   I think Sondra meant that she has never done a wedding dress without the mother being there which I still find hard to believe. I don’t know how much trailers cost but the one they “bought” looked pretty big, I am wondering how Heath paid for that and the new (used) truck. I have a feeling it won’t be long before he finds himself back in jail. I with you on the reception, I don’t think there ever was one because why would it have to be canceled because of the fight. Heath was being filmed in front of Shooney’s that is probably where they went after the wedding. I can’t get enough of this show. The only thing that would be better is if Nettie enters one of her younger daughter in pageants and gets followed by T & T. Great recap, thank you!

   @Pollyanna Yikes! I’m sorry such a sad thing happened to all the victims. You just need to worry about getting your baby cheered back up.

   Romani or Romany doesn’t matter much that I know of. Maybe it’s got to do with not getting it confused with Romania? Even though the word might’ve started there, the people didn’t. And like we learned from this show or poking around the internet, a whole lot of Rom people pronounce and spell it “rumney”
   But you still don’t look confused enough.

   Romanichel or Romanichal is a kind of made up word. Come to think of it I guess they all are. Anyway it just means Gypsies from 1 place mixed with Gypsies that came from somewhere else. Sometimes Travelers, sometimes Rom that were living in Slovenia or Finland or somewhere.

   1st W VA gave us the Wonderful Whites. And now we get the Sorta Rom Nettie Nookies. So anybody that thinks it’s not an entertaining united state needs to improve their viewing habits.

   @snowshoecat got me to thinking again. (Anybody else notice she’s always doing that to people?) So I’d started to wonder if this group was even Sorta Rom. But after I looked at it again with captions on they know words like muskers so they must be. Since they don’t seem like people that keep a lot of extra vocabulary words around.

   Plus since the taxi wouldn’t go closer to the house than the corner. Although that might’ve been the cameras.

   The thing about the doctor’s office and social security number didn’t make a lick of sense. For all the reasons you said. The only thing I could think of is if it had to do with getting an HIV test to get their license? And maybe they only doctor’s office or blood lab they’ve got is in the emergency room?

   @Closet Fan I bet that’s what the angels watch in trashy reality show heaven!

   Boring Fact Alert A long time ago somebody actually wanted to standardize all the 9000 million Gypsy languages and dialects. And make everybody speak what they called Kalderashi and some people from there said not really. Whatever. It worked about as good as if they’d tried to make all the non Gypsies in the world wake up tomorrow and start speaking Icelandic.

   Got you to thinking Kthxy??? Oh nooooooooo. Well, anyway, that’s what I hear from the kittens when I try.

   I love your fun fact. In fact (there’s that word again) it is through linguistic markers that linguists can follow a given tribe through its travels. That is how the origin of a certain tribe is found. When we pass through an area we tend not to pick up any of the little verbal oddities of any location. But if we settle in an area we tend to pick up words and phrases common to that area. You can tell a Californian, for instance, by the habit of saying “the” before the highway number. “I always liked to take the 15 up to Vegas.”

   Oh dear, there I go again. Oh there was so much in this epi. Sooooo wrong. Nobody even bothered to say what trash talk got Alyssa kicked out (heard on the net that she said that Nettie was being unfaithful). Also, why didn’t she have the baby in her custody? Somebody said in last week’s comments that we sorta kinda took over that Alyssa just might be on drugs.

   And the kids were a tad disingenuous when they just couldn’t understand why nobody likes them and why they had been evicted. Awww gee wiz. Everything was glossed over so we could get to the door pounding, hair pulling, cat fighting drama. So contrived.

   Did like Pookie and Nookie, however. Although it seems that Alyssa is having a Facebook fight with one of them.

   Pollyanna I am sorry to hear about the passing of the pets.

   So we know the authorities took a look at RHONJ when Teresa and Joe were filing for bankruptcy. Does anyone think this show has caught the eye of the IRS?

   How in the hell does Nettie afford a $2,300 vacuum cleaner?

   Did I read on here or else where they are going to do a reunion show? Hope that is not a rumor.

