With series like Rescue Me and The Shield, FX has gained a rep as a network with, well, balls. Not for long. The network has just has greenlit a pilot for a new series from the creator of Nip/Tuck– about a man who realizes he’s a transsexual and goes for a sex change.
4 oz. is the first series under Ryan Murphy’s $15 million deal Fox. He’ll direct the pilot and executive produce along with Brad Pitt.
Now comes the fun part: casting the role of a married father of two sons who decides he’s a woman (suggetsion: Michael Chiklis will be free when The Shield wraps).
The series has undergone one big change of it s own since we told you about it last year…Originally, the main character was a sportsriter. But then in real life, LA Times sportswriter Mike Penner got a lot of publicity when he decided to become Christine (see his/her blog here). Now the protagonist will be a gynecologist who shares a practice with his dad.
FX also bought three episode scripts. Murphy has said he hopes for five seasons: “The first season deals with the revelation of his secret. In the second season, he begins dressing like a woman. The third covers the surgery, and his inherent doubts about going through with it, and by the fourth season, he’s living as a woman and attempting to find love.”
The title, by the way, refers to the average weight of a penis, which Murphy says is “remarkably light given the amount of havoc it creates for men.”
