Project Runway Minicap: Mother’s Little Helper

The winner totally deserved it. And the loser had the very worst design this episode. The elder and MrsMiaWallace are both in agreement on this, so it is so. I was sad to say goodbye to our little loser though. Sometimes you form a bond with the strangest things.

I have a funny feeling they’re going to bring skunk back for something, I don’t know why. he totally grew on me & him & skinny christopher were cute this episode.

I want a whole collection of clothes that are based on Dimitri’s jacket. and Dimitri. he can go in the back of the closet & I’ll take him out when I need cynical love & some styling.

I can say this with all honesty and from the bottom of my little cold heart: it is not possible for me to love Dmitri any more than I do right now. His wit and dead on assessments combined with what I think is a very good heart just makes me happy whenever he is on my screen. Win, Dmitri, Win! (I love you too, Sonija, but Dmitri’s my guy, sorry.)

The Christopher and Gunnar resolution was sweet. And I have always liked Christopher so I am glad to see him fleshing out more sympathetically than he may have earlier. And for the first time I actually felt bad for Ven. He looked really crushed and lost tonight. He has such strong skills, I hope he can take the notes and really change it around. I still hold a grudge from the real clients challenge but I can get over it.

Elena and her mom were like twins from different generations. She’s grown on me too. Frankly, I am relieved not to hate anyone this season. I hate hating designers on PR (Gretchen and Ivy, for an example). I like a more fun and genial group to root for.

I was really enjoying Mondo’s critiques until he said something negative about MY Dimitry. How dare he? Actually, I thought he did a good job clarifying his critique and was thinking maybe he’s what PR needs on the judging panel since he actually had something useful to say.

MrsMia, I think your mom has great taste. She can join Mondo on the panel and maybe give Heidi a few tips on how to dress tastefully.

I had the opposite feeling about Mondo on panel. I’ve always liked him but I think he may be getting delusions of Versace and Lauren bobbing around in his head. He seems to think winning PR All Stars and being included in some episodes makes him a big name now and that his opinion is hugely important. And I don’t like feeling that way about Mondo because deep down I still really like him as a person. I just think he’s kind of full of himself lately.

Now ANYA! Please. She can’t sew and has ONE design she does over and over. Yet there she is critiquing the contestants on their skills and designs. That was an insult to insults. She has no business judging anything or anyone. She is lucky she won her own season and although she did make beautiful dresses she was the quintessential one way monkey of all time. I hope they never bring her back again. Seriously. I kept looking at the contestants and wondering if they were internally seething at her critiques the way I would have been. She has no place to judge.

    andyourlittledogtoo,
I agree with you about Anya as a judge. I was especially peeved when she told Sober Tara Reid that she should have pushed herself just a little more. Really?? She made a dress with an actual zipper and that was fitted and chic. Sextape made all kinds of schmattas that would hide “all kinds of sin,” as my grandmother used to say about caftans. Hfmpf!!

I have two things to say that most of you already pointed out, but I’m going to be redundant because it’s important to all of us…

    1) Why the hell did they have to send home Gunnar after my feelings for him did a 180?! I couldn’t stand that little Skunk until a few episodes ago and now I love, love, love him. Ven/Ben should have gone home with that stupid fucking rose thingamagigger. He’s an asshole. If you’re going to be an asshole, learn to be witty about it, like Dmitri.

    2) How the fuck is Elena the fan favorite and not Dmitri? Who COULDN’T love Dmitri? And Elena hates him, which should make her the fan LEAST favorite. Dmitri is the love of my life and everything he creates is something I would love to wear. Out of all of the contestants ever on this show, I believe Dmitri is hands-down my most favorite. He’s so dry, smartassed, cute, and designs beautifully. He should win the entire series.

Maybe I should clarify – I liked Mondo because he gave positive feedback along with the negative and it was refreshing to have someone on the panel who wasn’t just going for a mindless soundbite (looking at you Kors). As for Anya, I forgot she was even there. The only thing I can see her giving advice about would be how to design togawear for a frat party. And I’m sure Melissa WAS seething. I wonder how jealous Anya was of Dmitry’s perfect tailoring.

Now that you mention it, I have to say I agree. Out of all ten seasons I have never loved a contestant more than I love Dmitri. Based on what he has done so far he should win the series. :)

Ven has been an ass mostly. But based on how devastated he was at critique this week I just can’t find it in my heart to wish him gone quite yet. I am hoping he can turn it around. Gunnar I liked better the last couple of episodes but they were right, that design was not good. He deserved to go home this week which was sad. You could tell he kept saying how it was all fine! fine! because if he didn’t he would completely break down and he didn’t want to go out that way. I’m gonna miss him.

