly struggle with.

I finally figured out why J-Lo is isn’t as fun as past pageant moms who’ve shown up on here. Despite, their limited vocabulary the other moms at least gave us some variety. J-L0 keeps saying the same things, in the same way over and over again.

Sorry I don’t think suggesting a child be screened for developmental delays to be bashing. I hate the “r” word and I wish people would stop using it, especially to describe kids who are on the spectrum. Early intervention is so important when it comes to treating asd and the stigma needs to be removed. I wondered about Alexes from the first time she crab walked across the stage, but that is not an insult. I figured Camarie was the result of bad parenting, which is not the kids fault. Just to be perfectly clear I’m not calling out the child, I’m calling out the mom who allows the bad behavior to continue.
When you put your life on tv, especially a show that is notorious for editing people into “characters”, and act like an ass, don’t be surprised when people call you an ass. It’s possible to do the show and not come off as bat shit crazy. It annoys me when people go on this show and exaggerate the cost of everything, or make the kids do something they hate, or just do stupid crap like bleaching little kids teeth because that’s not what it’s all about. People start thinking we do stupid crap too and really we don’t. I have a general hatred of stupid people and it tends to spill over when I watch this show.
Beth – I think we would have fun hanging out. My love hate relationship with t&t is that they don’t show the positive side of pageants. You did a good job of representing the normal ones and your daughter was so cute. I can’t speak for any other pageant moms but we love pageants and our pageant friends. We had a van full of pageant friends drive 4 hours to come to my daughters birthday party when my own sister who lives in town couldn’t be bothered to come. They don’t show you how much fun the kids are having because that’s boring tv.
I try very hard to keep my comments general and not personal and I will take a step back when I feel like someone is trying to goad me into an Internet pissing contest. I don’t think I’ve ever called a child ugly. If a child is acting like a brat I will call them a brat and if their performance sucks I will say it sucked but that’s not the same thing as calling someone ugly.

My niece’s real mom ‘dumped’ her off on me because she, her husband, and my 2 week old niece died in a horrible multi-car accident(my niece lived for 7 weeks after the accident). Its comforting to know that death is considered ‘dumping’ your under age family members on you. It took me a while getting use to the fact that my baby sister died and I was suddenly in charge of 2 children. BTW, I have never planned on being a mother never ever everrrrrrrrr, that was a vow I made with my best friends in the 9th grade and none of us have given birth. I don’t remember and lawd knows I’m not searching for the comment…but I like I think many people watch this as a television show. I feel that I can judge talk about anyone and everyone. I talk about Henry from OUaT and hate his guts…if I had my way he would stay in his current coma until the show is off. Lookie there is he a child. If I ever saw any of the children for scripted or reality TV that I have formed an opinion of I wouldn’t voice it to the child. Going back to Henry(since he is my current hated child) in real life I would probably hug him…maybe even ask for his autograph.

Someone brought on Teresa on RHONJ. For those of you who watch it doesn’t it seem like J Lo is Teresa and the rest of our Melissa from the fight in the parking lot this last weekend? Like Teresa J Lo just flings stuff out there hoping something sticks. She also calls everyone a hypocrite and then goes on her FB page and denies making these comments.
FancyFace– Go back and read my comments since you first stormed in screaming profanity at me and calling me every vulgar name in the book (except for J-Lo’s two favorites, aparently). My point really hasn’t changed, and YES, LoyalFan’s interpretation is, and always has been, correct. Someone can call my son “retarded” (J-Lo did, repeatedly), and it doesn’t bother me at all because I know that his IQ actually ranks somewhere in the gifted/genius range. Calling him socially awkward, etc, doesn’t offend me, either, because by most people’s interpretation, HE IS. It’s part of the syndrome. It’s just a fact. It’d be like teasing my younger son for being uncoordinated with his right hand (he’s a lefty). Statements of FACT don’t offend me, nor do statements I know, and can prove, to be just not accurate. But beauty IS subjective, and though I think he’s gorgeous, I recognize that other people may not think so. Due to an unrelated genetic condition (Marfan syndrome), he is very tall, and very thin, and YES, I would be more offended if someone called him ugly. I can refute the rest. So….who else couldn’t understand how Kelly could spend half a mil on pageants when she lives in the house she has? I saw earlier where someone said that wasn’t her house because her house is huge, but unless she’s renting out a smaller house to be taped in (which I highly doubt), that’s not true! That is the same tiny house she filmed in during her Monster-In-Law show. I remembered thinking how they could offer her mom $100,000 to leave and have stacks of $ laying around when their house is so…um….modest. Decent, but….modest. Even smaller than mine & I sure as hell couldn’t afford to spend ANY $ for someone to tell me my kid is cute. Maybe they’re the type that bought them a good little home and paid it off and choose to spend their money on other things besides a mortgage payment, but she doesn’t strike me as the type that would do that. I think if she could TRULY afford it, she would definitely be living in a McMansion! Anyone else call bullshit on the money front?

