The CW gets “Crowned”

When it comes to television, the comic horrors of Little Miss Sunshine and the sordid sex and drug scandals of Donald Trump’s Miss USA (right) and Miss Nevada are not cautionary tales– they’re downright inspirational!

The CW has announced its own, brand new beauty pageant– really a reality series– with a tasty, kinky twist. Though they call it a “family twist.”

Eight episodes of Crowned are coming our way, probably in the fall. The beauty contest–like Miss USA, it’s not talent or smarts but beauty they’re promoting– will feature challenges like swimsuit competitions and production numbers– and that “twist.”

This is one for the JonBenets and the Patsy Ramseys out there.Mothers and daughters will team up to compete together (and fight with each other, blame one another and hiss at the competition) in the stress-filled weeks leading up to the “ultimate beauty pageant” in the finale. The producers promise the series will “look at the most emotional and volatile of all relationships” as the mothers and daughters “work hard not to let the other down.” Considering the producers are the folks who brought us Last Comic Standing, we look forward to some real depth.

The surviving duo get tiaras, the title, $100,000 (hey, it’s the CW, not CBS) and prizes. Producers are looking for a celebrity mother-daughter pair to serve as judges. Ivana and Ivanka? Lindsay and Dina? Paris and Kathy? Those Gilmore girls? Lisa and Marge…?