   Between this season and last – the American version really does look like white trash attempting to cash in. The Europeans seemed more real if that is possible. Maybe because Thelma actually attended most of the weddings and really seems to care about these folks where Sondra does not seem to be included past the making of the clothes and the dress making for the gypsies is just another thing she does.

   First, it looked to me like Heath’s tattoo said “Rumney Royalty” so I’m glad to have it cleared up that Romany do spell it that way sometimes.
   Second, what Nettie said Alyssa said was that Nettie had been with a lot of men. Then Nettie said “I can count the number of men I’ve been with on ONE HAND.” And this confused me to death because if Nettie is a Good Gypsy why would she have been with more than one man, her husband? And then I suddenly wondered where the hell her husband is? Have we seen him? Is she divorced? Has this been in any way explained?

   I have another question (sorry): It seemed like the narrator was vaguely saying that Alyssa had run off and got herself impregnated, had a disabled child, handed said disabled child over to her mother, and then reappeared with Heath. I do not understand how Nettie could have been ok with that if it’s true that Romany men aren’t supposed to marry “damaged goods.” If Alyssa were divorced, maybe. But just…knocked up? With some other guy’s kid??? How could that be ok? And if Nettie were so amazingly tolerant why was she so quick to throw Alyssa out of the house? There has to be some backstory behind all this.

   Maryedith I wondered about her husband as well as I didn’t see him at the Thanksgiving dinner. If Romney women aren’t suppose to work, what is with them being on the show? Is that not considered work? I am sure they are not doing this for free.

    The word Rom allegedly means human or man in their language. I don’t think it has anything to do with Romania, it’s just a coincidence.

    @kindersg Thanks! I never could figure out where that word started up. I’d read about some of those theories but they didn’t sound right. And all this time if it’d been a snake I’d be typing dead right now! Because chavo’s a word for boy in Spanish too!

    But it’s kind of sad that we’re on here learning where the word came from. And then watching every person on TV use it to mean something different from each other. Not to mention from what it does mean.

    That’s a great blog BTW. As much of a hoot as MBFGW is I wish 1 of the networks would do a real show. I doubt they’d get many regular people to sign up to get followed around. Specially after this 1. But I bet bloggers etc would Skype and stuff. It’s not like there’s a shortage of material.

    @maryedithThe editing on this 1 was so crazy you should get a prize for piecing all that together.

    I admit not even trying. Because I was still assuming my 1st theory was right about them being a break away group. And that Alyssa might be from the group they broke away from. Or maybe another break away group. They all seem like they’ve left Gypsy ways by the wayside a while ago. It’s like those people on Shahs of Sunset walking around the house with their nasty shoes on.

    @labowner She probably saves a lot buying plain clothes and bedazzling them at home. I didn’t even know they made $2300 vacuum cleaners, though. There must be more OCD going around than we think.

    @labowner I don’t know what happened to Pat Baby’s sister. Her husband called 911 saying she shot herself. But then later he said he did it. And got arrested for murder.

    But in this day and age we’re bound to find out at least 1 or 2 people’s versions sooner or later.

    Good morning all! Wow what great detection. I need to watch a show a few times before I can sort it all out, and TLC used to oblige with many reruns. Now I really have to pay attention to find one. Grrrrrr.

    MaryE, thanks for your analysis. I still think they could have spent a bit more time on the backstory, but the drama pays the bills. Everything seemed to be going along just fine and BOOM, Nettie was packing their stuff.

    If that had been me, and I had been that angry, I would have stuffed all their stuff into a box and tossed it onto the yard. I thought she was nice to pack it neatly.

    Kthxy, how did you find the article on PB’s sister? Thanks! And I agree with Tinky that he should get his own show. We could drink every time something would ” go down in Gypsy history” ( but who would teach that is everybody quits school at 14?) and all that drinking would leave us a mess.

    Snowshoe I would watch a Pat Baby show. I do think his daughter is a little scary looking. I am going to assume they have issues having children because they don’t have a ton.

    And some of them are still on the dowry system? Goodness.

