Guests on Late Show with David Letterman Thursday night include basketball star LeBron James and Bill Murray.

The show marks Dave‘s 25th anniversary in late-night television. Bill Murray was the first guest on Dave’s first late night show, Late Night with David Letterman, when it premiered on NBC on February 1st, 1982– two years and eleven months before LeBron was born.

Murray is one of the Letterman favorites who always arrives well-prepared with exclusive, pre-scripted material, so this reunion of the grizzled, six-foot-one comedy giants should be memorable.You can expect more surprises Thursday night, so it’s probably worth a TiVo.

Despite four-day workweeks,vacations and sick leaves, Dave Letterman’s shows have provided uninterrupted late-night comedy service since that first show on February 1, 1982. The final episode on NBC aired on June 25, 1993, and though Dave didn’t show up on CBS until August 30 of that year, NBC kept him front and center by airing repeats of Late Night til September 10th.

( Fun fact: Bill Murray’s appearance on David Letterman’s 25th anniversary show will probably not take place until after midnight, which is February 2nd– Groundhog Day! Groundhog Day is the name of Bill Murray’s movie from 1993–the year Letterman moved to CBS. Funny movie though it is, Groundhog Day did not make Tabloid Baby’s list of the Top 50 movies of all time.)