Sonija looked pissed off that Dmitri won, though, didn’t she? I think she really thought hers was the better design and expected to win, which honestly she could have. But it was Dmitri’s turn and he deserved the win. But her face, that was sour. She did not expect that.

I guess my problem with Mondo (we won’t even address Anya in this because she was just ridiculous start to finish) is that he one a contest on TV and has barely started a career and there he is JUDGING other people as though he were some seasoned and well known expert. Now, granted, they have TV personalities judging too which is even stupider and less credible but still. Mondo can offer feedback on how it was to do a challenge and tips etc like he did in the beginning of the challenge and his own personal story etc but to judge the designs themselves as though he were some great designer? No. And that is what bugged me about him, because his manner of speech and attitude came off like he thought he was the next Versace or something and not Mondo who won a season on PR and was barely beyond the place the people he was judging were at. They may as well have the contestants just judge one another if they are going to bring back recent winners to make these calls.

Mondo is a total jerk and completely full of himself. I liked him on his original season and thought he should have won, but on the “All Stars” season and last night’s episode, he has shown himself to be a real prima donna.

I like Elena more and more, and I couldn’t believe I felt sorry for blorph too. Way harsh criticism, of an awful awful dress. The second one was still awful. I realize I was probably projecting someone I know on him, but I feel like he’s only happy sewing away at his flowers on the machine and whiling the time away . . . I don’t think he’s got any designer in him at all . . . even just a skirt was too much.

I want the judges to say to him, “can you imagine that flower after being dry cleaned”, or have you ever tried washing or ironing that?”

There is something very open wound about the look of those flowers too. And his fabric design reminded me of drink umbrellas.

Loved Dimitri’s coat!!! I still can’t tell how he did it!

Welcome back Mrs. Mia, and very nice to meet your mom!

I didn’t watch the season before all stars so I didn’t know who the lady judge past season winner was but my take on her was that she was going to echo whatever came out of Heidi’s mouth. And Mondo, really? You tell one of the designers that their design looked a little teenage girlish?? Well YOU would know, Mondo, since your whole collection looked teenage girlish on your season. I loved how Ven got put in his place! Tim Gunn for President! Now if he will just put Dimitry in his place! Christopher for the WIN!!

I agreed with Mondo about Dmitry’s design, the focus wasn’t on the print, but I did like the jacket. I thought Sonjia should have won, and Ven should have gone home. Going to miss Gunnar…

I don’t have a problem with former contestants coming back to judge. They are definitely more qualified than half the guest judges they have on that show.

Finally got to see last week’s episode and then this week’s and I have to wonder how it is that Ven is still here. He does one thing – bend the fabric into a very ugly foldy design that would be hell to iron and look horrible after wearing for a couple of hours. But his performance the past few weeks – honestly, the way he dressed his ‘real’ client, the frumpy skirt and ill-fitting pants from last week (did you see that crotch!) and then the dress this week. The judges just needs to send his one trick monkey ass home.

I didn’t think the designer that left this week had the worst design – to me that honor went to the one who covered up his hideous print (ladybugs and hearts? really?) and then blobbed it onto his model and stuck a crooked zipper down the back. I can’t believe he got a pass for that with barely a whimper from the judges.

Gunnar said Sonjia’s hair’s really blue! I want my highlights to be that shade. I wonder what’s a polite amount time to wait before I Facebook stalk her? And ask her what all she puts on it.

I don’t feel bad for Blorph. But I’m getting even curiouser thanI already was. I didn’t want to say anything. But I did think his acting ugly was over the top. To the point of 1st going hmmm. And now I’m starting to get a feeling.

Dimitry deserve the win over Sonji. If you were to see some lady wear Dimitry’s outfit on the street you would think to yourself doesn’t she look great what a cool jacket. If you were to see Sonji’s outfit though tailored well you would laugh at those clownish pants of hers.