    Then counter all of this with the hour show I saw on BBC about the Travelers where the women were attending school to learn to read and write, attending employment training classes, there is a Traveller’s magazine published every other month, kids getting educations etc.

    my thing is this: if Alyssa didn’t shit talk her MIL, why didn’t she defend herself? why didn’t she try to explain that it wasn’t her? Next time don’t be stupid and shit talk to the wrong person, you git.

    Also, her make up gave me the sads she looked like a melted raccoon in the face at the end of her “wedding”. And such a sad “wedding” it was. That dress totally didn’t fit her and I feel like it was probably made for someone else who didn’t want it, so she got it on discount. The chest part didn’t fit her and you could see the fake booby padding as she left the courthouse. so so sad.

    and Mellie’s a moron. you fighting some chick over what exactly? because she shit talked your sister? That induces a fight? besides she didn’t look so rough and tumble when she got thrown into the wall. And that was the worst fight ever, was it planned? it looked fake enough, until real cat scratches were made and hair pulling really hurt. sigh. I wonder why some of these people (and not entire Gypsy community, but these electing to participate on reality tv and look a fool) don’t realize that they themselves are making their culture look like charicatured stereotypes. Perhaps nobody wants to rent to their hall to your asses because you’re busy dropping your vagina in the parking lot before you come into the building to sign the contract.
    I really enjoyed last weeks episode with the traveler village. the poetry and the whole presentation had me laughing and impressed at the same time. i wish i could have had poetry playing at my wedding!

    @clouds — apparently the Murphy’s Village stuff was almost completely faked so it’s funny that you thought it was more real than the fight between Mellie and Diamond. I agree that the motivation for the fight seemed a little scripted (I’m afraid everything about Mellie seems scripted to me; I wish they’d stay away from her) but Diamond sure didn’t seem to be playing to the camera.

    It has just occurred to me that this show took a turn in the Thanksgiving Party episode. When Mellie said into the microphone “Let’s all have us a big, fat American Gypsy Thanksgiving!” it was so corny and scripted that I actually winced. From that point on we haven’t learned anything about Romany culture; we’ve just been watching one (possibly) Romany family play to cameras. Or maybe I’m being too jaded.

    @labowner He didn’t shoot anybody but her. So it looks like 911 was able to get there before he took another spell.

    That night the popo gave them to child services. Because it was close to midnight and I’m guessing they didn’t know what else to do with them. I’m not sure of the ages but I’m also guessing if they’d learned any phone numbers and stuff it was their parent’s.

    Their grandmama’s got all 3 of them with her now. (Rita and Pat Baby’s mama)

    I don’t think he’s a Gypsy. And like we saw on the show they’re a transitional group that’s already started settling and mixing. So even if he’s not it’s still different from the Murphy’s Village 1 where the boy’s daddy was a non Gypsy.

    The reason his name comes up on some of the child offender lists is because besides murder he got charged with cruelty to children. That’s the law it’s against to shoot guns off in the house when kids are there. Whether you kill anybody or not.

    And 2 of them were in their bedroom and the other 1 was in the living room on the sofa.

    He didn’t say he shot her till after the popo had got ahold of him. But it doesn’t sound like it would’ve been easy for her to do it herself. Since she was shot 1 time behind her ear.

    He got out on bail back in Feb.

    It was $150K. I don’t know who bailed him out.

    Scripted (most likely) or not, the epi was pretty funny. L loved the emphasis on padding the bras of the bridesmaids and wondered why on earth Diamond needed padding when she is so well endowed by nature.

    Then sure enough in the middle of the fight she walked toward the camera, pad flopping free out of the top of her dress. Poor hubbycat’s arm is quite bruised.

    On a serious note, the story about Pat Baby’s sister is tragic, and only serves to reinforce the need to bring our soldiers home from Afghanistan. I read the article, and appreciate your sending the link, Kthxy. It really did clear up the question and add to the poignancy of the moment at the gravesite. It also underscores the need for mandating education, encase the undereducated are more prone to violence than their counterparts.

    @snowshoecat Business is business. And just like in the sister wives thread a big part of selling anything is getting people to believe something.

    Specially when it’s got to do with ideas about companies doing business 1 place or another. That’s just massive amounts of $ for them. So they need for people to really take it to heart.

