The Voice Recap: The Steal Gains Power

It’s battle time and the song is actually good. Dez is really good looking and I don’t think there is a chance in hell that Christina is going to get rid of him. The coaches weigh in: Cee-lo enjoys Paulina’s personality but Dez is the whole package. Adam and Blake also say that they would pick Dez. Christina can’t make a decision and Carson looks kind of pissed that he has to keep asking her. She finally goes with Dez because he is more consistent. Nobody steals Paulina, which was kind of foreshadowed by none of them saying they would pick her.

Our third battle is from Team Adam. He has picked screamer Benji and Sam James, the bartender looking for a career change. I know that I have mentioned this before, but why don’t these people use their last names? So irritating. They will be singing ‘You Gave Love a Bad Name’ so that they can be pushed ‘outside of their comfort zone’. Speaking of outside of comfort zones is Adam going for the nerd look? His shirt is buttoned all the way up and looks very straight laced. Very un-Adam. During the rehearsals, Sam is a powerhouse, but has a lot of work to do. Adam tells Benji that he doesn’t need to scream the whole song. That is something that should go without saying, but I’m betting that Benji wouldn’t get it. In an interview, Benji arrogantly tells us that he is not banking on being saved, he’s banking on winning. I’m sure that’s the editing kiss of death, but we’ll see!

We go to commercial with Adam telling us the battle will be epic. A lot of things can be epic, but unless they are going to joust to the death, I don’t see this battle being so. One thing is epic – Sam put on his good sock cap. He must think he’s Zac Brown. During the performance, Sam seems much better suited to the song. Seriously, Benji just rolled his r while singing. He does know that this song is rock, right? WTF.  Benji also manages to throw in a scream or four. Yeah – not seeing how that was epic. All three of the other coaches say they would pick Benji, but Adam thankfully sees that Sam is better. The other coaches seem surprised, but not enough to steal Benji.

By process of elimination, you have probably figured out that team Cee-lo is up next. He has chosen the battle of the facial hair! Nicholas David (Ex drinker, was 300 pounds) will go up against Todd Kessler (Has a baby on the way). With all the facial hair, they could honestly be the same person and I wouldn’t know. Actually, I take that back. Todd has really cute smile and Nicholas doesn’t seem as boyish. They are going to sing ‘She’s Gone’ By Hall & Oats. Does Cee-lo want us to take a nap during the performance? Todd thinks that Nicholas is good and doesn’t know what he is doing there. They have become really close friends and Nicholas doesn’t want to go up against Todd. Next they are going to hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

I really wish the judges would stress more to the contestants that they don’t need to do run after run or tons of vocal gymnastics, especially since so very few of them do them well. Nearly every battle round ends in a screeching match. I turn on the mute toward the end of most songs so I don’t have my ear drums shattered.

Loved the Hall & Oats performance…. Thought Nicholas was amazing and I was really sad to see Todd go. He’s really really good.