Mind you, by HUGE, I definitely didn’t mean “McMansion”, but it is quite a bit bigger than my tiny bungalo, so my perspective may be skewed. It’s all on one floor, but the actual square footage is much much larger than my home. I did go back and watch, and yes, they show the house. The first time I watched it I only saw the pole barn.
I think it can be safely said that she exaggerated the amount spent– as was noted, an $8,000 dress doesn’t really exist. I don’t know why pageant moms like to brag about how much they’ve “spent” (usually grossly over-estimated, unless they are talking to their spouse, in which case the roles are reversed). I am quite proud of the fact that my granddaughter has a very competitive wardrobe, without having to mortgage my tiny little house to pay for it.

They want to be on camera–they NEED to be on camera, and because reality TV has been with us for a good long while now, they know exactly what to say to GET on camera. Some nutball gushes that she spent half a million dollars on pageants, that nutball’s gonna be on the Tee-Vee for sure.
And they have no reservations about using their kid(s) as camera-time tools, either.

On that show, I also felt like they had a skewed prospective on what expensive is. They went to the mom’s house to show how much they’ve spent on her, but as far as I could tell, they pointed out a few items that could range around the $1000 mark MAYBE, but not much else. Maybe they were Kelzagerating on that show too?
But I’m over all of this. Got shit to do. None of this matters to me. You know how it is.
Clearly, that is true, because, as has been noted, the family has appeared in at least 3 different reality shows, and the theme of ALL of those was money. Clearly, someone in that family makes some (possibly in the pole barn?) because it’s getting spent– if not on pageants, then on other travel, flying in certain photographers from out of state for shoots, a wardrobe that rivals the Macy’s children’s department for the twins…. I didn’t say they were sane, mind you, and we’re hardly best friends. I do know them, as I said, and I can vouch for the fact that there really isn’t a favored twin.

@Moli, I remember when you shared your story a while back and i will always admire you for your selflessness and courage in the face of tragedy. From your posts about parenting, I can tell you are a very dedicated mother and your kids are lucky to have you. And your daughter is beautiful even when she wakes up with pillow face.

Most designers will not even start the work until the dress has been paid for. I will say for all the dresses s&i’s mom claimed to own, the girls only ever seemed to wear the ones they were shown in. After their show aired, she did claim to be selling off everything, opting for equestrian lessons for the girls over pageants. Those twins do have a fb page, and it appears they are back into pageantry, which also seems to coincide with the filming of another episode.
Who goes on 3 different reality shows? I know about T & T and and someone mentioned something about the Mother In Law one but what is the other one? Hopefully one involving how to speak respectfully to your spouse.
PG….they were saying (wait, wasn’t her name Kelly too?) she would contact people with dresses & clothes for sale and get them to ship them off RIGHT AWAY for an emergency pageant, but she wouldn’t pay in full. They said she even listed her payments as services or something on PayPal so they couldn’t be refunded. IDK…the pageant world seems even crazier than freaking competitive cheerleading! Thank goodness we only wear one uniform the whole year!

Oddly enough, I wasn’t directing it @ Pageant Grandma either, because she’s clearly educated and articulate. I meant I should remember to ‘dumb myself down’ when talking about this show! I think I took the comment too literally when I should be smart enough to know NOT to take the comments on the GASM so personally. I definitely had a visceral reaction to PG’s comment because of the fact that I have a special needs child, but if I would’ve taken a step back and remembered where I was & what I was talking about, I would’ve seen the comment exactly how you saw it. Hence…the ‘dumbing myself down’ comment.

@sarcasatire yes I think what made me tell my story previously because someone was talking about adopted children not be YOUR children or something to that effect:). MY children are my children, the lost of my baby sis gave me the gift of motherhood. They know I’m not the mother hence my name being Nommy and when my little girl tells me I’m the best Nommy in the whole wide world I believe her with ever ounce of my heart. She remembers her parents while my little guy does not. 2009 was a hard year for me and these two helped me with the pain. I was so focused on the lost of HER, I didn’t know my left from my right…my head from my feet. She was the first baby ‘given’ to me, I was told that since I was her big sis I had to always look out for her and take care of her…I felt like I felt like I let everyone down.
Man I pored my little heart in the thread, last night had bawling over my dog and today bawling over my sis.

@sarcasatire, the reason I never wanted to have a baby was because of the pain and down right grossness of it all. We made our pact in the 9th grade after Health class showed us a video of the birth of a child. Seeing her lady bits stretched out and all the ‘fluids and matter’ involved…yea didn’t see the beauty of it all. The show Baby Story didn’t make it any better when the doctors would just plop the baby on the mothers chest with bits and pieces of ‘matter’(I’m being nice because these are not the words I use)still on the baby and she would be kissing her baby. Keep in mind I have never given birth and for all I know I would be kissing my(I’ll say it one time) slimy baby too;).
I would totally wear a snarkle baby t-shirt to a pageant.

