We spoke to Surya Yalamanchili, the latest The Apprentice 6 firee, this afternoon, and he’s still stinging from backstabbing teammates who did him in last summer and the “brutal edit” that made him “look like a robot.” Surya was our pick early on to win the job as Donald Trump’s sidekick. So in Part I of our exclusive interview, we let him vent before we got to the important stuff.
“I treated it like a job interview when it’s a game show,” he admitted. “It’s really a contest to see who has the least ethics and who’s really willing to sell out their ethics for ten seconds in front of the camera.
“Watching the episodes, it’s really like watching people bash you in the stomach with a baseball bat. The editing violates your memory of the experience, and the fact that people are willing to trade their integrity, the third thing is you’re just ashamed. It was my mistake in treating it like a job interview. I should have treated it like a game show.”
Surya fingers James as the biggest rat of all, and says he was left out of the frat boy camaraderie led by Frankie and Tim… But let’s look at the bright side! Before he jumped to Team Arrow, Surya and the Kinetic team were rewarded with a trip to the Playboy Mansion. We just wanted to know if he scored with a Playmate like James Caan used to do.
“I was the only straight guy on the team, so they tried to lead me into that direction,” Surya said. “You saw Derek in the pool. But he’s gay. When they said, ‘Playboy Mansion,’ I knew it could only mean trouble. I’m thinking the whole time, ‘My mom’s going to see this!’ My coworkers are going to see this.’ I kept my hands in my pockets.”
But then he stepped outside to a party near the infamous grotto.
“Miss May just happened to be outside. And I wound up talking to her. She ended up being a grad student at San Diego State. She ended up getting her Ph.D. in something. We were talking and then she asked if I wanted to see the zoo. They have animals there. So we took a walk…“When I got back, (the producers) said, ‘Tell us about your date with the Playboy bunny.’ I’m like, ‘Whoa! I kept my hands in my pockets!’ I knew I’m going to have to face my mom. This was a job interview. I’m not going to say something happened if it didn’t.
“She was Miss May, Alison Waite. So I talked to the right one. One of my good friends here in Cincinatti sent me her MySpace page. But she has like 8,000 friends. She’s not going to remember me.”
Surya paused. Then he spoke again: “Alison, call me.”
(Alison, Surya’s MySpace page is here!)
