Congratulations to the University of Texas Longhorns on their national championship, beating the two-time defending champion USC Trojans 41-38 in what was one of the most exciting bowl games in recent memory. Having family in Texas and loathing the general attitude of most sports “fans” born and bred in Southern California, I was rooting for UT the whole way. Although the players from USC are surely disappointed at failing at a chance to three-peat, their group is still one of the most talented to ever see a football field, and we’ll be seeing people like Leinart, Bush, White, and Young playing on Sundays in the near future. In particular, Vince Young set himself apart even from the two Heisman Trophy winners playing on the same field. Some people are calling it the best clutch performance by and individual on the college football field…ever.

I have to admit, as screwed up as I may think the BCS is, it has been responsible for a lot of great games, including four more this year. If you’re looking to celebrate the win, there is a party in my pants, and you’re all invited. Can’t wait for the NFL playoffs!

I was at the Notre Dame/USC game in October. The Texas win was beautiful especially since that wuss Pete Carroll couldn’t opt out of instant replay this time like he did for the ND game. Reggie Bush was all class in the way he handled USC’s defeat. Leinhart, on the other hand, had a mouthful of sour grapes and couldn’t have coming off looking more like a big, fat whiney baby. Fantastic game all around! I had an ulcer going for the entire 4th quarter. Now THAT was some college football! Hook ‘em Horns!!! And even though they lost the Fiesta Bowl, I’m still a true fan….GOOOOO IRISH!

Awesome game, although Matt Leinart turned into Matt Whine-art after the game. Both teams played great but I think USC’s arrogance finally caught up with them.

Oh…wait…what was that? Oh, it’s just Ted Ginn and Troy Smith running all over the Irish. GO BUCKS!!! That goes out to you hazasaem. And even though they beat my Bucks earlier this year (and our fans acted like jerks!) I’m glad Texas won.

And one final thought…the Bengals WILL beat the Pittsburgh Stinkers.

    All my love!

Hook ‘em Horns! We bleed burnt orange around here and hubby and I are both Class of 87 alumni and season ticket holders. We couldn’t be prouder of our boys and their inVINCEable performance! SO TIRED of being #2 all season. We knew we could be #1 all along! Only bad thing is I would almost guarantee we lost Vince during the last 6 minutes of that ballgame. He’s going pro now, for sure. Podger is signing off to go relish in the glory of the national championship and buy t-shirts!

Hey RealityTV4Me! Although we’re horns, we like the buckeyes too (our best friends are buckeyes.) We bought tix and flew to Ohio for that game in the horseshoe and took our teenagers with us. We had some rude comments and finger gestures on the way back to the rental car after the game, but for the most part, the buckeye fans around us in the stadium were a total class act. Plus, what an awesome stadium! So glad you guys beat up on the Irish. Can’t wait to host you guys next September. Should be the first real game of the season!

You know, it’s interesting…I never made any reference to Ohio State in a negative manner. The Irish didn’t bring it, the officials were fair, and the Bucks won – end of story. I’m still an Irish fan because I believe true sports fans support their team during the best of seasons and the worst of seasons.
So, Reality, Podger and copy….your comments are really unnecessary. I’m an Irish fan and can still respect a college program like OSU. You can’t do the same even when you’re the winners??? Sad….

Ummmm haza??? I don’t think any disrespect to the Irish was intended. Not sure why you’ve got your panties in a wad. I think the only time I mentioned them was that I was glad that the bucks won the Fiesta bowl. Simply because I happen to like OSU and have connections there, nothing to do with NOT liking Notre Dame. Just rooting for one team and glad the buckeyes won. I got a lot of respect for them after going to Columbus. I think most of us here respect a good college football game and most of these schools mentioned are worthy…relax dude. Nobody’s ragging on ND. At least not me. :-)

I won’t rag on any college football team, except maybe Florida State. Nothing to do with the team or the players. I just hate hearing that damn karate chop chant on TV during the entire game when they are playing. I guess that’s the point, huh? Seriously, these are seriously talented KIDS out there playing their hearts out for the most part. Gotta love it for what it is.

Born and raised in the OC, met my husband while we were students at USC, plan to name our first born son Troy. I cheer for USC whether they win or lose (and they lost a lot when I was in school!) But I’m not afraid to say Vince Young – oops, I mean the Longhorns – did a better job last night and earned that championship. J-Unit, I hope it doesn’t shock you to know that there are some passionate yet rational sports fans in southern California. If you do have a heart attack you can always ask to be taken down to CTU and they’ll find a way to bring you back to life, cause God knows we need you as much as they need Jack!

Are there any rough statistics about how many times they play that horrible chant during Florida State games???? If I were captured and tortured, they could just play that over and over, like they do during the games, and I would sob like a baby.

tremendous game marred by inexplicable old-white-men malfunctions.
what the hell was with all the replays/reversals?!?!
big-time game with the best college players in the world deserve the very best in officiating.
and they STILL missed v.young’s knee-on-the-ground on the lateral td.

    things of note…

… you can’t blame carroll for the 4th quarter 4th down call.
usc won 2 nat’l championships with that kind of play calling.
    6 more inches & they’re 3-peaters.

… matt whine-art (nice #7) doesn’t know how to lose with class.
(though admittedly he didn’t get much practice in college)

… reggie bush had an “off” game & still looked like a man among boys.
he’s gonna be pretty good @ the next level.
    as will lendale white.

… v.young is mike vick only larger.
he’s as big as a linebacker, knows how to read a defense, knows when to tuck it & run and gives good interview.
only problem… “with the #2 pick in the 2006 draft the new orleans saints select…”
    ouch.
    stay in school vince!

    … tvgasm rules.
    … so do the g-men.
    GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!

Us Penn Staters got so lucky at that game, as Joe said during the award ceremony a couple of plays here and there and the game could have been theirs.

I was at the game (and have aged about 15 years from the overtime), and it was about 80% State fans which was suprising, but the FSU fans were so much louder than we were. Did it sounded better on tv? I didn’t program Tivo for overtime.

    Boomer Sooner Baby!

I was torn last night – didn’t know who I wanted to see lose more – and in the end I’m sad that the horns one. Sorry horns fans – can’t help it – I was born a Sooner and my first words were “Tuck Fexas”

    Lol – just teasin ya’ll.