Oh, I want to do the Susan G Komen walk, but I think I would die after the first 20 mile day….I did the MS walk in San Diego a few years ago…Got to Walk through Lego Land. Was proud of myself for doing it. I know 3 miles isn’t alot, but when you have mad bad anxiety, and I was in the process of shedding 100 pounds, yeah I am glad I did it!

Thanks for clarifying, Fancyface…it is so hard to interpret e-mails, especially after reading through so bloody many of them! =) And NO….we do NOT want to start thinking like pageant moms! From there it would be a slippery slope to talking like them, spelling like them, dressing like them, etc. Can you imagine? I cringe just thinking about it! =)

What you have done for your family is admirable. I am sure that your selflessnes will be rewarded when YOUR Children grow up with the same sense of responsability and commitment that you have taught them. I am sorry for the losses that you and your family have had to bear.
I know the person that had the adoption thread. She said her brother was never told that he was adopted because her Mother didn’t want her brother to know. Kinda different than an “adopted kid not be your children”. Different situation.
But,You were so informative and kind and understanding on that thread and I have remembered your situation since. I wish every kid had a family member like you.

@Robin you and sarcasatire have touched me more deeply than you will ever know:). You know it’s so funny, I was the fun and carefree Auntie and suddenly things changed. I can say that my babies have helped mature me and the love the provide my husband and myself…I just can’t describe(the heart just can’t be interpreted). Side note…Bear(hubby) never wanted children(which is why his was the man for me) and HE stepped up to the Daddy(Paw Paw) role faster than my Mommy(Nommy) role. I have to give credit where credit is due…he is awesome with the kids. When the formal adoption was formalized you should have seen how his chest puffed up. My heart goes aflutter when he is talking about his children’My son is…my daughter is…). Believe it or not he is the one who suggested my daughter start dance(I’ve said in the DM thread that she is a GREAT dancer..as long as there is no music).
What about “I’m gonna rock that stage”, and “I want the crowwwwwwn!” I can’t believe I forgot those 2 as well!

I have found a child with autism best advocate is their parents. And often times their siblings, especially if they are younger.
I work at a science museum. A loud science museum. Everytime TPTB add a new exhibit, it seems like the sound quadruples. I don’t think it really does but when you have to be there for 8 hours a day, it gets LOUD.
We have a playhouse, think a McDonland’s playland but on crack (as one parent put it). Its also way cleaner cause we hose it down once a week, clean up any ‘accidents’ ASAP, and also don’t allow food or barefeet inside. Kids of all ages and abilities love it. But it is LOUD. There is a ‘ball volcano’ that, when a button is pushed, will LAUNCH balls up into the air via compressed air. It is loud, especially when kids hit it every chance they get. There are ‘air canons’ that use the same air to fire balls at a target (or another child’s head lol). They are loud. Not to mention, every child who enters suddenly feels the need to scream as though they are being chased by goblins while on fire. We also have a rube goldberg type machine that is very loud as well. This can be overwhelming for kids with sensory problems, more so when we are busy. The biggest group of kids with sensory problems, according to a coworker, are autistic kids. They can’t process the sounds the same way. So we started doing ‘sensory nights’ were we turn off the noisy stuff and the flashing lights and basically make it heaven for the staff. We really wish it could be like that all time cause I’m shocked we don’t have hearing problems sometimes (the noises are all within OSHA regs but still, it is LOUD and headache inducing when you have to be there for hours).
Anyway, these kids that come, whether they are autistic or have downs or whatever, have the BEST TIME. I love seeing this kids come in. My favorite group is the summer camp for kids on the spectrum. They truly enjoy themselves and are great kids to talk to or at least listen to.
For someone to say “autistic kids should be aborted” is disturbing and scary, especially coming from a ‘mother’. I have had many positive experiences with kids on the spectrum. I have had a few negatives (a little girl who has parents/grandparents who seem to think because she is autistic they don’t have to discipline her or avoid exhibits they know she can be a bit destructive with). But this is no different then kids who aren’t on the spectrum. I think all kids are good just some can be a bit more trying and a lot of that comes from the parents. I see a lot at my work and my opinion has changed on many things since I started as a volunteer almost 13 years ago. It happens when you age from 17 to 30..