    After a while, there’s no way somebody can walk in and call it a bottle of water from the dollar store without making them wonder if anything they think or believe is really true.

    And by that time, it’s not like it’d change anything no matter what they believe or don’t. The only thing you’d be doing is taking their comfort away.

    Anyway I’m sure nobody in her family including her thought he was too dangerous to keep in the house.

    And neither 1 of us would be the 1st person to also say maybe if they didn’t keep such a dangerous amount of butt ignorance in the house they would’ve known different. And she’d be alive.

    But they’ve got a lot of company doing the same damn thing. Including people that finished high school and went on to college. And aren’t Gypsies.

    It did remind me of 1 of the things on the Murphy’s Village show though.

    The reasons behind people buying gold jewelry instead of putting $ in the bank though. There are lots of non Gypsies that have always done that too. Even back when it was kings instead of companies.

    That doesn’t matter. The important part is wherever you are, when they say the $’s no good any more, you’ve got a better chance of getting your family out of the way of the companies doing their business. Because your $ not in the bank. You’ve got your savings account on!

    Some of this stuff doesn’t add up. They’ve said on the show that a couple’s first kiss should be on their wedding day, and women who kiss/fool around with/have sex with men before marriage are damaged goods…they showed a couple of these girls (like that one girl who married the boy she’d seen only two or three times) but for the most part, the women they’re showing are not like this at all. Alyssa was a single mother when she married Heath and was (originally, anyway) accepted. When that one guy proposed to his girlfriend at the baby shower, they kissed. What the heck? At least in the British version, these things are more consistent. I’m not sure I’m buying this gypsy stuff on the American show. They seem more like trashy people just looking for 15 minutes of fame.

    I think they have been filled in on what the British Traveler traditions may be and are emulating that for the cameras. Everyone is divorced, shacking up, spitting out babies and apparently, Mellie is stripper and Pat Baby’s sister was a checker at Ingles according to the article posted above. There is a lot of marrying outside and pretty much everything they say they are not supposed to be doing, they do. I think TLC just found some trailer trash and gave them flashcards with phonetic spellings and pictures of “Gypsy” slang, etc.

    yeah, i pretty much agree with the group; this American version feels less authentic. The European version of MBFGW seems to be more culturally oriented than this nonsensesical show. On the British/Irish side of things we get to see more of the problems they’re enduring, while on the American side I feel as if I haven’t really gotten to this culture, nor have they shown any real instances of prejudice against the Rom group. If anything, that Thanksgiving party was a joke and ANY group of people would have been thrown out on their ass if a fight ensued in a rented space. That was prejudice, that was a case of idiots acting up. You can’t punch a staff member and expect the party to go on. Duh.
    Feels faker, and the girls are definitely sluttier than their Brit/Irish counterparts. You don’t see them grinding out in the parking lot. They only do their thing at parties amongst female friends and family (if that’s any better).

Sorry for jumping ahead to the ‘My 1st cousin I thee wed’ episode, but I just watched it & the new words I learn from watching reality TV are EPIC! Dude said he didn’t like the tux because it felt like he was going to mutherfucking SMOTHERFOCATE! Enough said!

    Ok done. Yeah I definitely agree with the group as well. This show is a bunch of bull & I’m kinda (not really) insulted they are trying to pass this off as authentic. We’re not stupid & we can tell the difference between the REAL culture in the original version & these Nimrods.

    It’s also a completely unnecessary! TLC should know by now that we will watch any trainwreck regardless of what it’s called. I think we would have been happy to watch even if it was appropriately named ‘My Big Fat White Trash Parties Thrown By People Who Heard Someone In Their Family Was A Gypsy A Long Time Ago’. Right? Who wouldn’t watch that shit?

    thisbuggs4u- One of the bridesmaids is Annie’s sister, she is the sister in law of Laura the teeth bleacher. I was thinking the same thing that she looked familiar and later on they showed her up close talking and I knew exactly who she was. I’m shocked we didn’t see Nettie and company in this episode. I can’t wait for the recap.

    Agree with the title change! And with the increased viewership.

