Sister Wives Minicap

You mean every plig family isn’t sunshine and lollypops and rainbows?

Howdy, Gasmii!

Hope you’re all enjoying your holiday season.  I spent part of yesterday decorating, but made sure to finish in time to watch this week’s Sister Wives ep.  And what a doozy it was, all earnest and heartwrenching and educational.  It was so ABC Afterschool Special, I expected to see Kristy McNichol make a special guest appearance.

This week we were treated to A Very Special Episode of Sister Wives, in which the Browns found out that there is – gasp! – a dark side to polygamy!  Because they apparently a) didn’t grow up in polygamy (hello Christine!), b) never read a newspaper, watch TV news or use the internet, and c) think that every polygamist family is exactly like their idyllic setup.  Riiiiight.

We also get a touching insight from Janelle and Kody; and Robyn is, as Joel McHale would say, The Unlikely Voice of Reason for this ep.  However, I really think that among some of the Brown adults, there’s still a real misunderstanding of the evils of cultish polygamy.  Much more on that in the full cap.

Despite the heavyhanded treatment, it was nice to have just one ep without the petty infighting.  From the looks of it, that’ll resume next week.  And guess who’s going to instigate that?  Yep, Mrs Wet Bar Diva makes more demands.

See you in a day or so!

What did she mean when she said that she never knew men could be such bastards? I couldn’t tell if she was talking about when she was younger or if she just had that revelation now.

@ sal — Christine and Robyn both looked very fake in that segment to me. Robyn with her crocodile tears and all

My distaste for Meri grows with every episode…and the previews for next week seem like they’ll continue that trend for me…

I missed the Darger episode…but saw a flashback of when Kody mentioned that two of his wives think sharing a “kitchen” is abuse…cut to Meri on the couch saying “when Kody says that it upsets me because I know Janelle feels like I abused her…”

Um Meri?? The way to say that sentence without making me hate you more would be “when Kody says that it upsets me because I was abusive towards Janelle back then…” like, at least OWN UP TO IT, MER!

One of my biggest pet peeves are those “apologies” that go “i’m sorry that YOU feel blah blah blah…” those aren’t apologies!! argh!

Question – what did Meri do that abused Jenelle in the kitchen?

    @Mimo:

During the confessional espisodes (last season?) we learned that Meri treated Janelle terribly their first few years together…and apparently was extrememly critical of Janelle’s parenting etc..causing Janelle some serious heartache…I can’t remember if this was the reason Janelle left the family, or if that came later on…(anyone?)

I’m hoping that at some point Meri and Janelle were able to talk about this with Meri apologizing…but they way Meri talks about it like nothing was her fault, I’m not so sure…

I can’t believe how we are really seeing the true side of Meri this season. How much more does this woman need and what does she contribute to this family aside from being their first. I agree totally with you sweetblondie…Meri can’t admit she has ever done anything wrong and her so called apologies are just not the real thing.

I think she truly resents all of these women who can have babies simply by Cody walking by their house….then young Robin comes along and boom..another one…

Maybe the wet bar is the most important need right now cuz she is a closet alcoholic??? LOL

yeah Sunshine…like when Meri says to Janelle “I’m sorry you feel I’m taking something you feel is yours” (when they were talking about houses/finances)…just. Ugh.

And I give mad props to Janelle…she’s a bigger person than I am…I long ago would’ve resorted to name-calling and throwing in Meri’s face that although I’m popping out kids every couple of years (take THAT, Meri!) I’m also the only woman working full-time to support this family so if I say you’re “taking too much” then you’re BLOODY TAKING TOO MUCH!

But you know…Keep Sweet or whatever…

I was so shocked (though I guess I shouldn’t be by this family), at how closed their views of polygamy are. PennyDreadful, you are totally right. Have they NEVER seen a tv show on the dark side of polygamy?! How can they combat public opinion of all polygamy being full of abuse/horrors without knowing what those opinions are based on?! I guess that’s why Christine’s twitter handle is \rosecolored.\ I think it’s about time to take those glasses off.

That being said, I think the kids handled the situation really well. Kollene was being very hard on then, but they did stand up with character. I kind of wish Mariah went on their trip too. She’s also kind of \it’s all rosy\ about polygamy. I think the experience would’ve given her some perspective and maybe even more conviction for her faith.

I’m really surprised they haven’t done an ep like this before. I think it was a really good idea.

I believe that the reason the Brown wives’ kitchens are so important to them is because they have no life outside of the home. Sad.