I would like to address this whole thing with Camari’s mom. I’ve been reading these threads for days and it has been appalling to say the least.
Camari’s mom – to me you appear to be like someone backed in a corner and fighting out. I can’t imagine what it must be like to come on a site that has trashed you and your daughter. I have to admit that TLC did not present your family very well at all. This site, however, is a snarky, sarcastic site. The recaps are meant to be witty and funny. I sometimes cringe at how mean they can be but most of the time they are very amusing. Some of the commenters take things too far in my opinion and I can only imagine how mean that must seem for a parent. However, they are commenting on a TV show that anyone with cable TV can watch. As this is the United States, we can all express our opinion about the people that chose to be on this show.
I do want to say that you made a choice to put your little girl and family on TV. Then you actively sought out reviews of the show. Your interest in fame for your little girl and perhaps yourself makes it seem like your priorities aren’t quite in order. At least to someone like me. I watch that show like it is a car wreck. It is a guilty pleasure and I cannot imagine the world of pageants. Please do not say I’m jealous – I have a little boy and absolutely no interest in fame.
I definitely think that any child can be shown to look like an awful child if shown on a bad day. What I do wonder about is why does TLC show some families in a better light than others. I get the feeling that the producers are put off by some families and their children and highlight the bad behavior. What I am trying to say is I don’t think the people at TLC liked your family. Obviously this is just my opinion without knowing the production process.
You definitely rubbed me wrong when I saw the show – you did not come across as a very nice person. Your comments on this site have proved you to not be. I understand you are lashing out because a gossip site didn’t like your little girl and thus you. However, you do yourself no favors by throwing out words such as “twat” and “cunt.” Those are truly horrible words and they seem to fall so easily from your fingertips. It is very hard to read through your posts when they are littered with trashy words. Suggesting people abort their autistic children is so horrifying and ignorant and might be a clue to what the real problem is–
You take so much stock in outer beauty that you cannot accept the bumps of humanity. We knew that my little boy was to be born with a serious heart defect when I was 20 weeks pregnant. The option to abort was given to us but it was not an option for me. I do not want to discuss women’s rights on here. I just want to say for me, I would not change a bit of my son. Yes, I wish he would not have had to have four heart surgeries and I wish he didn’t have to face a shorter lifespan but I am damn grateful for the wonderful, beautiful being he is. He is beautiful on the inside for sure and I think he is positively deliciously cute on the outside (being his mother and all).
The thing is that children born with autism, mental retardation, birth defects, etc. cannot help the burdens they were born with. However, you are taking a sweet little girl and potentially ruining her on the inside by the way you talk and behave. This can be helped!
In my mind, I have thought beauty pageants at the very least helped little girls and young ladies with their poise and manners. You seem to be derailing that potential for your little girl by saying such spiteful, nasty things. It doesn’t take a leap of intelligence to say that the language and thoughts you use on this board is the language and ideas you speak in front of your daughter.
While it is admirable in some odd way that you won’t walk away from a fight, I think you stand to gain nothing by coming to this message board and remark nastily on someone’s age (again – something that cannot be helped) who the twats, twits, and twihards are, jealousy, Trisha, or anything else. You have the wrong audience here. I imagine your feelings were hurt and the recap wasn’t what you were expecting but the people on here will never be your friends. Why waste your time on this board anymore? Just be with the little girl you love so much, your family and dogs and hopefully use this board as a learning experience. I suspect you wouldn’t take the advice of the well-meaning people here and much less the people you’ve been lashing out against but maybe it will make you rethink how important something like these people are to you.

@Beth – I was one of the people saying that your little girl looked like Michael Cera. After seeing you came on the board, I felt bad having said it. I am sorry for hurting your feelings. I have truly rethought the things I might say on a message board. I didn’t like some of the things you said on T&T but you have come across very nice through your messages on this board. Your little girls seem very sweet, smart and cute. Your beauty dresses are amazing!
@Ms Cool, I think when the nice well mannered Moms come on the site it humanizes. When watching T&T I don’t look at the parents OR the children as ‘real people’ I see the as characters no difference really from any scripted show I watch.

Several of these comments have hit home for me. I have a son with disability that involves autism and facial differences. I also have another son who is adopted. When they were little people used to ask me which one was my “real” son. It is nice to learn that there are other Gasmii’s with similar experiences.

@ClosetFan. I am appalled that people would ask you that! Wow. My children are natural born, so I don’t have experience with that. However my father was not my biological father. Despite that, he was my daddy through and through (He passed in “97). I believe so strongly that blood often has absolutely nothing to do with family. And certainly nothing to do with “real”.

@Closet both of your sons are yours…equally. What is awesome about my family(in my eyes of course) is we have many adopted members. There is no…oh that’s the adopted one or anything similar. Quote my mother “What’s genetics got to do with it?” and my father ‘if I’m feeding, clothing, and putting a roof over your head… your behind is mind”. Closet while neither of my little ones have any maladies(except they can’t poo unless I’m in the bathroom with them…both of them potty train at 16 and 21 months in birth order ), I work with Autistic children. As I said probably at comment(something below) 100something, I adore Autistic children and I love teaching and interacting with them…I their minds good gravy their minds. I swear the sensory problems are a result of their brains being so consumed with ‘real’ information they find they have no time for dealing with unnecessary lights and sounds. And who need to form social connections if you are sorting out of the ‘real/important equation or whatever in your mind.

I would never get on a facebook page of one of the families from T & T and snark their child or family. I would never go on a pageant site and snark. But I will, do and very much enjoy coming on a snark site and snarking on people who make the decision to show up on my TV when I am trying to relax.