I agree with everyone! I was obsessed with the moms, especially Gunnar’s mom and Elena’s mom. I think Gunnar’s mom looks A LOT like Jennifer Nettles, and Elena’s mom looks like a cross between Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett, and that tough tiny bitch you don’t want to meet in an alley in the dark. I thought it was pretty ballsy of Sonjia (sp?) to basically copy Mondo’s pants from his season, even though her entire outfit was impeccable. Dimitry (sp?) definitely deserved the win, in my opinion. I believe the design of his jacket simply emphasized the graphic linear nature of his print, while toning it down at the same time (I guess that’s what Mondo meant by “overdesigned”). I wish D had put his model’s hair into a bun, though, so we could have seen the impressive cut of the jacket in the back, too, when she walked the runway. The judges chastised him for his styling, saying “less is more”. I disagree; if he had put her hair up and focused on the eyes instead of the lips with makeup the outfit would have shone more. Am I starting to sound like someone who has no right to judge? Kind of like She-of-the-shaved-head-and-fugly-printed-pants (did you see her pants?)?

I didn’t see her pants. I’m impressed that you did. Her head completely overwhelms everything else about her so I never notice anything else when she walks into a room.

I thought Dmitri’s design used the print perfectly so I disagree with Mondo. I don’t think the challenge was ‘about the print’ it was about designing fabric and using it in a design of your choosing and Dmitri used it perfectly in the blouse and in the linear floating design of the jacket. Doing more with that particular print would have been too much, but it was just enough. Very clever and also NECESSARY since he HAD to do something other than a dress so that meant separates. He had to use the print in either top or bottom, not both, so he chose the blouse and then made the fascinating jacket using the print as well. Unless he used it to make a skirt or pants like Sonija did but why should he have? I really don’t think Mondo appreciated Dmitri’s position regarding the dress problem.

Sonija made Mondo’s pants. I didn’t even think of that but you’re right. Huh.

And on the pants front, Mondo seriously needs to move beyond the Pinnochio look, it’s really ridiculous. Short pants as someone noted above, does not do him any favors especially when he crosses his legs. I don’t know how to take the opinion of someone seriously about ANYTHING much less fashion when they dress themselves like that.

I love Dmitri!! I work with a Russian guy. He’s so funny, with the sly sense of humor and the malapropisms (sp?) just like Dmitri. He reminds me of a little kid learning a new language sometimes. He wants to learn the bad stuff. Like when I told him a patient was crazy as a bat’s ass, he just about fell off of his chair laughing and now he uses it as often as possible. Gunnar shouldn’t have gone home. I don’t think his outfit was nearly as bad as they were saying. There was tailoring in the jacket. Elena’s still looked like shapeless scrubs even after Tim told her to be careful. Loved Dimitri’s suit and thought Sonji was a beyotch if she thought she should’ve won. Her pants were good but his was better.
I didn’t watch the season with the shaved head chick but she didn’t know what she was talking about. Tara Reid was outside her comfort zone. I thought hers was great.
Tim, Tim, Tim. How I laughed at your comment. I didn’t feel one bit sorry for that fat ass Ven. Speaking of fat. I guess he wouldn’t design for his sister, huh? Dumb ass. I’m afraid they’re keeping him around for the end. :-(

Again Dmitri’s from Belarus, not Russia, much different. It’s one of those countries that have been conquered so many times they no longer know who they are, just that they’re not “them.”

Mondo cracks me up. What a tool. Those stupid shorts and the hairy legs… it’s like watching my favorite old-time Bugs Bunny cartoon, the one with the Babyface gangster. And I’ve always felt he’s a suck-ass designer and only won because of the HIV thing.

I still like that Melissa girl, she was pretty great sport about Dmitri’s win, if nothing else. But after seeing her mother… shocking to see what she’ll look like too in another 20 years…

Okay, I have to call out calling Christopher a ‘girlie-boy’. I find that offensive. Like him, don’t like him, like his designs, don’t like his designs, but there’s no reason to use gay slurs.

Dmitri is from Belarus and I know that’s not Russia but aren’t they culturally and linguistically pretty much the same? I guess I always think of them as being so close that they are practically the same. I guess people from there wouldn’t think so. Sorry Dmitri. :)

Mondo was only likeable in his first season. He showed his true diva bitch colors last season. As for Anya – I sew a little and I already have far more sewing skills than her. I just can’t wear wicked low-V tops (tits are too big and saggy) and shave half my head and still look cute. I’d be more like Dmitry (with much less talent), which apparently means only the Gasmii would like me.

Venn – wow, I am guessing he never designed for his sister. Not without reducing her to tears. That lesson that you keep saying you learned from the last challenge? It is not sticking…

I am gonna miss skunk – he grew on me and he showed a sweetness that even his bitchiness couldn’t overcome.
