The Browns are trying to remain hopeful while managing their fear of being disappointed yet again. Kody is not worried about getting their hearts broken because it happened to them before (or all the time if you ask the wives, but whatev). Kody tears up and tries to convince the ladies (and himself) that they are resilient and that no matter what happens, they will get through it together. Robyn cries with – OF COURSE – him because that’s her deal.
Commercial break and I’m forced to sit through an ad for the Total Transformation program. What’s the Total Transformation program? It’s a program designed to turn your asshole kids into not-so-asshole kids! Why don’t they advertise something I can use?
Back to the show. Let’s go over to Janelle’s house, shall we! Janelle is writing a business plan for the gym that they’ve decided to open with Bill the Trainer. The investor they were going to work with backed out, so Janelle is taking charge. Dramatic music! So back in the day, Janelle used to duck out of activities with the kids because she was so out of shape. Thanks to her efforts at the gym, she has a new lease on life, and she wants to do the same for others! Today she’s going to present the business plan to the family and remember that it is not personal when they “stomp all over it.”
Time for the Brown Family business meeting! Is it just me, or are these meetings primarily a dialogue between Janelle and Kody while the other ladies sit and watch? If I were Christine, Meri or Robyn, I would totes let them handle it and go do something that interested me, which would amount to pretty much anything other than talking shop with Kody. Speaking of Meri, she looks exactly how I feel about planning a business with my family.
Janelle starts talking specs; they would need a thousand memberships to keep the business running. Kody points out that they would have to sign for the financing personally, which would mean bankruptcy if the gym fails. More dramatic music! Christine says she got frustrated during the discussion because it’s the Kody show. Whenver Kody doesn’t want to do something, they don’t get to do it, case closed. Kody insists that he’s trying to think it through and explore their options. He thinks that they could invest in other businesses that would be more profitable; he doesn’t want the gym to eat up the profits of their “marketing” venture, whatever that is.
I sense trouble brewing! Janelle is super passionate about the gym and Kody says she’s got to sell it to him or it won’t happen. Janelle is irritated and perhaps even offended that Kody wants her to “sell” it to him when it was his idea and they were all on board.
Kody says he has to sell shit to them all the time. That’s interesting, and by interesting I mean that makes him sound like a skeez. Janelle has moved from irritated to angry despite his insistence that he wants to open a gym too. He’s happy that Janelle is so excited about the gym, but he wants to be realistic. Okay, I get that, especially since they’re trying to finance four properties at the same time while they’re looking to open a business. Does anyone else think this is the worst idea ever? Despite Kody raining all over her parade, Janelle is not deterred! She is going to make it happen. Meanwhile, Kody defends himself to the only person who is interested in listening: the cameraman.
