Minicap: Project Runway Has Beens!

By MrsMiaWallace | | 9:56 pm | 42 Comments

Mila I kinda remember, and the one with purple hair looks familiar, but clearly she made no impression if a bad dye job has wiped her from my slate. Was she a blonde? Her sour face is a clue but it’s not coming to me… I don’t know Irina or Valerie at all.

I do know and love, love, LOVE the guest judge, if you haven’t seen her new show…

Treat yo self

This challenge wasn’t as dramatic as expected, but the fashion was horrendous across the board, so I don’t agree or disagree with who won or who lost. Everything was so bad you could make an argument for practically any combination, but I am disappointed with the person who left based on their talent compared to some of those who remained.

So please stay tuned for the full cap and feel free to educate me on just why I am justified in judging people I have never seen before in my life.

The dresses were for the Emmys.

    Irina makes Kenley seem pleasant.

What is with all the whining about the time this season? Have these people not seen the show?

You can tell that Irina really wanted to rip the dress apart in front of the judges.
    Ebil ass bitch.

And Christopher is definitely veering into insufferable territory for me.
Like that whole thing on the runway? I can’t.

Looking forward to the full recap!

@Gerrit – thanks for stopping by!

@chaosbutterfly – yes, I wrote that nickname before judging and almost had to reconsider, maybe I should put out a reader poll for a new nickname after that little display

This episode was awful as were the dresses. Ven won for that? Seriously? Kenley looked like she was going shopping. In 1950. NOT to the Emmys. And they praised him for making it short? I’m so confused.

And the insufferable Gunnar came in 2nd? Lord, what’s going on this season?

And from the previews, looks like Christophers passive-aggressiveness toward Andrea has her bolting in the night. So maybe he was right when her ‘outed’ her for wanting to leave (which she denied).

What was up with the butt seam/dart in Irena’s dress? Do none of these people know how to actually make clothing?

    Still, awful, awful clothing.

@gerrit, why the hate? she gave a synopsis of the challenge without spoiling it for those who haven’t seen it yet. relax.

i think i still like christopher. i think he handled this with andrea badly-he should have confronted her in the workroom instead of on the runway, but i can also see he was extremely frustrated not only with how she was working, but how she was treating the competition. it seemed like she was being facetious and treating the competition almost like it was a whim.

spoiler alert!: i didn’t get the judging here at all. loved the three dresses in the middle (especially april’s).

In what world is going to the Emmys with Kenley (aka Satan/Betty Boop spawn) ever a win? As Tamra (Flipit) would say on the OC redub – “Raelleey?”

Irina, Putin called – he would like you to lighten up, Cyka!! Seriously, can someone sprinkle some uppers on her nails? (she probably chews them like gum)

Mrs Mia – if you have haters, that means you are doing something right. As comedian Katt Williams says “Get yourself some more!!”

Why wouldn’t there be spoilers in the minicap comments? I assume anyone reading the minicap has seen the episode or reads it at their own risk. Am I missing something?

I think Buffi handled Elena very well and did understand Christopher’s frustration with Andrea. I don’t automatically go the ageist route and don’t with Andrea until she acts the way she was. I totally rooted for the older designers in other seasons even when they were kind of crazy or iffy but none of them was as old as Andrea is and I really wonder what in the hell she is doing on this show. She’s fifty eight and has had her career for good or bad and frankly I really don’t think this means the same to her as it does to the younger designers with their entire careers ahead of them and for which this competition is a huge break for them. She just seems to be doing it as a lark – not completely frivolously but not entirely seriously either – and for Christopher this is dead serious. And I think he went into working with her with the best intentions and expectations and was becoming more and more alarmed and despondent the longer he worked with her because he could see his dreams going down the toilet as she just dithered and laughed. I truly felt for him. I get why he had a meltdown on the runway. I felt bad for Andrea because no one wants to have that happen to them on the runway but really she was the architect of that whole meltdown. So I give him a pass. And I never do that when someone ‘throws someone under the bus’ but I think this particular situation and person brought it on themselves and Christopher just lost it when she started criticizing his part of the dress. Though it really was a horrid mess.

Andrea totally lied her ass off on that runway.

I watched this until halfway through the judging before realizing I didn’t really even care who went home. You know the flamingest gays and those with the kookiest hair will stay. And as always, the judging was inexplicable.

