Sister Wives Minicap

I’m warning you, “going home”never works.

Howdy, Gasmii!

Happy New Year to you!  How do you spend your New Year’s Eve?  I always get Chinese food delivered (it’s a tradition in my family – my brother does it too), then watch Twilight Zone episodes until about 11:45, then over to Ryan at Times Square.  Well, to a video of what happened in Times Square 3 hours before.  So the ball drop is a tad anticlimactic here on the West Coast.  You know, like the Mayan Apocalypse.

On to our show!  This week we ended the season with a double-header.  In the first ep, the wives made more choices on the homes (didn’t they do that twice already?) and predictably, Meri is a pain in the ass, as well as being massively over budget.

Meanwhile, as been mentioned in every freaking ep this season, Logan is going to college – across town.  The rest of the family acts like they’re never going to see him again, so they make a video and also a quilt with all their photos on it.  I’m sure Logan will be proudly displaying that quilt.  Cause what college-age guy doesn’t want to get beaten up on his first day in the dorm?

In other developments, Kody is made to face the imminent demise of his hair.  That calls for another quilt!  Surfer hair memorialized forever . . . maybe they could incorporate some of the precious strands in it!

Everyone goes to see the houses, which are finally under construction.  Then the adults (well, except Janelle, who’s conspicuously silent) decide to move forward with the mission statement.  We end with Meri (and Robyn) weeping when Meri realizes it’s going to be Mariah’s last Christmas at home.  Really, Meri?  That was a news flash?

The second ep is a sit-down entitled “Secrets Revealed”, which is a pretty blatant case of false advertising.  “Entire Season Rehashed” should have been the title.  The Browns discuss the Dargers, how the families differ, whether Janelle thinks about leaving, the FLDS, Wet Bar Gate, finances, Meri’s “decision”, and an upcoming “recommitment ceremony”, which is an as yet unspecified event to celebrate what they think will be getting back to the way things were, once they move into the new homes.  Never change, Browns.  Never change.

Much more in the full recap, up in a day or so.  See you then!

Happy New Year Penny D. I can’t wait for the full recap! I did crack up about the family acting like Logan was going to Iceland or something.. a half hour away, BFD. I’m sure it’ll be months before they see him again…. NOT.

I feel like the cracks in the family are really starting to show. Christine has found her voice, good for her. Janelle, I could totally have a drinking party with. I used to love Meri, but it’s almost like she’s determined to remind the others that she is Numero Uno and you better not fucking forget it!

Kody is just more and more King Douchebag, what these women see in him, I am so not seeing.

Perhaps he has, ummmmm, big feet??? Be back for the full recap, enjoy your chinese food- me and the Mister do the same but our marathon is the Three Stooges, yuk yuk

*gasp* did he actually get his head shaved? Awesome! That stringy surfer hair was just so sad. I was betting that the hair storyline was a ploy for him to grift hair plugs…

The quilt. My family lives in Texas. Both of my brothers received memory quilts when they graduated high school *but* the panels were made from some of their t-shirts. Both boys were very sporty and my stepmother saved the important t-shirts. The quilts are actually cool and I’m a little jelly. At the time I was wishing my favorite party t-shirts from college were quiltable. I don’t think a quilt of family pics would have gone over well though.

I’m very Team Janelle. I try so hard to feel for Christine but for the most part I want to knock those rose colored glasses right off her face. She might be plyg royalty but after reading books by her first cousin once removed, Kristyn Decker, her aunt, Dorothy Allred Solomon, and her first cousin once removed, Irene Spencer (who married into the Lebaron clan but obvs before the murder), it’s quite obvious that polygamy was just as dysfunctional in her own family. Dorothy relates how her father, Rulon, (Christine’s grandfather/Kristyn and Irene’s uncle) arrives in a brand new Ford Fairlane* to the home of one of his wives who has been living in poverty and the children are on the verge of starvation. Even more delightful? the oldest son in that house has been abusing his sister and quiute possibly is responsible for the drowning death of his brother. Yet Daddy only shows up every few months with 50 lb bags of dried milk and potatoes. One of his daughters was reduced to raiding the Safeway dumpster at night to feed her own children. It’s just sad. I feel for the children growing up in this environment because they can’t help it and they’re not encouraged to befriend the outside world.