You all (not just you MsCool) missed SO much that went on before filming and if Gabby doesn’t want to ever play with someone again, I will stand by her. I have never had my heart break before when she looked and me and said her heart was hurt. I think my episode is just a “slight” bit different because you are dealing with older girls, and not the 2-4 year olds running around and the moms are the ones who want to be filmed. Gabby asked for this and I hesitated but agreed.
I would be disappointed if you all became nice on here and had that “come to Gasmii talk” about the show, lol! This is my esacape (as well as other pageant moms) Trust me, if you don’t think that those pageant moms don’t say the exact same things as you are all saying you are mistaken
It is so funny, I mentioned earlier to ClosetFan that you all act like Pageant Moms with your bickering on the “voy boards” and I mean that in the most sincere and loving way! Trust me, at most crownings, moms, grandmas, dads, etc., we don’t sit there and golf clap and smile for everyone. Sometimes you just look at the person next to you and go “WTF?” and realize that it just wasn’t your day 
And pageant moms say that because they see and know everyone UNEDITED…and the same things are sometimes repeated, said, and gossiped about
My autistic son is one of the greatest gifts I have ever been given. He is 18 years old (19 this December), and by all accounts, he should not have been born alive. Should not have seen his first birthday (let alone 17 more) should not have ever learned to read, to speak, should not have been anything resembling academically normal. They were half- right. He isn’t normal. He is extraordinary, and I would not trade a minute of being his mom for all the “normal” in the world.
@PG, I wish I could have met your son during his Preschool years. I work in the top Franchised Preschool system in the country(11 years and runnning), I’m the one of the ones who has to travel cross country to visit schools with ‘issues’. Most of the time it’s a school that hasn’t experienced an Autistic child. Since I’ve dealt with them for so long I’m the last resort for the school. I’m ‘different’(borderline Asperger’s syndrome) but because of my mother I’ve not had any problems. Because of my ‘issues’ I can identify the correct way ‘get’ each child. My colleagues are baffled by my skills that help modify my teaching for each individual child. For some reason, people tend to think that everyone learn the same way…so not the truth.
@Beth oh you so nailed it. There are times when you sit there and wonder what it was the judges saw that you didn’t see. I’ve had more than WTF moment. I work hard to teach my child to win with grace and lose with dignity in all aspects of life but it’s not always easy.

@thisbuggsu 1. our t&t drinking game involves drinking every time someone describes a kid as a firecracker. 2. I checked the link about pageants in Washington. I had been looking for systems for a friend out there a few months back and I had found that the local pageant systems in the area are more natural. The issue is not that they can’t have glitz pageants in Wa, it’s more of an issue with what the community will support. I spoke to a Ca director at a pageant a few months back and she said the Ca directors will go up to Wa but the turnout usually isn’t that good.
I’ve given up on the dance moms recap. This is just too good.
Moli– you are awesome. My son has “beat” every prediction. He was supposed to die at or before birth. He was “supposed” to die at or soon after birth. Nope. He “coded” twice in his first 3 mo of life. Still made it. He was a very late talker, but when he started, it was like speakig to a 20 yr old. He could read before he was 3. I thank the gods for my fellow playgroup mom who first brought his differences to my attention– thanks to her, we were eventually able to get a correct diagnoses, and he is 400% better for it.

As other people have highlighted having a child with Autism or Asperges related conditions don’t make kids ‘retarded’, they are extremely intelligent and high-functioning individuals who need their condition recognized for them to thrive. It is a complete misconception (through a lack of education generally) that people relate such children as being in the same league as a child with down-syndrome or chromosome disabilities. They’re not. But the most important thing is for these kids to get the right kind of support and that only comes from parents recognizing that maybe they should get their child tested.
After watching this episode with the pets, it is crystal clear that Giovanna does not in any way have Autism, like fat Jennifer Lopez has been claiming in the last 500 comments. She is just a little girl that doesn’t want to be there. As a little side note on the twins, I didn’t really see much favouritism for Alycesaundra (catastrophic spelling), more so the mother was blind in her competitiveness and was upset that Giovanna didn’t “perform” so was laying all her hopes on the other one. Plus a little creative editing by T&T.
The thing that I have noticed is that a lot of the kids on this show have very poor vocabulary and clarity of voice for their ages. Usually you would be able to understand a four year old yet most of the younger kids need subtitles when they are talking to the camera. I am not sure what this is in relation to but generally (and my only association with pageants is through toddlers and tiaras), the kids on this show come from lower class families, that are from the back country of Arkansas/Louisiana/Oklahoma where they may not have the emphasis on education or facilities etc. Of course these competitions also attract people that will generally place being popular in high school above getting a proper education…so those featured might just be a blanket minority. However, the big thing about Calamari, is that she didn’t say anything except “no”. For a three year old that is not normal in development. I have never met a three year old, that communicates by grunting…which is a telltale sign that something is off. It seems like something more that just having a unclear country vocabulary like the other kids featured.
Of course you do get a lot of typically normal kids, from backgrounds that you think the kids will achieve more in life past being a high school cheerleader – like Gabby, Isabelle Gielniak, Kinley Rice, Allyson etc. The parents of these kids seem to think further ahead than next weeks pageant and do it as a hobby. And the kids are smart too.
Just to clarify after reading my post above where I said ” these competitions also attract people that will generally place ebing popular in high school above getting a proper education” wasn’t a blanket statement meaning everyone that does pageants doesn’t believe in the value of education. But rather, people that believe that being popular and gorgeous in high school is the most important thing a girl can do in her life, are generally people who are attracted to doing pageants.
Oh and I wish I could edit my posts because that ‘don’t’ in the first sentence was used in the wrong context (should be doesn’t) – now I just sound about as educated as Camaries mom.
@Harriet it seems to me that the more memorable t&t families, the ones that are remembered, tend to be lower class and/or willing to be outrageous if it gets them tv time. Sweet well adjusted kids with sweet well adjusted parents don’t make good tv.
I checked Facebook and other twin mom Kelly just produced a new insurance policy to protect her lifestyle. I give her credit for having a baby at 50. Anything to keep her off the pole I guess. They are selling their beach home so they can buy a bigger tackier beach home and Facebook gets to know all the details because that’s how the nouveau riche do it. Their new episode is going to be interesting.