Andrea is too punk rock (read “old”) for this. I think she was being flip as a way to deal with Christopher, who, at 0 mph, is a petulant little child, and under stress, turns into a tall-haired maxi pad. You can either laugh, drive a leather punch through your design partners throat, or go crazy right along with him/her. I think Andrea, who is an adult, chose the graceful option.

And on this whole “you got your spoiler in my PR minicap/Olympics coverage/RHoNJ reunion” issue: Count how many streams of data you are voluntarily following a day: tv, Internet, Internet sites ABOUT tv, cell phone, Twitter, Facey Pages… you want to avoid spoilers? Take yourself off the grid. That’s the only way. Don’t want to do that? Then learn to deal. Really, that’s all I have for you.

I’m with Michkabibbles here – did not get the judging. The middle three dress were the best ones out there (though admittedly Laura’s dress was iffy in the fit/construction – did you see those shoulders?) The Kenley dress was well made, but 1950′s housewife for the Emmy’s? Really? Just don’t get it. The silver dress for April was well done, especially in that fabric. Much richer looking to me than the ugly white, ill-fitting one that Irena was wearing.

I despise when the contestants go at each other and/or get all whiny during judging. Makes me want Heidi to ‘auf’ them all, just on principle. If you have an issue with someone in the workroom and make no effort to correct it, don’t come to judging and whine about how terrible it all was. Boo hooo. You are an adult. Deal with it. Don’t get me wrong – I like the bitchiness of the contestants and watching them go after each other, just not on the runway.

I’ve been reading this site for a long time and I know that there wasn’t supposed to be spoilers in the minicaps (at least it was a big issue on the Top Chef threads). I don’t hate mrs. mia or her recaps, I just made a suggestion. Some people need to learn that people are entitled to their opinions, even if you don’t agree with!

meana-irina drove mr. japanime crazy. clearly he’s the one who was taken away in the straight jacket as described earlier in the NY Post. boo-hoo. he’s my favorite. it is funny that working with scary meana-irina sent someone to the booby hatch. I though skunk-head stood up to her nicely and actually behaved admirably this epi.

and good riddance to bad rubbish that insufferable mama-bustle pulls a houdini. has anyone checked out her twatter feed (https://twitter.com/artyst31)? she’s hating not only on the show and the judges but on the advertisers (l’oreal kills bunnies or some such nonsense). she sucked as a designer and her crazy laugh mad me stabby.

Yes, but if you are going to complain about spoilers in the COMMENTS then don’t read the comments. What on earth do you think we are going to be talking about down here? The weather? We are commenting about the episode.

Now if there are spoilers in the header for the minicap then I am livid because I don’t want to see a spoiler as I scroll down the face page to other recaps. But once I enter a recap, mini or otherwise, and especially if I choose to read the comments, then it’s on me what I read or see, not the recapper or commenter.

Which is why I didn’t understand your ire. We aren’t doing anything wrong down here.

@Detinha, I remember that too about the spoilers in Top Chef. I was one of the people who were borderline upset about them ahahaha.

My feelings about it is that the spoilers should not be in the first few sentences of the comments or in the title of the minicap/recap, because that is what shows up on the main page. And you can’t expect people to just not look at the comment bar or to not visit TVGasm just because they haven’t watched this that or the other.

But I think past the first couple of sentences, it’s fair game, because if you haven’t watched the show yet, you shouldn’t be reading the minicap or the comments for your own sake.

*By you, I meant general you not detinha you LOL.

for those interested, here’s a link to laura bennett’s lifetime PR blog (she’s one of my all time favorite contestants, and i’m still bitter she didn’t win her season), she completely rips kenley, which is lovely: http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/project-runway/blogs/laura-bennett-blog

also, i get why Christopher came off as a petulant child, but i think he just didn’t know how to deal with andrea. he went into the challenge really excited about working with her because of her experience, and he thought he could learn something from her. and then when things went wonky, he just didn’t know how to confront her. he seems a young guy without a lot of real world job experience-sometimes it’s hard to know how to critique someone older and more experienced than you are. then, it all kind of bubbled over in the runway, especially when she said she didn’t care. that, plus her laughing when she continually fucked up probably pissed him off. he didn’t handle it right, but i don’t think he was wrong.

Andrea has seemed to be one of those people who laugh when they are stressed or really nervous. Sometimes the laughter seems incredibly inappropriate. I think that’s why Christopher thought she wasn’t taking the challenge seriously when she was actually stressed out by it.

And Laura’s blog was SO revealing.

And I’m the one who had a spolier in my first post. But I’m also the one who thinks if you’re planning to watch an episode but haven’t, then don’t come here. But that’s just me.

