Ah, those halcyon days of yore, when they did a better job hiding their revulsion with each other. Although it does look like Janelle is holding a shiv to Christine’s back.
Howdy, Gasmii! I’m so glad to be back with you to recap one of my favorite shows ever! It’s like an early Christmas present for me courtesy of our beloved Flipit. Speaking of, you’ve been watching Flipit’s Project Runway VlogCaps, right? Pure. Comedy. Gold!
So here I am recapping a show with all the elements you’d want: depression, financial difficulties, fertility issues, empty-nest syndrome, no reliable source of income, and a douche of a husband that the wives “share”. (Some more than others . . . ) What’s not to love? Especially since TLC makes no attempt at all to put any of this into a faith perspective, so in 3 years we’ve learned next to nothing about what these folks believe and why it makes them do what they do.
Except for this. We ALL know why Kody did this. Clearly he listens just as much to Mr. Johnson as he does to Brigham Young.
In this week’s ep, we met the Dargers, who are also plygs. And that’s where the similarities to the Browns end. The Dargers are everything the Browns
can’t won’t ever be. And when some of the Browns think they could adopt some Darger-style ideas? The one you’d think would be most on board, isn’t. Meanwhile, Meri and Christine look like they would love to be Darger wives 4 and 5.
We also get to see Kody yet again try to get a reaction out of someone re: being polygamous. And again, no one cares. Cause Kody? They’ve all seen douches before, with or without 23 kids.
And then there’s the restaurant scene, when the differences between the Dargers and Browns are highlighted – and not in the Browns’ favor. The Browns are visibly shrinking in embarrassment and shame. And yet, their takeaway somehow is “we’re doing all right”. Amazing.
I’ll have a full cap up in a couple of days with a big discussion of the Dargers (role models or scarily overcontrolled? We’ll discuss!), and we’ll also talk about the premiere and last week’s ep. I can’t wait to hear what you have to say, too! Here’s to a great season!