She was so sure that one would win and the other would simply show up. Babies that age are more interested in getting fed and changed…Ooooh shiny… to worry about stage presence.
Do you know how many shows are left this season? From some of the comments it sounded like some families are coming back for round 2. I have never seen them bring someone back unless there has been some type of controversary like Paisley after the pros-tot uproar or terrible behavior.
@Harriet – you will probably take some heat for your comments, but I agree. At least the families who get the air time have a skewed view of success compared to most people I know. Another dead giveaway as to someone’s socio-economic status is their name. The trendier, ridiculously “unique” spellings are overwhelmingly the providence of young, uneducated, low income parents. This isn’t my opinion. Read the book “Freakonomics” by the economist Steven D. Levitt. Great chapter of how names shape one’s life. For instance, if there are two females, one named Katherine Elizabeth and one named Serenity LaShelle, and you had to guess which was a judge and which a grocery store checker based only on their names, what would your guess be?
@Pageant Granny – maybe this has been addressed in one of the previous 3,289 posts, but what is your take on the relationship between autism and vaccinations, if any?
I know of three pageants off the top of my head that have been filmed but haven’t aired. I’m not sure what season they will be a part of, the T&T season seems to be 6 episodes long and then they have their “season finale” and then the next season starts up in 2 months.

If you saddle a kid with a name like that, then don’t expect anybody else to learn or even care how you choose to spell it. And, on a snark site, it is very likely to be spelled in the funniest way possible.

I watched a few of them again last night while typing case notes. I was more focused on Tricia first time around that I missed how much J Lo was seething during her interviews. And how jealous she truly is.
Disclaimer: I do not have any issues with Kelli the horseface twin mom. Her kids are beautiful. Her Facebook page indicates that when she is not taking her twins to pageants, she seems to be a very loving mom to all 8 of her kids. That being said, Facebook was treated to a week of build up with non stop pictures of the 10,000 sf house they rented in Vegas just so the girls could be filmed for this pageant and the pictures of the girls being filmed at various locations around town and posts about how much the filming crew loved her girls. Then after the pageant, nothing. Under normal circumstances I am not a stalker but after a week of teasers followed by nothing, it was almost like pageant blue balls. Finally, after several people asked how the kids did, she posted this.
“we were filmed this weekend girls did ok but were VERY SICK ..wanted to pull them but contract with toddlers and tires said NO…sooo we went on and it wasn’t great but just ok>>SCARLETT got back cover queen and face attire and BELLA got princess vegas wear and ooc..neither were pulled for grands which was a first since doing pageants ..but i understand the comp was fierce and amazing we wish to thank all our fans and friends for showing up..and tami for an fun pageant and being creative..i have heard a few comments by judges and others that were interviewed and they said the girls were not on there game..a bit off and were showing signs of not being happy…well being sick will do that..duh.. also that money doesn’t buy the X factor….well maybe not but it sure buys everything else!!…we had fun supposed to be aired in july i think we will keep posted but always remember it is TV and they want ratings,,,hugs to all”
Funny thing is during the week of build up there was no mention of the girls being sick. They don’t look sick in any of the pictures they posted before the pageant or the next day at Easter dinner. I wasn’t there, I don’t know if they were really that sick, but maybe Beth can tell us what the T&T contract does if you pull your kids out for being sick?
Again, no issue with this woman or her girls. I just have a thing for people who act like idiots to get on tv.
snowshoecat, since you gave a Squid Alert, that made me check the TLC schedule, and I’m gonna have to re-watch the only episode that I have seen this year, “Beautiful Me Disco Pageant.” Yes, J-Low, your fame, delightful personality, and willingness to interact with your fans on a message board do that to me — I’m hooked.
I would love to see the show “Toddlers and Tires.” Calls to mind a 3 year old in Daisy Dukes, plaid shirt tied mid-tummy and pig tails provocatively posed on top of a Firestone.

