I am going to commit a little bit of TVgasm sacrilege here, but I have to tell people that I really can’t stand Laguna Beach. I would explain myself, but let’s be honest, there is nothing you can do about it anyway. Besides, I’m a lover, not a fighter, so why not spread the love for a show that I actually watch? By now, you should have figured out that I am talking about The OC, which returns to FOX tonight at 8PM Eastern.
Last season The OC, to put it mildly, went through some ups and downs. After spinning its wheels for a long time, it ended up finishing pretty strong, culminating with the shot heard ’round Century City. Season three is promising us what looks like, at least on the surface, some pretty good story lines. Among them:
- Kirsten meets a mysterious woman in rehab (Jeri Ryan), but despite the hotness, does not decide to do a little Marissa Cooper experiment with her
- Marissa is thrown out of school and must fend for herself in *gasp* public school. Black and/or Asian character probability? Rising fast!
- At some point, we will finally figure out the paternity of what we have thought to be Ryan’s baby
- With Caleb dead and Kirsten drunk, Sandy starts running the Newport Group. I’m also betting that he buys some hybrid car. With the new Lexus models out, he won’t have to be embarrassed about driving a Prius
Now, this is still The OC, so there will be plenty of ridiculous things going on. Why do they bother trying to convince us of this “running away” twist during the promos? That will last like what, fifteen minutes? Still, the show remains a pretty good choice if you want a break from reality television and crime dramas. And we’ll be working on a DVD giveaway for TVgasm readers, so stay tuned for the recaps.
If you like it, spread it!:

Bill Simmons interviewed Schwartz about the upcoming season…fun stuff.

I am so with you about laguna beach. Everyone is going nuts about it for reasons I can’t comprehend – that show is BORING. The “real” OC is much better than the, uh, “real” Orange County. I think I just confused myself.
i’m so excited about the premier tonight. i have faith this season will be much better than the “sappho-more” season. that’s what tvguide called it. ha!
It’s amazing how little buzz this third season has, especially compared to last year. Still, I’m excited to watch. But more excited for Reunion.
I am extremely excited about tonight’s season three premiere of The O.C. I don’t love Laguna Beach, but it was something to watch during the summer while my favorite sitcoms(O.C. & Gilmore Girls) were on break.
*hanging head in shame* I look forward to Laguna each week, it is my guilty pleasure, I got sucked in 100%.
As to OC…I am counting down the hours until the gang is back on the screen, of course I will be majorly disappointed when it gets pulled for baseball after four episodes. SO CRUEL!
*Holding my head up high*
J-Unit, brotha, I too simply cannot watch this show and do not understand the allure. It makes me cringe for the future of America.
I believe Kristen was on Kimmel last night. AFter watching a few minutes of it once I thanked my lucky stars that I turned down the offer to recap it a couple months ago.
Godspeed, B-Side.
Eeeeee! I’m excited too! I was worried for a minute because I thought Big Brother 6 and The O.C. were on at the same time, but alas, they’re not! Yay! Tonight’s gonna be a late night with all the t.v. watching to be had.
I still listen to that Imogen Heap song from the finale and it makes me all misty eyed. Good shit. Who’s the lucky bastard that gets to choose the music for this show?
Todd, thanks for the heads up on the Bill Simmons Page 2 email interview with Schwartz. Great stuff. I think Season 3 will be the best season since Season 1. Possibly the best yet.
Now see I love LB, but I have never watched The OC. Weird, huh? It’s just The OC seemed like a bad 90201 rip-off to me. (Loved that show). Then when you guys were trashing it last season, I was like, well I don’t want to watch it now that it sucks. I’ll keep an eye on the recaps this season to see if it lives up to the hype of the first season.
