Details of the The Simpsons movie are still hard to come by, but series producers let slip some details about the series’ 400th episode that’s set to air in May.
And it’s shaping up into a fight between Jack Bauer and Kent Brockman.Talking about the movie that comes out July 27th (see a trailer here) at that TV critics summit in Pasadena, series creator Matt Groening promised that every Springfield resident ever introduced on The Simpsons will appear in it. The plot’s still a secret, but Groening said the animation and storylines will have “more depth. We’re trying to take advantage of the medium of animation on the big screen. Also, it gives us more time to explore the characters’ feelings in a way that is more difficult in a 22-minute weekly TV show.”
On the TV side, guest stars between now and May are set to include Natalie Portman, Eric Idle, Stephen Sondheim, James Patterson, Peter Bogdanovich, Andy Dick, and, in the same episode, Stephen Colbert and Meg Ryan.
Two first-run episodes of the TV will be shown one night in May. Depending on which one airs first, one of them will be episode #400. Executive producer James L. Brooks said it will either be a 24 spoof featuring the voices of stars Kiefer Sutherland and Mary Lynn Rajskub–or a show in which Springfield news anchor Kent Brockman gets fired because he says something that gets him fined by the FCC.
So. Jack or Kent? Cross-promotion or salute to a hometown fave?