Ok– first of all, Kelly has to be lying about being “unable to pull the girls out due to contract”. Juana pulled MaKenzie out last minute because the younger sibling was sick.. and they replaced her last minute with Torrann and just filmed MaKenzie at a different pageant. In fact, Torrann’s “pre-pageant” time in filming was actually filmed AFTER the pageant, that is how last minute the switch was. So I don’t wanna hear that “contract” BS. You just didn’t want to have wasted that money renting that mansion for nothing. Had to put that screen time over your children (if they were, in fact, sick).

I figured she was lying about the contract and then was trying to save face because the kids bombed it. It should be interesting to see how it goes, I’ve heard idle pageant gossip that Kelli’s twins hate everything about pageants and scream non stop the whole time. Mom just loves to spend a ton of money and makes sure everyone knows how much she spends. The second I saw this episodes Kelly, I wanted to see a showdown of the twins and the moms.
And just like Manna from Heaven, Squidly and company are on the reruns right now.
The filming “before” part happens a lot, or so I hear. I was told Samara (chooky moves rule!) was filmed a full moth after the pageant because of a huge snowstorm. And natalie’s mom (who threw the fit about thinking her daughter got princess– wait, wasn’t her name Kelly, too?) — I know most of their “week before the pageant” was shot at the hotel.
Haha I just looked at Kelli’s Facebook as well. I think she is just a loving mother that perhaps never had money for her whole life and hit the jackpot at 45+ and wants the world to know about it. But she does seem good to her kids.
However the money gloating thing is so distasteful, I find it quite annoying. And also in one of her photos she has the address of her house posted on a certificate. That can’t be 100% safe when you have small children that are also on tv and people are getting to know who they are (see where I am going with this?) anyway being the house obsessed realtor that I am, and I’m not sure if this was a partial intention of Kelli letting everyone know how much her house is worth…but a quick google search shows that they bought the house that they are now selling for $3,060,000. Now that IS a lot of money no one can deny it. But I work in real estate so my opinion on house prices is a little skewed, however for a house, it isn’t really that much money. It’s like a dime a dozen – loads of people have houses worth 3 million (loads don’t but that is another story). It doesn’t reall compare with the private plane and maybach lifestyle she is alluding to. It seems to be the people in the $2-4 million category that go on about how expensive everything is they have and how glam their lives are, whereas people in the $5 million plus range are the ones that drive a Toyota and live a normal non showy existence.
I just have a very hard time respecting moms who will have their kids compete sick. Not only are the kids miserable, but they spread whatever they have to all the other kids at the pageant. Almost every National pageant has a flock of girls who end up sick after the pageant because some mom couldn’t keep their kids out. A couple years back, we went to Dixieland. Registered and paid for the pageant in full (Over 1K in fees, its one of the most expensive Nationals). She woke up the next morning not feeling well and with a fever.. so we sat the expensive pageant out. There is just no excuse to compete kids when they are sick.
Let’s not forget the ever popular “get it gurrrl” that is shouted. I always wonder, just what are the little girls supposed to be getting and from where??

@harriet You got me curious so I plugged the address into zillow and it shows the current estimate to be about 2.5 million. Still a lot, but it looks like they are going to be losing a lot when they sell. It also seems like the house is the most expensive on the street. Makes me wonder if it’s a big nasty Mc. Mansion tucked in between cute houses on the beach.
I always figured that doctors did well, but I didn’t realize they did that well. Horses and planes are not cheap. Neither are houses on the beach.
Some doctors do better than others… he is an Opthalmologist and they are one of the groups who makes a higher level of income, particularly if they offer laser eye correction. The med school name for it is the ROAD to riches (Radiology, Opthalmology, Anaesthesiology, and Dermatology)… low stress/high reward fields which are usually the hardest to get residencies in due to their high demand. Still.. I’m betting they have a heavy debt load as well.
SuperB and DearC, I think the amazing part is that, while DearC’s recaps are hilarious, it is the natue of the moms that spurs all the excitement. Toss a couple of experts who really want to ‘splain the inner workings of the pageant industry with one wacko who wants to fight– recapper platinum. Good grief, a couple of us even watched a rerun today to find out what the lunatic mom was talking about.
@stage mom, often Internet values are way off, I would say the house probably would be valued at more than the 2.5 mil and more around what they paid…..but I don’t really know the market in San Diego so who knows. On google maps, the house is surrounded by much smaller dated looking beach houses, so it is probably the first house in the street o be developed. Problem with that is that when all the other houses get developed in 10 years time, Kelly’s house is going to look cheap and dated in comparison. So it’s probably I their best interest to get out now…
Doctor richy rich seems like he probably makes a good deal of money, specialists can make a lot if they are aligned with a pharmaceutical company. However, they don’t seem like the type that aren’t interested in investing that money so every dollar is probably on show with the shoes and the bags etc. Rather than having a huge savings balance or a lot of assets (other than the house).
I have competition horses and I don’t know why pageant moms don’t take this up instead!! You still have the fake hair (horse tails….and I am being serious!), hairspray and ‘makeup’ (on the horses!) crystals and bling, and all the sparkle that you can handle but it is way more respectable and teaches the kids more important things than being beautiful!
But what does it teach the horse? Get it, guuurl!