Oh! The comments bar. I keep my browser magnfied on this tab for easier reading and the comments bar is never visible to me as it’s too far to the right of the page. I didn’t realize the first couple of lines of the comments were visible to anyone regardless of whether or not they enter the recap. Okay, that makes sense then, to not spoil in the first couple of lines. I shall try to remember that. I hate accidental spoilers so I get the frustration.

Laura’s blog was fascinating. I hate Kenley and would find her obnoxious to be around but I am surprised that she was whiny and rude per Laura.

I know that sometimes people laugh when nervous but when you combine that with Andrea’s dithering and mistakes and stating that she didn’t really care all that much, that is what I think drove Christopher over the edge. I really don’t think that is his usual M.O. while working with people, I think this was very situation specific. I could be proven wrong but he is very young and Andrea was acting very careless, slow, and dithery and I think he just had no way to deal with it from his experience and fell apart. We’ll see how he does now. From the previews he seems really remorseful that he may have pushed her over some edge. I think he has a good heart and means well. Unlike Skunk.

Just to jump in a bit on the spoiler train -that I am aware of there is no actual “rule” about spoilers here; either in the mini caps or in the responses. The recappers try to avoid spoilers in their minicaps and as a courtesy the people who respond in the threads generally try to keep spoilers out of the first couple of sentences, but sometimes they slip in or someone is really excited or upset about an episode and just wants to dish or you have a newbie poster who doesn’t know how things have been done in the past.

The thing is – if you want to avoid spoilers for an episode you haven’t seen, then it is on you to avoid the sites where people are talking about the episode or run the risk of being spoiled. Calling people out or chastising them for discussing an episode on a discussion site or more specifically about what is said in the comment threads is IMO rather pointless.

One final comment about Christopher and his behavior – he’s young yes, but 24 is not that young. Between school and work if he hasn’t figured out how to deal with people of various ages and dispositions by now, he has much distress ahead of him. Heck, just talking to Andrea rather than griping to other contestants might have been a better option for him – and made for a better garment. BTW – what did he do on that garment other than the studded belt?

@detinha – They were mostly all horrible, weren’t they? Seems like all the designers will be having a ‘what was I thinking’ moment when they look back on this. I actually felt sorry for the models/designers having to wear them. I did like the dress for Valerie and the one for April – great fabric choices but the construction looked a bit wonky on both.

I always thought April was such a beautiful woman and very well put together although she was very reserved. Seeing her last night was shocking, I found myself wondering what on earth she had been doing to herself to look that old and drawn at so young an age. And the dyed hair was hideous. She had such beautiful white blond hair and now…not so much.

Irina was Irina. She is nothing if not consistent in her perfectionistic bitchitude. However, she was correct. Irina in that poorly made dress must have been torture for her. I mean, truly unbearable.

I did actually like the dress they did for Kenley. I’m a sucker for 50s party dresses anyway, but I really thought that the two of them did a good job updating the look for the red carpet. The fabric was very lush and modern, the structural draping detail was pretty, looked well made and it was very Kenley (as much as I hate her). I think if they tried putting her in something long and modern she’d be insufferable. That said, Ven needs some damn negative feedback! He’s so insanely arrogant I can’t even believe it.

As much as I hate when team members throw each other under the bus, I really couldn’t stand the both of them taking the spotlight either. A little humility with your answer would be nice, guys. I also didn’t like how only one of the winning team’s members got to be on top and go to the Emmys. What a sick way to stir up drama! It makes sense to divide the losing team but not the winning team. Seriously wtf!

The only problem I have with these minicaps is that it splits the comments for an episode into two different places. It’d been nice if the full recaps could carry over the comment thread from the minicaps.

I see the minicaps as a gesture to those of us who watch these shows primarily to comment/discuss them, because having to wait for the full recaps isn’t always easy (although Sir Flipit used to be the master of the quick turnaround).

Why is it that every season of PR seems to features progressively less-talented/capable designers. Even that Mr. Clean Blowfish guy is quickly revealing himself as a one-trick pony.

@itchy I was kinda wondering about how underwhelming PR has become. I just looked up the past winners to see when I stopped watching…I thought it was after Leanne because I don’t recognize Irina *at all* but then I saw Seth Aaron and I remember him. I know I didn’t watch 8 or any but the very end of 9. So either I skipped a season completely or 6 was literally forgettable (and I don’t remember very much of 7)!
