A true Patriot
(For the sports illiterate, which I realize is probably a lot of you, some crappy small university down in Virginia just beat number 1 seed (that means they’re really good) UConn to reach the Final Four in the collegiate basketball championship playoffs – which is known as March Madness.)

The former CTU director who martyred himself for America is, I assure you, still quite dead.

But is he really still dead, sg-dub? Or does the fact that a small university in Viginia, with the same name, played so well mean he’s still alive. Follow me on this: George Mason U’s chances of a championship are still alive so George Mason, ctU director is still alive. It could all be some vast conspiracy of earth shattering importance! Or it could be a really slow day which is why you posted this in the first place. Oh well, I got a chuckle out of it. And isn’t that the reason we all come to tvgasm in the first place?

GMU is neither crappy nor small. I live near there and it’s a decent school with almost 30000 students.

I am from a rival CAA school so I agree with the crappy part!!!! Just kidding, it is amazing to see a CAA team in the final four. Did anyone else catch the pigs flying outside too?

HEY, stop bashing GMU! I’m a GMU Alum and this is the biggest thing to ever happen to us! Let us have our moment!
And GMU is actually a great big university, very diverse and deserving of their wins. Hopefully this will bring some much needed attention to our overlooked school. Go Patriots!!!!

I to am a Mason alum, so I will take my moment and run with it.

Although, as a season ticket holder; where the heck have all these fans been all season?

I could really give a crap about college basketball, but I had a date last night with a guy who is a GMU alum and he was excited by this. So- an excited man is something I DO give a crap about. Go George Mason!!!

Poor sg-dub…..I think you jinxed your team.

I actually feel a hell of a lot better about my team (Duke) having lost to LSU…..

Yeah, we underachieved, but we weren’t on the losing end of perhaps the greatest Cinderalla story in NCAA history.

    Go Patriots!

None of my final four picks remain….I’m guessing I’m not in the minority.

BTW, who thought Florida would be kicking butt and taking names? They tend to underachieve in the Big Dance…not this year.

I went to GMU as a theater major and have no real love for the athletic department (my earth science professor called our theater building the “arts and crafts building”…not a great deal of school support or spirit there in a commuter school) But I am just the sort of idiot who would have chosen my alma mater in one of those dumb office pools…Curses! I wish I worked with men!! I would have been rich!

I’m a current grad student at Mason. While I’m happy and excited for the team and coach, the student bandwagoning has gotten real old.

I have yet to meet one Patriot here who didn’t bandwagon this whole thing. Everything in our bookstore sold out early last week because most students here previously never bothered wearing Mason gear before or even knowing we had a basketball team.

I was on campus leaving a meeting yesterday when the game was won in overtime and it was crazy. Kids were driving around campus for hours after the game laying on their horns and driving around with 13 screaming people in the back of pickup trucks. Police tape was all around campus for some unknown reason.

Again, I am so happy for the team’s hard work paying off. But everything that’s happened here has made me forget about Duke bandwagoning which has been going on for years.

I miss my true alma mater, Virginia Tech!

Kperkin2 : Don’t be such a grouch! Sometimes it just takes something like this to create school spirit. Granted it’s been a while since I went to Mason but there were plenty of people back in the day who supported the teams, as well as the intramural sports. What’s wrong with students getting overly excited over a winning team?!? As I said earlier, this is the biggest thing to happen to Mason and brought with it huge national attention. Of course the students who used to dump on the school will be sporting more green and gold thru the Johnson Center. Where’s the harm in that?
I say, the more supporting the Patriots the better!!!

    Kperkin;
I’ve been a GMU basketball season ticket holder since 1997. When I went to Mason, there was a pretty sizeable group of on-campus students that were big into Mason sports, and now there’s something called the Patriot Platoon which we never had back in my day. The police tape was most likely around because they had a pep-rally and fireworks at the Patriot Center after the game.

Plus, don’t forget all those people in Blacksburg and the rest of Virginia that jumped on the Hokie football bandwagon after Michael Vick took them to the national championship. But at least you didn’t go to UVA (sorry to cool folks from there) so it’s all is good. :)

Laurie: I totally know what you mean about the Michael Vick/VT attention thing. I think that incident is what has made me wish students could always love their school teams. I always joke that our budget cuts a few years ago were secretly going towards the creation of a 20 foot bronze statue of Vick for campus.

Littledarling: I consider myself more of a bitter grad student just wanting to graduate than a grouch:) Hey by all means if having GMU on my resume helps me out now, I have no problem with all of Virginia converting to Patriotism!