Autism and vaccinations are completely unrelated. The theory, suggested by a physician in the UK, has been proven to be completely untrue. I’m a Pharmacist and have read many studies regarding this and there is absolutely no evidence favoring this hypothesis. At this time, the cause of autism is unknown, but genetics is thought to play some part.

I totally missed the question about vaccines and autism. My autistic son was vaccinated “on schedule”, and with my nerotypical kid, we put them off a bit. BUT son A had major reactions to his vaccines, including seizures and very high fevers, (which is why we put them off for son B) and my gut feeling is that if anything vaccine-related caused it, it was damage from those reactions, rather than the vaccines themselves. There are several “spectrum” people in my family, so I think genetics played a bigger part than anything else.

It blows my mind when I see the crazy rich people they feature on this show. We are lower middle class so that kind of money seems just insane to me. I would not even know what to do with it all. Not on pageants. Kinda makes me get mad at God for giving riches to weirdos like them and not decent people.
I thought they proved that the study linking autism to vaccines was shown to be a fraud. I lean towards it being more hereditary and the surge in diagnosis is linked to better detection. I’m not going to rule out environmental triggers, I just don’t think it’s related to vaccines.
My daughter had a sleepover with 14 girls last night so I’ve missed the last 100 comments to momming and Excedrine.
I just read that “Snarkle Baby” has become t-shirt fodder and thought about a fortune I had from a cookie that said Your Words Mean Business, Use Them Wisely.

Stage mom, I agree about vaccines. I’m a nurse and have done a bit of research. It seems there is not one large scale, placebo controlled, long term study linking vaccines to autism. I don’t understand why some people believe physicians would knowingly prescribe a drug they know could be harmful. What’s their motivation? It’s not like they are paid on commission!

The 5K race was so much fun!! I can’t wait to do another. I was at the back of the pack the entire time, but I didn’t care, I was just enjoying the experience. My time was 42:35.
Maude– physicians prescribe potentially harmful drugs all the time– when the benefits outweigh the risks. My son took a medication with the known, documented side effects of stunted growth, delayed puberty, appetite supression, and potential for cardiac problems. The benefits (a more normal “functioning” and better quality of life), far outweighed the risks until he was diagnosed with marfan syndrome (which can cause heart problems), at which point we stopped the med. The same is true for vaccines. Even if they do cause autism, or any other reaction, the benefits (individual and herd immunity to serious diseases) outweigh the potential risks.
Clair, congratulations! Ya done us proud! I really was thinking about you. I have a couple of runners and a competitive skier in the family, but I simply don’t understand it. I’m just not into self-inflicted pain.

To clarify my previous statement in reference to my pit bulls comment, my sister, older brother and I all lived on the same street(rest of our immediate is in a 3 block radius) . When my daughter was 2(’07-’08) she wasn’t living with me full time, but had her own room at my house. I didn’t become a full-time parent until ’09, I know how persnickety we can be.
@Moli, that sounds like my family! On the street I grew up on, my family owned 3 multi-family homes (2 brownstones and one detached.) Because each house had 3-4 units, I had grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins on the same street. Couldn’t get away with nothing, lol! Recently, my dad downsized, sold his house and moved (down the block) into an apt at my gramma’s. My brother moved up from Florida for work and into another unit, and my uncle’s house is two doors down. I love when families live so close together.

Stagemom- It is a HUGE misconception that docs get kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies. How would that work, anyway? Think it through. The doc prescribes a med, the company tracks it (drug stores at the national level sell prescribing information) and cuts a check to the doc. To TENS OF THOUSANDS of doctors for doing this. For the past 60-70 years. Kind of hard to hide it with dubious bookeeping, which they would have to do because it is illegal to give or receive a kickback of this nature. And what doc would risk losing their license over it?
Pageant Gran – of course docs do a risk-benefit analysis prior to prescribing a med. All drugs have adverse reactions that might be mild to non-existant in some, yet potentially fatal in others. Aspirin could be fatal to someone with a bleeding ulcer. My point was why would a doc prescribe a drug with well known and highly likely adverse outcomes? This is my way of trying to elicit some kind of rational explanation from the vaccines cause autism proponents. Where is the proof? Are the CDC, FDA, American College of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, etc. all colluding in a massive, centuries long conspiracy? Maybe Pfizer killed Kennedy and Johnson & Johnson faked the moon landing, too.

worked in a doc’s office in college..They get a lot of free lunches (and us too!) but no cash kickbacks, which are illegal. However, we had a doc who would give presentations regarding the use of a specific drug, and he was paid a speaking fee by the manufacturer. It was a decent amount, but nothing you would risk your license over…

1) Am I a loser that I spent part of last night and a much bigger part of tonight going through all these comments? I’ll be highly offended at whatever you say.
