Hey hey, ‘Gasmii!  I’m working on the full recap of Work of Art RIGHT NOW, but I know you’re probably itching to read about it, to talk about it, to debate it.  So, let’s get you warmed up here with a little minicap action!

This week was the “working with children” challenge. Last year, I think they just did “childlike art” and didn’t ACTUALLY work with kids.  This time, they had to create a work of art that worked in tandem with a piece of art done by a child in a school arts program.  Like, base their piece off the kid’s piece, make sure they go together.

It was all a crapshoot, kinda, because there were all different kinds of children and all different kinds of art.  Some artists got kids who painted still lifes of vegetables, and some got weird collages of flowers and things.  Some of the stuff was really cool, though. (I have a piece of child’s art that I paid $50 for at an art show, which now hangs framed in my living room. I’ll put up a photo in the full recap. It’s awesome.)

The kids weren’t around for much of the creation of the artwork by the contestants, but they were there for the gallery show. I really loved this challenge.  The kids had their day in the sun, and the artists were definitely challenged in a non-contrived way. It was all so genuine, and you know I love genuine!

So, some didn’t do such a great job (only one or two outright SUCKED), and the crits were pretty spot on. The one that won was pretty awesome, though it edged out an equally awesome one to get the win. It was all very deserved. I knew without a doubt who was going home, and I was right. I think we all can agree on that one.

I should have the full thing finished tonight or very early tomorrow, so stay tuned!  And check out my previous recap(s) of Work of Art (just click on “Sexypanda” or “Work of Art” in the tags at the top, or check one out here: http://www.tvgasm.com/recaps/work-of-art-recap-pop-go-the-artists/)

About

Time for an update! I used to be a tall, athletic editor who lived on the East coast. Oh, I still am, only now I've gained back all the weight I lost, which changes my life-tone quite a bit. Now that I'm married, I have a lot less time to watch Bravo and Food network. We usually end up watching Big Bang Theory reruns ("all of my friends, all of my friends, all of my friends") or Wipeout. Or WWE Raw. Wow. How life has changed!  Join me as we chat about my breast friend Patti Stanger and her love minions. Or maybe we'll talk about art during Work of Art. Whatever we're watching, don't be shy--tell me what you think!

I’m bummed WOA isn’t listed on the front page under hot shows. It’s a hot show, darnit! If I’m late to read the recap I have to search for it on the huge list of all the shows ever recapped and it looks so sad at the bottom of the page with the other W’s.

Haven’t watched the show yet. Can’t wait!

You read my mind! I just asked Flipit this morning to make sure it showed up under Hot Shows, because that’s where I look for it, too!

I really loved the show this week, thought it was an excellent challenge. Can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts.

I think the two best pieces were done by the children and that one of those children was so fantastically and hilariously insane that I didn’t care about the art. Sad that there has to be a non-profit that “brings art education” back to public school, though. How many of these kids actually get the training they need without an outside program?

I liked the winner’s piece, but I didn’t think any of the bottom three were the worst piece (I give that honor Miss Extremely Long and Pretentious Title). But seriously, was the losing piece worse than that flower monstrosity??? Really?????? Top two I agreed with though, so that’s definite progress. Is it weird to say I actually like Bayonet’s piece this week? I still think he’s a crap artist, but I liked what he did. My enjoyment of The Sucklord is slowly growing, and it grew even more than usual this week. He’s a totally decent guy.
