Andy Richter fails again

Miscellaneous TV

richter.jpgFile Andy Barker, PI under “cancelled,” along with Quintuplets, Andy Richter Controls The Universe and the next two sitcoms that are handed to former late night sidekick Andy Richter.

Not even the support and involvement of NBC bigshot Conan O’Brien could help the genial tubby man’s quirky comedy last six short weeks in NBC’s Thursday comedy line-up. Despite a big push and 30 Rock‘s prime 9:30 perch, the show’s been yanked off the schedule prematurely, with Scrubs getting the timeslot two weeks early.

The last two episodes of will be dumped onto Saturday night, where they’ll be ignominiously burned off– back-to-back– from 8 to 9.
Conan executive-produced the quirky and gentle single-camera series about an accountant who masquerades as a private eye. We almost feel bad for writing that the show “bound to fail” when we announced it in February– but figure it’s Richter’s karmic payback for playing a stereotypical “Chinaman” named Bennie Bang in The Olsen Twins’ movie, New York Minute.

The only bad thing about this show was having to catch part of Scrubs when I turned the tv on. Andy Barker P.I. was like the Rolaids to Scrubs’ indigestion.

I knew it wouldn’t last, alack alas.
I emailed my whole address book to get people to watch this because it was sweet, quirky, FUNNY (hellooo people – so funny!) gentle and quiet. That’s the whole hook: mild-mannered and naive suburbanite gets caught up in underhandedness. Reminded me very much of “Into the Night” with Jeff Goldblum.
I would really like to see this show come back, perhaps over the summer??
    If not, keep trying Andy.

Aw. I was giving it a chance. Too bad.

    And Scrubs is the best!
