eating.jpgSpike TV is about to give The Food Network a run for its money. The boy’s channel has made a deal with Major League Eating to run four competitive-eating events this year.

The first will be the “St. Patrick’s Day Chowdown” in Savannah, Georgia on March 17. The biggest stars of the competitive eating world will be there, including Takeru Kobayashi, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas, “Humble” Bob Shoudt and ChipBurger Simpson. The menu includes foods like corned beef and cabbage and beef tongue in the preliminary rounds and green donuts in the final round. Spike will tape the day’s event and air it at 7 pm. And it will be hosted by MLE bosses George and Richard Shea, the PR whizzes who started the International Federation of Competitive Eating after making Nathan’s Famous July 4th International Hot Dog Eating Championship in Coney Island an international event (ESPN has broadcast that gorgefest since 2004).

MLE produces events in the U.S., England, Japan, Germany, Thailand and Canada. They ran 100 events last year. It’s enough to make you puke.