    This show is simply cashing in on the runaway success of the British programme (see what I did here)

    If they showed trailer trash (what you said, FancyFeast) I’d watch it. It’s still an alien subculture. Home grown and real. Also, until recently, the language of the residents of the isolated mountains of Appalachia spoke a dialect so pure that it dates back to Elizabethan England. I’d watch that. Subtitled, of course.

    @thisbuggs…It was REALLY hard to get through that epi because it was boring as hell compared to this one. They kept teasing us as if it was about to get interesting & then…dud! I blame the editors because I REFUSE to believe that this was all they could get from the Incestingtins, especially after they revealed they were related to the chick from Mellie & Nettie’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ episode! (thanks for the remind carpedi7. I knew we’ve seen her before but couldn’t connect it until you pointed it out) I mean, at least show them grinding the truck door or something. Sheesh!

    And I’m sorry, but how does a courthouse wedding & weddings held in gosh awful meeting rooms qualify as a ‘big fat’ anything? A big ass dress does not a gypsy wedding make. I know the gay couple was a good thing to explore, but come on! One of the brides ordered a $19 dress from China & the other one wore jorts ffs.

    Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but besides the episode showing the 7 yr operating a fork lift, did the men on the original show ever really discuss what they did for a living? That’s another thing that doesn’t ring true.

    Anywho, there’s someone on the last recap claiming to be a real Murphy’s Village traveller & she sounds legit. Let’s see if we can get more insight from her!!

    Oh dear god the incest couple is crossing into West Virginia to get married. A couple episodes back on T&T someone mentioned how awesome it would be to have the wild wonderful whites show up at a pageant. I think I can beat that.

    I think what makes me laught the hardest every week is that the Rumney men are so full of themselves when all of them look like they might top out at about 120 pounds, they’re arrogant, they all smoke, are probably alcoholics, the hair is ridiculous, I suspect most are illiterate and they have mouths like sailors around women, children, old people, pets – completely disrespectful. Oh, and they can’t figure out how buttons work. Some can’t even get past undershirts; that whole sleeve thing, I guess. And this is the big prize that these mothers want for their barely pubescent, scantily clad daughters?

    As far as this episode, I think the funniest thing was Alyssa dog-cussing her own mother, breaking at least on commandment, but bemoaning the fact that she wasn’t getting married in a church. Pure gold. And they can tell me all day long that these women aren’t trash, but …..

    And with all due respect to the culture, I am horrified at the thought that these young girls so often marry men they barely know – and I mean BARELY know. Those poor kids.

    Hi ladies! Just want to clarify some things for you. I am a romanchel American gypsy. I grew up in the culture until I was 16 and my aunt tried to.marry.me.off.to a.family friend. My.father disowned.the.”family” and we went from a lifestyle of traveling in a camper to settling down in a small town and living a normal life. I wont go into my whole life story but I know everything there is to know about that life and its way worse than what you see on tv. The reason you don’t see Nellies husband is because he probably was forbidden to appear on the show. What there doing by broadcasting there lives is a absolutely disgraceful to other family members. When I was a kid I was not even allowed to associate with non gypsies. That’s just the way it is.

    One more thing….. not everyone in the culture is what you are all seeing. My.grandparents were wonderful giving loving people that followed what they were taught but with morals and dignity. When marriage was pushed on me my grandmother stood by our decision to not partake in that tradition. She was a Romanian gypsy and.had always followed the traditions by the book. Yes most of these women are so ugly in there ways. But please be careful with your judgments. Just like with any race, people are people and just because this particular family is making my culture look bad does not.mean we.are.all one.in the.same.

    Blanche, it is so cool of your dad and grandmother to stick up for you. That is quite a sacrifice to give up ones entire culture to protect one they loved— you.

    Some of us have argued that Nettie and her clan aren’t even Romanchel, or at least not fully. Could this be? I just think they are lowlifes who represent themselves as Rom to get on tv. As you said, they certainly do. Ot make for good representatives of a culture.

    Wish we had more of your insights as the show unfolded.

    Absolutely disgusting. These must be the lower life gypsies because I myself am married to a gypsy man and he would not tolerate such behavior, and this is not how women are to dress and act in that culture. So much for modesty and self respect.
