Tom Brokaw Remembers Gerald Ford…Sort Of

Saturday Night Live

gerald_ford_12-27.jpgI no longer watch Saturday Night Live, finding now that I am of legal age, there are much better ways to waste brain cells on the weekend (I am talking about the Ninendo Wii, of course). But there was a time when I did watch religiously. It was a simpler time then, when Horatio Sanz was nowhere to be found, and Will Ferrell was just in the infancy of his genius. And for some strange reason, the show featured some of the best comic minds as hosts, sometimes even two nights in a row! One of the most famous skits of this era was Dana Carvey playing Tom Brokaw pre-taping news announcements (read full transcript) before he went on vacation. The subject was Gerald Ford, who actually died yesterday at the senseless age of 93. Read the stirring tribute from Tabloid Baby here. We have the full video of this famous skit after the jump. PS, the over/under on Jimmy Carter is 4.5 years.

Ah, SNL’s time-honored tradition of taking a funny idea/character and running it into the ground through endless repetition.

    Gawd, I feel old now!

    Hopefully sooner rather than later.
