I don’t know about you guys, but I think this show is getting better. Here’s a quick rundown of what happened last night:
I have a wood chipper with your name on it, Katren.
Katren: Is treated like an outcast by the rest of the ensemble, the majority of whom know that she was Ivy’s competition for the role of Marilyn and are Team Ivy all the way. After being asked to sit out of several numbers in rehearsal because Ivy says she is too loud, Katren actually shows emotion. This leads to some of the other ensemble members joining forces to help teach her how to be a successful member of the ensemble rather than still trying to shine on her own.
Not-Grace: Still super awkward around Michael, and uses the word “great” way too much.
Not-Will: Goes on a blind date set up by his mom. It goes well.
Derek: Throws a birthday party for Lyle West (Nick Jonas) at his loft. Invites Ivy, but makes her jealous by chatting up another woman at the party. Tells Ivy that if she wants to feel safe she should go back to being in the chorus, but she got the role of Marilyn so she needs to start acting like a star.
Eileenica: Having a dreadful time trying to raise money for the show. Finally decides to sell an original Degas sketch, but the bill of sale is in Jerry’s name, so she can’t legally sell it. Tries to sell it to…
Lyle West: He was discovered by Tom and/or Derek (depending on who you ask) as a child, and now is an incredibly successful TV star. He’s also a fairly shrewd businessman, and makes a deal with Eileenica where he will give her $175K for the workshops with her Degas sketch as collateral, and she has to give him points in Marilyn.
Ivy: Is very insecure about the fact that Katren is in the ensemble and does everything she can to make the experience hell for Katren. She is also very insecure about her relationship with Derek. But she is a phenomenal Marilyn thus far.
Ellis: Doesn’t do a whole lot in this episode, although Not-Grace is annoyed and displeased to find him at the party for Lyle.
Sam: Is a pretty, pretty new member of the ensemble. He and Ivy are old friends, but it looks like maybe he is developing a little crush on Katren.
All in all, not a bad episode. The full recap for last week’s episode is here if you need to catch up.

I was confused with how the ensemble didn’t like Karen for being too loud and trying to take center stage. So they give her a make over and teach her some dance moves – then take her to a club so she can shine and be center stage. Mixed message much?
Actually, they were training her how to sing and dance properly in an ensemble. Her problem was that she tried too hard and overshadowed everyone else. Their goal was to teach her some humility.
